Finland has sent letters to nearly a million military reservists, setting out their roles “in the event of war” amid rising tension with neighbouring Russia.
The letters have been dispatched to 900,000 former conscripts in the armed forces, including to Finns living abroad.
...
In recent months, Russian warplanes have frequently probed Finnish air defences. In April, the Finnish navy resorted to depth-charging a suspected submarine that was detected near the capital, Helsinki.
Neighbouring countries are also on a heightened state of alert. Last
October, Sweden carried out its biggest military mobilisation since the
Cold War to hunt for a mysterious submarine sighted near Stockholm.
Here's hoping that if Vlad I does start it, this time the Finns aren't short on everything.
If they aren't, it'll be a damn short invasion, I'd hope.
Free speech on campus. As long as progzi administrators agree with what you want to say.
The lawsuit recounts Sanders getting blindsided in February when
“uniformed, armed campus police officers” told her and a fellow activist
they couldn’t keep holding their signs and recruiting for the chapter
around the student center. Sanders had been assured by defendant Erikah
Brown, student clubs coordinator, that the activity was fine, the suit
claims.
Student Center Coordinator Sheri Rich, who accompanied the police and
is named as a defendant, told the students they needed “special
permission” for the activity because Blinn was “private.”
Rich also implied they couldn’t get that permission, saying she
wasn’t against guns but “on campus, I’m not so sure,” the suit claims.
Etc. FIRE is now involved; wonder just how stubborn and stupid the school brass are going to be?
Thoughts on the Waco biker mess
Apparently a bunch of people are screaming and moaning about how a rape scene in a tv show affects feminism, etc. Meanwhile, while they're whining about that,
ISIS is sending the 'prettiest virgins' they capture to slave markets in the Syrian city of Raqqa, where they are sold as sexual objects to the highest bidder, the United Nation's Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict has said.
After the depraved militants attack their villages, they strip the girls naked, conduct virginity tests, evaluate their bodies and send them to twisted auctions, Zainab Bangura claims.
...
They are first offered to the leaders of the depraved organisation, followed by the Emirs, and finally the soldiers.
Each buyer usually takes three or four girls and keeps them for a few months before they grow tired of them and sell them again, she told Middle East Eye.
She added: 'We heard of one girl who was traded 22 times, and of a Takfiri leader who had written his name on the girl's hand to show that she was his "property".
I'm curious; are any of the SJWs demanding action on this? Demanding stepped-up military action? Demanding ANYTHING? Or are they too busy giving love and support to Mattress Girl to care about actual open slave markets and mass-murder?
If this testimony is true, there are a bunch of others still roaming around who need to be hanged.
Pointed to by Tam:
I keep repeating, jobs are the side effect of a successful business. If the costs are such that it can't be successful, then there won't be a business and thus there won't be any jobs.
...
Basically, what Seattle et al want to do is make every
no-skill/experience required job pay like an associates degree in
mechanical drafting with two years of experience.
Eating out is a luxury you fucking morons! When it passes a certain
price threshold, people stop buying the luxury item and eat what they
cook at home.
But they either don't or won't understand that. Because 'Progressive!' or something.
First I'd heard of this:
A new volcanic eruption is now confirmed to be taking place off the West Coast of the United States.
The new undersea volcanic activity is occurring approximately 300 miles off the shores of Central Oregon, along the Axial Seamount, where a fresh fissure has formed, producing new undersea lava flows, and seismic activity.
This undersea eruption FOLLOWS a series of earthquakes at dormant volcanoes along the West coast in California, and Nevada, as well as several large “steam plume” events from Hot Springs, Cold Springs, and dormant volcano locations.
And it appears that slimeball McConnell & Co. have once again given Obama what he wants. And us peasants don't need to know the details.

