The Bakers’ Union (BCTGM) has 58 employees. 29 of them make more than $100,000 a year.

International Union has 8 Vice Presidents. (One is an Executive
Vice-President).
These 8 Vice Presidents make anywhere from $218,989.00 to $161,789.00
for a combined total of over 2 million dollars. Additionally there’s a

Yesterday, maintenance was performed on the bike: sprocket and chain replacement. I'd bought the set months ago when I found it for a good price, knowing I'd need it in the next few thousand miles; and last time I cleaned & lubed the chain I found several spots where kinks were developing. They weren't hard kinks, but definite indicators of wear, so it was time.
And in this case I was also replacing the drive and driven sprockets(or 'driven flange' as it says in the manual). Recommendation of many is to always replace sprockets and chain together(though you can get argument about that), but I was going from a 530-size chain to a 520 so the sprockets had to be changed to match.
One bolt holding the drive sprocket on, six nuts for the driven, and all damn tight, so used a trick son told me about: take a heavy cargo tie-down strap, loop it around a wheel spoke*, hook the hooks to somewhere on the frame and snug it down. When you put torque on to loosen or tighten the fasteners, it'll keep the wheel from turning. And you'd better do this before you remove the chain; be a serious PITA to try it after that.
This was the first time I'd replaced a riveted chain, so took my time. If you're not familiar with them, the new master link does not have a press-on sideplate secured by a clip; the sideplate presses onto the pins, and you use a tool to expand the heads of the pins to lock the plate on. Add in that there are o-rings involved(4), I wanted to make sure I got this right. Pick a link to remove, press out both pins, remove chain. Change sprockets, snug fasteners. Put on new chain. There's a little packet of grease for the master link: put a o-ring on each pin, grease the pins(I shot a little into the holes in the other links just to be sure), insert to link chain. Put o-rings over the pins, get the sideplate in place and then press it on. Then rivet the ends of the pins(yes, there are measurements for how much pin to have protruding, and how wide the heads should be after expanding).
And yes, there's a tool just for the job. Depending on which parts you use it can press out the pins from the link you decide to break, then press the sideplate onto the new pins(and you need a tool, it's a serious tight fit) and then rivet the heads.
After the chain is locked together, tighten and torque-down the fasteners, then adjust the chain, and clean up the mess.
Put about fifty miles on it today, and all's well. Always a very comforting thing after doing something new.
While I'm thinking of it I got the chain/sprocket set from Sprocket Center; they also have brake rotors, wheels and other stuff.
Here's the chain tool I used. Hey, it's on sale again! In any case, it did the job. Next time I do think I'd use a couple of wrenches instead of the handle and lever that comes with it; they'd be longer and give better leverage.
*These are aluminum wheels, cast as one piece, I don't think I'd do this with actual spokes. With the solid wheels, use a spoke on one side when loosening, move to the other side when tightening.

Why yes, this does piss me off. Year or so back I said the same thing, and someone I used to think a sensible sort sneered "Oh, so some poor little rich kids don't get so much money, and that's bad?" Which REALLY pissed me off. I asked
"Does that include kids who've had to sell the family business? Who've had to sell the farm or ranch to pay this damned extortion? Are THEY 'poor little rich kids'?" And then said "Besides which, IT'S NOT THE GOVERNMENT'S MONEY. OR yours. Someone worked for it, earned it, was taxed on it- often multiple times- and now you think it's 'FAIR' to steal a massive chunk of it just because they die?"
I never did get an actual answer to that.

Back when LED lights still sucked,
being dim and blue-tinted, when the kids went to college, I gave each of them a few high-intensity light sticks and a carrier; no batteries to worry about and in an emergency they could be safely used around a gas leak or other flammables, and would supply plenty of light for long enough to get the hell out of the dorm.
Now we have really good LED lights: flashlights and lanterns and weapon lights(I've seen mount to put one on a bow, even). I've still got a few of the light sticks around, and a carrier, but as the lights have improved the sticks have become harder to find. I still like the idea of having a few as a 'just-in-case extra' matter, but if I want more of the high-intensity I'll have to order them.
If the information in this story is true, then I hope he's awarded the legs, tails, balls and ovaries of everyone involved in it.
What? The TSA nekkid-body scanners may have had tests screwed with? Who could imagine such a thing...

