Gentleman named Orr has been passing some news stuff from Europe to me,
one of which is a mention of "Oh, our son went into Ceuta and we don't know what happened to him!" His part in an invasion of Spanish territory getting, of course, little mention. Which brought up the question of "How much crime is not being mentioned in the media because it was committed by muslims who invaded, and most news media won't talk about it?"
Well, considering all the crap that's happened in mainland Europe that the EUnuchs don't want to/won't talk about...
Which brings us to the latest exhibition of idiocy by Swedes:
Major scandal in Sweden after it turns out that MPs from the Left Party (used to have “The Communists”’in their party name until 1989) have been writing letters of encouragement to Palestinian terrorists who mass-murdered Israeli civilians.
Expressen reveals that several Members of Parliament have written letters to terrorists.
I'd bet the explanation involves something like 'But intersectionality says they're the REAL victims!'
If you looked up the mess with the fantasist Arday at Cambridge, you'll not be surprised by this:
He fit all the DEI "He's a miracle!" crap, so the school fell right into it. Which makes them look like the idiots they are. Which brings me to this post:
The more revealing part came when people pointed out that a century-old organization claiming to defend academic freedom for all professors might lose something by becoming an electoral participant in one party’s primary.
Wolfson’s response on X was: “Apparently our first endorsement has upset some people. Good.” He added, “AAUP isn’t going to respond by pretending politics isn’t happening. We’re going to organize.”
In another, now-deleted post, he called the critics “clowns” while straw-manning their arguments against the move.

The deeper objection to this move, though, is actually practical. Suppose you are a professor who opposed El-Sayed, or simply does not share the AAUP’s politics, and your academic freedom is violated. Are you really going to bring your case to the organization that has declared itself a left-wing political union and endorsed the candidate you opposed? More likely, you will go to FIRE or the Academic Freedom Alliance, or look to Heterodox Academy for support.
And the damage compounds. Once the AAUP behaves like a left-wing political organization, it attracts more people who want exactly that while driving away moderates, conservatives, libertarians, and anyone else who does not want an academic-freedom organization doubling as a political faction. The membership becomes still more homogeneous in the process. Internal objections get weaker. The next partisan step seems even more obvious.
That is how an organization becomes trapped inside its own box and then mistakes the view from inside for reality.
"WE are on the Right Side of History, WE say so, and anyone who disagrees is obviously a fascist/nazi/fill in the blank with the current favorite insult!" Which is exactly what got Cambridge into looking like the idiots running the place are truly idiots.

The proper response to an actual peace officer organization would be "Screw you, I'll ask questions whether you or he like it or not."
If you haven't heard of this, it's become quite the academic kerfluffle, and the univerisity that's been kissing his ass is really not happy. And the professor started by calling critics and questioners racists, and now says "It's because of my autism and you should leave me alone."

Yes, a bunch of 'educators' spent a lot of time demeaning the trades
and pushing kids into college no matter what, and the current situation is the result. It was done deliberately, some by people who truly thought it a good idea, a bunch by people who are idiots or crooks pushing to make colleges happy no matter what it does to students.
Son learned to be a machinist, got his first job before he finished the classes and never looked back. And for quite a while he was, in his 30's, the youngest guy in the shops he worked at, and those shops were desperate to get more people. In his early 40's he was still the youngest guy in that shop. And they can use a lot more.
Bless Mike Rowe for his work and what he's done to push the trades, and it's working.

A University of California, Riverside professor suggested on a recent podcast that a former pro-Palestinian student of his, a convicted arsonist, was a “genius” and praised protesters who disable U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicles.
Dylan Rodriguez also spoke about wanting to be a “terrorist” and praised a former Hunter College art instructor who was caught wrecking a pro-life student table and later chasing a journalist with a machete.

That slight rumbling the northeastern US can feel is people starting to pack to get the hell out of New York.

