who has the funds and lawyers to fight them. And they're doing it.
You know, if a private citizen 'misled' a judge like this, he'd probably be in jail.
Fox got hold of the Gunwalker IG report:
Dozens of senior-level U.S. government officials turned a blind eye to public safety as they pursued an ill-conceived and poorly managed investigation into gun trafficking in Mexico, according to a long-awaited inspector general's report on Operation Fast and Furious.
...
The report and accompanying accounts cite a failure in leadership and a lack of accountability and oversight up and down the chain of command at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Justice Department itself and other offices. It says many senior executives knew the U.S. was helping traffic guns to Mexico that killed people but did nothing to stop it.
And the rodeo begins:
Much of the blame in the report is directed at three ATF managers: Phoenix Agent in Charge Bill Newell, Supervisor Dave Voth and Case Agent Hope MacAllister.
Their attorneys claim they've been scapegoated. Debra Roth, an attorney for MacAllister, wrote to Inspector General Michael Horowitz that the report "fails to account for the abdication of oversight, guidance and responsibility by ATF headquarters and Main Department of Justice regarding the implementation of what is in essence a strategy to combat an international criminal enterprise."
Translation: "I'm not taking the blame for this! And I'm not going down alone!"
Over at Sipsey Street had a link to this post on a Woodward article on the economic mess; scary as hell, especially this:
Geithner thought there was one other consideration. He did not mention it to anyone, not even the president, but he had thought about it a great deal. It was not just that Obama faced an economic choice or a political choice. He faced a moral choice.
The president should not put himself in the position of saying unequivocally that he would veto, Geithner concluded, for one simple reason: No one could be sure how to put the American or the global economy back together again. The impact would be calamitous.
"And the people who would bear the pain of that would be the people less prepared," Geithner told others, "less able to absorb that cost. It would be something you could not cure. It is not something you can come back and say, a week later, 'Oh, we fixed it.' It would be indelible, incurable. It would last for generations."
Now, on that Most Brilliantist Secretary of State EVER!!!,
Hunt told Breitbart News that the new State Department Rules of Engagement for Libya, approved and signed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton since the 2011 fall of Khadafi's regime, severely compromised the safety and security of murdered Ambassador Stevens and all American diplomatic staff in Libya.
He also stated that the decision not to staff Benghazi with Marines was made by Secretary of State Clinton when she attached her signature to the State Department Rules of Engagement for Libya document. Breitbart News has subsequently learned that under those rules of engagement, Secretary Clinton prohibited Marines from providing security at any American diplomatic installation in Libya.
AND they hired locals as security guards, but would not allow them to have ammunition...
From Mark Steyn on our President, brilliant SecState and their minions:
But no, that would be an utterly fantastical America. In the real America, the president is too busy to attend the security briefing on the morning after a national debacle, but he does have time to do Letterman and appear on a hip-hop radio show hosted by "The Pimp With A Limp." In the real State Department, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo is guarded by Marines with no ammunition, but they do enjoy the soft-power muscle of a Foreign Service officer, one Lloyd Schwartz, tweeting frenziedly into cyberspace (including a whole chain directed at my own Twitter handle, for some reason) about how America deplores insensitive people who are so insensitively insensitive that they don't respectfully respect all religions equally respectfully and sensitively, even as the raging mob is pouring through the gates.

Frikkin' murdering neolithic goatherds with AKs
and RPGs...
A Libyan man explains that the bloodstains on the column are from one the American staff members who grabbed the edge of the column while he was evacuated, after an attack that killed four Americans on September 11th.
'evacuated', that's a nice word, isn't it?
Lots of pictures here.
Looks like they're trying to/are burning our embassy in Tunisia.
Closer to home, some of the consequences of Obamacare.
Can we now just say the EPA is part of the enemy?
And, on the EPA,
Under the Clean Air Act, the EPA must grant waivers to approve new fuel blends. After requests from 54 ethanol manufacturers, the EPA decided to authorize waivers for fuels blends of up to 15 percent ethanol, according to the EPA.
Screw the problems for peoples' vehicles, got to keep the ethanol lobby happy, and so forth.

Hey, who's got time for intelligence briefings
when there's fundraising to be done, and you think you're too smart to need input from anyone else?
The killings of the US ambassador to Libya and three of his staff were likely to have been the result of a serious and continuing security breach, The Independent can reveal.
American officials believe the attack was planned, but Chris Stevens had been back in the country only a short while and the details of his visit to Benghazi, where he and his staff died, were meant to be confidential.
The US administration is now facing a crisis in Libya. Sensitive documents have gone missing from the consulate in Benghazi and the supposedly secret location of the "safe house" in the city, where the staff had retreated, came under sustained mortar attack. Other such refuges across the country are no longer deemed "safe".
And, just to make it even more fun,
According to senior diplomatic sources, the US State Department had credible information 48 hours before mobs charged the consulate in Benghazi, and the embassy in Cairo, that American missions may be targeted, but no warnings were given for diplomats to go on high alert and "lockdown", under which movement is severely restricted.
That dirtbag Bernanke has decided that my savings continuing to shrink for another couple of years is a Good Thing, as it means he's Doing Something. I would like to ask him if having a stake shoving slowly up his ass for the next couple of years would also be Good, as it would mean we're Doing Something?
A top official at a liberal super PAC with the goal of eradicating tea partiers from Congress is telling activists that it’s more effective to label Republicans as racists than criticize their policies.

The word verification was such a pain for some I took it off,
and I'd had no bloody idea how much spam comes knocking at the door.
If you make a comment and don't see it, give me a while; it may have gone to that folder, and I'll have to separate it from the actual crap.