Depends. Largely on whether he's more concerned with truth and honor, or covering his ass.
Considering the level of crap coming out of most of our media, he's got to know that the only way to get anything out is making enough noise here; our journalists will do anything they can to cover for Obama & Co., and unless something is loud enough that they can't keep ignoring it, it either won't get reported, or it'll be reported in the manner they decide is 'best'.

Former CIA Director David Petraeus testified in a closed-door hearing Friday morning that his agency determined immediately after the Sept. 11 Libya attack that "Al Qaeda involvement" was suspected -- but the line was taken out in the final version circulated to administration officials, according to a top lawmaker who was briefed.
And the National Socialist Democrats start the race-card crap again; it's just so much easier than actually dealing with facts, and lets you throw names at people.
Because things like privacy and law and ethics don't matter to these people:
“The National Labor Relations Board is expected to start work on a rule that would force businesses to turn over workers’ phone numbers, emails and shift times to union organizers,” the Associated Press reported this week.
It’s an effort to enhance the unions’ voter contact operations, in effect, as current law only requires companies to give union organizers the home addresses of the workers whom they hope will vote to unionize.
“What this is trying to do — arguably, it violates the workers’ privacy — but facilitate the union getting in touch,” The Heritage Foundation’s James Sherk told The Washington Examiner. “It is just going to be a headache for workers. You tell the union organizer ‘no’ once and they just keep coming back can come back and they keep harassing you and now they’ve got your phone number that they can be calling you on — now they can be spamming your email.”
Speaking of Obamacare, I'm seeing various "So all you have to do is raise your price a few percent and all those people will have health care? And you won't do it? You suck!" Yeah, ignore all that they're having to raise prices AND lay off/reduce hours on people to stay in business, "You're just greedy and hate those who work for you!" Etc.
Chicago politics/politicians. Wonderful, aren't they?
Anybody else out there still mail their payments in, because they just don't want to give all these companies/agencies direct access to their bank account?
And I found a dozen or so brass 7.62x54r cases, get a chance I'll deprime them and see if the berdan primers I got fit them.

About what we'd expect from Napolitano & Co.:
A review of press releases issued by the Department of Homeland Security, the latest being filed Sunday and dealing with DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano’s visit to Staten Island for a Hurricane Sandy follow-up, reveals the department is crediting itself with all kinds of activities and accomplishments except for its commitment to produce an Inspector General report on Fast and Furious gunwalking independent of the Department of Justice report released in September. A review of the DHS OIG press releases on its website, with the latest filing also being yesterday, also does not mention such a report.
Sanjay Sangohee has a real problem with us actually believing in the Constitution; my personal suggestion is that if it's so bad here, take the fortune he's made and take his ass back to India.

A low-level happy dance was done this morning
Needed to do some grocery shopping, and the range isn't too far out of the way, so...
Five rounds of the berdan-primed 7.5x55, standard practice load(155 grain gas-checked Lee bullet, 16.0 grains 2400), all fired successfully with zero sign of gas leakage around the primers(or anywhere else). In fact, the primers looked just like the factory ones did after firing.
So that means I've got a whole pile of first-class brass for this cartridge that I can use. Now I need to find some brass 7.62x54r cases and try a couple of them for fit.

It’s time to take the same tactic to the extent we can.

I've noticed, the times I've eaten out, that EVERY place is short on staff, has been for some time now. With Obamacare it'll probably get worse; for that matter, look for more restaurants and other small businesses to close because they can't handle the added costs(and that's before Obama & Co. try shoving Deity-knows-how-much tax increases on everyone.

Short time ago I took a leap: guy had some Tula Berdan primers, and while he didn't know if they'd fit the 7.5 cases, they did fit 7.62x54r. Called a friend who did some checking and thought they were the same size, so I grabbed the brick.
Last night I took five cases, deprimed and resized, and primed. These went through my Hornady hand priming tool with no problem, and felt just like boxer primers going into a case when seated. I've loaded those five with the cast-bullet load, and next time I hit the range I'll try them. Looks like this'll let me use that bag of brass I held onto.
Remember, if you want to use berdan cases you have to take the deprime/neck expander piece out of your resizing die, and use some kind of berdan depriming tool to get the old primers out(I've got one of these, and BLEEP! the price has gone up!)

