and lies about her own most recent(that we know of) lawbreaking...  Which leads me to this:
Insty has been pointing out the dangers in average people deciding "Screw this.  The government, the politicians, the agencies, THEY don't obey the law, so why should I?"  Which brings me to this on ATF and Gunwalker:
For example, “Gunwalker Bill” Newell, one of the principal architects of the scheme, was allowed to start his post-ATF civilian job and still draw his six-figure government salary and lavish benefits for about a year.

ATF Acting Director Kenneth Melson and US Attorney turned ATF Director Byron Todd Jones, both of whom were involved in Gunwalker planning and oversight, retired unscathed by their roles in the same heinous conspiracy. Another US Attorney  read on to and supportive of the program, Loretta Lynch, is now Attorney General. It’s as if the official motto of Operation Gunwalker was “Mess Up and Move Up.”
Helping smuggle guns to the drug cartels.  Violating a national border.  Lying under oath.  Submitting false documents.  And their attempt to help cover-up their wrongdoings?  Screw the little people, of course.
Unable to get at their cartel-leader targets (because the cartel personnel who were upstream from the straw purchasers ATF chose as entry points were all already being run as paid confidential informants by the FBI, or (more probably) were double agents taking FBI money to betray the FBI effort to their cartel bosses), the ATF targeted the only people they could, the straw buyers and their own cooperating witnesses. CW Ian Garland was thrown under the bus and sentenced to ten years in jail for selling guns Newell, Voth and McAllister directed him to sell to cartel buyers. ATF “expert” witnesses misrepresented the semi-auto weapons Garland sold as full-auto weapons, leading to a 10-year-sentence, but also to its overturn, and Garland’s release, on appeal. Garland’s out now (and cooperating, to the terror of the ATF, with the Mexican government in a probe of how guns ATF directed him to sell were used to murder Mexican law enforcement and court officers), but he not only was imprisoned (and remains convicted), but also they did all they could, as this period appeal makes clear, to make the process a punishment of its own .
Hey, they screw their own AGENTS for not being sufficiently quiet about ethical and legal shortcomings, you think it'll bother them to screw an informant?  Or some plain old citizen doing what they were told to by ATF?

And let's not forget, the EffingBI, and DEA, and other agencies were found to be involved in this and other gun-smuggling operations(that never got much attention in the media; gee, I wonder why...).  Every damned one of which made sure their people paid no price for what they did.

Any surprise more and more people are saying "You're telling me to obey the law?  Screw you; you start obeying it first" ?

Ben Brucato, of Amherst College, deserves all the fame

Brucato responded to an incident in Troy, New York, in which a carjacker opened fire and severely wounded two police officers before being shot and killed himself. The Amherst researcher started publicizing false information about the shooting, complained that officers who rushed to the scene had run stop signs, and insinuated that a black mayoral candidate who supported the white officers had performed oral sex on them.

You'll note that, when it was pointed out just what a nasty asshole he was showing himself to be, he tried to get various sites to not publish about this.  Because

Yet another officer has been killed this week in what is being described as having been planned by multiple parties to kill an Abilene police officer in his home.  The slain officer has been identified as Don Allen by the chief of police.  According to a local news source, Big Country Homepage, a search warrant for cell tower information included the following:
This ruling isn’t official, but a direct quote from the documents reads, “communication occurred between multiple parties to plan and carry out the murder. [The officer filing the warrant] believes cell towers within the ten mile radius will have captured transaction between the suspects who were involved in this murder.”
If correct, you're talking about conspiracy, planning murder.  Three guesses about political affiliations/probable racial group.

A less-than-stellar night last night

after a worrisome day.  Security Staff(Sr.) came hobbling out to breakfast, whining with every step; injury to a hind leg, I have no idea how.  She could eat and drink ok, so I cleaned it and kept antiseptic on, made sure plenty to eat and drink.

By evening and dinner she moved a little better, but still obviously in pain.  Made sure she was comfortable and let her rest, hoping for better this morning. 

So I slept lousy, and short, but out she came; still hobbling a bit, but much better.  And better yet as the day went on.  I'll make sure she takes it easy for another couple of days before any long walks.

