Ah well, the night is more than slightly nasty,

so it's a good time to stay in and study

But- but AUSTRALIA! Gun bans and confiscations, like Obama likes!

This is unpossible!
Australians may be more at risk from gun crime than ever before with the country’s underground market for firearms ballooning in the past decade.

Previously unseen police statistics show that the number of pistol-related offences doubled in Victoria and rose by 300 per cent in New South Wales. At least two other states also saw a massive jump in firearms-related offences during the same period.
Hmmm... 'previously unseen', I wonder why...

NSW: in 2014-15, there were 3463 firearms charges, up 83 per cent on 2005-06
Victoria: in 2014-15, there were 3645 firearms-related charges, up 85 per cent on 2005-06
SA: in 2014, charges for possession and trafficking of guns are up 49 per cent on 2010-11
Tasmania: in 2014, charges for unlawful gun possession were up 32 per cent on 2005-06

Someone tell President The Australian Solution that that solution isn't quite working out.

I just love this:
There are several ways to interpret the data: either the rate of offending has risen dramatically in the past decade or the problem was always much larger than previously understood.
Let me give you a hand: repeat after me, Criminals Don't Obey Gun Laws.

And, lest we think some common sense might break out down there,
Samantha Lee, an advocate for tighter firearms laws at Gun Control Australia, said the laws regulating the sale of ammunition in Tasmania and Victoria were weak.
...
“Gun enthusiasts are quite right when they say guns don’t kill – it’s the bullets that kill,” he said. “For many years we just focused on the guns and ignored the ammunition that was lying around – now people are starting to realise that ammunition control is just as important.”
As Kevin has put it, "The philosophy cannot be wrong! Do it again, ONLY HARDER!!"  And with these nanny-state control freaks, that means "The bans and restrictions just didn't go far ENOUGH, if we pass even more, THAT WILL FIX IT!"

When the .gov controls your health care,

the people in charge don't give a rats ass about YOU.  Just their numbers.
The administration wants to penalize doctors who routinely order the PSA blood test. Under a proposed policy, those doctors will get demerits for being considered over-spenders, while doctors who skip the test will be rewarded with a high “quality” rating from the government — and be paid more.

The Obama administration claims less care is better. That’s double-talk. An editorial in the current issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association points to a sudden, disturbing drop in prostate-cancer detection since 2011, when the United States Preventive Services Task Force recommended against using this simple test.
Not just men they don't care about, either.
In truth, the Obama administration is more concerned with cutting care than preventing cancer deaths. Guided by that warped philosophy, the task force told women in their 40s not to get mammograms, and advised women 50 and over to settle for a mammogram every two years, instead of annually.

The task force’s crass calculation was that 1,900 women in their 40s have to be screened to save one life. Not worth it, they said.

Never forget, their numbers include "How many people no longer useful(in our estimation) can we get rid of by just not treating them?"

Some ideas, just for having them, the politician

should be removed from office.  Then horsewhipped, then banned from EVER again holding any elected office.
From the back of the room came the comment, “The issue is the potentially chilling effect that this technology has on freedom of association and freedom of transportation.”

That’s literally the phrase that leapt into my mind when I read the monumentally over-reaching idea posed by Nury Martinez, a 6th district Los Angeles city councilwoman, to access a database of license plates captured in certain places around the city, translate these license plates to obtain the name and address of each owner, and send to that owner a letter explaining that the vehicle was seen in, “an area known for prostitution.”
...
Have Ms. Martinez and the Los Angeles City Council taken leave of their senses? This scheme makes, literally, a state issue out of legal travel to arbitrary places deemed by some — but not by a court, and without due process — to be “related” to crime in general, not to any specific crime.

There isn’t “potential” for abuse here, this is a legislated abuse of technology that is already controversial when it’s used by police for the purpose of seeking stolen vehicles, tracking down fugitives and solving specific crimes.

Yeah, proof that the politician is lying to you really makes it harder for him to sell it.

I hate ice storms

Even relatively minor ones.  The current mess is quite small compared to the one seven or eight years ago, but it's still causing problems.

Speaking of problems, from one of the Occutards favorite billionaires(whose money in politics is just fine according to them),
“To feel and even think that the White Race is inferior in every conceivable plane is natural, given its history and current documents. Let the White Race perish in blood and suffering. Long live the multicultural, racially mixed and classless ecological society! Long live anarchy!”
I knew he was a corrupt, nasty bastard, didn't realize that he was such a racist asshole.

