Ah, Saturday; the rain is gone

but the cold front lingers on.  It's downright chilly out there.  So...

Well, when the city is run by fascists and followers,

I guess riots and intolerance, and a useless PD, is to be expected.
Berkley Mayor Jesse Arreguin was revealed to be a member of the anti-fascist group, By Any Means Necessary (BAMN), on Facebook. BAMN orchestrated the violence that shut down a scheduled lecture at UC Berkeley featuring Milo Yiannopoulos in early 2017. Arreguin is allegedly also friends with BAMN leader, Yvette Felarca, on Facebook.

Remember Howard Dean? Asshat who ran the Democrat Party for a while? (2nd link corrected)

Mr. "I hate Republicans and everything they stand for"?

Be very glad this asshat didn't make it to the White House.

And a response to this crap from Volokh

Wonder if Dean realizes his comment would be considered hate speech and banned?

It's been wet out there, so extra reason for staying inside

to look things over

Written by a social-justice type, this is still a pretty good piece

on just how the SJBs have trashed the idea of liberalism.  Even notes that by writing this critique, the SJBs will go after him for being guilty of all the -isms and -phobias, etc.

And this is the kind of crap that A: has lots of guys dropping out, and B: causes lots of people to distrust the media, C: Causes lots more people to see the SJBs as what they are.
In March, Reuters reached out to me about the most recent study and my quotes were picked up by numerous other media sources. The camera crew wanted me to identify some reasons why I thought Millennials might be choosing to have less sex. I immediately thought of my clients, three young men who each separately had told me earlier in the year that they were terrified of casually hooking up due to fears of false rape accusations and confusion regarding policies such as affirmative consent.

From the reactions of the crew, I could tell right away that I was telling them something they didn’t want to hear. They all looked at each other anxiously and the producer continuously tried to steer me away from the perspective I was sharing of my clients’ experiences and onto some vague narrative about technology, video games, and porn. But unfortunately, the lived experiences of my clients don’t necessarily easily match up with forced narratives created in some media news room.
...
When the video was released online, all comments I had made about the effects of rape culture hysteria on actual hookups were removed, and instead it appeared like I was mindlessly chiming in with all the experts about all the horrible dangers of being “addicted” to Facebook likes. No substantive discussion about the real worries and concerns that young people actually have about hooking up. Only bewildered head shakes about why on earth young people would not want to socialize with their peers in real life. Must be the technology. Rape culture hysteria, well that’s only something actual rapists would be concerned about. Any large-scale trend typically has many contributing factors, so I’m not advocating for a reductionist position, but why not include these concerns as part of the discussion?

In a major victory in the ongoing Lois Lerner scandal at the IRS, non-profit election integrity organization True the Vote defeated an IRS motion to quash discovery in True the Vote v. IRS. The ruling means that everyone involved in the scandal could be compelled to submit every document related to the case and be deposed by True the Vote's legal team.
Good.  Now if the judge will start throwing IRS clown in cells when they cause problems, we might get somewhere.

How about telling the EffingBI "Start answering the questions, or go to jail for contempt" ?

Next time someone starts the "Things are SO much better in guns-are-banned-Britain!" crap,

here's some more clubs to beat them with.
More than 800,000 - or one in five - of all crimes reported to the police each year are not being recorded by officers, a report suggests.
Gee, I wonder why that might be...
The problem is greatest for victims of violent crime, with a third going unrecorded. Of sexual offences, 26% are not recorded.

Then there's this:
Violent crime in England and Wales has risen by 24%, including a 9% rise in knife crime and a 7% rise in gun crime in the 12 months to June, according to police recorded crime figures.

The number of murders in England and Wales also jumped 20% to 681, a rise of 144 – the highest level for more than five years. The murder rate includes the 96 killed at Hillsborough in 1989 following the conclusion of the official inquests.

Police figures also show that the number of reported rapes and other sexual offences rose by 14%, reflecting a slowing of the recent increase in reporting rates for these types of crime.
Makes you wonder just what the real numbers are, doesn't it?

This was brought to my attention because Kevin took on a "Things are great here because no guns" Brit once again.  Lots of good stuff, go read it.

And yet more reason to say "Trust the EffingBI? Bullshit."

A top FBI official whose wife received political donations from an ally of Hillary Clinton’s last year does not need to recuse himself from the ongoing Trump-Russia investigation, the bureau said Wednesday.
Oh, of course not[/sarcasm].

Seriously, what the hell?  Not that long ago if such an official didn't recuse himself, it'd be done for him to prevent even the appearance of a problem.  Now?  Effing Comey won't do a thing.

But we're supposed to trust the bastards.  Right.

