Two things about the mess in Ukraine:

First, it looks like they managed to hit another Russian ship, a fairly new guided-missile frigate.

Second,
The US has secretly been giving Ukraine real-time battlefield intelligence that directly helped its military kill Russian generals, according to a report — drawing an angry response Thursday from the Kremlin.
Something like that is supposed to be kept bloody SECRET, if for no other reason than both sides being able to pretend publicly that it's not going on; big and public is not good.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin — who met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv last month — has admitted that the US wants “to see Russia weakened to the degree it cannot do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine.”
From someone who's not expert in such matters: are these people actually bloody stupid?  "We want to fuck Russia up as much as possible" would seem to be a generally bad thing to say.

Oh yes, things are going just wonderfully.

The aftermath will become your full-time job for weeks or months afterward, and you will quickly grow weary of writing checks to lawyer(s). It is, of course, better than being dead or suffering a permanently disfiguring or disabling injury, but the “penalty” for successfully fighting for your life is still formidable.

Crowds of any kind, particularly those with an agenda, such as political rallies, demonstrations, picket lines, etc are good examples of “stupid places.” Any crowd with a high collective energy level harbors potential catastrophe. To a lesser degree, bank buildings, hospital emergency rooms, airports, government buildings, and bars (particularly crowded ones) fall into the same category. All should be avoided. When they can’t be avoided, we should make it a practice to spend only the minimum time necessary there and then quickly get out.

I'll throw in, a few years ago I wrote to the management of a big mall who had 'No Concealed Carry' on the doors asking why?  The response was "It is our policy to only allow our security guards and police to carry weapons on our property."
"So if I am attacked or robbed in your parking lot or parking garage, you're liable for not protecting me and not allowing me to carry a weapon for self-defense?"
Unsurprisingly, there was no response.  You're on your own but they don't want to actually admit it.

I finally got some loading done,

and the number one problem right now is the leg still being swollen some.  Which means sitting gets uncomfortable, which means breaking everything up into sessions so it doesn't start troubling too much.  I'll need to get some more done in the near future of a couple of cartridges, but it won't go quickly.

The knee is improving, lots more  motion regained.  The weird thing is when walking at times there's a slight 'click' as you step.  Everyone says it's normal as things settle in together, but it's still weird.  I'm having to walk more slowly than normal so as to keep the step on that side as close to normal as can.  Which I have to make myself do: I spent so many years working where you had to get things done quickly, making myself walk slowly is difficult.

Won't be as hard today.  We had a bunch of storms in the area, and between the noise and aching I slept lousy.  Not helped by Security Staff, who's been learning to sleep in the house, still gets nervous when it thunders and looks for hiding places.  Somewhat noisily at times.  So I'm moving slow.

Ah well, various things have to do today, like it or not.  Right now it's 'not'.

In its latest Commodity Markets Outlook report, the World Bank projected commodity prices will remain higher for years to come. Perhaps most alarming is that the multilateral bank projects energy prices will soar 50.5 percent this year—after nearly doubling in 2021. The rise in energy prices, the Wall Street Journal reports, has been “the most significant since the early 1970s.”

Food prices, meanwhile, which rose 31 percent last year, are projected to increase 23 percent this year. Needless to say, these price increases come at considerable cost, particularly to the most vulnerable in society.
And no, most people aren't buying "It's all because of Putin!  And Biden can't really do anything about gas prices!"  They know this all started up before Putin getting froggy, and there's been enough video of Biden clowns laughing about it, and talking about 'this opportunity to get rid of fossil fuels' and such to reinforce it.

I know the left is going to cheat in the election in every way possible, but they're still in trouble.  And they know it.

either never heard of or forgot about one thing: Even at the time Roe v Wade was passed, one helluva lot of lawyers, professors and all, said this day would come because it was a bad decision based on bad reasoning.  Therefore, sooner or later, this would happen.

Which means nothing, or course, to the screamers.

Ran across this piece on how the courts have been getting so badly screwed up, and here's a part on this particular mess:

But the idea of breathing a word about the actual workings of the court, about a decision that had not yet been made public—that would have appalled every single one of these people, liberal and conservative alike.

What did he mean by that? “They think that everything is violence. And so everything is permitted.”(bold mine)

He went on: “I’m sure this person sees themselves as a whistleblower. What they don’t understand is that, by leaking this, they violate the trust that is necessary to maintain the institution.”
Why would they?  They've been throwing fits about everything from "You can't let THEM speak here!" to "That teacher upsets us,  fire him!" for years, and getting away with it; why would they give a damn about the institution?  The heads of most universities have taught them they don't have to care, and the consequences are showing.

God damn every so-called 'teacher' involved in this.

Every one of them involved, from the principal on down, should be fired and banned from ever working around kids.  They're doing this shit to 4-year olds...

It's raining, and I ache

I think the mowing, at least as much as I did, was a bit much, taking it a bit easy today might be a good idea.  