Things should settle down a bit now. I did manage to hit the range today, which had a bad side; I got to shoot one of these:
a Chiappa Mini Sharps, in .357 Mag. Website says just shy of 40" long and 6lbs. Lovely thing. Double-set triggers and a basic tang sight(elevation adjustable, no windage.
And dammit, it was fun to shoot. Y'know, one of these in .30-30 would make a fine deer rifle.
One more reason I ought to buy a lottery ticket. Just in case.
And, found I can't remember where, what's going to happen, sooner or later, if you keep shooting dogs.

Will there be enough noise on the internet and enough actual reporting from a very few actual reporters out there to overcome the desire of most media to bury/hide/excuse it?
Will some Stupid Party members be stubborn enough and have the nerve to tell the Party upperclass to piss off and actually INVESTIGATE it(which includes putting out the reports)?
FEMA has screwed things up bigtime, local government doesn't seem to be doing such a wonderful job, and has anyone heard the major media say ANYTHING about Obama like they said about Bush?
Hell, no. Obama and Bloomberg are socialists, so they won't.

Thinking about refinancing the house
Yeah, it would lower the payment. It would also cost, everything added together, somewhere between $3-4k for closing costs and fees and such. That's a bite out of savings.

The city left more than a dozen generators desperately needed by cold and hungry New Yorkers who lost their homes to Hurricane Sandy still stranded in Central Park yesterday.
And that’s not all — stashed near the finish line of the canceled marathon were 20 heaters, tens of thousands of Mylar “space” blankets, jackets, 106 crates of apples and peanuts, at least 14 pallets of bottled water and 22 five-gallon jugs of water.

A marathon security worker still working yesterday from a generator-powered trailer in the park, said the power sources had not been moved to devastated areas of the city because of an impromptu race run by marathon holdovers in the park.
“Once we found out they’d still be running a marathon, we had to call all the towing vendors and tell them they couldn’t come,” he said.
I'm torn between "Those poor bastards in NYEffin'C", and "Well, you dumb bastards kept electing him."

My first thought, among others, is "So you plan on protecting everyone in the parking lot? Or are you going to post "If attacked or robbed in our parking lot, you're on your own" signs to make sure everyone understands you'd rather have them robbed/beaten/whatever than have them protect themselves?"
So I'm giving it some thought on how to reply. Suggestions?
A bit of .32acp testing
A while back James linked to this old article on the .32 as a defense round, with it being suggested that a semi-wadcutter bullet with a wide, flat nose might well be better than hollowpoints. Which(of course) led to finding some suitable bullets and trying them. The load suggested in the article was 1.8 grains of Bullseye behind a 95-98 grain bullet.
I tried that load: accuracy was good, but seemed a bit anemic; the action cycled but without real enthusiasm. So I did some digging around on Cast Boolits and found some information from people loading the 90-grain Hornady SWC for .32acp, and their loads with W231 powder.
DISCLAIMER:
What I tried had no mention in any load manual/site I could find. It worked for me, that doesn't mean it'll work in your gun, or be a good idea to try; if you give this load a try, any 'oopsies' are on you.

And…another “storm” brews. For many weeks now, there have been indications that the outcome of the Presidential election only days away may trigger significant civil upheaval. It ain’t just “Twitter talk,” which has definitely been there for some time, and can’t be ignored for reasons recently stated in this blog. Before Hurricane Sandy hit, law enforcement was already quietly planning for such a post-Election Day contingency. Law enforcement agencies don’t do that unless they have solid intelligence indicating a genuine risk.
When a 'former' Presidential advisor- Van Jones- talks about burning down what is left of cities if Obama loses, I'd say that yes, there is a genuine risk.
Updated: I could swear saw a note somewhere about Jones saying that, but can't find anything; I may have confused him with some of the other socialists and communists threatening to burn things down.
While searching ran across a thread at Fark about this, a couple of people agreeing that 'if democracy fails this way, I'll light a torch'; got that? If their guy loses the election it means 'democracy fails'... The mind reels at the level of stupid/ignorance/hatred involved.