Range day report

In this case some of it was purely "I haven't shot this in a while, I think it goes", that I'll leave out.  The real testing was some more .45-70 loads, some with black and some with smokeless.  All 100 yards.  Windy as bleep, so that may have affected things a bit.

Messing with black, this is the Lee 500-grain bullet over 67.0 grains 2f, compressed 2/10", pasteboard wad, and just enough crimp to keep the bullet from coming out.  Bullet cast from mongrel alloy
I'm pretty sure that high one was my fault.

Same load, but the bullet cast of 30-1 lead to tin
Group centered a bit higher, which is interesting.

Be it noted that using a blow tube between shots makes a big difference.  Also be it noted that having to dismount the tang sight after every group to wipe the bore is a pain, and why I'd never go to black as my sole propellant.

The real winner of the day(and the rest of these loads) was with smokeless.  Lyman makes a mold for a 330-grain hollowpoint, and this is it over 29.5 of Accurate 5744
Not so hot, even discounting the flyer to the left.  However,

Same bullet cast of pure lead, sized .452", then given a two-wrap onionskin patch and sized .459" over the same powder charge
Not a fluke; last time tried these two, got similar results; the rifle seems to prefer this bullet soft and paper-patched.  This hits an average of about 1525 feet per second; that should be able to take anything in this part of the country, including bear, with no problem.

Also tried the 500-grain bullet over 26.5 of A5744
I have no idea what happened to the 5th bullet; either I pulled it way the hell off somewhere, or it went through one of the other holes(there's one that looks slightly off).  Need to try this again.

I did have one interesting thing: on a load using the Lee 405 grain bullet I had a misfire.  Waited, gave it a second strike, same.  Pulled the bullet after got home, and no, I did not forget the powder charge, it's a dud primer.  It's a CCI large rifle primer, though, which is striking.  Of the thousands and thousands of American-made primers I've used over the years, I think I've had three that didn't properly go 'bang': one was a Federal LR that barely fired, and two CCI that didn't fire at all, and all of them were bought within the last year.

That's the part of yesterday I'll report on.  Now, once the weather allows, I need to cast more bullets.

In my opinion Karen Keller is a male-hating, sorry excuse for a teacher

In Karen Keller’s kindergarten classroom, boys can’t play with Legos.

They can have their pick of Tinkertoys and marble tracks, but the colorful bricks are “girls only.”

“I always tell the boys, ‘You’re going to have a turn’ — and I’m like, ‘Yeah, when hell freezes over’ in my head,” she said. “I tell them, ‘You’ll have a turn’ because I don’t want them to feel bad.”

Although her approach might anger some parents, Keller is sticking to her guns: It’s all part of a plan to get girls building during “free choice,” the 40 minutes of unstructured play time embedded at the end of every school day.
And why, you might ask?
Lego play, Keller found, has been widely attributed to accelerating development and helping children fine-tune spatial and math skills, two of the largest areas of cognitive disparity between men and women.
Short version: "The girls aren't playing the way I think they should, and Legos might help the boys, so screw the boys.  And 'free choice' means you play with what I want you to."

I'll bet she bitches about public schools not getting the support she thinks they should, too.

Why the left really hates Goresuch

Although progressives may be willing to concede that Gorsuch is preferable to Garland on criminal justice, they tend to view another contrast between the two judges with alarm. Gorsuch is more inclined than Garland (or Scalia) to question the authority of administrative agencies.
...
Prior to Gorsuch's confirmation, People for the American Way cited a 2016 decision as evidence that he would undermine the ability of regulators to "enforce critical laws, safeguard essential protections, and ensure the safety of the American people." The group neglected to mention that Gorsuch's opinion sided with an unauthorized immigrant fighting to remain in the United States.

Because reducing government power against people is a Bad Thing in progressive thought.

There was a range day

Windy as all get-out, but went anyway.  And it was good.  Details tomorrow.

Overrun with horny 'gators...

sounds like a Syfy Channel blurb for a movie, doesn't it?
He’d found it all right. In the early hours of Easter, a nearly 10-foot alligator had clambered up the back stairwell to the second story porch of their home, crunched through the aluminum screen door and made itself at home between the sofa and a swinging bench. It lay there like a plastic prank, but when they rapped on the window glass, it lifted its head

“It was just surreal. It was so bizarre,” Susie Polston said.

Say what you will about S&W, their customer service

is pretty good.

I checked everywhere I could think of, and searched around, and everyone is out-of-stock on what I needed.  So called S&W:
"Need a part for my pistol."
"What pistol?  What part?  What caliber?  What's your address?  It's in the mail."

Can't ask for better than that.

