Short version: The Obama admin. lied about the economy(again),
and Christmas sales were what people who actually live in the real world expected: bad.
I hate to wear out a theme, but faulty data coming out of Washington led people to believe Christmas sales would go gangbusters. Even the National Retail Federation said in October that the holiday season would see a strong 3.6 percent in sale gains.

During his time in the White House, President Obama has repeatedly demonstrated a style of decision making that gets him in trouble. Especially when the stakes are high and the issue is complex, the President overthinks himself and tries to split the difference between tough policy choices. He comes up with stratagems that work beautifully on paper and offer well reasoned, moderate alternatives to stark choices. Unfortunately, they usually don’t work all that well in the real world, with the President repeatedly ending up in the "sour spot" where his careful approaches don’t get him where he needs to go.
The recall's tomorrow in Colorado, and guns aren't the only thing driving them.

And they'd better be watching for fraud, because if you don't believe these bastards will cheat, well, would you like to buy some seafront property in the panhandle?

So if some Cypriot and EU politicians wind up dead, Italy might not do this?
Might be a bargain.

Of course, these are largely the same people who keep saying inflation isn't a problem, so either they're lying or- again- so detached they don't actually pay for their own groceries and such. 'Cause if they did, they'd damn well know better.

My hands are aching from all the scraping and sanding,
and the other day I somehow managed to scratch an eyeball slightly(yes, I know, even before went to the doc I shouldn't have been out in the wind and crap), so I've been looking around.

I am so sick of identity politics. This can go no further. We are either going to commit cultural suicide, or we will break the back of the snake of "group rights". There are none. The Constitution grants rights to individuals only. If we ever abandon that principle, then we are squarely in the world of the Muslim, Nazi, Communist and Italian fascists.
Liberty is an inherently offensive lifestyle. Living in a free society guarantees that each one of us will see our most cherished principles and beliefs questioned and in some cases mocked. That psychic discomfort is the price we pay for basic civic peace. It's worth it.
It's a pragmatic principle. Defend everyone else's rights, because if you don't there is no one to defend yours. If you are not willing to defend other people's rights, then US society is going to become an increasingly violent competition between groups for control. The choices before us are pretty clear. Do we want fighting in the streets, or do we want to support each individual's rights?

It's time for Americans to grapple with the fact that our academic system is riddled with people who espouse values that are utterly antithetical to the American Constitution and the founding principles of our society. I'm listening to/reading people I generally think smart who actually believe that not reelecting Obama means we hate someone/want someone to die/don't care about the world/are racist/I think are actually scared of Romney*. We've got a President who'd rather pander to terrorists and muslim fanatics than defend that Constitution he swore an oath to uphold and defend. I've actually had someone tell me that 'We're not out of money, there are a lot of rich people who have a lot we don't have access to yet!'(which scares the bloody hell out of me, because SHE ACTUALLY MEANT IT). As Sarah Hoyt has pointed out, poor people in the US live at a level that most nobles and princes of not that long ago could not imagine, yet we're constantly told that we 'owe' it to those poor to take care of EVERYFUCKINGTHING for them; otherwise "You don't CARE if people suffer/die/whatever!", etc(after 'It's for the CHILDRENNNN!' one of the more common insults lately). And so forth.
And that miserable sonofawhore Bernanke decided to make my savings and retirement account worth less and less, apparently so he can continue to play with peoples' lives and claim he's doing it for us.
And, of course, we have the savages working the Terrorist Veto worldwide. And the hoplophobes and gun bigots using lies to try to disarm anyone not with a 'State Minion' id. Add to that son being in Somewhereinthehell Afghanistan while our President is 'negotiating' with the enemy...

I'd always thought the idea of "Bank, buy gold for me
and hold onto it" didn't seem like the best of ideas; seems I wasn't being silly or cynical, I was ahead of the curve.
In 2007, Morgan Stanley paid out $4.4 million to settle a class-action law
suit by its clients after Morgan Stanley charged them to buy and "store" precious metals for them, but neither bought or stored the metals.