About that 'ban' on military stuff to police:
The thing is, President Obama’s executive order is not a “ban” of police possession and use of such weapons and other gear–at least not in any usual sense of the word. Under the new policy, police departments are completely free to buy the gear in question. What has changed is that they will no longer get the equipment for free, or at rock-bottom prices, courtesy of the U.S. military and other federal government agencies.Right. And I’ll tell you something else about this ban. It doesn’t speak to federal police agencies. I would just as soon start with the ATF, go to the Federal Protection Police (you didn’t even know they existed, did you?), move to the DHS, and keep going. Then we can focus on local cops.
Mike Feuer is the corrupt LA City Attorney
who abused his power for apparent political purposes. He deserves a full measure of fame, so people know him for the piece of crap he is.
But the Los Angeles City Attorney, a newly-elected Democrat, pounced on the accusation, charging Scott immediately — at the time, Scott was the executive director of the Republican Party of L.A. County.
A month later, the city attorney would add additional charges against Scott, claiming he had sent explicit messages to an adult he believed to be a minor. No evidence exists in any police reports or court documents that there was ever anything to substantiate them.
Speaking of slimeball Democrats,
The bill would subject anyone selling or transferring a gun to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System and require that transfers be reported to the attorney general.
...
Gun show operators would be required to register with the attorney general and provide information on upcoming shows, including the identity of all firearm vendors, and keep a record of all vendors’ identities.
The legislation would call on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to hire investigators to inspect gun shows and examine records kept by gun show operators and vendors.
Once more: it's not about 'guns', it's about 'control'. They can't stand not having a list, can they?
More reason never to buy Government Motors.
In news sure to piss off people like Maloney, Primary Arms has AR lowers on sale.

In todays' "Let us kiss the ass of Castro & Co.", we have
HuffPo, and this story of a vaccine to help treat lung cancer. Possible? Sure; it's not like Cuba would have trouble rounding up some annoying protesters to use as test subjects; we'll see if it actually pans out. The ass-kissing starts with
So far, 5,000 patients worldwide have been treated with CimaVax, including 1,000 patients in Cuba. Lee said the latest Cuban study of 405 patients, which has not yet been published, confirms earlier findings about the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. What's more, the shot is cheap -- it costs the Cuban government just $1, Wired reported. And studies have found there are no significant side effects.
Considering how the average Cuban lives, and what people are allowed to(officially) be paid, wonder what that $1 works out to in real money? And just how trustworthy are the studies?
And then we get this wonder:
Despite decades of economic problems and the U.S. trade embargo, Cuba has been a model of public health. According the New York Times, life expectancy for Cubans is 79 years, on par with the United States, despite the fact that its economy per person is eight times smaller. While many drugs and even anesthesia have been hard to come by over the years, Cuba has one of the best doctor to patient ratios in the world. Moreover, the Cuban government's investment in primary care for residents and preventative health measures like public education, housing and nutrition have paid huge dividends in the health of citizens, especially relative to similarly poor countries.
Yeah. Huge dividends. Etc.
I used to follow Babalu Blog fairly regularly, and they had information from recent escapees from Cuba about what the hospitals were like for average Cubans. 'Huge dividends.'
And this from a guy who likes Cuba and makes allowances:
By the time I moved to Cuba in 1997, there were serious shortages of medicine - from simple aspirin to more badly needed drugs.
Ironically, many medicines that cannot be found at a pharmacy are easily bought on the black market. Some doctors, nurses and cleaning staff smuggle the medicine out of the hospitals in a bid to make extra cash.
Although medical attention remains free, many patients did and still do bring their doctors food, money or other gifts to get to the front of the queue or to guarantee an appointment for an X-ray, blood test or operation.
If you do not have a contact or money to pay under the table, the waiting time for all but emergency procedures can be ridiculously long.
Many Cubans complain that top-level government and Communist Party officials have access to VIP health treatment, while ordinary people must queue from dawn for a routine test, with no guarantee that the allotted numbers will not run out before it is their turn.
...
I saw many hospitals where there was often no running water, the toilets did not flush, and the risk of infections - by the hospital's own admission - was extremely high. Two things he mentions I think need to be emphasized:
'After the subsidies from the Soviet Union ended', and 'all the trouble caused by the US embargo'.
So Cuba was/is so well-run that without subsidies it sinks. And somehow, even though(as we were told repeatedly) 'EVERYONE else in the world trades with Cuba!", it's somehow our fault their economy sucks. Right.
Bit more here.