Crap like this, and people like this, are why I consider CAIR to be openly on the enemy side.  As a general rule, if someone in that corrupt group is against it, it may well be a good idea.

Used to work with a guy who, while very left on a lot of things, was seriously pissed at the various tribes in OK being able to issue their own car tags and sell cigarettes and such without paying state taxes on them.  Considering his views on same-sex marriage, this would've REALLY set him off.

In a press release, the MSA said that “much of the coverage of this resolution has revolved around the discussion of the potential perpetuation of Islamophobia.”

“While this was certainly a valid and unanswered concern of the body, much of the discussion in the forum on this resolution also revolved around the logistics of how a moment of recognition could be implemented on a college campus of thousands,” it added.
A: Bullshit.  Utter, undiluted bullshit.
B: Translation: "We still think anyone who wants a moment of remembrance of 9/11 is a horribleracistislamophobicbadthinker, but we really don't like the heat we're getting."

The Professional Journalism of the NYeffingTimes:
On Sunday, a 20-year-old Israeli woman was stabbed to death, another Israeli was rammed by a car and attacked with a knife and a third was assaulted by a knife-wielding teen affiliated with the Islamic Jihad terror group.

All three assailants were killed in the course of their attacks.

But the headline to the Times’ story about Sunday’s attacks did away with cause and effect, muddled victim and aggressor: “1 Israeli, 3 Palestinians Killed in Attacks in West Bank.” The online headline was later changed, but the print headline Monday morning was equally obtuse: “West Bank Faces Spate of Assaults That Kill 4.” The “West Bank” faced nothing. It was Israelis who faced assaults.
None of this crap is accidental, or done in unknowing error.  Which makes you wonder just what the thought processes are of the clowns doing this.  Do they hate Jews in general, or only those in Israel?  Is it that a Preferred Victim Group can do anything and won't be called on it?  What the hell is going on in their brains?

Sometimes, something to study

really can be something of a blessing...

The Chicago Democrat Machine in action:

Something- even the murder of a black kid by a cop- might endanger the chosen candidates' re-election chances?  Cover it up till will after the election.

And President "The cop acted stupidly" won't say a damn word about it.  Because Democrat.

It's cold, and raining, and this is on the clothesline pole out back right now:

My saved-up bitching from yesterday:

Isn't it nice that they'll allow a mens group as long as they say and do the right things, and have the right feminist focus.
Hatred and disdain for one sex, but it's all right; they hate men, so it's all good.

Assuming the whole place doesn't blow up before Friday, this mess will continue and probably get worse.  Now let me put on my "I pretend to be a serious analyst" hat on something:
We have long been recording the movement of a large amount of oil and petroleum products to Turkey from ISIS-occupied territories. This explains the significant funding the terrorists are receiving. Now they are stabbing us in the back by hitting our planes that are fighting terrorism. This is happening despite the agreement we have signed with our American partners to prevent air incidents, and, as you know, Turkey is among those who are supposed to be fighting terrorism within the American coalition.

If ISIS is making so much money – we are talking about tens or maybe even hundreds of millions, possibly billions of dollars – in oil trade and they are supported by the armed forces of an entire state, it is clear why they are being so daring and impudent, why they are killing people in such gruesome ways, why they are committing terrorist attacks all over the world, including in the heart of Europe.
Ok, the Turk PM is a big Muslim Brotherhood guy.  So is Obama.  Mix all this together: Turkey is being run by the Brotherhood and they're working hard to turn it into a complete theocracy, which Obama seems to approve of.  They're making a lot of money for the project by dealing oil for ISIS, which helps the project forward.

This could help explain why the ROE on the air strikes against ISIS have been such a damned joke: if the Air Force and Navy were turned loose with actual "Destroy all their oil trucks and artillery and other gear" rules, they'd hardly have a pot left to piss in, which would mean little or no oil going through Turkey.  What if the "You cannot bomb unless there will be zero non-combatant casualties" rule is sincere, but largely a smokescreen to hide why he REALLY doesn't want the infrastructure wiped?

