Big civil rights win in Californicated
California's statute to confiscate all magazines over 10 rounds has been permanently enjoined by the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. The opinion was written by Judge Roger T. Benitez.
Previously, Judge Benitez had issued a preliminary injunction against the confiscation law, and the preliminary injunction was upheld by the Ninth Circuit, as discussed in this post. Today's decision follows cross-motions for summary judgment, and makes the injunction permanent. The next step in Duncan v. Becerra will be an appeal to the Ninth Circuit by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra.

Mold came in, cast the first bullets
of the Lyman Postell design. The mold is listed as 535 grains, of 15-1 these came out 520.* Diameter is .459-.460. I've heard that some people were getting undersize from this mold, either they got one made with a worn cherry or I got a good one. Considering Lyman has been doing this a while, I'm betting worn cherry.
They're lubed and sized(the sizer being .459 it mostly makes sure it's the same all the way around and wipes off excess lube), now I need to figure a starting load and try them out.
* On the Lyman 330-grain hollowpoint, the ones I've cast came out 340 grains; depending on alloy/mold/brownies messing with things, you almost always get some variation

Incredibly, in the hands and the realm of the ATF, an effort to clamp down on the power of the administrative state has ended up making the administrative state more powerful than ever. There are excellent reasons not to want federal bureaucracies to circumvent the APA. But the alternative to preventing circumvention of the APA is not private letter rulings. It is law passed by Congress and administered by the federal government publicly, fairly, and in line with Congress’s intent.
Anyone who says that the firearms industry just hates the ATF because the ATF is reining in the cowboys by private letter is, frankly, ignorant. The firearms industry is already one of the most heavily-regulated in the United States. Anyone who works in this industry and doesn’t follow the rules can get in big trouble very quickly. What the firearms industry wants is for ATF policies and interpretations to be open and transparent so as to promote an even playing field.

Speaking of people not to be trusted, I give you the major media
Friends in France tell me that the Yellow Jackets are mostly middle
class and middle aged, people who never even joined in the perennial
French sport of striking; people who have jobs, bills, families. My
corroborative evidence for this is that the protests happen mostly on
the weekend. These people are busy the rest of the time, and can’t
afford to lose their jobs.
And in my opinion, this is why the media is not reporting on them, if they can help it (note that I linked a British newspaper, and even those try not to report on these demonstrations if they can.)
Because when Middle Class and Middle Aged people go rogue and take to the streets, it means that most people in the country are very, very, very pissed off. Bourgeois, which the Left has tried to make into an insult, but which are in fact the backbone of the west are the people who do things and keep our communities ticking. They have to get very, very mad before they risk family and job and a clean record. When they get to that point they are ten seconds from having nothing left to lose. Which is the point.
And most of our media are in love with the EUnuchs and the idea of government controlling everything(especially who actually gets to report on things, that part really gets them wet).

And the last couple of years, with the constant "Trump Bad!" as their constant 'reporting', they've made it worse. And when the agent in charge was asked why no recordings, "It never occurred to us to do that."
Even if they didn't deliberately lie, they're going by notes of an interview, NOT a transcript, and errors can creep in. You're left thinking that the reason they don't record the interviews is because they don't want an exact transcript. Now reflect on why that might be.
Why anyone would trust the FBI about anything anymore, I cannot understand.

Was able to hit the range the other day,
and had an interesting target(I'm skipping the other stuff, at least for now).
This is .45-70, using the Lyman 340-grain hollowpoint* cast of 20-1, over 29.5 grains of A5744 propellant. Used the sizing die to iron out the mouth flare and crimp it. 100 yards.
What makes it real interesting is that on two shots, looking through the scope, I thought I'd somehow missed the whole target, which didn't make sense: I've had good results with this combination(different crimp) before, and the shots felt right. Then I got the target and saw that those two holes on the left are a bit larger, a touch oval-shaped, than they should be... Holy crap.
I need to reshoot these, two groups: one with this crimp, one with standard crimp, because this is the tightest group I've ever had with this bullet, and I need to see if I just had a real good day, or if that one difference makes that much difference.