I'm trying to think of a suitable punishment for the cops and prosecutor

involved in this, and- at least in any non-fatal category- I'm falling short.
The boy, who has autism, is accused of battery of a school employee in Okeechobee County because he kicked a teacher last November. The offense is a third-degree felony.
...
Haygood said watching her son be cuffed and put in a law enforcement vehicle “broke her heart.” She said the 10-year-old boy then spent the night at a juvenile facility in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Really, asshats?  This is the best way you could come up with to deal with this?

The sheriff’s office and prosecutors told WWLP that they weren’t aware the 10-year-old had autism, and the state’s attorney said it will be taken into consideration as they look at the case.
Well, isn't that nice?  Howzabout explaining how you made it through these months of investigation without finding out about this?

Dammit.

From AP, who likes to whine about 'fake news'

Rather than reporting the gunman’s literal words, however, the AP reported the gunman as saying “God is great.”

On Twitter, the AP’s report gave no indication that the suspect’s words were said in Arabic.
"It's not faked news, it's- AUDITED news, that's it!"

Tuesday, April 18, 2017

Well, crap.

There's a saying I first ran across a couple of years ago, "If you never break your gun, you're not practicing enough."

Apparently I'm practicing enough.  Or close enough.

Which is great, except EVERYBODY is out-of-stock on the part in question.

Damn.

Attention Mr. Kelly: we're not your lackeys,

we won't shut up, and you can go screw yourself with an old shovel handle.

Sincerely, etc.

Let's see... blow off Congress, then lie about why,

then make a really stupid comment to the chairman of the committee...  People like Associate Deputy Director Ronald B. "Ron" Turk are why BATFEIEIO has the rep they do.

And that is not complimentary.

Since being called makers of fake news upsets people like Rosenwald so much, how about we just call them fake reporters?
So to review: Washington Post reporter Mike Rosenwald made an outrageous claim with no basis in reality, mocked everyone who pointed out that his claim was absurd, doubled down on his ignorance, made another outrageous claim to support his original outrageous claim, and then promptly stepped on a rake because he was too lazy to do the simple research he snidely demanded that everyone else do on his behalf.

"There is no truth!  Free speech is a tool of the white heteronormative patriarchy!  And we want the paper punished for not kissing our ass!"

They can't count, but they think they should control

what we own...
The San Bernardino elementary school gunman fired 10 shots before stopping to reload his six-shot revolver midway through, a report noted. This gave a teacher’s aide time to lead pupils out of harm’s way.
Some experts think restrictions on high-capacity ammunition magazines, rather than assault weapons bans, may be the best way to limit mass shooting. casualties.

Managing Unknown Contacts

Considering some of the crap going around right now, good time to re-post this.  It starts with
Talking on a cell phone.

Now we all do this in public, but how often have we seen someone totally engrossed in the conversation they’re having and completely oblivious to the environment? I use an earpiece usually and this keeps my hands free and more importantly my head upright. We all use cell phones day in and out, but be cognizant of not allowing yourself to become so fixated with the task of speaking, that you forget where you’re at and what’s around you.

And continues with(among other things)
What if he still doesn’t stop or say he begins to verbalize somewhat but still keeps advancing?

Once again, we can kick up our verbage a bit by adding some profanity.

Now there are some trainers that will tell you to never, ever use profanity. What I’ve seen over my career in law enforcement is that profanity is part of criminal vernacular and bad guys understand it. If you do elect to use profanity, use it to accentuate the message and don’t directly insult someone with it. There’s a big difference between “Back the f*ck up” and “Back up motherf*cker”.

So if we have range and time we can escalate within our verbal options from:

A polite request to stop advancing.
A louder command to stop advancing, using different specific language.
Shout the same command at the top of your lungs and accentuate that with carefully selected common criminal vernacular, i.e. profanity.

There are times that "BACK THE FUCK OFF!" in that 'hear me on the other side of the parking lot' voice is just the thing.

Seriously, very good piece on protecting yourself.  Go read it if you haven't already.

Why are Democrats such racist, bigoted assholes?*

Democrats in a public, political meeting cheer and laugh at the mention of the increased number of white men committing suicide.

The speaker says, maybe I should not say this in public, but when I heard more White men are committing suicide, I almost said “yeah, great!”.

But he does say it, and the crowd likes it, as he knew they would.

*Slimy bastards call anyone who doesn't kiss Clinton and Sander's ass a national socialist, they should expect something in return.

Guy named Ed Harris wrote on firearms stuff,

and a guy on Bookface found this link to a bunch of his articles.  Some interesting reading.

When PC and stupid gets in the way

of getting the facts out
This is the piece of shit they couldn't bring themselves to mention the race of for some reason.
