The new law clarifies that a person may threaten the use of defensive force in order to prevent or terminate an imminent or actual unlawful physical attack or commission of a forcible felony by an aggressor.

It's Friday night; I think I shall inspect the data
with a bit less rigour and a bit more, appreciation, tonight.
So not only were these murderers with Occupy,
it appears Las Vegas PD is trying to deflect attention from their screwups.
Jerad and Amanda Miller, who were banished from Bunkerville by supporters of Cliven Bundy, had worked as informants for Nevada law enforcement agencies. After the Millers murdered three people — Las Vegas Metro Officers Alyn Beck and Igor Soldo, and Joseph Wilcox, an armed citizen who heroically tried to stop their rampage — their former handlers claimed that they were unaware of the couple’s “anti-police sentiments.” That claim is difficult to credit, given that Jerad Miller had a lengthy criminal record, and the fact that the couple had made itself very prominent in protests associated with the Occupy Wall Street movement.This link came from a post by the Dutchman. I'll borrow it whole for those who can't go there:
Jerad Miller, who was mired in the probation system because of narcotics convictions, was precisely the kind of person whose vulnerabilities make him valuable as an informant and provocateur.

According to police, the Millers had cooperated with Nevada law enforcement twice this year to provide witness testimony, but detectives did not receive any indication that the couple had anti-police sentiments.
The reader who forwarded me these links commented: "I guess an informant is the furthest thing you can be from a 3%er. . . Wouldn't it be interesting if someone filed a FOIA request with LE to determine exactly what the Millers 'provided'?"
Yes it would, but that is not necessary for us to draw some interesting questions of our own given the available facts. Let us use an even better chain of logic and facts than that used by the New York state political police in tying the Millers to me and the Three Percent:
1. The Las Vegas PD was in the middle of the conflict with the Bundys.
2. The LVPD is a wholly-owned subsidiary of, and responds willingly to, the corrupt political machine of which the perfumed Mandarin prince Harry Reid sits at the apex of.
3. Since the LVPD intelligence unit knew with excruciating precision exactly what was going on at the Bundy Ranch at any given moment, the fact that the Millers had visited and hung around for a couple of days until asked to leave was certainly known to them.
4. The Millers, while exhibiting a remarkable flexibility of ideology that ranged from the Occupy movement to glomming on to the Bundys, were certainly, consistently and virulently anti-police.
The LVPD then may be properly asked: Did you send the Millers to the Bundy Ranch? What pressures did you put on them to become informants? How much did the Millers resent your pressure to provide information? Who was their control officer and was he a member of the unit tasked to the Bundy situation?
The conclusion one CAN reach, even in the absence of the complete answers to those questions is this: It would be fairer to characterize the Millers as creatures of Harry Reid than "supporters" of Cliven Bundy, or indeed of the Three Percent.

After all the kerfuffle, I went back to try to get some facts we should have had at the beginning. They told me there are roughly 300,000 magazine that carry more than 15 rounds in the state of Colorado already…How’s a police enforcement officer going to tell which is the old one and which is the new one? How much of a difference is it gonna make if there are that many?
Y'know, idiot, it might've been a good idea to find out some of this stuff BEFORE you let some staffer make promises for you. Of course, you were busy kissing Bloomberg's ass instead of listening to all those sheriffs telling you this was a bad idea.

If you disagree with others on strategies for fighting rape, then we can have a discussion. We probably should, because people seem to be talking past each other. I've largely stayed out of this, but as of late there are a lot of people with unsupportable concepts that don't rise to the level of hypothesis, much less theory, telling women what the world should do for them to end rape.

If you don't have consent, it's rape. These are problems that have always existed, and were exacerbated in recent decades due to several factors—young adults 18-21 not being able to socialize with adults around alcohol, lack of chaperonage for those learning how to be adults, failures in both parenting and education.
We can greatly reduce the existence of these type of rape by ensuring otherwise clueless and unfeeling people get a clue and comprehension. Especially as you can look back to a number of movies and other media portrayal where exploiting drunk women is seen as humor.