“The BlueForge Alliance, who oversees our maritime industrial base—that’s 15,000 individual companies who are collectively charged with building and delivering nuclear-powered subs to the Navy … calls and says, we’re having a hell of a time finding tradespeople. Can you help?”
“I said, I don’t know, man … how many do you need? He says, 140,000.”

“The automotive industry needs 80,000 collision repair and technicians.”
“Energy, I don’t even know what the number is, I hear 300,000, I hear 500,000.”
“There is a clear and present freakout going on right now. I’ve heard from six governors in the last six months. I’ve heard from the heads of major companies.”
Sounds like a lot of jobs that don't require you to go into debt to a college.
But you must trust the courts! They say so!
Federal judge James Boasberg advised Chief Justice John Roberts and some two dozen other judges that his D.C. colleagues were “concern[ed] that the Administration would disregard rulings of federal courts leading to a constitutional crisis,” according to a memorandum obtained exclusively by The Federalist. That Judge Boasberg and his fellow D.C. District Court judges would discuss how a named Defendant in numerous pending lawsuits might respond to an adverse ruling is shocking. Equally outrageous is those judges’ clear disregard for the presumption of regularity — a presumption that requires a court to presume public officials properly discharged their official duties.

Donald Trump, however, is not merely the president: He is a Defendant in scores of lawsuits, including multiple cases in the D.C. District Court. As such, this conversation did not concern generic concerns of the judiciary, but specific discussions about a litigant currently before the same judges who expressed concern to the Chief Judge of the D.C. District Court that the Trump Administration would disregard the court’s orders.
Judge Boasberg’s comments reveal he and his colleagues hold an anti-Trump bias, for the Trump Administration had complied with every court order to date (and since for that matter). The D.C. District Court judges’ “concern” also went counter to the normal presumption courts hold — one that presumes public officials properly discharged their official duties. Apparently, that presumption does not apply to the current president, at least if you are litigating in D.C.
And what is both troubling and ironic is that only a few days later, Judge Boasberg, in a case in which he completely lacked jurisdiction, as the Supreme Court would later confirm, entered a lawless order commanding the Trump Administration to halt removals to El Salvador. So, one of the judges concerned about Trump following the law, ignored the law. Nonetheless, Judge Boasberg would later find “the Trump Administration committed criminal contempt of court” by failing to turn the planes around or fly the gang members back to the U.S., even though the court’s written (and unlawful) injunction ordered neither.
Sounds to me like the Chief Justice needs to have some words with some judges. Or else, sooner or later, face up to actions to get rid of some of those judges, the idea of which seems to horrify him so.

Tell me again why we shouldn't take phones away from kids in class,
and get rid of that rot known as the Department of Education.
Most of our students are functionally illiterate. This is not a joke. By “functionally illiterate” I mean “unable to read and comprehend adult novels by people like Barbara Kingsolver, Colson Whitehead, and Richard Powers.” I picked those three authors because they are all recent Pulitzer Prize winners, an objective standard of “serious adult novel.” Furthermore, I’ve read them all and can testify that they are brilliant, captivating writers; we’re not talking about Finnegans Wake here. But at the same time they aren’t YA, romantasy, or Harry Potter either.
I’m not saying our students just prefer genre books or graphic novels or whatever. No, our average graduate literally could not read a serious adult novel cover-to-cover and understand what they read. They just couldn’t do it. They don’t have the desire to try, the vocabulary to grasp what they read,2 and most certainly not the attention span to finish. For them to sit down and try to read a book like The Overstory might as well be me attempting an Iron Man triathlon: much suffering with zero chance of success.
Students are not absolutely illiterate in the sense of being unable to sound out any words whatsoever. Reading bores them, though. They are impatient to get through whatever burden of reading they have to, and move their eyes over the words just to get it done. They’re like me clicking through a mandatory online HR training. Students get exam questions wrong simply because they didn't even take the time to read the question properly. Reading anything more than a menu is a chore and to be avoided.
College students, mind you.
Their writing skills are at the 8th-grade level. Spelling is atrocious, grammar is random, and the correct use of apostrophes is cause for celebration. Worse is the resistance to original thought. What I mean is the reflexive submission of the cheapest cliché as novel insight.

