it went from 'by 6pm' to 'by 9pm'.  Which, amazingly, happened just after 7, when the UPS truck pulled up right after I got back to the house.  So that's done.

This was one of those concepts I thought we could safely move into the “DONE” column. Apparently somebody reopened the ticket. Every so often I encounter someone online who is not merely saying something I disagree with about taxes or immigration or DEI initiatives or policing or any of the other 14 billion subjects on which people can disagree.

I’m talking about actual racist garbage. The genuine article. The belief that race itself determines intelligence, character, worth, civilization, morality, or where somebody belongs in the human pecking order. And then I look at the followers, and then I see people I know.

Mutuals. People I’ve talked to for years. People I thought were friends. And, yes, that bothers me. I would hope I don’t have to write a 1,000-word philosophical treatise explaining why. If somebody is comfortable talking about how people with my skin color are inherently stupid, inferior, violent, uncivilized, or otherwise defective, and you apparently find this person interesting enough that you want their thoughts delivered directly to your electronic breakfast table every morning, I am going to have some questions.


And how, I have PT to attend.  And a few other things after that.  Busy day.

Last night, it seems UPS finally found my package

and informed me it'll be here Wednesday.

Things have improved, but

the shoulder is still a ways from normal.  Flexibility in good shape, strength still needs work but limits on pushing it.  Damned if, at this point, I want to find myself having to have any more repair work done.

Spotted a web of bagworms in the pecan tree, just about two feet further up than the pruning pole can reach, so used the dolly to bring the ladder around, set it up, and cut the branch they're on and got it down.  No more I can spot right  now, I'll watch it the next while.

The shoulder is telling me to take it easy, between this today and the bicycle the last few days; the PT was right, that is more wearing on the shoulder than I'd thought.  I'll probably skip that today and let it rest.*

Lord, there's a lot of stuff I want to do, but between this and- in a couple of cases- waiting on parts, I can't yet.


*Yes, it's hot and humid outside, but that's not why I'm skipping today, honest.

Conversation with the PT this morning:

Couple of new exercises done, before I left "Are there some of these I should do at home, or give it a rest for the day?"

She gave me that Look, and said "Give it a rest.  I know there are things you need to do, so let the shoulder rest from this, and don't overdo it."

Yes, I'm listening.

A mix of things this morning

'In Common Use' reminds me of the BATFEIEIO and their 'sporting uses' or 'sporting purposes' used to ban some imports: nothing actually to do with the 2nd Amendment, but they used it to grab power, just like the gun bigots do now.


The gentleman has some thoughts about how things work as Progress Moves On, and that it often can make it harder for someone else to get their start, or move up.


Maybe we should start using 'went Seattle' to mean FUBAR.


Well, it's Californicated, even when they've already got those laws wanting them MORE is their first reaction to just about anything.

Cooled down and have some time, so much later

Because I'm sitting here after todays PT session,

and also hiding from the heat outside:

Flexibility is improving steadily, and I was told needed to work on strength now also.  Which is fine, except I'm not used to pushing muscle until it quivers and insists "STOP this right NOW!"

And no bicycle for at least another week, due to the stress in shoulders.  Which is fine, I could use the exercise but not at the risk of overstressing this.

Handguns are fine, but no way I'd want to practice offhand with a rifle.  And the PT said even with a rest, your off shoulder is still getting shock, so watch it and be ready to stop when it says so.

Improvement, it's happening.

I had been riding the bicycle for exercise, and some upper-body stuff as I could,

but except for PT both of those are out, so I've been doing some walking.

Well, you may have noticed that this part of the country is both hot and humid lately, so by the time I finished the route today so was I.  

The thought "I'm getting too old for this" did come to mind.

The bad thing about a gym is there's one that was built a little over a mile from here a couple of years ago.  The problem being it's been packed every time I've driven past, morning, afternoon and evening, and I really don't want to deal with a crowd like that.  Maybe it's not that bad inside, I probably ought to check it out to find out, once I'm healed up.

There was a sign on I40 westbound not long ago that had the Buc-ees sign

and below that 'Only 283 miles', which I thought a bit excessive.  

Unless, it seems, they made it for Nobunaga.

If you haven't seen any of this guy's work, it's pretty good.  Travelling around the US and reporting on good things, like chips, salsa and queso that automatically comes at Mexican restaurants in the south, and biscuits and gravy, and other stuff.  I did not know he had enough to make a book, which I will find on Kindle Unlimited and read.

Speaking of books, I haven't been reading as much as usual, but some things I have that I've been happy with:

No Game for Knights, short story collection from various authors, also good.

I've mentioned David Drake's collection of Old Nathan stories, which I very much like.  Well, ran across 
The Cunning Man not long ago, and liked it.  Character reminds me somewhat of Nathan Ridgeway, and I have to wonder if they got a push in the right direction from his stories?

Correia's started another series with Academy of Outcasts, a fine start on a fantasy series.

And Raconteur Press has published lots of short-story collections from many authors, take a look at them.

And now, I've actually got to start using this arm and getting some stuff cleaned up.

I have discovered I can run the riding mower

mostly one-handed if I'm careful, which is good because I need to do some mowing and don't want to ask son to come over after work and do it.  

Bad thing: we had rain over the weekend(good, this time of year), and it was enough that it'll be afternoon before the grass is dry enough to cut.  Which means can't do it this morning while it's just warm.

Ah well, other things I can work at  now.  Limited, but I can.

In other news "It depends on what you mean by 'rape' why our numbers are up."  So says Commissar Mayor.  I'm sure that's comforting to the victims.
Also, a lot of rents have- surprise!- had big leaps.

It has been a day of sort-of progress

which started with the daily exercises for the shoulder, then icing it for a bit, then getting some trash separated and tossed, and sorting out some things that need to go back to a friend, getting the riding mower going to cut the front yard(yes, mostly one-handed), realizing why I can't find something I was looking for, wondering how the hell I'm going to get this room cleaned/organized even with two working hands, and taking a walk.  Which, in current conditions, is known as a mobile sweat bath.

Now I'm cooled off, and realized I need to put the mower back in the shed.

Yes, there's  news going on out there, right now I don't care.
