Yes, it's Saturday,

and it's turned chilly again.  So stay out of that mess and improve your mind.

To paraphrase from Insty, I'll start worrying about all the 'hate crimes'

when they stop faking most of them.
The Diversity Leadership Council at Gustavus Adolphus College admits that it — with the help of other social-justice groups — planted fake racist flyers on campus “to educate” people about racism.
'Educate'.  Right.  If 'educate' is translated to 'Create a problem so we can save you from it.'
And that name: Diversity Leadership Council.  Makes you wonder just what was in the mind of the asshats who dreamed it up.

On Monday, the Diversity Leadership Council published a Facebook post explaining that it had posted the fake flyers to “promote, preserve, and protect on-campus diversity” and “to help educate our peers and campus community about issues of bias, and the importance of being an active bystander.”
"We don't have any real problems, so how will we justify our Council and keep getting money and attention?  We'll CREATE problems!"

Having people like this running things, no wonder Californicated is so fornicated.

Over at Hoyt's place: Coyote Gravity, which includes
Witchcraft seems strangely appropriate. For too long, the Left believed in a form of political sympathetic magic: if they controlled how the world was portrayed in news and fiction, they could reshape reality to their whims. Therefore, it came as a brutal shock to their system when the end result of all their years of plotting and manipulating was the rise of Donald Trump, the one result they absolutely did not want.

The spate of silly comparisons between Trump and the Mule from Asimov’s Foundation series are right in one respect. Trump is an element that our social planners did not foresee. Not because of mutant mind-powers, but because of an intellectual blindspot on the part of those who thought they were charting the destiny of the nation. He couldn’t possibly win, they thought. Our media propaganda machine is just too strong, they thought. Now they’re scrambling to figure out how they got it so completely wrong.

I have no memory of this, but

a while back I had a med procedure where they had to put me under, and daughter drove me.  As I was coming out of the anesthetic, daughter says nurse asked "Would you like something to drink?"

"Some Glenfiddich would be  nice."

"That wouldn't be good for you."

"Hey, it's good for what ails you."

Makes me wonder what else I've said over time.

And some music

The weather is shifting again, and some of my joints

really don't like it.  So sitting and studying it is

This is making the rounds on Facebook

I think someone was referring to situations like this as Gun Culture v.3.  Maybe v.4.  People with no previous experience with firearms, including lots of millenials, gays, minorities, and women, discovering that
They're fun.
They're handy.
If you're really concerned about being bashed, being armed is generally a Good Thing.
And, I think a big one with a lot more people anymore,
Lots of control-freak politicians really don't like you owning them.  Therefore, learning to shoot, and maybe even buying a gun, is another Good Thing.  Maybe a Gooder Thing.

Won't say where, but I've been working part-time at a range.  And the number of young people, women, and minorities showing up is very nice.  I'm talking both people bringing in their own gun to practice with, bringing a family member and/or friend to teach them the basics, and people deciding "I've never shot a gun; I should do something about that", and they do.  And they generally leave with a big smile on their face.

Every one of these people is one more fingernail on the blackboards in the minds of people like Schumer and Pelosi and Obama; one more person not paying attention to the demonization of firearms and people who own them, one more person actually trying them out and liking it.

I think this(along with some real stupid) is why some states have politicians pushing laws that make it a crime just to loan a firearm to someone: they want to make it as difficult as possible for new gunnies to come into being, because every one that does is another big nail in the coffin of the control freak's ambitions.

Case of 'Stupid Bastard' and "Yeah, that'll go over well" put together

In the wake of an alleged brutal rape at Rockville High School in Maryland by two illegal aliens last week, Montgomery County Superintendent Dr. Jack Smith is accusing parents of racism and xenophobia. He also claims threats are being made against students and schools.
The genius just drips off this guy, doesn't it?

"While I know this tragic incident has become part of a national political debate, I want to remind community members that the lives of real students have been forever affected," Smith sent in an email Thursday morning.
I wonder if he's including the victim as one of those affected, or just the illegals?

Smith avoided questions about the alleged sexual assault for days and had to be confronted by a reporter in the parking lot outside of his office before finally answering questions. He is in charge of 204 schools in the district.
Makes you wonder what he may've managed to cover up before this, doesn't it?

A lawyer wrote that crap in Cosmopolitan?

