The family of Joseph Wilcox, the gun owner who tried to intervene
after the Las Vegas killers entered a Walmart only to be ambushed by the
female as he confronted the male, faces the burden of financial worries
in addition to their grief, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Monday.
His mother, Debra Wilcox, has no money to pay for his funeral.
A Wilcox Memorial Fund has been set up at Wells Fargo, the story reports.
“Those who wish to contribute to the Joseph R. Wilcox Memorial Fund
can do so using account number 8485852688,” it advises. “Donations to
the Wilcox family also can be made from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday
morning at Dunkin’ Donuts, 10100 S. Eastern Ave., Henderson; or at
Dunkin’ Donuts, 6935 N. Durango Drive.”
...Wells Fargo customer service advised this correspondent via telephone
that those wishing to contribute can go to any Wells Fargo branch
nationwide, but should provide the complete account number.

In which the FDA discovers
that a lot of the DC weenies they depend on really like cheese made the original way.
Yes! Following an enormous outcry from cheese makers, commentators, and the general public, the agency beats a hasty retreat. Commentator/ Pepperdine lawprof Greg McNeil has the details at Forbes (and his earlier commentary on the legalities of the agency’s action is also informative). Earlier here.
In a classic bureaucratic move, the agency denied it had actually issued a new policy (technically true, if you accept the premise that a policy letter from its chief person in charge of cheese regulation is not the same as a formally adopted new policy) and left itself the discretion to adopt such a policy in future if it wishes (merely declaring itself open to persuasion that wood shelving might prove compatible with the FSMA).
All is not well; they left the door open to doing it again later, and there's all the other crap they want to crap with(and on).

Pulaski County, Indiana, is home to less than 14,000 people. In all
of 2012, they saw only 11 larceny or theft incidents, one murder and a
grand total of 17 property crimes.
Yet, their police force has a mine-resistant ambush protection vehicle at their disposal.

The Bowe Bergdahl mess
isn’t just a story about one deserter, but two. There’s the
muddle-headed lowlife who left his post and brothers behind. And there’s
the corrupt commander-in-chief who has jeopardized more American
soldiers’ lives to “rescue” Bergdahl by bowing to the Taliban, while
snubbing the surviving heroes and at least 8 dead American soldiers who
lost their lives because of him.

This attitude needs to spread:
So when we throw a flash-bang stun grenade into a baby's crib and critically injure the child, and claim that we've done nothing wrong because OMG drugs!, well, we're not being the Good Guys anymore.
I'm done with people's grandparents dying in a hail of bullets as they respond with a gun in hand to the intruders in their house, who happen to be cops serving a search and arrest warrant on their grandkid.
I'm done with no-knock warrants.

Forget what the politicians on Capitol Hill are saying about the prisoner swap. Forget the pontifications from the myriad talking heads on TV and radio. Now you know what members of our U.S. military are thinking and saying. They have lost all respect for their commander in chief.

The Obama administration passed up multiple opportunities to rescue Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl because the president was dead-set on finding a reason to begin emptying Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, according to a Pentagon official.
'JSOC went to the White House with several specific rescue-op scenarios,' the official with knowledge of interagency negotiations underway since at least November 2013 told MailOnline, referring to the Joint Special Operations Command. 'But no one ever got traction.'
'What we learned along the way was that the president wanted a diplomatic scenario that would establish a precedent for repatriating detainees from Gitmo,' he said.
Translation: Obama doesn't have the balls to just close the place(as he promised and KEEPS promising to do) so he decided that playing "I shall save this soldier by releasing these terrorists and murderers" would be a way to start turning bad guys loose. Way to go, Lightbringer.

'JSOC went to the White House with several specific rescue-op scenarios,' the official with knowledge of interagency negotiations underway since at least November 2013 told MailOnline, referring to the Joint Special Operations Command. 'But no one ever got traction.'
'What we learned along the way was that the president wanted a diplomatic scenario that would establish a precedent for repatriating detainees from Gitmo,' he said.

I updated the thumb safety fitting post
here, but decided to also add the update in as a new post.
The thumb safety on a 1911, when pushed up to the 'on' position, rotates a piece into place against the legs on the bottom of the sear, locking the sear nose into the full-cock notches(also called hammer hooks) on the hammer. A very positive safety.
Considering the number of people making parts for 1911-style pistols, it's common to have to do a bit of fitting on one of these. Rather than duplicate a couple of very good pieces I'll refer you to the M1911 Forum site: a very nice piece using a cutaway to show exactly how the thumb and grip safeties work, and fitting the thumb safety here.
I used a stone instead of a file(takes a lot longer to mess something up that way, so more chance to spot it if you're messing up) so it took me longer than it should; in any case, works perfectly.

