An the second one has come

Go forth, and enjoy

Definitely a free speech victory, and a lot of people need 'qualified immunity'

shoved up their ass.
His apparent good standing at the school changed dramatically when he participated in a discussion of the treatment of childhood gender dysphoria at an event in October 2017 sponsored by a conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation. He expressed his reservations with some treatments and his public comments were reported back to his colleagues.

Dr. Josephson argued that children are not mature enough to make such major, permanent decisions and that 80-95 percent of children claiming gender dysphoria eventually accept their biological sex over time without such treatment.

Those views are widely shared by others and have been cited as the basis for states adopting bans on conversion treatments for young children.

His commentary triggered a backlash at the school, which led to a decision not to renew his contract. When sued, the school invoked the Eleventh Amendment and claimed qualified immunity. The district court correctly rejected that claim and the Sixth Circuit just affirmed that denial.

It's bad enough when a cop commits some awful act and gets away with it because qualified immunity; now we've had city officials and school clowns claiming that gets them off the hook for whatever they do because- in this case- "We're a public university, so we're public officials!", which is bullshit.  So is "But that speech is not protected!"

Well, this is fun

And part of what makes it so is
The Wuhan institute, where WIV14 was sequenced, is at the center of allegations that the COVID-19 pandemic was the result of a lab leak. But there is no evidence that WIV14 originated at WIV, Lauring says. “Unfortunately … people will speak of this as a ‘lab leak’ and jump to conclusions,” he says. “All they did here was isolate a virus and sequence it and upload it.” Any lab leak would have occurred before that, and probably elsewhere. WIV did not respond to a request for comment.
Problem being that 'All they did here' actually means "All we KNOW that they did here", and that opens a big rathole.  Because anybody who trusts a PRC facility to not be doing something else, let alone trusts them to tell the truth, is a fool.

So, a legitimate screw-up(and they do happen, see 'CDC' for one) or something else?

It now being at that first of two days,

the collection is available

Man, she and the Veep Wannabe really like the thought of censoring

people for 'misinformation'.  And don't want anyone with a big audience not having some 'proper oversight'.

And talking about Musk 'losing his privilege' to speak?

Both these bastards took the oath of office with the intention of violating it, it appears.  And should not be allowed near the Oval Office.

Or any other.

How did that mess in Aurora get started? With government help, of course,

and a fair amount of crookedness.
An obvious question: How did members of Venezuelan gangs suddenly find themselves in suburban Colorado? To answer this, we have conducted an exclusive investigation, which leads to a troubling conclusion: the Biden administration, in partnership with Denver authorities and publicly subsidized NGOs, provided the funding and logistics to place a large number of Venezuelan migrants in Aurora, creating a magnet for crime and gangs. And, worse, some of the nonprofits involved appear to be profiting handsomely from the situation.

The story begins in 2021, when the Biden administration signed the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) into law, allocating $3.8 billion in federal funds to Colorado. The City of Denver, which had declared itself a “welcoming city” to migrants, drew on this reservoir of money to launch its Emergency Migrant Response resettlement program, with the goal of housing and providing services to a massive flow of migrants.

So, with Biden and the Governor involved, no wonder said Governor lied about it.

I wish I'd known about this yesterday, in time for the anniversary

Bureaucrat for "We hate it when we have to answer to you people in Congress

about something we've done."  With a strong hint of "We'd like to punish them for causing us problems by talking publicly about this."(or so it seems to me)
“We have a great dialogue with them. We prefer to have our dialogue directly with them,” Murray said when asked at the conference about the SpaceX public statement about the launch licensing delays.
Note: when a statement uses 'dialogue' that much...

On the mess in Britain, some words that cover it nicely

From the book Quartered Safe Out Here:
Still, the Britain they see in their old age is hardly “the land fit for heroes” that they envisaged – if that land existed in their imaginations, it was probably a place where the pre-war values co-existed with decent wages and housing. It was a reasonable, perfectly possible dream, and for a time it existed, more or less. And then it changed, in the name of progress and improvement and enlightenment, which meant the destruction of much that they had fought for and held dear, and the betrayal of familiar things that they had loved. Some of them, to superficial minds, will seem terribly trivial, even ludicrously so – things like county names, and shillings and pence, and the King James Version, and yards and feet and inches – yet they matter to a nation.