In fact, the agency appears to have been completely unprepared to distribute bottled water to Hurricane Sandy victims when the storm hit this Monday. In contrast to its stated policy, FEMA failed to have any meaningful supplies of bottled water -- or any other supplies, for that matter -- stored in nearby facilities as it had proclaimed it would on its website. This was the case despite several days advance warning of the impending storm.
FEMA only began to solicit bids for vendors to provide bottled water for distribution to Hurricane Sandy victims on Friday, sending out a solicitation request for 2.3 million gallons of bottled water at the FedBizOpps.gov website. Bidding closed at 4:30 pm eastern.
Breitbart News spoke with contracting officer Annette Wright, who said that the winning vendor would be required to deliver the 2.3 million gallons of bottled water to an East Farmingdale, New York distribution center that was listed in the solicitation request by Monday, November 5th. Ms. Wright was unable to say when or how the water would be delivered from the distribution center to needy Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey, Staten Island, Long Island, and other boroughs of New York City. Vendors "are currently being evaluated," she said, and when the vendors are announced, they will provide information on how local distribution will occur.
Absolutely frikkin' amazing, isn't it?
The second, found this at the Irishman's place, supposedly said by the President's minder Valerie Jarrett:
After we win this election, it’s our turn. Payback time. Everyone not with us is against us and they better be ready because we don’t forget. The ones who helped us will be rewarded, the ones who opposed us will get what they deserve. There is going to be hell to pay. Congress won’t be a problem for us this time. No election to worry about after this is over and we have two judges ready to go.”
I doubt there's any way to confirm this; whoever leaked it is probably scared to death to be named, or give some way to confirm. Personally, I believe it; it fits past words and actions.

Think of the worst possible choices to investigate the 'failures' of Benghazi,

Y'know, one of the things that pisses me off the most in this kind of garbage is the simple fact that, if they'd leave us the hell alone, we wouldn't give a pig's ass about muslims(aside from neighbors, business and such); but that can't be, according to bigoted assholes like Pickering, it HAS to be that we hate muslims solely because 'we don't know them, or understand them'.
Pickering, we understand that a large part of the muslim world wants us converted dhimmi or dead, and an awful lot of those would prefer the latter; and that is the only reason we bother having an opinion of them. Either you know that and lie, or you're actually so stupid as to believe the tripe coming out of your mouth. In either case, I'm sick of being polite to bigots such as yourself: fuck you.
Oh, and while you're blaming us for everything, why don't you ask your little friends about this? I realize most of them will lie, or be afraid to voice an opinion, or- more likely- since they can't blame it on us or the Joooooos- won't know what to think about it.

For a lot of those people, how much less sucky would this be if they had a few days of drinking water? A few days of 'can eat it cold' food? Some lights not dependent on the grid? A bucket and some plastic bags for a toilet?
Nothing extravagant, or expensive, just a little bit of stuff.
Couple of years back, on a thread somewhere about disaster prep, a guy mentioned having lived in NYC, and that most apartment dwellers were screwed in the event of a real disaster: they're so used to eating out or stopping on the way home from work for groceries that they had maybe a couple of meals worth of groceries in the house that didn't require cooking; those who did, it tended to be pop-tarts or something(edible, but not exactly filling). Which meant that if they got warning, they'd be part of the mob trying to buy the last whatever on the shelves, or sitting back and figuring the .gov would take care of them.
That works out well, doesn't it?

stores that just opened in OKC. Today was the Grand Opening, and I just got a call from him during his 'choke down some food and water' break: "I have no idea how many guns and how much ammunition we've sold today."

Riding down the road with a pistol openly on the hip(well, as open as a IWB holster and dark pistol is against a black shirt was a definite new experience; after all these years making sure it stayed out of sight, it was a bit nervous-making.
Also very nice; no wearing a cover shirt, or a jacket just to conceal it.
I think I like it.

I WAS going to do some other stuff today,
but about 2pm my internet went down. So I called ATT, and spent a while with a woman who spoke english so-so, and had such an accent that what she did speak, well, I had to ask her to repeat a lot of things.
Anyway, my modem bit the big one. The original had crapped out back in March, so the replacement was still under warranty. Except she kept insisting "No, we have no record of you replacing the original, that is the one you are operating on," etc. With repeats. Despite my mentioning that I was holding the dated receipt in my hand. And since I was on the original "It is out of warranty, you will have to buy a replacement," followed by something else because I gave up and hung up. That ate up around half an hour, which was followed by going to a ATT store, where- once they got through the five people in line- they immediately replaced the modem. Which is working as it should.