CAL-FFL warned that the broad language of the seizure warrant could lead not only to midnight “no-knock” raids against the subject of the restraining order–who may not even know that their gun rights have been stripped away and that they are now a “prohibited person”–but also the homes of their friends and family, and even places of employment.
Just think of assholes with badges like the ones who shot up two trucks full of innocent people making SWAT raids to seize firearms. And using ANY excuse during the raid to kill people("Hey, we knew they were armed so we couldn't take chances! Sorry about the kids.")

Chipotle restaurants in Oklahoma have officially taken the position that they would rather see people leave their guns at home, but they won't ask you to leave if you don't; after all, in Oklahoma it is legal to openly carry, so they at least respect the law and your rights.
Moms Demand Action on the other hand, seemed to be demanding a little much on this Saturday afternoon as they approached management and asked them to throw OKOCA members out of the restaurant because they were "offended" by the presence of guns.
To be honest, we were expecting this, and we figured that we would be asked to leave; but what happened next was nothing less than awesome. The manager refused to kick out OKOCA and even gave them free drinks. MDA activists then proceeded to take pictures of the gun owners and attempted to portray them as intimidating and threatening. The management wasn't having any of it; he threw Moms Demand Action out of his store!
Moral: being asshat SJWs and screwing with people in a restaurant may not end well for you.

Beyond that, I can’t make a case for a no-knock entry, for precisely the reason that occurred in Cornelia.

The fitting is done Updated
(actually done hours ago), and it works. I do think it needs a little polishing; that I'll do later(more information to be added later). At this point I'm falling-over tired, and worried about friends(short version: daughter, who's been pushing her luck for a long time, really screwed the pooch. More complicated than that, but that'll do).
Update: the thumb safety on a 1911, when pushed up to the 'on' position, rotates a piece into place against the legs on the bottom of the sear, locking the sear nose into the full-cock notches(also called hammer hooks) on the hammer. A very positive safety.
Considering the number of people making parts for 1911-style pistols, it's common to have to do a bit of fitting on one of these. Rather than duplicate a couple of very good pieces I'll refer you to the M1911 Forum site: a very nice piece using a cutaway to show exactly how the thumb and grip safeties work, and fitting the thumb safety here.
I used a stone instead of a file(takes a lot longer to mess something up that way, so more chance to spot it if you're messing up) so it took me longer than it should; in any case, works perfectly.
I think I shall get into the shower*, clean up, read a bit and then crash. Hopefully missing the floor in the process.

Just guessing, but there's another promoter who seems to put one on every other weekend when possible. Haven't been to those in months: they always have the same people with the same crap, and they're small. I think he's screwing up the market.

I used to know a lady who pretty much bought into every leftist whatever you can think of('Poverty and lack of education causes terrorism!' 'What about the rich and well-off and well-educated Saudis who committed the 9/11 attacks?' 'Silence') , and one of her heroes was Jimmy Carter.

Why, oh WHY did she just looove Jimmy? "Because he made all those international agreements! Like the nuclear weapons treaty with North Korea."

It didn't matter that they fell through, it didn't matter that a lot of them were nothing more than bullshit window-dressing, it didn't matter that they were generally large piles of suck and fail: HE MADE AGREEMENTS, and that's what counted. I found myself staring at her for a moment with what was probably an idiot look on my face, because it was hard to believe she actually believed that. She did.
And that's what we seem to have here: Obama & Co. seem to think that results don't matter, his intentions and desires are what count, and screw actual results.
So here we sit, with a bunch of idiots who think their intentions and good thoughts count for more than results...
On the 'BETTER work' end, I've been refnishing my bedroom floor. Hardwood, and whoever did it last time did a pretty sucky job: in a few places the finish was starting to flake off, it was very thin in some areas and THICK in others. So I finally got around to doing it. Spent a few days shifting things around to clear sections of floor and scraped as much of the old finish off as I could, figuring all of it I got rid of would mean that much less clogging the sandpaper. Which got a LOT of it off; I made a bigger scraper from a remaining piece of saw and discovered that in a lot of areas, if I got the angle right, I could push instead of pull and pop flakes off. And sometimes strip sheets of finish off. I got a lot of that stuff off.
Few days ago friends came over and helped move the bed and other furniture out, I pulled the baseboard trim and did the last scraping, then rented one of these, bought a bunch of abrasive sheets and started sanding.
Can't complain about the sander; it did the job. The problem- again- goes back to the last time: whoever did it used one of the drum-type sanders, and if you don't watch what you're doing you wind up sanding dips into the floor. In this case a bunch of them, some very shallow and a few deep. The shallow mostly disappeared but trying to get rid of all of them would've required taking a LOT of wood off, more than I was comfortable with, so got it as much as could, then used a pad sander to clean all the old finish out of those remaining.
By the time all this was done I'd produced enough dust to build a small tree, some of which was lodged in places you do not want such material to be. Got all that swept and vacuumed up, and this morning put on the third coat of finish.
I really don't want to do this again anytime soon; between the vibration of the sander, and the hot, and the fumes and dust, it's a bloody mess. At this point I shall ignore that room for the rest of the day, and hope for the best.