Hang on, isn't this how some horror movies start?
By taking a wrong turn in a dry
riverbed in Kenya, scientists discovered a trove of stone tools far older than any ever found before. Nobody knows who made them — or why.
And now they'll look for more tools. Which will lead to remains. Which might lead to...
Do I still have those silver bullets?
At 3.3 million
years old, they push back the record of stone tools by about 700,000
years. More significantly, they are half-a-million years older than any
known trace of our own branch of the evolutionary tree.
Well, part of it's obvious: they made them to kill and/or eat something. And now they'll look for more tools. Which will lead to remains. Which might lead to...
Do I still have those silver bullets?
"No qualified immunity for you!"
More such rulings needed.
The days of the NYPD claiming the power to arrest people for recording them are coming to an end.
Last Tuesday, a U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York judge rejected New York City’s qualified immunity defense in the latest court ruling establishing that recording police officers is protected by the First Amendment. The ruling means that Douglas Higginbotham, who was was arrested on November 15, 2011 while covering Occupy Wall Street for TV New Zealand, will be allowed to move forward with his civil rights lawsuit against the city.
And yet more from The ABC Gift Who Keeps On Giving:
“As much as I hate to say it,” Powell reportedly wrote in his memo, “the NRA is effective primarily because it is largely right when it claims that most gun control laws inconvenience and threaten the law-abiding while having little or no impact on violent crime or criminals.”
This memo, says the Washington Times story, allegedly led Stephanopoulos to try to “spark a gun debate inside the White House in 1994.” Translation: At least some Democrats – those who read the Powell memo, anyway – have apparently known for more than 20 years that gun control laws impact the wrong people.
This raises a prickly question. If Democrats know these laws are largely ineffective, and only serve to penalize honest citizens, why does the party continue pursuing such legislation?
Three guesses, two don't count.

"It's about climate change!" my ass
(OTTMAR EDENHOFER, UN IPCC OFFICIAL): That will change immediately if global emission rights are distributed. If this happens, on a per capita
basis, then Africa will be the big winner, and huge amounts of money
will flow there. This will have enormous implications for development
policy. And it will raise the question if these countries can deal
responsibly with so much money at all.
(NZZ): That does not sound anymore like the climate policy that we know.
(EDENHOFER): Basically it's a big mistake to discuss climate policy separately from the major themes of globalization. The climate summit in Cancun at the end of the month is not a climate conference, but one of the largest economic conferences since the Second World War....
...
(EDENHOFER): First of all, developed countries have basically expropriated the atmosphere of the world community. But one must say clearly that we redistribute de facto the world's wealth by climate policy. Obviously, the owners of coal and oil will not be enthusiastic about this. One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy. This has almost nothing to do with environmental policy anymore, with problems such as deforestation or the ozone hole.
Watermelons, one and all. It's all about control.
First, considering what they found, I'm half surprised any of the German guards
at any of the camps lived.
Second, wonder if they'd have preferred being handed over to their socialist brethren, the Soviets?
Constant acceleration. And later there'll be more powerful units... oh, this could get interesting.
Why to get rid of the EPA: it's run and staffed by corrupt bastards who want to control our lives.

Control. Whether guns or money, food or medicine, it's always about control
Then again, it's better than the proposal of Peter Bofinger of the German Council of Economic Experts. He wants to abolish the use of cash,
which he calls an anachronism. He frets that old-fashioned notes enable
undeclared work and black markets, and stand in the way of central bank
monetary policy. So rather than adjust policy to be more palatable to
the public, he'd rather leave no shadows in which the public can hide
from his preferred policies. The idea is to make all economic activity
visible so that people have to submit to control.
Denmark, which has the highest tax rates in Europe and a correspondingly booming shadow economy, is already moving in that direction. With almost half the workforce in construction and agriculture laboring, at least sometimes, off the books, the Danmarks Nationalbank will stop internal printing of banknotes and minting of coins in 2016.
After all, why adjust tax and regulatory policy to be acceptable to constitutents when you can nag them and try to reinvent the idea of money instead?
And if you can only use a bank card, they they also have a record of everything you buy.
And if you think that's just coincidental...

