Busy, busy,

Friday night in July

Hot.  Tired.  Cool off and go over the newest data.

And if you call this the idiocy that it is,

you'll be labeled 'anti-intellectual', and the reason the country is in trouble.
Two feminist geographers are encouraging their colleagues to be more mindful about citing the research of white males because doing so contributes to “the reproduction of white heteromasculinity of geographical thought and scholarship.”
This isn't amazing, it's idiotic.  And racist.  And misandrist.  But it's PC racism and misandry, so the other leftists will defend and support this crap.

Currently, I'm trying to find information on Blackhorn 209 powder (updated)

Hard data being hard to come by.  Depending on where you look, runs the gamut from "How dare you not use Holy Black in a .45-70!" to "Greatest thing EVER!", with little hard information of the "Here's a load that works wonders" variety.

I finally called Western and asked if it needed any compression like black: "No, you can have some space between powder and bullet, it won't get a pressure spike like back."  So there's that.  But I forgot to ask about actual maximum recommended charges.  Yeah, sometimes I'm brilliant like that.
E-mail sent.

So we'll see what comes back.

Update
I did some measuring, and found that 35.0 grains would let the 500-grain bullet be seated to the same level, and very slight compression, as with 68.0 grains of very-compressed black.  So wrote to Western and asked about that load, they say that 35.0 should be fine, but don't go over that.
This is the kind of thing that makes reloading, ah, 'interesting' at times.  The OAL they show for the flat-nose bullet is 2.515"; the oal I've been using with the Lee round-nose is 2.85" to put the bullet closer to the start of the rifling.  Why the big difference?

I'm guessing their loads are intended to work in a lever-action repeater; with a single-shot, length is much less a factor.  That also means, with the bullet seated further out, there's more space for powder.  Blackhorn, I'm told, doesn't mind some empty space in the cartridge(as noted above), but 'some' is a very open-ended word here; yes, I'm asking about actual amounts.  And giving some more information about the way I'm loading this cartridge to see of that affects the data(I know it does, but specifics would be very nice); for instance, having more space for powder, does that mean you can safely use more that if you were actually compressing it?

We'll see what comes back.

I just read a piece of true insanity on Bookface:

"I would have voted for Hillary had she run as a Republican if her policies were the same as they were on the Democrat ticket.I know a number of Democrats far more liberal than I who think she WAS too Republican for their taste and that her policies WERE too conservative."
That's a level of- crap, I can't even call this 'stupidity', it goes far beyond that.  In various ways.

'Journalism'

"You told the truth about something we'd rather hide!  You're off reporting, and we might fire you for this!"
Yeah, that works.

Reading the MDA tweet, you’d think that the shooting had nothing to do with radical Leftist politics.  It was probably just some white, racist, CCW holder who was mad that the police were protecting a MKL-esque civil rights march.

This is no different than the reaction to the Congressional Baseball Shooting.  Violent Leftist listens to violent Leftist message, shoots people, the Leftists who encouraged it use the event to call for more Lefty gun control.

Sorry, but I’m not buying it.

While Only Black Lives Matter and other such groups are part of it,

bullshit like this is a big reason lots of people don't like/trust cops anymore.

STOP SHOOTING DOGS THAT ARE  NOT A DAMNED THREAT.  AND STOP HIDING IT ALL BEHIND 'OFFICER SAFETY'.  It is bullshit, and people know it, and it pisses them off even more.

Some things just don't change much

One of the letters was written by a man called Masclus, who is best known for a previous letter to his Commanding Officers asking for more beer, this time asking for leave from work.
Troops need beer.  Always.

Getting drunk with Mattis ought to lead to some real stories; too bad nobody can write that for real.

Sweden is so screwed...
It's a country where, while Muslim rapists and terrorists are forgiven, critics of immigrant conduct are punished. In May, a 70-year-old woman in Dalarna, Sweden, was arrested for writing on Facebook in 2015 about immigrants who “set cars on fire and urinate and defecate in the streets.” (She faces up to four years in prison.)

No surprise, then, that on July 7, Jyllands-Posten reported that the Swedish government plans to alter the nation's Constitution in such a way as to give itself the power to limit online free speech about precisely these ticklish matters. Among other things, wrote Jyllands-Posten, it will become illegal “for certain websites to publicize information about private persons' ethnicity or conviction of crimes.”
"All is wonderful, and if you say otherwise we'll throw you in prison."  Yeah, that'll work.

"Why would you want to carry a GUN when you're in the forest?"
Because some things there might want to eat you.  Dumbass.

So, the San Francisco train system won't release video of various crimes.  Because sensitive and caring.  And they're apparently too effing stupid to understand just what their 'reasons' are telling people.
Allen told us the agency issued an explanation for why it is being tight-lipped about the thefts.

“To release these videos would create a high level of racially insensitive commentary toward the district,” she was told. “And in addition it would create a racial bias in the riders against minorities on the trains.”

According to a memo distributed to BART Directors, the agency won’t do a press release on the June 30 theft because it was a “petty crime” that would make BART look “crime ridden.” Furthermore, it would “unfairly affect and characterize riders of color, leading to sweeping generalizations in media reports.”

Yesterday morning heard an airplane engine that sounded a bit odd,

and looked up to see a red biplane flying over, followed by a silver one.  Couldn't get a shot of the red, but here's the other
No idea if some kind of event, or just a couple of people with restored planes.

Why do they lie?

Because it's all they've got.

"Racists!"  Yawn.  They leftists have been using that club so long, at anyone who doesn't fall into line, that it's nothing but splinters remaining.  Little ones.

Morons.

Stuff from the range

Asked a young lady her age(kids under 15 free): got a 'Why do I have to keep saying this?' look and "I'm 22."  Swear to whatever, people, she looked fourteen or fifteen.  Which has to be a pain now, but may be quite welcome in later years.

Guy who came in later, Air Force and 21, could've passed for a tall, skinny fifteen-sixteen.  Maybe should try to get them together to have kids that'll never look old.

People do lose track of time, I know; when you've already told them '15 minutes to close' and they just keep doing whatever, they haven't lost track, they just don't give a crap.  And expect the place to stay open for them.  Only a few who do this, but they're enough to really screw with your mood.

Few days ago someone had a Rock Island 1911 in .22TCM.  That sucker sounded like a .44 Mag going off, with a huge muzzle flash.  Now I kind of want one.

I love it when someone brings in a friend or relative who's never touched a gun, you help them get started, and they leave with a big smile.  Sooner or later they'll be back, and then matter of time before they've got their own.  It's wonderful.