So I finally got around to doing it. Spent a few days shifting things around to clear sections of floor and scraped as much of the old finish off as I could, figuring all of it I got rid of would mean that much less clogging the sandpaper. Which got a LOT of it off; I made a bigger scraper from a remaining piece of saw and discovered that in a lot of areas, if I got the angle right, I could push instead of pull and pop flakes off. And sometimes strip sheets of finish off. I got a lot of that stuff off.
Few days ago friends came over and helped move the bed and other furniture out, I pulled the baseboard trim and did the last scraping, then rented one of these, bought a bunch of abrasive sheets and started sanding.
Can't complain about the sander; it did the job. The problem- again- goes back to the last time: whoever did it used one of the drum-type sanders, and if you don't watch what you're doing you wind up sanding dips into the floor. In this case a bunch of them, some very shallow and a few deep. The shallow mostly disappeared but trying to get rid of all of them would've required taking a LOT of wood off, more than I was comfortable with, so got it as much as could, then used a pad sander to clean all the old finish out of those remaining.
By the time all this was done I'd produced enough dust to build a small tree, some of which was lodged in places you do not want such material to be. Got all that swept and vacuumed up, and this morning put on the third coat of finish.
I really don't want to do this again anytime soon; between the vibration of the sander, and the hot, and the fumes and dust, it's a bloody mess. At this point I shall ignore that room for the rest of the day, and hope for the best.
And if Huggins had negligently killed the man, (link fixed)

An Edgewater police officer is under investigation for accidentally discharging a rifle while answering what turned out to be a hoax call, a police official said.
Timothy Huggins, a 16-year veteran of the Edgewater Police Department, discharged his firearm as he and another officer were at a home in the city checking out reports of a hostage situation, Edgewater police Capt. Joe Mahoney said Tuesday.
And, Daniel Mease, 25, a Marine veteran who said he was at his father’s Kumquat Drive home visiting for Memorial Day, claims Huggins was careless and negligent with the handling of his firearm.
I tend to take the word of the Marine on this. Especially after reading
Mease said Huggins pointed the AR-15 while the other officer aimed a Taser at him and asked him for identification. As Mease, who retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after a seven-month tour in Afghanistan, walked to his car to get his ID, followed by the officers, he heard the shot behind him, he said.
I tend to agree with Smith that the 'we had to wrestle the knife away' is bullshit. Hey, they've got say SOMETHING to make this idiocy seem less their fault, right?

LOCAL women in the villages of Attagara and Kawuri in Borno State disarmed 10 Boko Haram terrorists who tried to attack their communities over the weekend resulting in the lynching of seven of the insurgents.
As part of its ongoing reign of terror, Boko Haram tried to spread its operations to Attagara and Kawuri villages in Gwoza and Bama Local Government Areas of Borno State. However, they were resisted by a group of women using local charms among other things and were disarmed.
After the women repelled the attacks, they then raised the alarm and the rest of the community rallied round to apprehend the insurgents. Three of the terrorists fled but seven were arrested and lynched by an irate mob.
Wonder if some .gov rep is going to tell them "Now register your guns or, preferably, turn them in" ?
Which question might actually be 'Will some .gov rep be stupid enough to tell them-"
Apparently the police in London think actual crime is so under control that they feel free to violate law and ethics and act like this.
The proper response ought to be "No warrant? No court order? Give me your names and ranks so I know who to tell my solicitor to sue."
Further cheering, outrage and whatever will have to wait. Got the second coat on the floor this morning after not nearly enough sleep, and now need to edge and mow. Partly because it's needed, partly because if I keep sitting here I'll fall asleep.