Jeez.
Now, Filipovic is a graduate of New York University Law. Evidently she is not stupid, and it is worth assuming she is quite bright and capable. Yet she has constructed an argument against originalism that should embarrass even the most disinterested of history or law students. None of this makes sense. Right out of the gate her thesis crashes and burns.
Some lawyers appear to be quite special.

Democratic congressional candidate Jon Ossoff has received over $5,000 in compensation from Qatari-owned Al Jazeera since January 2016, according to his recently filed financial disclosure report.
...
Ossoff disclosed his finances last week after he was criticized by Democratic opponents for his role in the foreign business. His opponents also pointed out that Ossoff's financial disclosure forms had been overdue for over a month.
But look at who endorses him!
Prior to joining Insight TWI, Ossoff spent five years as a congressional staffer for Rep. Hank Johnson (D, Ga.), who compared Jewish settlers in Israel to termites during an event at last summer's Democratic National Convention. Johnson has endorsed Ossoff for the seat.

Considering the bedfellows the campus left has chosen...
A number of fliers have appeared on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago bearing viciously anti-Semitic comments equating so-called "white privilege" with so-called "Jewish privilege":
...
Other fliers appeared in the above post's comments, including one making the monstrous analogy that the terrorist-run Gaza is actually an Israeli-run Auschwitz.
...
Notably, many of the posts are tagged with #BlackLivesMatter and #WeAreAllMuslim.

The modern university: "A mind is a terrible thing

to make think."
Asserting that controversial speakers “impose on the liberty of students, staff, and faculty at Wellesley,” the committee members lament the fact that such speakers negatively impact students by forcing them to “invest time and energy in rebutting the speakers’ arguments.”
This is one of the most stupid things I've read in a while.  Which is saying something.  "This makes the students actually THINK and ARGUE about things!  It's terrible!  We can't have that!"

Yeah, actually having them listen to people they have to argue with takes away from indoctrination time.

I went into what once was our sleepy hometown the other day. An Aztec totem devoted to Coatlicue, the earth-mother goddess, portrayed as a paean to noble farm workers, sits in the old park. The huge monolith is sculpted quite well and by a talented former colleague at CSU Fresno. Its dedication was widely reported; no one was so rude as to mention that Coatlicue was a fierce mother goddess to whom captives were sacrificed each year. (She wore a necklace of human hearts and hands and a cloak of skin.) But identity-politics art is never free from overt propaganda: The modern epigraph atop our Coatlicue reads “Viva la Raza” (“Long live the Race”). I don’t recall anyone in the city’s supposed illiberal past ever suggesting that “Long live the race” would have been an acceptable epigraph on any city art.
But these are politically-correct racists, so it's good.  Or something.

"Without government, who would put chemical booby-traps on your property?"

Seriously, what kind of fucking idiot would plant these around homes and pets?  Especially without any kind of warnings?
The family of a teenage boy sprayed by a cyanide explosive that killed their dog is outraged they weren’t told the device was planted near their home, reports East Idaho News.

Canyon Mansfield, 14, went on a walk Thursday afternoon with his family’s 3-year-old yellow Labrador, Casey, on a hill behind their Pocatello home on Buck Skin Road.

“I see this little pipe that looked like a sprinkler sticking out of the ground,” Canyon told EastIdahoNews.com. “I go over and touch it. Then it makes a pop sound and it spews orange gas everywhere.”

And, just to put the cherry on top,
The Mansfields said, as of Friday, nobody from the US Department of Agriculture has contacted them to apologize for what happened.
Of course not; being a Fed means never having to deal with the people you screw over(see 'BATFE and Gunwalker', for instance).

Cosmopolitan should stick to make-up and relationship advice;

