Two things about the mess in Ukraine:

First, it looks like they managed to hit another Russian ship, a fairly new guided-missile frigate.

Second,
The US has secretly been giving Ukraine real-time battlefield intelligence that directly helped its military kill Russian generals, according to a report — drawing an angry response Thursday from the Kremlin.
Something like that is supposed to be kept bloody SECRET, if for no other reason than both sides being able to pretend publicly that it's not going on; big and public is not good.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin — who met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv last month — has admitted that the US wants “to see Russia weakened to the degree it cannot do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine.”
From someone who's not expert in such matters: are these people actually bloody stupid?  "We want to fuck Russia up as much as possible" would seem to be a generally bad thing to say.

Oh yes, things are going just wonderfully.

the dem war drums are working. my gop rep even joined the bandwagon. i tried to get thru to him how he's being played, to no avail. if vlad doesn't nuke us, the left will and blame it on vlad and the right. the gop has a landslide lined up but they are determined to flip it back to the dems like a hot potato. crazy.

These "Putzes in Power" are greasing the slide between the Archduke and Nagasaki. Not sure if it will destroy most of the progress made since 1880 or so, but I'd expect that as due to lack of parts and practitioners we are 'screwed'. The DM of TPTB has yet to announce the 'saving throw' for Western Rule of Law versus chaos.
We are living interesting times AND we are looking at the next five more years as being just as strange for individuals.

Ronald Reagan made a statement on an allegedly dead microphone stating "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes." He made also made a derogatory remark about the Polish government when the opposed the Solidarity movement. The reaction from his political opponents reacted as you would expect, but the end result was exactly as planned. What was officially an inadvertent gaffe by a President known for making humorous remarks was in reality a way for the US to take a stand without taking a stand. The most recent attempt was what you'd expect from this administration, the wrong statement at the wrong time from the wrong spokesman, it's quite possible an attempt to recreate Reagan's actions. Sadly, what should have been a deniable message detailing help to the Ukrainian fighters, they released an undeniable confession of covert aid. Whether it was a planned or unplanned leak, it simply proves the incompetence of this administration.