Speaking of "You cannot expect them to act like civilized people",
this about covers it:
“[H]urting the feelings of one and a half billion Muslims cannot be tolerated, and the people’s anger and fury for their faith is invariably predictable, often unstoppable,” it said, calling for “assaults on the sanctities of all heavenly religions” to be criminalized.
“Otherwise, such acts will continue to cause devout Muslims across the world to suspect and even loathe the West, especially the USA, for allowing their citizens to violate the sanctity of what they hold dear and holy. Hence, we demand that all those involved in such crimes be urgently brought to trial.”
This is coming from people who call for the murder of all Jews, and all Christians to either convert or die; Buddhists and pagans and whatever, you're in the 'gas chamber' category along with the Jews. Them call you names and calling for your death? That's fine, that's as it should be; but don't you DARE hurt THEIR feelings!

Consequences of elections, indeed:
U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo.
Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.”
Looks like my earlier thought was right.
I HATE being right about shit like this

A little Kipling does seem appropriate right now
There's a widow in sleepy Chester
Who weeps for her only son;
There's a grave on the Pabeng River,
A grave that the Burmans shun,
And there's Subadar Prag Tewarri
Who tells how the work was done.
A Snider squibbed in the jungle,
Somebody laughed and fled,
And the men of the First Shikaris
Picked up their Subaltern dead,
With a big blue mark in his forehead
And the back blown out of his head.
Subadar Prag Tewarri,
Jemadar Hira Lal,
Took command of the party,
Twenty rifles in all,
Marched them down to the river
As the day was beginning to fall.
They buried the boy by the river,
A blanket over his face--
They wept for their dead Lieutenant,
The men of an alien race--
They made a samadh in his honor,
A mark for his resting-place.
For they swore by the Holy Water,
They swore by the salt they ate,
That the soul of Lieutenant Eshmitt Sahib
Should go to his God in state;
With fifty file of Burman
To open him Heaven's gate.
The men of the First Shikaris
Marched till the break of day,
Till they came to the rebel village,
The village of Pabengmay--
A jingal covered the clearing,
Calthrops hampered the way.
Subadar Prag Tewarri,
Bidding them load with ball,
Halted a dozen rifles
Under the village wall;
Sent out a flanking-party
With Jemadar Hira Lal.
The men of the First Shikaris
Shouted and smote and slew,
Turning the grinning jingal
On to the howling crew.
The Jemadar's flanking-party
Butchered the folk who flew.
Long was the morn of slaughter,
Long was the list of slain,
Five score heads were taken,
Five score heads and twain;
And the men of the First Shikaris
Went back to their grave again,
Each man bearing a basket
Red as his palms that day,
Red as the blazing village--
The village of Pabengmay,
And the "drip-drip-drip" from the baskets
Reddened the grass by the way.
They made a pile of their trophies
High as a tall man's chin,
Head upon head distorted,
Set in a sightless grin,
Anger and pain and terror
Stamped on the smoke-scorched skin.
Subadar Prag Tewarri
Put the head of the Boh
On the top of the mound of triumph,
The head of his son below,
With the sword and the peacock-banner
That the world might behold and know.
Thus the samadh was perfect,
Thus was the lesson plain
Of the wrath of the First Shikaris--
The price of a white man slain;
And the men of the First Shikaris
Went back into camp again.
Then a silence came to the river,
A hush fell over the shore,
And Bohs that were brave departed,
And Sniders squibbed no more;
For the Burmans said
That a kullah's head
Must be paid for with heads five score.

The Grave of the Hundred Head
And the legacy of Jimmy Carter II, also known as the Lightbringer,
continues to build:
Chanting “death to America,” hundreds of protesters angered by an anti-Islam film stormed the U.S. Embassy compound in Yemen’s capital and burned the American flag on Thursday, the latest in a series of attacks on American diplomatic missions in the Middle East.
So far, so bad: another embassy breached, another American flag destroyed. I'm sure we'll hear another speech along the lines of "We will work with the government to find the guilty"; slight problem:
The protesters breached the usually tight security around the embassy and reached the compound grounds but did not enter the main building housing the offices.
Once again, be interesting to see if the local .gov finds the 'guilty', since the local .gov was apparently assisting the bastards in attacking the embassy.
I also find myself wondering: is this standard, or did someone give orders that 'the Marine guards are not to unnecessarily harm the protestors' or something else along those lines?
Obama won't meet with Netanyahu, but WILL meet with the Muslim Brotherhood president of Egypt. Well, to be fair, he's a lot more comfortable meeting with someone else who doesn't like this country.
It remains unclear how or why the Democratic Party used what’s believed to be images of the Russian Black Sea Fleet at their convention.
I can make a couple of guesses... The last panel seems to cover it nicely:

Independent federal legal officials have concluded that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius violated federal law by conducting political activity “in an official capacity,” according to a statement released on Wednesday.
Hey, Holder's still getting away with smuggling guns and piles of dead bodies, why would she worry about this?
I've got a bad taste in my mouth, and it's too early to start drinking. Bleargh.

To the government of Egypt:
Fuck you, you bloody-handed savage.
… Which brings us to the second part of Kandil’s statement: “We ask the American government to take a firm position toward this film’s producers within the framework of international charters that criminalize acts that stir strife on the basis of race, color or religion.” Translation: We’re not holding the American government responsible … yet — but if it fails to punish the filmmakers, then all that “regrettable” stuff might not be so regrettable.
The real problem? We've got a bunch of leftist America-haters and "Let's plead guilty and give them what they want" appeasers who'd love to have a law to use to punish who they choose; all for the good of humanity, of course.