they probably still don't know their ass from a hole in the ground, but they're a bit less likely to look genuinely stupid.
Original version:
That's now missing, with this at the very end:
Correction: A previous version of this article said handguns didn’t exist in the 18th century. The author was referring to the type of modern handguns at issue in the Heller case; however, this was unclear and has been clarified.
'Clarification'
Nor, of course, did the semi-automatic handguns at issue in the Heller case exist in the 18th century. But the “originalists” on the Supreme Court nevertheless interpreted the Second Amendment as protecting an individual right to handgun ownership, flying in the face of the text itself and the founders’ intentions.
Yeah, because everyone's seen how the founders just hated the idea of the commoners having arms.  Now look under their 'Technology evolves' section:
Take the Fourth Amendment, which guarantees “[t]he right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures” without a proper warrant and probable cause. Under a strict textual reading, would the Fourth Amendment apply to cars, which the founders didn’t have? What about to government wiretaps of personal telephones, which also didn’t exist when the Constitution was ratified? A strict reading would allow broad government surveillance and the exact kind of tyranny the founders were trying to block. But unless the understanding of the text keeps pace with rapidly changing technology and innovation, the words and intentions of the Constitution will become obsolete, and we will all be worse off.
And yet the idea of firearms evolving just annoys hell out of them, and the commoners should not be allowed such!

Make up your damned mind, Filipovic.

By the way, your idea of what a originalist thinks is just as full of shit as your understanding of the 2nd Amendment.  And what 'well-regulated' means.

This mess was pointed out by a guy on Bookface, who deserves credit for bringing this idiocy to our attention.

This crap doesn't even rise to the level of 'kangaroo court'

I hope the suits remove the ears, tails, and genital organs of the clowns who ran this 'investigation' and trial.

That hating Jews, according to a bunch of current 'feminists', is a required part

of 'feminism' tells you all you need to know about these clowns.
Palestinian feminist/activist Linda Sarsour says you can’t be a Zionist *and* a feminist. I disagree.

The question is this. Many Muslim countries perpetrate atrocities against women which include: female genital mutilation, forced marriages, child brides, systematic abuse of women by the justice system, revenge rape and honor killing. Why is Israel held to a standard none of these other countries, whose offenses are more extreme – are held to?

I can’t believe I am being asked to choose or even defend my religious, historical and cultural identity. The “left” needs to reexamine the microscope they use to look at Israel, and we all need to take a step back and remember we are stronger together: women, men, lovers of peace, and lovers of freedom and justice.
Except that a bunch of 'feminists' have decided that the evil Joooos- excuse me, Zionists- are the enemy of a protected species(who'd enslave, rape, and/or kill all the feminists, but they ignore that), therefore 'Death to the Juice!'

Morons.

New definition of BATFE:

Bureau of Assholes Taking Freedom from Everyone.

That these assholes can change their minds, write a new letter, and create law is insane.

Yell at your congresscritter, see if you can help get the Hearing Protection Act passed; that'll at least take this out of the hands of the assholes.

Free maps Updated

over here.  Can search, download the area you want as a PDF and print it.

Update: Phelps, in comments, advises that more up-to-date maps are available here.

Because 'Race!' and 'Racist!' is the answer to freaking everything anymore,

no matter how stupid.
Teresa Blankmeyer Burke, at Impact Ethics, "considers the problematic nature of gene therapy research aimed at eliminating hereditary deafness."
But beyond the possibility of medical risk -- which is rightly investigated and weighed -- there's this:
Members of the signing Deaf community argue that research which aims to eliminate or cure deafness is a form of cultural genocide. The argument goes like this: the use of gene therapy to cure hereditary deafness would result in smaller numbers of deaf children. This, in turn, would reduce the critical mass of signing Deaf people needed for a flourishing community, ultimately resulting in the demise of the community.
"If you want to cure deafness, you suck!  You want to commit genocide!"  The level of idiot in this is amazing.  And further on, this from another paper:
...The article aims to show that such minorities have the properties of ethnic groups, and that an unsuitable construction of the Deaf-World as a disability group has led to programs of the majority that discourage Deaf children from acquiring the language and culture of the Deaf-World and that aim to reduce the number of Deaf births--programs that are unethical from an ethnic group perspective. ...
Think about that.  Wanting to reduce the number of kids born deaf is 'unethical'.

One more bit:
...There is now abundant scientific evidence that the Deaf-World has the properties of an ethnic group. Many Americans, perhaps most, would agree that society should not seek the scientific tools or use them, if available, to change a child biologically so he or she will belong to the majority rather than the minority, even if society believes that this biological engineering might reduce the burdens the child will bear as a member of a minority. Even if children destined to be members of the African American, Hispanic American, Native American, or Deaf American cultures could be converted with biopower into white, Caucasian, hearing males--even if society could accomplish this, it should not.
So, according to these idiots, helping someone who's deaf be able to hear is the same as trying to eliminate a race of people...