Which is why I'm tired-out.  Tuckered.  Almost knackered.  You take care of the data study, I'm going to clean up and collapse.

United States District Court for the District of Columbia Judge Amy Berman Jackson ruled that Section 6103 of the tax code does not justify the IRS from withholding from FOIA requesters by refusing to say whether the records exist. She ordered the IRS to respond properly to an FOIA request submitted by the non-profit watchdog group Cause of Action.
Short version: "Hey, if the White House did this it would violate confidentiality to confirm it, so we don't have to tell you!"  Which is utter bullshit.  But about what we've come to expect.

Might it be that there's no mention of, let us say, shade?  Hue?  Skin color?  Wouldn't you think that would be important in the description of a murder suspect?

Hawking has a new idea about black holes, that to me

makes damn little sense.

The information about the object has to be preserved, scientists believe, even if the thing itself is swallowed up — and that paradox has puzzled scientists for decades.

Why?  Yes, I know: "Quantum mechanics, things work differently on that level!"  Which still leaves me in the dark.  Why would the 'information about the object' need to be preserved instead of simply going into the hole with the physical?

Now Hawking has proposed that the information is stored on the boundary, at the event horizon. That means that it never makes its way into the black hole, and so never needs to make its way out again either.
Stored?  How and why?  Is this something required by current theory, so they're trying to save it, or what?

Ah, another article on it, which contains this:
...These things cannot be lost, according to the way we think the universe works, and physicists generally believe that they aren't really lost. But where does the information go when the black hole that's absorbed it goes kaput?

It's brainy stuff, but without an explanation for the apparent paradox, some of the most basic laws we think exist in the universe are at stake. In sum, government agencies would need only to follow passive enforcement of the law, and allow illegal aliens to come into contact with legal authorities of various sorts rather that conduct deportation raids. ICE, then, would need only to deport those who had criminal holds on them — as they insidiously came into contact with the criminal justice system. The number and frequency of those encounters could be quite substantial each day and cumulatively so by year’s end.

What is absurd?

In addition to blasting the DOJ’s rabble rousing blog campaign and dishonest “investigation” thereof, the court found that cooperating defendants called to testify by the government lied; that defense witnesses were intimidated from testifying; and that inexplicably gross sentencing disparities resulted from the government’s plea bargains and charging practices.
Federal prosecutors behaving VERY badly.  And lying to judges.  Etc.  Now the convictions have been thrown out because of it, and the whole mess starts over.  Consequences to the prosecutors?
Perricone resigned. Mann retired with (as the Fifth Circuit made a point of noting) her “panoply of federal benefits intact,” notwithstanding her bald-faced lies to the district court.
And Dobinski? She remains in her high-paying job at the Civil Rights Division, in the unit that prosecutes police officers, having received only a “bare reproof,” as the appeals court describes it.
Finally, Bernstein, who held out on the trial judge, received an award from Eric Holder for her work after the New Orleans police trial.
Yeah.  Consequences.

Managers at the Environmental Protection Agency were aware of the possible risk for a catastrophic “blowout” at an abandoned mine that could release “large volumes” of wastewater laced with toxic metals, according to internal documents released late Friday.
As noted before, a engineer wrote about this a while BEFORE the idiocy happened; if you think these idiots weren't aware of the possibility...  And apparently weren't too worried about it:
Much of the text in the documents released Friday was redacted by EPA officials, according to The Associated Press. Among the items blacked out is the line in a 2013 safety plan for the Gold King job that specifies whether workers were required to have phones that could work at the remote site, which is more than 11,000 feet up a mountain.
Because why would you worry about someone being able to call out in the event of a problem?  Or a disaster?


Well, hell, why is this a surprise?  There were already reports that the company said it had migrated the data to another server before it wiped the original.  My question still stands: if the EffingBI actually cared about doing this right, why didn't that information result in a warrant for that other server, and anything else that might have had connection to it?

UPDATE: Following publication of this report, an ICE spokesperson told the Free Beacon that it has launched a pilot program in certain communities to notify local law enforcement of the release of “certain convicted aliens.”
Translation: "We got caught, and we've gotta do SOMETHING to pretend we give a damn about the people these illegals will kill and rape and such."