Yeah, may may be way off the spot; considering how this mess has been run so far, it may be right on.  Could also explain some of Obamas' attitude: the terrorist attacks are forcing him to actually DO something, but he wants to keep it as minimal as he can get by with, so he speaks of 'a few killers with good social media'(makes you wonder how he'll explain it when they finally do an attack here, doesn't it?) instead of what they are.  And he really really wants lots of muslims brought to the US(multiple reasons), and this is interfering with that project, which explains why he goes from slightly annoyed at having to talk about ISIS to really pissed at Republicans and anyone else who gets in the way of his population project.

With news that even yoga classes are being cancelled due to fears of Westerners appropriating from other cultures, I am led to wonder -- why don't these prohibitions go both ways? If as a white western male, I can't do yoga or host a Cinco de Mayo party or play the blues on the guitar, why does everyone else get to feed greedily from the trough of western culture? If I can't wear a sombrero, why do other cultures get to wear Lakers jerseys, use calculus, or even have polio vaccines? Heck, all this angst tends to occur at Universities, which are a quintessentially western cultural invention. Isn't the very act of attending Harvard a cultural appropriation for non-Westerners?
...
Or here is an even better example:  the movie"A fistful of Dollars".  That was an American western with what has become a quintessentially American actor, Clint Eastwood.  However, it was originally an Italian movie by Italian director Sergio Leone (it was not released in the US until 3 years after its Italian release).   But Sergio Leone borrowed wholesale for this movie from famed Japanese director Akiro Kurosawa's Yojimbo.  But Kurosawa himself often borrowed from American sources, fusing it with Japanese culture and history to produce many of his famous movies.  While there is some debate on this, Yojimbo appears to be based on Dashiell Hammett's Red Harvest, a classic of American noir fiction.

Because apparently crime is so under control that the cops can screw with old ladies playing games.

Anybody who gives a damn about the 2nd Amendment, and thinks Christie would be a good President, is a fool.

Part the 873 or so of "The hell nobody wants to take your guns"
We’re going to have to take one step at a time, and the first step is necessarily — given the political realities — going to be very modest. . . . [W]e’ll have to start working again to strengthen that law, and then again to strengthen the next law, and maybe again and again. Right now, though, we’d be satisfied not with half a loaf but with a slice. Our ultimate goal — total control of handguns in the United States — is going to take time. . . . The first problem is to slow down the number of handguns being produced and sold in this country. The second problem is to get handguns registered. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition-except for the military, police, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors-totally illegal.
Note down there: have a rifle or carbine that happens to be chambered for the same cartridge as some handgun?  You're screwed.

This is how crooked federal employees are punished

Roughly a week after she was demoted for unethical and possibly criminal behavior, a senior executive with the Veterans Benefits Administration has been named the assistant director of the Phoenix Regional Benefits office.
If you're good little ATF brass and agents who help violate an international border, arm drug cartels, and get literally God-only-knows how many people killed, and lie under oath and such, your punishment is getting to retire with full benefits.  Except for all the others, who just transferred.  If you're a Secret Service agent who violates federal law, we're told you may get some days suspension(anybody heard if that's actually happened as yet?).  If you're in the IRS and violate laws and regs, the Justice Department says "No, not worth prosecuting."

And these assholes wonder why nobody trusts them, or believes them.

Speaking of anal orifices, we have MoveOn and Clinton:
...Hillary becomes the Occupy in Occupy Wall Street, despite the Clintons having accepted more than $35 million in speaking fees from the financial industry over the past 14 years. Team Hillary couldn’t pander enough to progressives over the past several months, as long as they felt threatened by those challenges.

Now that Hillary looks like she can cruise to the nomination, all of a sudden progressive groups can’t get on her busy schedule. And not just any progressive group, mind you, but the one that originally formed to defend her husband:
And what's one of the things "Bush LIED us into war!" Hillary is saying?
“Moveon.org endorsed [Sen. Barack Obama] — which is like a gusher of money that never seems to slow down,” Clinton said to a meeting of donors. “We have been less successful in caucuses because it brings out the activist base of the Democratic Party. MoveOn didn’t even want us to go into Afghanistan. I mean, that’s what we’re dealing with.
Wonder how the communists feel about being crapped on this way?

Why aren't they yelling?  Because this shooting doesn't fit the Preferred Narrative.

Expanding a touch on something Breda said,

Carry.  Everywhere and when you legally can.  It's a lot lighter than regret.

And
Retired NYPD Sgt. Pete Marsalisi, 48, said he was ready for anything.