Went to Penn Square Mall, and found 'no firearms' signs (Updated)
on the doors. I haven't been there in a while, so I don't know how long they've been up.
So I just e-mailed the management:
I went to Penn Square for the first time in a while, and noticed that you have posted 'no firearms' signs on the doors.
I am curious as to why you have decided that people with concealed carry permits are not welcome in your mall, or are not trusted to carry their sidearm there.
We'll see if they reply, and what they say
Update: Noticed something in my spam folder, and found this:
DELIVERY FAILURE: User blanddec (blanddec@simon.com) not listed in Domino Directory
That's from using the form for 'contact us' for Penn Square. Tried it again, same thing.
So looked at the base site, which is for the Simon Property Group, Inc., and used their 'contact' form to ask the question. And quickly received a automated "We got it" response. So, we'll see what answer comes back.

Considering the number of MAIG members arrested
on nasty charges, couldn't it be said that Bloomberg is in charge of a criminal enterprise?

'Career civil servants are in charge' my ass.
PJ Media has learned that a team of career lawyers, expert analysts, and supervisors in the Justice Department Voting Section recommended that South Carolina’s photo voter identification law be precleared under the Voting Rights Act as non-discriminatory. Presidential appointees in the Justice Department then disregarded the career recommendation and an objection followed, blocking South Carolina’s voter ID law.
So one of the founders of Greenpeace says their actions amount to crimes against humanity; tells you something about what it's become.
Nixon said something like 'there's a belief that if the President does it, it's legal' and caught hell for it. From our Defense Secretary:
O’Donnell then asked Panetta a direct question: What’s the difference between what the SEAL did and the leaks that have come from the administration to journalists and filmmakers? Panetta spun: “There’s a fundamental difference. The people that presented some of the details of the operations were authorized to do that by the president of the United States, who has that authority to do that, and inform the American people as to what happened. In this case, that was not the case. And that’s the difference.”
This is a scary-as-hell 'What could happen'; bleep, I hope he's wrong.
Oh, and the 'rebels' are dragging the ambassadors' dead body around. Just like the bastards in Mogadishu and Haditha. How's that Arab Spring working out, Mr. Obama?

And our President says "I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi," etc. I'm sure that'll scare them.

And, it should be noted, Obama really is Jimmy Carter II, embassy attacks and all. Hey, Mr. President, how's that Arab Spring, and our 'secular friends' of the Muslim Brotherhood working out?

About the fourth or fifth time some talking head shakily spoke of 'terror striking into the heartland' I found myself on my feet yelling "What about the PISSED-OFF struck into the heartland, you asshole?"
I still haven't heard any answer to that from the talking heads.
'Bout all I have to say right now.

The Southern Poverty Lie Center strikes again
The media has done its best to ignore the Occupy terrorists, but have now confessed. Perhaps drawing inspiration from Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who can lie with an utterly straight face about reality (what she said on tape about the Israeli ambassador, what happened on the floor of the DNC when the words Jerusalem and God were excised and then restored to the platform), the Southern Poverty Law Center has stepped in to solve the problem for the left. Re-define the Occupy movement as "radical right."

No, I didn't get that ammo loaded; I did get a bunch of pruning done, and the small stuff run through the chipper. And I'm still tired. 'Night, all
This kind of thing does not help with that 'trained professionals'

CT has their first green lasers out
for a few pistols.
There's a note in there that Crimson Trace works with top holster manufacturers to create holster solutions for all Laserguard equipped firearms. Michael had mentioned that he contacted CT about the Lightguard, "I have people asking for holsters for 'x' pistol with it, can I get one so I can make them?" and they sent him one; seems they really mean that 'working with them' bit.
This Wednesday, three of the five Occupy activists arrested for attempting to blow up a commuter bridge in Ohio in May pled guilty to use of a weapon of mass destruction, attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, and attempted use of an explosive device to destroy property used in interstate commerce..
They were planning bombings, etc., got it; just when & why did the .gov start calling what used to be 'bombing' or 'destruction of property' a "Weapon of Mass Destruction' charge? Is a real WMD(chemical, bio or nuclear) now a 'Weapon of REAL Mass Destruction' or something?
I don't care what you saw on Animal Planet or Disney, STOP ANNOYING THE WILD ANIMALS!
These people are friggin' nuts...
And that's all I've got this morning. I have trucks to clean, some yard work to do, and some ammo to put together later if time allows.

Dump the TSA. Every vindictive, nasty little one of them
The audio and video in the clip above is scratchy, but the woman is heard saying, “Let me get this straight, this is retaliatory for my attitude, this is not making the airways safer it’s retaliatory.”
“It pretty much definitely is,” the TSA screener responds.
...
As Consumer Traveler’s Charlie Leocha reported last month, “When meeting with privacy officials at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and TSA later that month, I was told unofficially that there were two standards of pat-downs. One for the normal situation where passengers are going through metal detectors and a different pat-down for those who refuse to go through the whole-body scanners.”
“With this latest announcement, TSA admits that it has been clandestinely punishing passengers for refusing to go through the invasive whole-body scans with an even more intrusive aggressive pat-down and that soon those more invasive pat-down will creep from airport to airport,” adds Leocha.

I keep hearing bitching that Romney didn't say he'll make 'investments' in alternative energy sources; they don't seem to consider that he wants to prevent people like this from cashing in some more.
And, by the way, what's this belief that if the .gov isn't handing lots of OPM to someone, it means there's no research going on?
More theft under color of law.
One of the suspects in Brian Terrys' murder has been caught in Mexico. Cummings tries to claim some credit, and the IG is making excuses about his report.
And one more fine example of a sorry excuse for a cop, and a sorry excuse for a prosecutor, and why these people should be personally responsible for for any fines and awards. Not to mention going to jail for perjury and, in the case of the officer, assault.