Avery Goodman points out that Morgan Stanley has once again just launched a similar scam, offering "allocated" metals, but gaming the definition so that the holdings are not really allocated.
And it's not just here:
When the customer finally got his gold, it was 2011 minted bars. This made no sense because he had been holding the allocated gold for years. That’s just another example that even the allocated gold in the banking system has probably been loaned out. Many of these customers will wake up one day and realize they entrusted their gold to the wrong people.”
When people in positions of power lament that they can't act like the PRC, it's a great big warning sign. If you weren't worried about these clowns already.
Harvard wants people to give them piles of money for an 'education'; how much of it is being wasted on PC crap like this?

I had to run to the store yesterday and noticed a couple of things
First, in years past on this weekend, it could be a problem getting into Penn Square Mall; from what I saw driving by, while you might spend a couple of minutes finding a place to park, you would find one. Might have to walk a bit to the entrance, but you could've parked.
Got to Wally World(closest place; I try to avoid the place, but it's difficult) and had no problem parking close to the doors. The place was average Sunday busy, no more.
Doesn't seem much like a 'recovery' going on, at least locally.

Well, this is encouraging as hell
The reason for my decision to pull the plug was excruciatingly simple: I could no longer tell my clients that their monies and positions were safe in the futures and options markets – because they are not. And this goes not just for my clients, but for every futures and options account in the United States. The entire system has been utterly destroyed by the MF Global collapse. Given this sad reality, I could not in good conscience take one more step as a commodity broker, soliciting trades that I knew were unsafe or holding funds that I knew to be in jeopardy.
The futures markets are very highly-leveraged and thus require an exceptionally firm base upon which to function. That base was the sacrosanct segregation of customer funds from clearing firm capital, with additional emergency financial backing provided by the exchanges themselves. Up until a few weeks ago, that base existed, and had worked flawlessly. Firms came and went, with some imploding in spectacular fashion. Whenever a firm failure happened, the customer funds were intact and the exchanges would step in to backstop everything and keep customers 100% liquid – even as their clearing firm collapsed and was quickly replaced by another firm within the system.
Everything changed just a few short weeks ago. A firm, led by a crony of the Obama regime, stole all of the non-margined cash held by customers of his firm. Let’s not sugar-coat this or make this crime seem “complex” and “abstract” by drowning ourselves in six-dollar words and uber-technical jargon. Jon Corzine STOLE the customer cash at MF Global. Knowing Jon Corzine, and knowing the abject lawlessness and contempt for humanity of the Marxist Obama regime and its cronies, this is not really a surprise. What was a surprise was the reaction of the exchanges and regulators. Their reaction has been to take a bad situation and make it orders of magnitude worse. Specifically, they froze customers out of their accounts WHILE THE MARKETS CONTINUED TO TRADE, refusing to even allow them to liquidate. This is unfathomable. The risk exposure precedent that has been set is completely intolerable and has destroyed the entire industry paradigm. No informed person can continue to engage these markets, and no moral person can continue to broker or facilitate customer engagement in what is now a massive game of Russian Roulette.
Makes that line about 'invest in canned goods, guns and ammo' even less of a joke, doesn't it?

Taking a look around, oh, where to start?
How about this:
The combination of rising gasoline prices and the steepest increase in the cost of food in a generation is threatening to push the US economy into a recession, according to Craig Johnson, president of Customer Growth Partners.
We got OUT of the recession? Really?
If we don't raise the debt ceiling:
"What will happen is that we'd have to stop making payments to our seniors -- Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security. We'd have to stop paying veterans' benefits. We'd have to stop paying all the other payments on all the other things the government does. And then we would risk default on our interest payments."

Is any of this true? Will seniors not get their June Social Security checks? Will doctors be stiffed for the health care they provided Medicare patients? Will the Pentagon be unable to buy fuel for missions in Afghanistan? If history is any guide, the answer to all of these questions is "no."
The United States has reached its debt limit three times in the past 30 years and not only did economic Armageddon never materialize, but not a single Social Security check was late.
So why is Geithner saying this(besides being a tax-cheating dirtbag)?
The GAO reports highlights the tremendous discretion Geithner has over how and when the federal government pays what bills. So the only reason June Social Security checks might not go out, as Geithner warned they might not, is if Geithner chose not to send them.