“I don’t have a problem with the alert. I carry a gun wherever I go,” said the former cop, en route to the Dominican Republic
.
Gee, that's nice; wouldn't it also be nice of the People's Republic of NY(and MD and MA) didn't treat commoners wanting to carry as part of a peasant uprising, so they could do that too?

So when it's being used to prevent (mostly) white people from buying a gun

it's the First Defense Against Terror Watch List; but when its used on a protected species it's "Kafkaesque World of the No-Fly List."

Who wants to bet that someone will claim that being on the list 'drove him into the arms of ISIS!' ?

Seems a bunch of control freaks took the unconstitutional and just plain wrong garbage in Wisconsin as  how-to list.  These people need to be shown the door.
What was the reaction of the TEC to these cases that obliterate the basis for its investigation and its attempt to force Empower Texans to disclose its donors? On April 3, 2014, at a hearing before the Ethics Commission, the director of enforcement John Moore (who is one of the participants in the secret listserve) told the eight commissioners to essentially ignore the issue of whether what they were doing was “constitutional or not.”
And from Vermont,
The attitude of other state regulators is epitomized by an Oct. 25, 2013 email from Eve Jacobs-Carnahan of the Vermont Attorney General’s Office to the listserve members. One of the holdings of the Citizens United decision and other prior precedent is that it is unconstitutional to limit independent expenditures used to engage in independent political speech. Yet in the Oct. 25 email, Jacobs-Carnahan tells the group about a “bad thing” that has happened: the Second Circuit Court of Appeals issued a preliminary injunction that New York’s contribution limits couldn’t be applied to a political committee that was engaged only in independent political expenditures.

Apparently, she believes that the ability of citizens to freely engage in First Amendment-protected activity is a “bad thing.” That attitude seems to be increasingly common among government bureaucrats with prosecutorial power. It’s a dangerous development.
It's a development that should result in people involved becoming unemployed.  Permanently, in the case of state agencies.

Exhibit A:

Allegations are mounting that senior intelligence officials at Central Command not only skewed findings on the ISIS war to please D.C., but tried to hide what they did.

In July, a group of intelligence analysts at the U.S. military’s Central Command accused their bosses of distorting and selectively editing intelligence reports about the fight against ISIS in order to portray that campaign as more successful than it really was. As a result of those complaints, the Pentagon’s inspector general opened an investigation.

Now, the allegations of misconduct have extended to a possible cover-up, with some analysts accusing the senior intelligence officials at Centcom, Maj. Gen. Steven Grove and his civilian deputy, Gregory Ryckman, of deleting emails and files from computer systems before the inspector general could examine them, three individuals familiar with the investigation told The Daily Beast.
If true, this ought to end with the officers responsible having the rank ripped off their shoulders.  As a start.

Exhibit B:
In Al Jazeera’s latest Head to Head episode, former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency Michael Flynn confirms to Mehdi Hasan that not only had he studied the DIA memo predicting the West’s backing of an Islamic State in Syria when it came across his desk in 2012, but even asserts that the White House’s sponsoring of radical jihadists (that would emerge as ISIL and Nusra) against the Syrian regime was “a willful decision.”
...
Hasan: So the administration turned a blind eye to your analysis? Flynn: I don’t know that they turned a blind eye, I think it was a decision. I think it was a willful decision. Hasan: A willful decision to support an insurgency that had Salafists, Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood? Flynn: It was a willful decision to do what they’re doing.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot...
Lt. Gen. Flynn, speaking safely from retirement, is the highest ranking intelligence official to go on record saying the United States and other state sponsors of rebels in Syria knowingly gave political backing and shipped weapons to Al-Qaeda in order to put pressure on the Syrian regime:
If true, it means the Administration- including Hillary Clinton- was deliberately giving arms and support to terrorists.  Which might also have something to do with why Hillary still can't stop lying about Benghazi, and why we still don't know where Obama was while the ambassador was being murdered and three other Americans killed.  And why they got no aid.

Yeah, I know, sounds iffy.  Except for Obama pushing so damn hard to get and keep the Muslim Brotherhood in charge of Egypt, and a bunch of other crap he's done and said.

When the people in charge don't actually WANT to win,

and destroy the enemy(or actually call them the enemy, by preference), this is the kind of garbage you get.

And when this crap results in a US plane being shot down, and the pilot horribly murdered, Obama will once again say lots of empty words about "They will be brought to justice".  And do NOTHING that really counts.