The first kilted pic
Which is about as unstylish as you can get. However, it involvesKilt and
Boomstick
so who cares?
Spent the day with Jennifer, Evyl and their son(whose blog I can't remember the name of)Update: it's Intelligent Trousers making noises and putting holes in things. In the above case, with the K38. Some more pictures to follow tomorrow; right now I'm suffering from lack of time and lack of interest(a full belly of very good Mexican food will do that to you).
Added: this was the first time I've been able to shoot any rifle at a measured distance beyond 100 yards; in this case the M1 Garand with the Ultimak mount and a scope, tried out at 250 yards. Considering I was using Korean PS ball, I'm happy with the result(no pictures of that); but it does call for more shooting(Yay!).

A good piece from Penn Jillette
on not being afraid to say "I don't know." Including this lovely bit:
It's amazing to me how many people think that voting to have the government give poor people money is compassion. Helping poor and suffering people is compassion. Voting for our government to use guns to give money to help poor and suffering people is immoral self-righteous bullying laziness.
People need to be fed, medicated, educated, clothed, and sheltered, and if we're compassionate we'll help them, but you get no moral credit for forcing other people to do what you think is right. There is great joy in helping people, but no joy in doing it at gunpoint.
That's one hell of a wedding present. I'd read somewhere that Jolie likes to shoot, don't know of Pitt had to make himself, or if he's ok on firearms.
And in unrelated news, we had a front come through this afternoon; went from 102 to 86 in maybe an hour. And a little bit ago it RAINED! Not much, but it was rain! And it's now 65 out there; should be nice weather for tomorrow.

'Retaliation' and 'ethical violations' is a nice way to put what ATF has been doing
Add this to what else is known, if there are not indictments and actual firings, people need to be thrown out of those taxpayer-supplied offices. Preferably through the windows.
And more calls for Holder to resign. I don't want the arrogant, corrupt bastard to; I want him to stay there and EVERYTHING be dragged out. And, preferably, the criminal charges against him be filed.

A quote from Mike Rowe*
Today, we can see the consequences of this disconnect in any number of areas, but none is more obvious than the growing skills gap. Even as unemployment remains sky high, a whole category of vital occupations has fallen out of favor, and companies struggle to find workers with the necessary skills. The causes seem clear. We have embraced a ridiculously narrow view of education. Any kind of training or study that does not come with a four-year degree is now deemed “alternative.” Many viable careers once aspired to are now seen as “vocational consolation prizes,” and many of the jobs this current administration has tried to “create” over the last four years are the same jobs that parents and teachers actively discourage kids from pursuing. (I always thought there something ill-fated about the promise of three million “shovel ready jobs” made to a society that no longer encourages people to pick up a shovel.)
*Yeah, I'm mentioning him a lot lately; he's saying and doing some damn good things.

Warren REALLY doesn't want to talk to actual Indians about this,
does she?
For reasons noted before, I wasn't too bothered about the 'not on the roll' stuff; but the way she's acted indicates she's truly full of crap and doesn't want to deal with it.

Just because I like them
In the next installment of "Due process? We don't care,"
we have (who else?) BATFEIEIO:
In a final rule published last week, the Justice Department granted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) authority to “seize and administratively forfeit property involved in controlled-substance abuses.” That means government can grab firearms and other property from someone who has never been convicted or even charged with any crime.
...
The rule extending civil-forfeiture power to the ATF recognizes this dynamic, stating with perhaps unconscious cynicism that an uncontested civil forfeiture “can be perfected for minimal cost” compared to the “hundreds or thousands of dollars” and “years” needed for judicial forfeiture. Nowhere is there any recognition of the burden placed on innocent citizens stripped of their property, or of the erosion of their civil liberties. In fact, the rule argues that, because in the past the ATF could turn over requests for civil forfeiture to the Drug Enforcement Administration, there has been no change in “individual rights.”
Instead of expanding the profit motive in policing, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. should be working to eliminate it.

Does calling Barney Frank part of what he is
make them self-hating or something? Personally, I'd say it makes them honest.
“As far as Log Cabin Republicans are concerned, it’s a badge of honor to be attacked by a partisan hack like Barney Frank,” said Log Cabin Republicans Executive Director R. Clarke Cooper. “We understand that Barney has earned his protected place within the Democrat Party by being their attack dog on gay rights issues, demonizing Republicans and undermining efforts at bipartisanship that would actually improve LGBT Americans lives. We expect this kind of bile from Barney, especially when it plays into the Obama campaign’s efforts to divide, distract and deceive the American people.”
They forgot to mention vindictive, vicious, petty, and corrupt.

Kilted to Kick Cancer is running,
what that guy in the PROM leading the way. Or showing the way. Or something.
I'll have to see if I can get someone to take some pictures for me; should I try for the formal look, or the casual Utilikilt?
By the way, according to their site my 5.11 Tactical Kilt should be shipping in a couple of days!

I now like Mike Rowe even more:
But the Skills Gap proves that we need something else too. We need people who see opportunity where opportunity exists. We need enthusiasm for careers that have been overlooked and underappreciated by society at large. We need to have a really big national conversation about what we value in the workforce, and if I can be of help to you in that regard, I am at your service – assuming of course, you find yourself in a new address early next year.
Hell yeah.
I just heard audio of the Democrats 'voting' to add these references to their platform; can you say 'The Fix Was In'?
I knew you could.
Also from Ace, does it seem that lately some of these people are more willing to stand in front of a camera a lie about what they've said? Desperation, stupid or hoping the media will cover for them?
I think the innertubes giving more and more people the chance to SEE these people lie, and the proof they're lying, is giving the major media less wiggle room on this crap.
Well, hell, it's only more intimidation; Holder's DoJ can't spend ALL its time trying to cover-up the gun smuggling...