All the news is the usual crap pile of arrogance, stupidity, oathbreaking, and general idiocy, which I'm going to pass on commenting on right now, as I could've used a couple more hours of decent sleep and so don't give a rats ass about  most of it right now.

I have to go with what Calvin once said: growing up is just about the worst mistake you can make.

I managed the amazing feat,

which would probably have been disapproved by the doctor, of getting the mower out and hitting a few of the high spots, putting it away, and then doing almost all of the current PT list before exhaustion set in.  And yes, I did do the ice and elevate after.

I am completely knackered.  I can't even think of anything that sounds good to eat, but I'll have to put something down.

Dammit, I hate being this worn down, but it's still progress.

Last week the Taliban Interior Ministry in Kabul announced that they had arrested a man in Afghanistan who was in the process of selling something called the Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System (JLENS) to Iran. Apparently, the Taliban wanted the JLENS for themselves so they seized the system and locked up the seller.

"The JLENS integrated fire-control radar and 360-degree surveillance radar already gives the warfighter the capability to detect and engage surface and airborne threats like swarming boats and anti-ship cruise missiles," said Dave Gulla, vice president of Global Integrated Sensors for Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems business at the time. "Integrating the proven MTS-B on JLENS makes JLENS multi-mission capable and enables the warfighter to better defend the battlespace and protect critical infrastructure and waterways."

'Higher' Education and academy

When a Jewish English professor at Linfield University in Oregon, Daniel Pollack-Pelzner, reported the sexual misconduct of four of the university’s ten trustees, he was first ignored, then subjected to anti-Semitic attacks, and then fired without any due process when he described those attacks on Twitter.

The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) investigated Linfield University following the 2021 chain of events, and released the nineteen-page report on their findings earlier this month, stating that “[g]eneral conditions for academic freedom and shared governance at Linfield University are deplorable.” The AAUP concluded that the school’s dismissal of the formerly tenured professor violated the 1940 Statement of Principles on Academic Freedom and Tenure, Regulations 8 and 5a of the Recommended Institutional Regulations, as well as Linfield’s own regulations, of which Davis told The Chronicle of Higher Education he was unaware.

Pollack-Pelzner’s dismissal “jeopardized the faculty’s exercise of academic freedom and contributed to a culture of abuse,” according to the report.

One more thing before I give up for the night, and that is something on Alec Baldwin's mess

However, it does provide critical information on how the negligent discharge likely happened. The video shows Baldwin repeatedly drawing his gun while rehearsing a scene. It shows Baldwin clearly had his finger on the revolver’s trigger as he practiced the draw. In the last take of the video, he can be seen pulling the hammer back and releasing it while he has his finger on the trigger. The hammer clearly falls forward after being released.

As I said back in December, this was always the most likely scenario to explain how the gun fired. On a single-action revolver like the one Baldwin used, the hammer will catch on a series of sears when pulled back. However, depressing the trigger while pulling the hammer back will cause it to bypass those sears. If pulled back far enough before being released while the trigger is depressed, it could cause a live round in the cylinder to fire.

Baldwin has claimed he “didn’t pull the trigger.” However, his description of the shooting makes that hard to believe.

“I cock the gun. I go, ‘Can you see that? Can you see that? Can you see that?’” Baldwin told ABC. “And then I let go of the hammer of the gun, and the gun goes off. I let go of the hammer of the gun, the gun goes off.”

This is not possible without a severe mechanical defect in the gun or, more likely, the trigger being depressed. While it’s possible Baldwin kept his finger off the trigger during the shot, the video strongly suggests it’s unlikely. He had his finger on the trigger in these takes. He probably did during the final shot as well.
It's been warned, over and over, 'What you do in practice/training is what you'll do under stress'.  Sounds like Baldwin had a well-developed bad habit and followed it during the critical time.  Throw in either the prop master or someone else allowing live ammo on set, and disaster was pretty much certain.

The knee is coming along,

the PT telling me it's doing well.  It aches at times, which I do have a med for, but I can get around fairly well, just not quickly.

The other problem mentioned, saw a specialist today who informed me it's nowhere near as bad as my fears had pumped it up.  Started a new med specifically for this*, a couple more days and the worst of the discomfort there should be cleared.  No, no details, as it's an uncomfortable subject; I'll probably feel more like putting out some details later.


*Yes, checked both of these against the stuff was already taking, no conflicts show.

The statement of support comes shortly after the nation’s largest group for Black gun owners criticized Richardson’s demotion. On Friday, The National African American Gun Association said the leadership changes had “the appearance of being racially motivated and/or politically expedient.” President Biden passed over Richardson twice in favor of nominating White candidates with backgrounds in advocating for strict gun-control measures to be the agency’s permanent director. The additional slight of demoting him only a few months before his time as acting director is set to run out has added an extra layer of outrage which may end up sinking his latest attempt to fill the permanent director role.