And yes, the bastards ARE posing as refugees:
Third Stade de France suicide bomber 'snuck into Europe via Greece after posing as asylum seeker with fellow Paris jihadi'

At the LEAST this should be considered grounds for demotion, possibly being thrown out of the military.
Analysts at U.S. Central Command were pressured to ease off negative assessments about the Islamic State threat and were even told in an email to “cut it out,” Fox News has learned – as an investigation expands into whether intelligence reports were altered to present a more positive picture.

Fox News is told by a source close to the CENTCOM analysts that the pressure on them included at least two emails saying they needed to “cut it out” and “toe the line.”

Separately, a former Pentagon official told Fox News there apparently was an attempt to destroy the communications. The Pentagon official said the email warnings were "not well received" by the analysts.
There's no excuse for this.

And Obama and Hillary and Feinstein & Co. consider this 'common-sense gun safety laws'

The Metropolitan Police have launched a two week gun surrender, urging members of the public to hand in lawfully owned ” imitation weapons, BB guns and air weapons”
...
The Met insists that people handing over firearms (or, indeed, children’s plastic toys, which if coloured black or grey now fall under the classification ‘realistic imitation firearm’) “may not face prosecution for illegal possession and can remain anonymous”, though immediately continues its statement by saying “some weapons [will be] forensically checked for evidence”.
This is pathetic.  And note the 'MAY not face prosecution'; that's comforting, isn't it?

Also pathetic(and stupid, and insane, and a great big "Fuck you, NO, we will not do this here),
In 2009 Surrey Police arrested a man who found a shotgun in his garden and took it to his local police station for unlawful possession of a firearm. He was later convicted of the offence, which carries up to 5 years in prison – but escaped with a suspended sentence. Unlawful possession is a strict liability offence, meaning your intentions count for nothing in court.
Sounds an awful lot like what the National Socialists in Germany did, doesn't it?

From the European Agenda on Security facebook page, emphasis mine:

We are proposing to ban the acquisition of the most dangerous semi-automatic weapons by private persons. The remaining semi-automatic firearms used for hunting or sport shooting can still be owned by private persons subject to authorisation.
...
AND OF COURSE WE DO NOT THINK THAT THIS WILL STOP TERRORIST but it is an important step in our EU Agenda on Security.

"No, this won't bother the terrorists, but we need better controls over you troublesome peasants."
Link found here at UK Shooting News, and here's the Facebook page the control freaks use to tell the commoners they ought to behave themselves and stop being troublesome.
It's very instructive: "Yes, we know this won't stop terrorists, but we want more controls over what you'll be allowed to own, so stop causing problems and annoying us."

It's a promising sign how many people are telling them, in more polite terms, "You're full of shit, and we know it."

Yeah, Ho Ho Ho

Officials familiar with the bureau’s preparations, speaking only on condition of anonymity, said Director James Comey has put a brave public face on the bureau’s fight against ISIS that masks significant tensions behind the scenes with the Obama administration.

Bureau officials are deeply worried they don’t have enough resources to track a growing number of radicalized Americans inspired by the Islamic State, with more possibly entering as President Obama opens the borders to thousands of Syrian refugees.
...
“They’re basically lying to you saying, ‘oh we’ve got this vetting process to make sure that they’re safe.’ But you had the FBI director testify before Congress, under oath saying that if they have no information on someone they have nothing to vet them against,” Mr. Farenthold said on the “Capitol Hill Show” with Tim Constantine.

“We have testimony saying, and I think common sense also dictates that in a failed state like Syria you don’t have any government information, police reports to rely on to vet somebody,” the congressman added. “So there’s no way to do a background check from somebody coming out of Syria. There’s no way we can find out whether they’re safe or not.”
And I'd bet that, even if he admitted, this, Obama would still insist it is our 'duty' to let them all in.

Small improvements

Tam has a piece on what she considers the only two needed mods to the Generation 3 Glocks.  Which reminded me of some personal history:
First pistol I bought for CCW was a Kimber Officer's Model 1911*.  It had an extended thumb safety, and a standard slide lock and magazine release.  Shot great, and one day I mentioned to a guy who worked at the range that I wanted to put on an extended slide lock(at that time I was still naive enough to believe what I read in the gun rags, and didn't yet know how they got that name).  He said "Don't do that.  Just practice with it.  Put that extended on a carry pistol, and that's one more thing that can hang-up on stuff or get bumped at a bad time."