100 miles x 102F =
damn thirsty when I stopped.
More bloggage tomorrow; I'm tired and looking forward to shower and whiskey. In that order.

Getting away from some traffic on the highway the other day,
I discovered a bad thing about a bike like the VFR: it makes 100 seem like not that fast, yet it's a neighborhood you'd like to spend more time in...

About that professor pushing to have Obama organizers invited
into classrooms, the university realized the problem:
University legal counsel has determined that we must make absolutely certain that Ohio State does not engage in partisan political activities. This includes inviting political organizers into our classrooms. Simply put, partisan political discussions may not be sponsored by university employees on the Ohio State campus. I urge you to refer to the guidelines regarding political activity by employees of the university.
Good on the University for stomping on this: crap on the professors and teachers who thought using their authority and classrooms for political organizing was a good idea.

So the Democrat Platform calls for banning guns,
but being the chickenshits they are they refer to it as 'reasonable regulation'. And we all know where that leads...
I'm left holding crumbs of what was once a large and satisfying cake, and you're standing there with most of MY CAKE, making anime eyes and whining about being "reasonable", and wondering "why we won't compromise".

It should be noted that riding in ~100 degree temps
isn't bad if you drink enough; it's when you have to stop and sit for a few minutes that it really sucks.
To the girl at the library in the skirt
If you're going to wear one that short, you'd better be comfortable in it; that you kept tugging at it says you're not. It doesn't make it any longer, and it draws attention.
Just what a carbon tax would amount to:
broke people and a further trashed economy.
"...We’ll also need substantial additional revenue, most of which could be generated by a carbon tax.”
Mr. Frank, this would screw things so badly there's not enough money in the freaking WORLD to 'pay off the deficit' that would result from this idiot idea of yours.
Screw you. You want to pay a carbon tax, write a check; leave the rest of us alone.

Do these idiots not know ANYTHING
of which they speak?
New York Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, a Democrat and the chief sponsor of the microstamping legislation on semiautomatic pistols that was last considered by the state’s full Senate in 2010, said she believes Remington’s vow is merely a threat.
“Their main product isn’t even semiautomatic guns; the main thrust of what they do are long guns and military contracts,” Schimel told FoxNews.com. “As a former businessman, it would be foolish for them to leave the New York market. They are getting a lot of money from the state.”
Really? All those semi-auto shotguns and rifles people buy with 'Remington' marked on them are actually made by someone else? Schimel, do you not understand that 'long guns' CAN BE SEMI-AUTO FIREARMS? Or do you think that somehow means 'pistols only'?
Oh, wait, they make those 1911A1 pistols, too... Sell a lot from what I've read.
'Foolish' would be staying in a state where the politicians want to put them out of business, dumbass; despite what you think, having a New York address doesn't mean much in comparison to that.

Damndest thing I've ever had a flat from
Took the OKCPV* to the library, started home and noticed the ride seemed a bit spongy; sure as hell, the rear was almost flat. So walked it home, popped the tire & tube off and found two tiny holes maybe 3/8" apart. Made a patch and put the rubber cement on and wondered what had caused them, no sign of anything from the outside; so ran my fingers along the inside and found them barely sticking out(couldn't see a thing from the outside). Took some fine-nose pliers to get hold of them, and looked like two pieces of staple. Not big roofing staples, regular 'attach papers' type. Somehow one hit the tire at just the right angle to push in, and everything but the legs either broke off or wore off and the legs worked their way in.
That trip coming took a lot longer and hotter than going.

Heart, now
and thenYeah, their politics kind of suck(Seattle rock band, whoda thought?), but damn, the music they made!
And back when they first came out, and I first heard of them, for the most part I wasn't exactly politically worried about things, 2nd Amendment aside. So if Ann Wilson* had appeared before me and said "I want you! But you should know that someday I'll support the socialists" it would've given me pause for, oh, two or three seconds.
Maybe.
Oh yeah, I had- well, saying "I had a thing for her" would be such an epic of understatement that it would render The Odyssey a piece of fan fiction in comparison.
First of their songs I heard:
And one from a few years later
*No, nothing wrong with Nancy; I just had that thing more for Ann.
Two things about the accusation against Napolitanos' flunky:
First, I have a hard time seeing ICE's special agent in charge in New York making such charges without a way to back them up. Especially it being a male accusing females of sexual misconduct on the job.
Second, The Justice Department is seeking to dismiss Hayes' lawsuit on the basis that he did not state a claim for retaliation. Does anyone have any real doubt that if a female SAIC made such a charge against males that this DoJ would not be playing such a game?
Oh, and I think people aren't buying the spin on the 'You didn't build that' statement.

Yeah, the NYPD shoot training really is that bad
Uncle found this; kind of amazing the number of times 'unscored' and 'not scored' is there(ANY is too many). And this:
Requalification: This included firing 50 rounds at stationary targets at 7-, 15-, and 25-yard distances. A minimum of 39 hits is required to qualify.
Not "A score of -", or "hits in vital/high-score areas", just 39 hits out of 50 on stationary targets with you standing still, yet...
Fear not, they're building a real tactical pistol range; however,
This is surely an improvement over shooting at static targets, but it is not scored, and, because of the scale of operations with so many officers having to requalify twice a year, we are not confident that it will be a much more meaningful training experience than officers currently receive with static targets. For example, without scoring the tactical pistol course, how can the Firearms and Tactics Section evaluate its effectiveness?
Answer: they really can't.
Heck, the civilian who goes to the range once every few months and puts a box or two of ammo through their pistol, along with maybe a little dry fire at home, is doing WAY more than NYPD.
By that standard I'm a frikkin' EXPERT, I am!
And remember, this is from one of the 'most professional, best-trained LE organizations in the country.' No wonder they've had those cases of shooting to slide lock and doing it again, they have no damned idea what they're really doing.*
*A little much? I don't really think so; for instance, OHP was doing better training than this forty years ago.