Governor Andrew Cuomo said he is asking fellow Democrat, President Barack Obama, to pay 100 percent of the estimated $6 billion bill, at a time that state and local government budgets remain constrained by a weak economic recovery.
Yeah, New York has the same problems as every other state, so the feds should reach into our pockets to pay ALL of New Effing York's costs.

I'm ashamed to say I didn't think to say something about this

Ambassador Chris Stevens and diplomat Sean Smith were not the only Americans in the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, however, a fact some of us have lost sight of in our focus on the dead. The paint test
You may remember I took a bayonet and painted it with header paint, to try out and see how it holds up.
Baking was done the other day. Instructions say to bake at 250F for 30 minutes, cool 30, bake at 400 for 30, cool 30, then- IF the parts can tolerate- bake at 600 for 30. 600F would screw the heat treatment* on most anything I can think of, so after the second heat I gave it another 30 minutes at 400, then left it in the oven to cool.
No detectable smell while baking, so no worries about stinking up the house or annoying the hubby/wife/whoever while using the oven. It's assembled, and I'm trying to decide on proper testing procedures. I need to pick up a kitchen knife, something like an Old Hickory, and clean and treat it; it'd be a better shape for kitchen use.
*Most blade steels I'm aware of, 400F would be the lowest temp that would start to affect the hardness, unless they're tempered very hard. If you're trying this on something you're worried about, I'd make the highest temp 375F; unless you're working with something odd, that's the temp at which you'd just begin to show the lightest trace of yellow on polished steel, and I know of no commercial blade tempered that hard. Or anything else, for that matter, other than some kind of drill or something.

The meeting between Obama, Panetta and Biden had been scheduled before the attack took place, and the Department of Defense is not commenting now on whether the three men were aware when they met that day of the ongoing attack or whether Obama used that meeting to discuss with his defense secretary what should be done to defend the U.S. personnel who at that very moment were fighting for their lives in Benghazi.
So they didn't even have to be called in; and we're expected to believe that nobody thought "Hey, our consulate in Benghazi is under attack!" was something that should be mentioned to them? Really?
If this is true, one of two things happen:
They're released, and the storm hits.
The media hides them till later, and when it comes out they'll be even more trashed than they already are. If they care.

A bad decision was made. For whatever reason, the President and his team decided not to send available forces into Benghazi while the US Consulate and the Annex were under attack. Perhaps they feared an ambush at the Benghazi airport; it could have been anything. Hindsight is 20-20 and I am not going to Monday-morning quarterback why that decision was made. It is not illegal to make a bad decision; if it was, nobody would make any decisions at all.
And on the storm mess,
In a perfect world any politician, from president down to dog catcher, that showed up would be handed a mop and told to get busy. If they could not figure out how to operate the mop and demonstrate a minimal level of competence with it, they would be booted from whatever office they held.

I should note that son's dog
has barely a trace of skunk scent on him, and is quite happy with his exploits. They're taking him to get his rabies shot updated tomorrow; he's still got a month before it's due, but they want to do it now.
They've also found out there's a female with several other little ones under a neighbor's shed; neighbor is trying to get some traps so animal control will take them away.

Based on the documents Dr. Best has submitted, the New Mexico court should probably issue a temporary restraining order against Marino. It appears that she has engaged in true threats, as opposed to mere rhetoric, and that she may pose a genuine physical danger to Dr. Best if she ever comes near him. The rule of law protects even those who scorn it. Just as freedom of expression protects the Phelpses and the Skokie Nazis who would ditch it in a heartbeat if they took power, laws against threats of violence protect even those who sneer at them, like Dr. Best.
But I can't see why anyone either inside our outside of the animal rights movement should ever take Dr. Steven Best seriously again.

I should note that son's dog made the acquaintance
of a white-striped booger cat last night. As I learned from a somewhat frantic/pissed-off call from Dad.
Bad: Scared hell out of them, and the yard smells like- well, you ever smelled FRESH violently-dead skunk?
Good: not a mark on him, his shots are up to date, and he apparently hit the little bastard from the side, and so fast that it couldn't spray him.