Few years back there was a news story about two deaf lesbians who wanted to have a kid, but wanted the sperm donor to be someone who also suffered from congenital deafness, so that they could ensure that the kid would be born part of 'deaf culture'.  This is... deliberately wanting a kid to be handicapped because "It's our culture!"; I don't have the right word for just how disgusting this is.   This "We're not handicapped, we're differently-abled!" bullshit is disgusting.  And they're willing to keep kids suffering a handicap for their whole life.

'Consensus' my ass

Patrick Moore, a Ph.D. in ecology, is a fallen-away founder of Greenpeace. The following is from his 2015 lecture, “Should We Celebrate Carbon Dioxide?”
There is no definite scientific proof, through real-world observation that carbon dioxide is responsible for any of the slight warming in the global climate that has occurred during the past 300 years, since the peak of the Little Ice Age.… The contention that human emissions are now the dominant influence on climate is simply a hypothesis, rather than a universally accepted scientific theory. It is therefore correct, indeed verging on compulsory in a scientific tradition, to be skeptical of those who express certainty that “the science is settled” and “the debate is over.
Damn right.

The proper definition of 'cultural appropriation' is

'These people our out of their damned minds.'
A Hampshire College student is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a visiting team’s basketball player over her “culturally appropriated” hair braids.

People who should be eaten by lizards.

Oh yeah, Sweden is in GREAT shape!

...How do the Danes look at Sweden, with hope or apprehension?

I Tranholm: With absolute horror!

The Swedish media, which is quite pro-government and its leftwing policies, does not always report the full extent of the problems in their society. So it is hard to have a very accurate picture of what is going on. But we in Denmark have a good sense. We are very aware of the murders, rapes, riots, violence and the hand grenades that go on there. This does not often make the news but we know it is going on. And we don’t want to go down the same route.

This is the result of decades of policies promoting multiculturalism in Sweden. And what is left is this hollow house. You know, in the Bible it is said that if a house is left swept, tidied and unoccupied it eventually it will be taken over by evil. And I fear that this is what is happening in Sweden. Far from being a multicultural paradise, the problems can no longer remain hidden.

And Denmark's going down the same tube.
IT: In 2015 I wrote an article criticizing our politicians who for the most part hate Christianity but nevertheless use Christian values, especially charity and compassion, to promote their own agendas, in particular mass immigration. So I called them out on that.

A few months later I got a call from a politician here who told me that I was on a government blacklist, supposedly acting as a pro-Russian propagandist agent, despite having absolutely no evidence to that effect. I occasionally work for a Russian news outlet, but that’s simply my job as a journalist.

Today, in a society where supposedly there is freedom of speech, if politicians want to silence their critics they simply accuse them of working for the Kremlin, or having some unexplained ties with Russia. That is what happened to me, and it also happening to high profile politicians and journalists in the US, France and Germany. If you don’t agree with the multicultural policies of Europe then you are labeled a Russian agent. Which is really a form of political or character assassination.
Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

So, why does the Southern Poverty Lies Center keep lying about people?

Money.

Remember that Secret Service supervisor who said she would endure "jail time" rather than "taking a bullet" for what she regarded as a "disaster" for America. ?

Looks like she won't have to worry about it.

Still to be seen: whether it's an actual "You're gone", or if they'll just shuffle her out of public view.

Ignore all else: this crap is Exhibit A of why NPR should be defunded.  (link fixed)
Lying bastards.

Due to circumstances I'm not complaining about,

another weekend spent at a range.  And I'll repeat something I said before: if Pelosi and Schumer & Co. saw the mix of ages and people showing up to shoot, they'd loose bowel control.

Especially the Ladies Only concealed-carry classes.  Which are packed.

Kind of hard to keep the illusion that 'Gun owners are all old white men!' after that.  And all the people in their 20's renting guns to try out, deciding what to buy, or just showing up to practice.  Ladies showing up with a friend or relative to whom they're giving lessons.  And the smiles on faces when they're finished.

To note one that kicked my giggle switch: lady in a light summer dress(been really warm here the last few days) and 3 or 4" heels, giving a AR and a pistol a serious workout.

Every one of those people is another kick in the ass of the gun bigots and hoplophobes.  And it couldn't happen to more deserving people.