If you've never read Correia's opinion on the classics,
here's a taste:
The one good thing about being forced to read The Great Gatsby was that I discovered Robert E. Howard and H.P. Lovecraft afterwards because I figured that not everybody from that time frame could have been that incredibly annoying.
My sophomore English teacher dismissed those works as “pulp” not “literature”. Really? Because who has influenced more people in succeeding generations? Cthulu or Gatsby? My money is on the big squid.

And I'm sure the base commander caught hell for not assuring applause
and cheers. Let's see,
You condemned Iraq as a sideshow, and then tried to claim credit for winning.
You tried to force the troops to buy private insurance to cover battlefield injuries.
You're negotiating WITH THE FRIGGIN' ENEMY in A'stan to hand the place back to them.
You don't want to actually call some terrorists what they are because it might upset someone.
You want to chop the forces to pieces so you can spend the money on buying votes.
And you, Mr. President, expect these troops to cheer and applaud you? Really?*
On that 'negotiating with the enemy' this from the linked article:
...hopes that the autumn end of this year’s Afghan fighting season will bring the Taliban back to the negotiating table after the suspension of talks last March;...
Translation: they want to let the bastards 'come back to the table' during the winter, which is nothing more than giving them time to rearm and recruit and plan; personally I think that counts as giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
Without going into details, talked to someone a while back about the current budget mess(How 'bout that, Mr. President of the Senate who won't pass any budget, you bastard?) and from what was said, if sequestration happens, they(military) were told that they could say goodbye to any new equipment for about two years(probably minimum), and the forces would be given even bigger personnel cuts. The troops are discouraged and pissed off, the Army's own poll says they're having trouble retaining good leaders and the PC idiocy is hurting the force... and they know damn good and well that when something blows up somewhere, the same people who want to chop numbers/weapons/equipment will- without a second thought or giving a damn about what those things mean- send them off to take care of it. And blame them for everything that goes wrong.
*Yes, I know, considering his ego he probably thinks they'd have to. Or be required to so as to not upset him.

The new edition at Chateau Noisemaker has been tried out,
and it'll fit in nicely:
a Dillon 450 press. Picked it up at the fun show last weekend from a man who'd just bought a 550 and needed the space. Used, and cared for; everything's there, and works nice & smooth. I'll need to start collecting some conversions, and then it'll speed up a lot of loading.
Just in case anyone's wondering, that's a 1/4" steel plate bolted on top of the desk(top reinforced with a brace below). I marked the mounting holes, then drilled and tapped; the mounting bolts thread into the plate instead of going through. Same way I've been using the Square Deal B and the single-stage press; works nicely for mounting the powder measure, too. Having tried this out, I may have to make new holes a little more to the left, but a little rearranging of scale location may take care of it.

In fancy words, "Gunwalking? Oh yes,
we did that."

Not Gunwalker related, but the Dutchman has some words on the subject of the CSGV & Co. calling us 'insurrectionists'(from here down is his post):
And, last(for now), some words to the UN that they probably wondered what the hell to do about:
BELLEVUE, WA - The Second Amendment Foundation today reminded the United Nations that "if women have the right to be protected against violence, then they have the right to protect themselves against violence."
So spoke SAF's Director of Operations Julianne Versnel, whose remarks to the U.N. Programme of Action conference were unlike anything many delegates had ever heard before(you think maybe?). The conference is seen as the first step toward rekindling discussions about an on-going process to continue development of a small arms and light weapons treaty, which earlier this summer collapsed when several nations opposed it.
Noting that she had reviewed what has already been written and said about the violence against women as it relates to the Programme of Action, Versnel emphasized that, "I am struck by what is not said."
"If there is a basic sanctity of a woman's person," she observed, "if there is a right to not be a victim of sexual or personal violence, then that right involves the right to defend one's self."
Versnel stressed that any new global gun control initiatives must "do nothing to disarm women who legitimately and rightfully want to defend themselves."
Oh yeah, that must've put a weasel in the henhouse: the UN flat hates the idea of the commoners having arms, but they also want to play "We are the Friend of Woman"; how to reconcile "You have no right to use arms for any reason including self-defense" with that?
"The drive for human rights is a force throughout the world," Versnel stated, "and especially here at the U.N. A woman's right to be free from violence is a fundamental human right. That fundamental right is to defend one's self. The report of this conference should state that without reservation."
Fat effing chance. If women have not only the right of self-defense, but the right to the means to do it, why, they don't need the UN to 'protect' them!