The average student has seen college as basically transactional for as long as I’ve been doing this. They go through the motions and maybe learn something along the way, but it is all in service to the only conception of the good life they can imagine: a job with middle-class wages. I’ve mostly made my peace with that, do my best to give them a taste of the life of the mind, and celebrate the successes.
Things have changed. Ted Gioia describes modern students as checked-out, phone-addicted zombies. Troy Jollimore writes, “I once believed my students and I were in this together, engaged in a shared intellectual pursuit. That faith has been obliterated over the past few semesters.” Faculty have seen a stunning level of disconnection.
No, it's not all the phone. It's also what 'education' has become in our schools, which has little care for actual education. It's 'Everyone Gets A Trophy!', it's "We can't hold this student back just because he can't read!" and all the other crap.
It's letting kids they know aren't ready for college in, because 'equity' and because that keeps that money rolling in, and screw that the kids are going to drop out. Or worse: they're letting students slide through college, including MEDICAL STUDENTS get through(if they're the right skin color/sex/whatever the current excuse is) not knowing what they need to know. And people have, and will, die because of it, and the idiots in charge don't care, not as long as they get their reputation of being Good Humans Who Care About The Right Things. You know, like the bastards who let "We Suppport Decolonization And Trans And Gay And Getting Rid Of Jews" 'student' groups insult, belittle, threaten, and attack Jews and other students/staff who won't kiss their ass get away with it.
Oh yes, this pisses me off. Partly because it's screwing lots of kids out of their possible future, from grade school on; partly because it makes it harder to find someone who can do a job; partly for the simple reason that if I wind up in a hospital I want to know the staff isn't going to kill me because they're incompetent, hired because "We don't have enough 'X' employees and it'll cause problems if we don't get more." And partly because it includes teachers who see their job as, as one put it openly on his social media, "I only have a few months to train these kids to be Marxist revolutionaries", not dumb things like how to think, and reason, and learn some important facts and history.
And that's all the time I've got to yell about this right now.

You may have heard some reporter is in trouble for 'having an affair' with RFK Jr. If you're interested, there's a fairly complete, from what I've heard, breakdown of this mess, with Ace figuring a lot of this is based on "RFK Jr. is a traitor to the Cause, we must damage him so his endorsement won't help!", which could well be true.
I don't know what to think here.
I guess, first of all: Journalists are a mentally-ill, morally rotten lot. They tend to be psychopaths or borderline psychopaths. They routinely deceive people into revealing personal information that they then use to destroy those people. Yes, this is the job, but what kind of psychopath wants that kind of job?
Second, one of these stories reports that New York Magazine knew about this "relationship," whatever it was, for months. So why reveal it now? Well, you reveal it now to destroy RFKJr., to keep his endorsement from helping Trump.
Third, the affair, or almost-affair, between "reporter" and "source" is common in DC. The entire town is filled with sluts, adulterers, cads, and outright perverts. But the DC press corps refuses to report on this out of "professional courtesy," and Mutual Assured Destruction.
But they decided to risk the M.A.D. because it was really, really important to them to Get Trump.
95% of all press behavior (and bureaucrat behavior) of the past eight years is explained by this. They keep breaking all rules and violating all codes of ethics -- or, here, a prudent group agreement to keep all of their many, many affairs and grotesque sexual deviancies private -- because the imperative of stopping Trump is more important than any ethic, rule, or prudent social compact about hiding everyone's affairs.
Ray Bradbury wrote "“There is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people running about with lit matches.”
That includes not just government control freaks, but fucking idiots who apparently think they'll either be immune from the rules or be in charge of them.

I cannot disagree
Let’s review: The president of a PUBLIC UNIVERSITY, an individual in charge of an institution of higher learning, THREATENED an individual for exercising her constitutional and natural right to speech, after he cited the EXACT SAME right as his reason for granting permission to anti-semitic protesters (who’s “from the river to the sea” call advocates for the elimination of a nation-state and its people, btw). In addition, the president never explicitly said what exactly was the reason behind the planned protest except to note that October 7, 2024 was the one year anniversary of October 7, 2023.