Thought about that a while, and decided he had the right idea.  The stock lock stayed.

That caused me, when considering some reading insisting I needed a extended magazine release, to decide "I don't think so."  Never regretted that decision.

Sometimes there are mods that are actually needed, like sights and/or a better mag release; the others are much like some fishing lures which are designed to catch fishermen more than fish.

*This was shortly before their prices went way up, and quite a while before their QC went down.

So let's start calling it racketeering, and prosecute the cops involved

appropriately.
D.C. police have made plans for millions of dollars in anticipated proceeds from future civil seizures of cash and property, even though federal guidelines say “agencies may not commit” to such spending in advance, documents show.
...
Since 2009, D.C. officers have made more than 12,000 seizures under city and federal laws, according to records and data obtained from the city by The Washington Post through the District’s open records law. Half of the more than $5.5 million in cash seizures were for $141 or less, with more than a thousand for less than $20. D.C. police have seized more than 1,000 cars, some for minor offenses allegedly committed by the children or friends of the vehicle owners, documents show.

When D.C. police seize cash or property under District law, the proceeds go into the city’s general fund. But proceeds of seizures made under federal law go directly to the police department through the Justice Department’s Equitable Sharing Program, which allows local departments to join with federal agencies in forfeitures and keep up to 80 percent of the proceeds.

The CSGV and Brady weenies and all their friends

will be seriously pissed at this.
In an upcoming segment of “60 Minutes,” Metropolitan Police Chief Police Chief Cathy Lanier says it’s unrealistic to think police will make it to an active shooter situation in time to save lives, so victims will have to prepare to “run, hide or fight.”
Recognition of fact, it is; chances of her stopping her treatment of gun owners, and people who WANT to own and carry, as troublesome peasants not to be trusted, I'd guess 'low'.  Which means it'll be "Grab a chair or something to throw at them, but you still shouldn't be allowed to have a gun."

She's spent years treating us like lepers who walked into the party, if she changes on this I'll be very surprised.

Second, found by Tam: a bunch of leftists do want to (finally) deal somewhat with the racist bastard Woodrow Wilson was, but they still want to praise every big-government "We must control the peasantry" thing he did.

There's also this:
Should we dismantle the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial because the president it honors did not speak out during his time in office against the Jim Crow system in the Southern states that was kept in place by politicians of his own party, overlooking his domestic reforms and wartime leadership?
You'll notice no mention of the wartime leadership that included throwing Americans of Japanese descent(and others) into concentration camps; apparently that's still not to be mentioned among the socialists.

And, once again, Democrats want people on the 'watch list' to have their 2nd Amendment rights taken away.  All the people on it in error, and for bullshit 'reasons'?  Well, sucks to be them, right.

And from the People's Republic of MA, the result anyone with a brain would expect:
If the intent of the Gun Control Act of 1998 was to discourage the sport of hunting and competitive target shooting and to disarm Massachusetts citizens, it must be considered a howling success. In 10 years since its passage, the number of licensed gun owners has decreased from 1,500,000 to 220,000, an 85 percent drop, according to figures provided by the by the House Post Audit and Oversight Committee.
Various other "Ain't we great?" stuff.  But.
If the intent was to reduce crime, then that law must be considered a miserable failure. Based on incidents per 100,000, gun-related homicides are up 68 percent, assault related gun injuries up 72 percent, assault related hospital discharges up 160 percent, gun assault Emergency Dept visits up 222 percent and gun assault outpatient observations up 538 percent. Keep in mind that these increases occurred when there were 1,280,000 fewer licensed gun owners in the state.
And:
Since 1998, gun crime in Massachusetts has gotten worse, not better. In 2011, Massachusetts recorded 122 murders committed with firearms, the Globe reported this month — “a striking increase from the 65 in 1998.” Other crimes rose too. Between 1998 and 2011, robbery with firearms climbed 20.7 percent. Aggravated assaults jumped 26.7 percent.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for gun-control activists to admit they were wrong.

And no, an attack like Paris doesn't require a tactical/strategic genius to set up; it does require believers.
If we keep pretending to ourselves that this takes "Extensive pre-planning and training," then we fool ourselves into believing that it can't happen. The real limiting factor is finding about a dozen psychos who are so mentally whacked that they think that this is a good idea, but are still composed enough that they can work together effectively. The tools and the tactics are easy to pick up. It's the broken, yet not shattered brains that are in short supply.