They did not fight for a Britain which would be dishonestly railroaded into Europe against the people’s will; they did not fight for a Britain where successive governments, by their weakness and folly, would encourage crime and violence on an unprecedented scale; they did not fight for a Britain where thugs and psychopaths could murder and maim and torture and never have a finger laid on them for it; they did not fight for a Britain whose leaders would be too cowardly to declare war on terrorism; they did not fight for a Britain whose Parliament would, time and again, betray its trust by legislating against the wishes of the country; they did not fight for a Britain where children could be snatched from their homes and parents by night on nothing more than the good old Inquisition principle of secret information; they did not fight for a Britain whose Churches and schools would be undermined by fashionable reformers; they did not fight for a Britain where free choice could be anathematised as “discriminisation”; they did not fight for a Britain where to hold by truths and values which have been thought good and worthy for a thousand years would be to run the risk of being called “fascist” – that, really, is the greatest and most pitiful irony of all."

Now, part of the current bullshit:
A farmer has been ordered to pay out £3,500 in costs after a neighbour secretly filmed him riding a tractor with his grandchild in the cab. Video footage taken by a neighbour captured the moment Howard Walters, 78, allowed one of his grandchildren to illegally ride in his tractor.

He was spotted with the pre-teen child in the tractor cab in January 2021 as he fed cattle on his farm in South Wales.

Mr Walters had already been issued with a prohibition notice by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after admitting to inspectors he allowed his grandchildren to ride in his tractor.

However, just two months later, he was filmed by his neighbour breaching the terms of that notice.

A HSE inspector who investigated Mr Walters said the law was 'very clear', as children under 13 are specifically prohibited from driving or riding on or in any agricultural machine, including the tractor cab.

Jeez.
And let's not talk about this nasty little Stasi-informer neighbor, good little bastard he is.

(formerly Great)Britain is so screwed...

Borrowing from friend on the subject of Haitians in Springfield,

Ok, right now the Legacy Media and the Democratic Party (but I repeat myself) are in full voice about how, "Haitian immigrants aren't eating pets!

I really wish they hadn't done that.

Historically-speaking, this sort of full-throated indignant denial will be followed up in a few weeks by, "It was only a couple of pets."

Two weeks later: "It might have been more than a couple."

And ending up with, "It's their culture, you racist!" at about the three to four month mark.

Which sounds about right.  In the meantime, right now,
Haitian migrant wanders around the streets of Springfield, Ohio carrying a dead goose after killing it at a local park. pic.twitter.com/9JUy7qTSsp — Oli London (@OliLondonTV) September 9, 2024

If a picture isn't proof enough, there's audio of a police call from Aug. 26 about four people walking through a park with dead geese in their hands.

“I’m sitting here, I’m riding on the trail, I’m going to my orientation for my job today, and I see a group of Haitian people, there was about four of ’em, they all had geese in their hand,” the caller tells the public services dispatcher in the audio recording.

Right in the Legacy Media line: "Well, those aren't pets!"  Etc.

Two on American food

Some people, I believe it

Did you wonder what the hell was going through that Met Police bigshot's head when it started to threaten to go to other countries to arrest people for unauthorized speech?

If you like science fiction and fantasy, may I suggest

the Baen Free Library, if you're not familiar with it.  Lots of books by different authors that you can download for free.

On the fantasy side, I will suggest 'Old Nathan' by David Drake.  It's a good one.  And on the same page is another of his, 'Redliners', which is excellent too.

Go take a look.

Also, in case you haven't heard of it, Project Gutenberg; lots of old books that are out of copyright that they've converted to electronic format.

The question is how many others are already running around here,

and what plans do they have?
Panamanian authorities have reported that members of Hezbollah, one of the most influential paramilitary groups in the Middle East, have been detected crossing the Darién jungle. Authorities also noted that these individuals are linked to groups involved in migrant smuggling.

Costa Rica’s Minister of Security, Mario Zamora, explained that the recent rise in migration has heightened alerts for individuals connected to terrorism. However, no direct cases involving Hezbollah have been reported in Costa Rica so far.

Other cases of individuals with links to terrorism, however, have been recorded. “Costa Rica has detained three individuals with international terrorism alerts: two Somalis linked to a little-known group and an Egyptian connected to Al Qaeda. Currently, we have a person from Kazakhstan, linked to ISIS, in custody. This migratory flow has brought individuals with a history of terrorism,” Zamora stated.

Then we come to another question: do Biden/Harris and most of the Evil Party give a damn?

I cannot disagree

Let’s review: The president of a PUBLIC UNIVERSITY, an individual in charge of an institution of higher learning, THREATENED an individual for exercising her constitutional and natural right to speech, after he cited the EXACT SAME right as his reason for granting permission to anti-semitic protesters (who’s “from the river to the sea” call advocates for the elimination of a nation-state and its people, btw). In addition, the president never explicitly said what exactly was the reason behind the planned protest except to note that October 7, 2024 was the one year anniversary of October 7, 2023.

Pop quiz time: University of Maryland president Daryll J. Pines is:
A. Stupid
B. Intellectually challenged
C. Anti-Semitic
D. Stupidly evil
E. All of the above

I'd have to go with E