Not Gunwalker related, but the Dutchman has some words on the subject of the CSGV & Co. calling us 'insurrectionists'(from here down is his post):
We are indebted to Robert Farago for the pointing out this tweet from the "Coalition to Stop Gun Violence."
"Smoke out the insurrectionists who dominate the pro-gun movement. And call them what they are: Traitors who r preparing 4 war w/ our gov't."
Of course, I figure prominently in the CSGV list of "insurrectionists" and "traitors."
They really do believe, and have enunciated their beliefs many times, that the federal government should retain a monopoly of violence , thus contradicting the Founders' original intent of the Second Amendment.
Souvenir photo of a German Einsatzgruppen advocate of a government monopoly of violence. The hand-written note on the back of the photo says, "Ukraine 1942, Jewish Aktion, Ivangorod".
As Kurt Hofmann has written, "Forget 'gun control'; CSGV represents 'genocide enablement lobby'." And Kurt has their own words to back it up:
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) most starkly exemplifies this way of thinking, with their insistence on a "government monopoly on force," which executive director Josh Horwitz claims is "the fundamental organizing principle of any political entity, including the United States." In support of that assertion, Horwitz cites Max Weber, whose Article 48 was absolutely indispensable in Hitler's rise to power. Interesting choice of influences, CSGV.Blogger Miguel, of Gun Free Zone, recently caught CSGV taking their twisted philosophy to its logical extreme, and tracked this Twitter exchange, in which gun rights advocate LC Scotty asked CSGV if rounding up a minority group for the concentration camps would not justify armed resistance:So govt rounding up citizens based on relig/ethnic id would not warrant armd resistance if courts bless as constitutionalCSGV's astounding response:Correct. As long as the Const. is functioning as our system of gov't, there are peaceful methods for redress.Keep in mind, by the way, that CSGV would have us take the government's word on whether or not it was complying with the Constitution. In other words, according to CSGV, there can never be any justification for armed resistance, as long as the government makes a token effort to toss a flimsy veneer of Constitutional legitimacy over its excesses.
So these are the people who call US "traitors" to the Constitution. They're from another country, all right -- I just can't figure out if it's Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia.
End of the his post; he do have a way with words, do he not?More advocates of a government monopoly of violence. Warsaw Ghetto, 1943.
And, last(for now), some words to the UN that they probably wondered what the hell to do about:

The Navy's possibly biggest threat in the Persian Gulf
has been both missiles and swarming speedboats; some things have been developed that would really help with the boat threat, but
As always, though, money is an issue. Two JLENS systems have been built, but it is not certain that production will go ahead as originally planned. Meanwhile a Senate panel has recommended slowing production of the SDB II as Congress tries to slash the budget.
I said somewhere that if the Navy was gaming this threat, I hoped they were being honest as I really don't want another Battle of Savo Island; if there's a replay of it because Congress was too busy chopping defense because it's easier than doing other things... well, tar & feathers would have to give way to ropes and lampposts.

Yesterday it was the garage: today
it is the shed. Which is about halfway done, the rest will be done later in the day when it cools a bit. In the meantime,
Yahoo fired a journalist who made a really disgusting comment on a hot mike.
"They're not concerned at all. They're happy to have a party with black people drowning," Chalian said over a break during the ABC News/Yahoo News webcast, in reference to the fact that the GOP convention in Tampa is taking place as Hurricane Isaac makes landfall on the north Gulf coast.
Apparently Obama campaigning and fundraising at the same time doesn't bother him.
In a followon to the NYPD shooting the other day, somebody had a link to this; if the information presented is correct, it's- well, 'terrifying' comes to mind. Part of it:
•The qualifications are HORRIBLE mad get dumbed down every year.
•The NYPD offers once a month training for members to use, on their own time. However, all that is done during these sessions are the same basic dumbed down qualification exercises. You will only receive real help if you outright fail. Missed 12 out of fifty @ 7 yards? GOOD ENOUGH!
•Our tactical training is a joke and maybe ten people in a department of 34K have had Active Shooter training (I'm not exaggerating).
Insty linked to this:
It turned out waiting periods didn't matter. They didn't work, had no impact on crime, they were a distraction. They were just an attack that could be made on guns, the flavor of the day, a reflection of what the public out here perceives as media hatred for guns. Like a reported shooting... from two thousand miles away.
...
Now I find you urging support to ban gear, like magazine size, ammunition types and even brands, like AR-15 and Glock. This is just as bogus as the olden waiting-period demands, and you are just as mystified at the adamantine resistance again. This is why it is time for gun-control counseling.
The other day someone basically said 'academics do not use their authority to push political views.' He hadn't heard about this, I guess(or Obama's terrorist neighbor & friend, or- well, you know):
...A senior English professor invited his colleagues to open their classrooms in the weeks ahead to organizers in the Obama campaign. They would first encourage students to register to vote and then, if the instructors were willing, encourage students to volunteer for the Obama campaign.
And now I shall soak up some tea and prepare for finishing the shed

The Gun is Civilization
Every so often I remember this piece; it's something that needs to go around every once in a while.
The Gun is Civilization by The Munchkin Wrangler
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it.
In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.
When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force.
The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.
There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat–it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed.
People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly.
Then there’s the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser. People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don’t constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level.
The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable.
When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation… and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Screw the TSA; it should be dumped
Any bunch of clowns who use their power to try to intimidate people into being good little sheep should be fired.
Well, this would explain a number of people I've known
Researchers found persistent users of the drug, who started smoking it at school, had lower IQ scores as adults.
They were also significantly more likely to have attention and memory problems in later life, than their peers who abstained.

Seems some actual indigenous people are getting upset
with islam being pushed.
Native Americans are very angry to learn that Muslims in the United States of America are being touted as “indigenous”, a complete falsehood. The fact is, American Indians are the indigenous people of North America, as Hawai’ians are to Hawai’i and the Aborigine to Australia. Organizations like BIMA marginalize native Americans in favor of Muslims, and Indians are not pleased. Speaking with many tribal friends and associates here in northeast Oklahoma, it is clear that the support Obama received from native American Democrats in 2008 is waning. They can see that the hope and change Obama promised four years ago was not what anyone expected. Especially not these people, with their deep Christian beliefs and rolls filled with veterans of foreign wars.