Civil rights win in DC; Chief Lanier and Democrats hardest hit
Gura responded to Lanier’s demand that applications show some special
reason–above and beyond simply being law-abiding Americans with civil
rights–by filing a motion for an injunction with the US District Court
for DC, to prohibit Lanier from imposing those special conditions.
Today that Court handed down its decision on the requested motion–and Gura was the big winner, again:
'Diversity' in the Ivy League:
Hillary Clinton had ANOTHER e-mail address. That she lied about. Chances of anything actually being done: damn near zero.
A: 'Journalism'...
The anti-gun reporters at the Hartford Business Journal breathlessly reported that, “a large cache of gun parts” was found — at the gun factory. Layers and layers of editors!
B: ATF just as corrupt and crap-filled as ever
In court filings and to the Hartford Business Journal, ATF agents charged that Stag is “suspected of ongoing illegal activity” and “unauthorized trafficking of guns.” They have also called all the receivers the company had on hand “machine guns,” and have obtained an opinion from the ever-flexible Firearms Technology Branch supporting that position.
Today that Court handed down its decision on the requested motion–and Gura was the big winner, again:
'Diversity' in the Ivy League:
First, few people understand how dramatic the boost is for favored
minority groups. If students were black or the “right” kind of Latino,
they would often receive admissions offers with test scores 20 or 30
percentile points lower than those of white or Asian students. When I
expressed concern about an admissions offer to a black student with test
scores in the 70th percentile — after we’d passed over white and Asian
students with scores in the 98th percentile and far higher grades — I
was told that we had to offer admission or we’d surely lose him to our
Ivy League rivals.
Second, these dramatic breaks rarely go to poor kids who are
overcoming the challenges of ghetto schools. Many Americans, myself
included, understand it is a real and substantial achievement — one that
can’t be measured in test scores — to overcome extreme poverty and
America’s worst public schools to compete with students from far more
prosperous backgrounds. But the same reasoning doesn’t apply to the
children of doctors and lawyers. Yet they get dramatic advantages as
well. In fact, unless admissions committees gave rich black and Latino
kids dramatic advantages, they wouldn’t be able to hit their diversity
targets. At the Ivy League level, affirmative action is an
enhanced-opportunity program for favored rich kids.
Third, affirmative action isn’t necessarily for every black or Latino
applicant. Cuban Americans often get less help. African students get
less help. And, worst of all, there are times when admissions committees
will actually ideologically cleanse the minority applicant pool of
minorities who are seen as “less diverse” because of expressed interest
in “white” professions such as, say, investment banking. If you’re a
Mexican American who writes an admissions essay about defending the
rights of migrant farm workers, you’re a dream candidate. If you’re a
black candidate who aspires to work for Goldman Sachs, you’re “less
diverse” (these are real-life examples, by the way).
So a kid fights through the 'acting white' crap and gets good grades, and if they're not after a PC profession, the universities screw them. For 'acting white'.

Because truth means nothing when it's in the way
of the Preferred Narrative:
Samantha Power, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, used her platform as Barnard College’s commencement speaker on Sunday to discuss campus sexual assault. She cited a familiar story. The problem was, the story she referred to has recently been called into question.
Yeah, who cares about slandering an innocent when you've got a narrative to push?

Wonder what 'bigoted, racist professor' pays in Boston?
Boston University, which has already condemned the racist Tweets of an
incoming faculty member, has now been sent an outrageous Facebook
exchange in which a poster who identifies herself as the controversial
sociology professor mercilessly ridicules a white rape victim.
Who obviously deserves it, for being melanin-challenged.