The President moved to demote Richardson after he was accused of being too friendly with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), a trade group for the gun industry. In March, The New York Times said Richardson appeared to be “an industry-friendly subordinate” who was “pumping the brakes” on President Biden’s plan to more strictly regulate gun companies and dealers. Gun-control group Newtown Action Alliance slammed Richardson for the agency attending the gun industry’s trade show even though it was an agency practice that long predated Richardson’s role as acting director. They applauded the President’s decision to replace him.

BAPLEA pushed back on the criticism that Richardson is too friendly towards the industry. Hester-Davis said Richardson fostered relationships with gun companies because that was the best approach to ensuring compliance and cooperation on investigations into the criminal use of guns.
So: we have an experienced guy who actually built good relationships with the firearms industry, and- for a "I want people of colour in all positions!" a big thing- he's black.  And he gets trashed because instead of someone with said good relationships, Biden & Co. want an anti-gun asshat who'll ignore the law whenever possible to screw the industry and gun owners.

These people are assholes, pure and simple.  They've often demonstrated they think the Constitution is something to be ignored or gotten around in pursuit of what they want, and they've just told black agents they don't give a damn about them.  I'm sure that's gone over well.

Frustration

is part of the problem.  Part of that is things like this: there's not a comfortable way to sit either for browsing or blogging(though it is improving), which makes it harder both to dig things up and to write about them.  Same for loading: have to be able to sit comfortably in front of the press and all; on top of that I've got a bunch of loads to test that, between weather and health crap, I haven't been able to for months.

Normally I'd be outside part of the day tilling the garden, or mowing, and weedeating(when I can get the bastard to run), and right now those are specifically on the 'Do Not Do list'.  Throw in some small stuff, painting and such, that, due to location, I don't trust myself on yet, would be too easy to trip or lose balance and fall.  At least the staples are all out.

Except for the knee stuff, most workout stuff is still off the list, so can't burn some of it off that way.

Told someone a few months ago that 'getting old is easy, BEING old sucks'.  Boy, was I right.

There has been very little on firearms and reloading lately

for the simple reasons that I haven't been able to shoot except for a few rounds indoors, and I still can't sit in one place long enough to do any loading(come on and heal up, knee!)

God, I want some things to get back to (relative) normal again.

The teacher played several videos for her 8-year-old students that addressed “queer kid stuff,” “pride parades,” “love is love,” and a lesson on Stonewall. One of the videos (below), called Talking to Kids About Pride Month, was pretty disturbing.

The most alarming video that we would like to discuss is “Talking To Kids About Pride Month” with Jessi Cruickshank. In this video, we see the normalization of an adult speaking to children about sexual desires. It desensitizes children to the act of adults talking to them about sexual topics. In the video, the host says, “Jodie Foster is a woman, and she made me question my sexuality when I was a child because I liked her so much. And she was nude in the film ‘Nell.’ Not that I remember watching it several times as a child.”

This video is intended to instruct children about appropriate interpersonal relationships – and what did the child learn? The child learned that it is okay for an adult to talk to a child about watching nude people in movies, and having it affect their sexual desires and sexual arousal. This is normalizing behavior – a known tactic of sexual groomers – that should be a warning sign to parents and children. The behavior observed here is adults talking to children about sexual desires and sexual attraction.
Remember, it's not just some teachers and school boards, it's school administrators supporting/turning a blind eye to it, and when caught either not responding or playing "This does not meet the standards we set for ourselves, etc."

Now throw in the 'transgender' bullshit which  is literally being pushed by some teachers, and school 'counselors' either directly involved in pushing it or too scared to say anything.  Add in some parents who're so PC on the subject they're developmentally disabled.  Stir in chickenshit politicians who'll support ANYTHING that keeps their leftist base happy, and we've got mass child abuse.

I shall now see if the PT exercises will burn off some of the pissed-off this has stirred up.

This past year and a half has sucked in multiple ways not related to politics;

It would be really nice if the last few weeks was the capstone.

Short version: probably triggered by have a catheter in during the knee surgery, the prostate got annoyed, which led to a couple of problems, which led to another hospital visit, which hopefully will help normalize things; I'll find out Thursday, I hope.  This is on top of trying to get the PT done on the knee, which had to be cancelled for today.  Current treatment somewhat beats what was going on but is still unpleasant.

So that's how all that sits.  Better than being dead, but that doesn't mean it's fun.

Let us just say the past week and a half kind of sucked

Not due to the knee, to another problem.  Which hopefully will get better quickly.  Details at a later time, as I'm too damn tired to tell it.  And have to fumble through the PT stuff.

Will say that if I don't sleep decently tonight, I may give up.  Various things have been tried with no effect I could tell.  If there weren't a couple of downsides to it, especially now, I'd seriously consider whiskey.  The headache in the morning might be worth it.