Yeah, the recovery is well under way, all right
Yesterday had to drive by Penn Square Mall enroute to a place. If you live in the OKC area, you know what that means this time of year: backed-up traffic in the streets around, and Deity help you if you actually want to get into the mall; usually they've got traffic cops directing things to try to keep the street-blocking to a minimum.
Not now. Normal traffic flow on Penn and on NW Highway, and going past I saw lots and lots of empty parking spaces where in EVERY year I can remember for the last 20 or so the place was packed(generally from about a week ago till Christmas).
Lets see, actual unemployment is above 10%, food and gas(and all other oil-related products) prices are up again, people don't know what the hell is going to happen with Obamacare(including what's going to turn up next the bastards in Congress didn't bother to read before voting on)... yeah, consumer confidence is up.
Problem is, it's up that "We're confident we're getting screwed because of the clowns in DC."

I really needed a new jacket,
as my old actually has holes in it, so I stopped by a bike shop to look at what's available. And walked out with a pretty nice one for damn near 2/3 off.
It's good for me on this, but the shop had a lot fewer customers in than in the past, like the traffic at the mall I mentioned the other day.
By the way, if there was ever an argument for not having cable, it's Keith Olberdork; the man is a walking example of idiocy and envy and hate.
On the one hand— Unaffordable Tax breaks for the beneficiaries of the Bush tax cuts, made ever more permanent as they threaten to suck four trillion dollars out of government revenues in the next decade.
Do you by any chance remember the yacht tax? Bunch of clowns who think the way you do decided "Anybody rich enough to buy a yacht ought to pay a big extra tax on it!"; and when the clowns passed the tax, the people who did have the money for such a boat either didn't buy one or bought it somewhere else, and the companies in the US who made the yachts suffered, which means the people who worked there suffered. It didn't bring in any extra money, and it cost jobs and revenue. That you think keeping the tax rates as they currently are is 'sucking four trillion out of revenues' is disgusting- well, not really disgusting, 'idiotic' is a better word. You don't pay any attention to the past, you refuse to learn from it and the envy and hate you display, well, THAT is disgusting(by the way, do you include John Effing Kerry the yacht-tax dodger in your 'sucking money from government' group?)
Except, of course, for the estate tax, what Republicans so happily call, “the death tax.” Which will be reduced from its 2009 levels.

The money given by one dead rich person to some living rich persons, will not be taxed, up to five million dollars. More than five million and it’s 35 percent — which is less than it was under the tax laws of President Bush’s last fiscal year. Sir, you have given undeserved tax breaks —and you have carved them a little more deeply into the stone of law – to rich people, living and dead. And you want me to tell them which Democrat proposed the Estate Tax giveaway?
Olberdork, I realize the chances of you ever reading this are about zero, but I'm going to say this anyway:
This may come as a shock to you, but every effing penny we earn is taxed. And if we invest it, even in a savings account, any earnings are taxed, and everything we buy is taxed, all our life long; that you think not being allowed to rape someone's estate when they die is a 'giveaway' tells me all I need to know about your twisted mind.
Enough. I'm more tired than I was when I got off this morning, and contemplating the scummy mind of Olberdork and the people he speaks for is just too much for my digestion right now.

I'm going to start thsi morning with the Reverend of Crap,

By the way, I'm going to be using Tinyurl on a lot of links for a while; Clayton Cramer noted that Righthaven has a bunch more papers now, and when I added the names to the blocklist it started blocking EVERYTHING. So until that gets sorted out.

And another one, the offspring of other corrupt politicians, says 'free internet for 'nappy-headed children' is a right. About a year or so ago I caught part of one of Kathy Griffin's routines; took about two minutes to change the channel. I have to ask, how effing stupid IS this woman?

Few years back I read an article about a firearm manufacturer who had an idea for a .22 autoloading rifle, but had one hitch: if the bolt had to be forged and machined it would be far too expensive, but if it could be extruded, cut to length and finish-machined(design had this in mind) it would be good. So they started calling manufacturers here in the US and all answered either "We can't do it" or "It'll cost about three times what you want to pay." So they decided to check on foreign makers and contacted a company in- as I recall- Germany, who looked at the specs, quoted a very good price and asked "How many tons do you want?" Smaller orders just fine, too, slightly higher cost. Giving in to unions for decades had kept most US companies from modernizing as they should have, so business kept going to foreign companies. As Ace puts it, providing service or information is great, but when people are making things they need parts; and if you can't make them(and for an affordable price), somebody else will.
Some "Why aren't people more aware of the Muslim Brotherhood?" questions. And why people NEED to be aware of the group.
I just finished reading 'Flight of the Intellectuals', which spends far more words than necessary trying to figure out why so many 'intellectuals' in the west cannot, or refuse to, acknowledge what and who the enemy is. For that matter that they ARE the enemy. Kind of amazing, really.
So it looks like our taxes won't get hit with the Obama Tax Increase next year, which is good; also good is this "We wanted to raise taxes but the House Democrats wouldn't stand up!" noise. Especially when you consider Democrats still control both Houses.
On the subject of the economy, last night I took daughter to dinner, and enroute we drove past Penn Square Mall. Every year I can remember, end of first week of December the parking lot was packed; last night there were lots of empty spaces. Years past the restaurant would have been a wait to get seated; last night, "How many? Follow me!" Anybody who says the economy is recovering is a liar or a fool.