Apparently Title IX excuses any level of idiocy
School Administrators at work.
You’ve probably turned to your significant other and wondered aloud, “Those administrators are morons. There’s no reasonable way a storage shed could violate Title IX.”
But we’re not dealing with reasonable people here, folks. We’re dealing with public school administrators.
...“The funds have already been taken out of the baseball fund -- $10,000,” Carl told me.
“The remaining funds were taken out of the high school fund.”
It cost a grand total of $21,000 to remove a shed that was given to the baseball team at no cost. The school district took every single penny of the booster club’s money.
Well, on this Charlie Hebdo can kiss my ass.
Yeah, we all need gun laws like Chicago, where I'm sure every gang-banger and other dirtbag involved in all this obeyed all their laws...
You will be interested to hear that everyone 'conservative'(which apparently means 'everyone of insufficiently leftists views') doesn't think carry laws should apply to blacks. And uses guns as penis substitutes. And the NRA supports terrorizing neighborhoods. Basically every piece of bullshit you can think of in one article.
Personally, I'd suggest not giving the site hits, just wait for Joe Huffman to do a summary.

Under the heading of "Places not to be"
would be 'Anywhere assorted biker gangs are gathered'. Especially if said gangs feature names like Bandidos and Cossacks.
Note I said 'biker GANGS', not groups or gatherings; been to/around a number of those, no problems.
From another story:

Swanton said that the
restaurant's operators also were aware of the meeting in advance, and he
described the management as uncooperative with authorities in
addressing concerns.
"Apparently
the management (of Twin Peaks) wanted them here and so we didn't have
any say-so on whether they could be here or not," Swanton said.
So I'm guessing various members had been at the place before, there'd been problems, and when they found out a BUNCH of each would be there they asked the place to tell them no meetup. Pure guessing: despite previous problems the manager figured "They spend a lot of money and tip big, so who cares?" Well, you do now.Sunday, May 17, 2015
Because admitting "Our bosses don't care about your orders or the law,
that's why we did it" would be too honest and somewhat honorable for these lying bastards to do.
First, the lawyers misled the court as to more than 100,000 three-year amnesty applications that were approved between Nov. 20 and Feb. 16, when Judge Hanen issued his injunction. The lawyers said they didn’t intend to mislead, and they assumed the judge knew those applications were being approved.
Then the Homeland Security Department announced it had approved the 2,000 or so three-year applications even after the injunction — a clear violation of the judge’s order, and raising questions about the lawyers’ excuses for the first 100,000 botched applications.
'Raising questions' my ass; they lied and ignored the order, and now they're trying to keep from being called to account for it.
Also, more on that 'settled science vs. deniers' bullshit:
“Global warming skeptics have long charged that alarmists are over-hyping the dangers of climate change. Now comes a new paper from two economists in Singapore and Hong Kong that actually advocates exaggerating global warming fears to get countries on board international environmental agreements.
According to Kevin Glass of Townhall.com, the paper claims that the urgency of climate change makes it OK to deceive the public about the projected consequences of global warming. They don’t actually use the word “lying,” but by calling for “informational manipulation and exaggeration,” they certainly think the ends justify these very questionable and over-heated means.”

Comes from the major news weenies, cross-check because
it's likely they're full of crap.
Speaking of full of crap, we have that jerk Stephanopolous, who's even more tied to the Clintons than so far admitted(surprised?).
...Indeed, far from being a passive donor who strokes Clinton Foundation checks from afar, a closer look reveals that Stephanopoulos is an ardent and engaged Clinton Foundation advocate.
For example, in his on air apology for this ethical mess, Stephanopoulos did not disclose that in 2006 he was a eatured attendee and panel moderator at the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI).
And if you actually believe ABC had no idea of all this, well, there's this oceanfront property in the panhandle I'd like to interest you in.
And the Clintons, those 'When we left the White House we were broke!' saviors of the common people, are rich as hell and completely full of shit.