The same boxes that the GSA had been holding and ordered Trump’s team to retrieve ended up being the boxes that contained classified markings, raising questions about whether the Biden administration had set up Trump.
From what I've read, it's very questionable- at the least- that 'Special Counsel' Jack Smith can legally hold that position; now all this starts coming out. I'm hoping for having his ass thrown out, and possibly disbarred for the crap he's been doing(I know, but I have a dream).

I wonder how many people are letting the places know "You let this crap continue? Not one more dollar from me and mine!"? Not to mention "If my kid gets hurt because you let this crap get this bad, I'm going to sue your ass off!"

Anti-Israel students at California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt have taken over a campus building in addition to occupying a portion of campus, forcing administrators to close campus for the rest of the semester.
Posts on social media show that the protesters have vandalized a building on campus with anti-Israel messaging. The university estimates damage to property is in the millions.
Over at Columbia, apparently the campus brass decided they'd looked stupid long enough and asked NYPD to clear some of the mess. Which was done.
Well, it's the clowns running these colleges and hiring marxists and other idiots to teach kids to be this way, so hopefully the blowback from this open "Kill the Jews!" from staff and students will wash the bastards out. Probably not, but if there's enough money loss, maybe(that's about all these people will really get upset about).

This must be why Ivy League students, supposedly our “best and brightest,” fail to grasp how the First Amendment actually works. For them, “free speech” means being allowed to occupy/disrupt/scream at whoever, wherever, and whenever. What’s more hilarious, however, is when activists’ tough façades fade away faster than Joe Biden’s train of thought when challenged.
In the near future perhaps their excuses can include screaming “I’M A PROFESSOR!!” when they’re about to be arrested for trespassing, interfering with an arrest, etc.:

The dean of the medical school, Steven Dubinett, announced Friday that his office had formed a task force to review all first-year courses, including "Structural Racism and Health Equity," after the Washington Free Beacon published materials from the mandatory class. But the school isn’t happy about having its hand forced.
In an email to students and faculty, Dubinett implied that the leaks were an "attempt to intimidate" the medical school and hinted that future leakers could face discipline—especially if they record lectures.
"What's done in classes, especially equity classes, STAYS there, you idiots!" Yeah, that's confidence inspiring.
Well, when you have idiots leading a required class that includes ...a guest lecturer, Lisa Gray Garcia, led the required course in chants of "Free, Free Palestine" as well as a prayer to "Mamma Earth," part of which was caught on tape and thrust the course into the national spotlight.

The current state of 'Higher' Education
While Burke advised students in a message sent ahead of the photo shoot to avoid "displaying political messages as they may not represent all students," Yale officials "did nothing" and "still took the photo" after the banner was displayed, according to a Jewish member of the class.
"I was incredibly disappointed that there were over 5 school officials there that did nothing," the student said in an email to Rabbi Shmully Hecht of Shabtai, the Jewish society at Yale. "I felt that the Jewish students were targeted by this poster because there was no protest occurring at the time that was relevant to this banner. It was just about denouncing Israel for all memory and stating that it should not exist."

She did not indicate whether the students who displayed the banner would face disciplinary action. A spokeswoman for Yale University did not respond to a request for comment.

“We want to be absolutely clear that the offensive content of the original post goes against the values and Principles of Community we adhere to at UC Berkeley,” Berkeley spokesperson Roqua Montez told the Daily Cal. “The comment was hurtful and threatening to students - particularly women - in his class and beyond.”

Swain also asked through her attorney for Harvard to clarify whether “the discovery of plagiarism in a dissertation after a Harvard degree has been awarded” would “impact the status or validity of the degree conferred?”
What makes this extra fun is Dr. Swain is a black female whose work was ripped off by another black female, but the one doing the ripping off has the 'proper' political views so Harvard wants to Swain go away.
Which, happily, I don't think is going to happen.