Is it something about New Orleans?
And if it is, should we just build the refineries and whatnot somewhere that it doesn't affect the morons running the city?
Yep; at least one of the NYEffinPD cops can't shoot
for shit under stress, it follows an old tradition, and-sure enough- cops who can't shoot for shit means we need(say it in chorus!) MORE GUN CONTROL LAWS!!!
It's an ongoing complaint by gunnies that so many cops are lousy shots, and I think Uncle hits a big part of it: in so many places they've tried so hard to destroy the gun culture, and- to a large extent- succeeded, especially among those who really SHOULD be part of said culture. When you've got cops who only shoot when required to, and only care about managing to qualify, you get people who can't shoot well. And, as the saying goes, under heavy stress you don't rise to the occasion, you fall to your level of training. So if your level of training is "I have to shoot twice a year to qualify"...
Guy Dad used to work with was the poster boy for this. Very nice guy, knew the law, knew his job, but didn't care for shooting, so he didn't. My first real "I don't believe this!" on cops and guns was when he brought his shotgun over for help: they'd qualified about two months before, and there was an inspection coming up, and he could manage to clean his revolver but couldn't remember how to break down the scattergun, and didn't even have a rod for cleaning the bore. So that powder and plastic fouling(lots of buckshot and slugs) had been sitting there solidifying its position for two freakin' months. And would have been there longer if not for the inspection.
See, the cops I was around as I grew up were either country boys or city boys who liked to shoot and/or hunt; they actually practiced on their own when they could, and knew how to take care of their weapons. So when I started meeting those who not only didn't like to shoot, but didn't bother, even though a lot of them were people who were often a looong way from help if things went south... well, it was a shock. And there are a lot more of them than there used to be.

Why does this not surprise me about the Occupy clowns
& Co.?
Now they had meetings for a long time before and what they ultimately decided to do—and it was folks like Lisa Fithian leading the training, and I know because I was in the training…undercover —but what they did is they mapped out the city, maps with corporate targets, business leaders home addresses, and Republican delegates home addresses, and also where the hotels were the delegates were going to be staying in. And they handed out these maps and then they showed people videos of Molotov cocktails and various other criminal behavior and asked everyone to be creative and feel free to use what they called a diversity of tactics and to make sure the Republican National Convention can’t occur, you know, can’t happen.
In a later planning session they mapped out the area around the convention center; they divided it into several sections. Then each group of anarchists of their RNC Welcoming Committee—which we now call Occupy—each group was responsible for a different sector.
...
Now, Lisa Fithian and the organizers, they realized that the police were not going to allow a group to set up and do that, allow the yellow group to do that. So they figured they could use the green group, the green group being the mainstream liberal and Democratic protesters who would never violate the law intentionally. So the organizers would manipulate the green group to get into the street and protest. The green group’s not realizing that they’re being used to cover illegal behavior that’s interfering with the rights of other Americans to assemble. And then when the police told the green group to get out they would slow the green group down and try to keep them from getting out of the road. Well eventually the green group would get out of the road. And if that didn’t give the yellow group enough time to finish locking down across the road, then the red group—which are the black mask wearing anarchists would come in—and the red group would actually begin to attack police.
...
So the buses that did get through when they were held up by the yellow group, then the red group would come back and the red group threw bricks and flagstones through the windows, they slashed the tires of the buses, they threw bleach and urine in the delegates faces and they attacked the buses and the people on the buses. And that’s what they’re going to do this time.
And, chances are the major media will ignore/cover up/lie about it, and the Evil Party bigshots will scream about the cops and Stupid Party trying to 'shut down people speaking their minds', etc.
This has the potential to get real bad, real ugly, and real bloody.

According to the weather service, last night brought
almost 2" of rain. I'd rather have had it spread out over all day of light, but I'll take it. Especially since there's a couple of cracks across my yard that look like the aftermath of a earthquake.
Noting this mostly because it'll be handy for annoying the right people: yes, Woody Guthrie was a commie.
Democrats Protect Child Rapists; considering there's six Obama Truth Team clowns who voted against stronger penalties, that's more accurate than screaming "REPUBLICAN WAR ON WOMEN!!!" because of the idiot statement from Akin
Never forget: just because it's been in a zoo does not mean the big kitty is a housecat.
Take a look at this, and see if you can figure it all out: was it cartel shooters or Mexican authorities who damn near killed them?
And Borepatch is right: this should never be allowed to slip away:
R.I.P. Vicki Weaver, shot down by the FBI twenty years ago today. If Lon Horiuchi had been a better shot, he might have got her and her baby at the same time. That would have been a twofer, or something. Wonder if that gets you promoted to Special Agent.
And this is another opportunity to remind everyone that not only does Lon Horiuchi walk the land as a free man, but that he gets corporate endorsements.

Dammit; as Owens notes, even if I had the money I couldn't buy one(thanks to gun-bigot politicians) but oh, I want one

Gun show this weekend
Dad came up for it, so looked around, had lunch, went back and looked some more. No boomsticks followed me home, did find some bits & pieces I can use.
I did notice that you can now get 550 cord in colors never dreamed of by the developers. And lately some people have been filling a need: I like having some single-use packs of burn cream and antibiotic and such for the little emergency kits, but don't want to buy a big box of them; couple of dealers have been putting together bags of 3-4 packs of cream, antibiotic, iodine wipes and what have you for a buck or two. Very handy stuff to have.
Also, if you live in the OKC area and haven't been there, took daughter to Chilenos Mexican, about 59th & north May, for dinner; damn, that was good.

I didn't know it was National Knife Day!
So good thing I looked over here today.
In honor of the day, here's the pocketknife I've been carrying lately:
Kershaw assisted-opening; picked it up at a fun show about eight months ago. Smooth action, locks positively, and the blade was sharp as it came from the factory(which is as it should be). I've been quite happy with it: it holds an edge very well, and all it's taken to touch it up has been a few strokes on a ceramic stick.
And, since he had that Dundee clip posted, here's a real knife:
First big knife I ever made. 8.5" blade forged from leaf spring, brass guard, antler hilt. I've used this to cut meat, prune limbs, chop firewood and anything else that came along to test it on. Not long after made it, almost sold it(two kids, bills, the usual); happily things eased enough that I didn't have to, I'd have missed it.