If it’s illegal, and yet criminals still find a way to get around the law, then clearly it is actually legal and she wants to regulate EVERYTHING in an attempt to make it illegal(er).
I’ve had my share of experiences at smaller non-profit shops that sometimes have board members who like to speak out on their own. If I worked for the other side, I’m pretty sure my head would be dented from banging it against the desk and/or wall after reading Peterson’s comments. Seriously, Peter, if you don’t have a stash of the Montezuma in your desk for a quick chug every time she posts, let me know and I’ll bring you a bottle next time I’m down there.

Well, I think it's good news, though I'm sure
the mullahs are rather monkey-throwing-poo-level bothered.
If they're admitting that, no telling how bad the damage actually is. Little further along it's suggested getting the thing into their systems was an inside job; I have to wonder. If the Israelis built it for the purpose, well, we're talking the people who managed to get a top terrorists' backup cell phone and put a bomb in it, then hex his primary so he had to use the backup, and boom; their worried about literal national survival, that'd definitely give you an extra push to put things together. In any case, it's causing the Iranian government fits.

These websites indicate that Walker, the union leader and Sundin, a union member coordinated for the RNC Welcoming Committee and that it was open knowledge at the time that it was an anarchist group. The “fight back” website also cites a speech in 2004 by union President Walker about a trade dispute with U of M in which she stated that the union should use “any means necessary”. In 2005 she was served with a summons for obstructing legal process but the charges were dismissed for her role in a campus protest.

Reyes was a Communist guerrilla fighter known for cocaine trafficking and kidnapping Americans. Saint Paul Police have alleged a kidnapping plot by the anarchists aimed at the RNC.

He had a friendly, round face, a quick smile, and surprisingly gentle hands.” (Gee, I wonder how she came up with THAT description?) Of his death she wrote “The criminal Colombian government and their U.S. accomplices should be called to pay for this cowardly and criminal attack.” The Republican Party strongly supports the government of Columbia in its’ fight against the FARC. Some experts consider anarchist groups to be based on communist ideals and fronts for communist activities.
So she's a union clown, she works with anarchists and terrorists, and the Colombian government whacking a terrorist is- of course!- 'cowardly and criminal'. Nice people in the unions and 'anti-war' groups, huh?

The Iranian Ministry has stated that some 30000 industrial computers have been infected by Stuxnet. One of the main operations done by Stuxnet is that it extracts vital information from these systems and then sends it somewhere abroad. Iran has termed this virus as a spy virus, as it is deploying vital data to other countries. On the other hand it is said, a similar attack has been reported from Iran’s latest nuclear power plant facility, but these reports have not yet been confirmed.Three-thousand industrial computers … what industries and how extensive the damage is Iran isn’t saying. But we can hazard the guess that most of it is militarily related. Besides the ability to send information abroad, “Stuxnet” is reportedly able to commandeer computers and direct them to destroy what they are managing. If true, this changes the face of warfare.
If they're admitting that, no telling how bad the damage actually is. Little further along it's suggested getting the thing into their systems was an inside job; I have to wonder. If the Israelis built it for the purpose, well, we're talking the people who managed to get a top terrorists' backup cell phone and put a bomb in it, then hex his primary so he had to use the backup, and boom; their worried about literal national survival, that'd definitely give you an extra push to put things together. The website ProtestRNC2008.org carries a press release which sheds light on the activities of the RNC Welcoming Committee. The online notification posted June 8th, 2007 by a woman named Jessica Sundin calls for a meeting at the University of Minnesota Student Union Center co-hosted by the RNC Welcoming Committee.