Considering how much the entertainment industry has invested in pushing the 'Just get laid, anybody who has a problem with it is a right-wing prude' attitudes, wonder how they consider themselves to have no responsibility in the number of said clueless and unfeeling people?

...For those of you following the continuing balkanization of sci-fi/fantasy and the perpetually outraged Social Justice Warrior’s outrage of the week, it was recently revealed that liberal/feminist icon Marion Zimmer Bradley was a pedophile child rapist, with many victims, whose crimes were known about and covered up by elements of fandom… So yesterday the Social Justice Warriors boldly banded together to condemn conservative author Larry Correia for using the word “pussy”.
Better to go read than just get a summary, but short version: Scalzi pulled the now-standard of accusing Correia of saying shit he didn't say, Larry and a bunch of readers called him on it, and downhill from there.
Just to throw into the mix, over at Sarah Hoyt's place is this piece by Cedar Sanderson on the 'men just suck, always have, always will' crap being pushed. Some scary stuff there.

Affiliates of the Iraqi terror group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS, are praising and potentially recruiting extremists based on controversial tweets by a senior Department of Homeland Security (DHS) adviser who recently claimed that ISIL is proof that a Muslim “caliphate” is making an “inevitable” return.
The recent tweets by Mohamed Elibiary, a controversial figure who serves as a senior member of DHS’ Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC), were recently picked up in the Arabic press and widely disseminated on Twitter by multiple Islamic extremists.
Elibiary’s tweets—which disparaged Americans as showing “belligerence” after the 9/11 terror attacks and told of the “inevitable” return of the Muslim caliphate—drew widespread criticism online and prompted calls for his removal from DHS’ advisory committee.
Now the comments are being circulated and praised by Islamic jihadists affiliated with ISIL and Syrian extremists.
The first question would be 'How the hell did this bastard become a Senior DHS adviser in the first place?
Oh yeah.
“For years those of us complaining about Elibiary’s extremist statements have done so to no avail,” Poole said. “The Obama administration has repeatedly doubled-down on their support for Elibiary and recently promoted him to homeland security senior fellow.”
Second question: why is he still there? Besides Obama's weakness for the enemy, that is.

A police officer mistakenly fired his rifle Wednesday morning while in court in front of the judge.
A Miami-Dade Police Officer, according to police, was demonstrating a scenario to a judge on the 30th floor of the Lawson E. Thomas Court House around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
After demonstrating, police say the officer mistakenly fired one shot from his police issued rifle, an AR-15.
Wonder if he dropped the magazine and forgot to clear the chamber? Didn't even bother because "I am an Expert and don't have to worry about such", or what?

Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R., Fla.) and Lois Capps (D., Calif.) have, at the urging of reformed adman Seth Matlins (D., formerly of Creative Artists Agency, Rock the Vote, etc.), offered up a very silly bill to empower the federal government to censor advertising on the theory that the overuse of photo-editing software causes anorexia and other eating disorders. The world being full of stupid people, there is an emotionally incontinent for-the-children petition demanding that the Federal Trade Commission implement this censorship, on top of Mr. Matlins’s earlier demand that advertising in which images have been altered — which is to say, advertising — be labeled to alert beef-witted Americans to the fact of that alteration.

New Project, last mod (updated)
At least for now.
Took it to the range this morning and tried it out and did some sight adjusting.
Part the First: worked flawlessly.
I'd expected it might shoot low, instead it was high. Quite a bit. Dropped the rear sight to the lowest notch and that put it dead-on with the practice load at 30 yards. Did have to drift the rear a bit to the left; it's close enough that I'm not going to mess further with it until make a witness mark or two and have a more-solid rest and better light. Plus some of the full-power hollowpoints want to try it with.
Update: Just struck me why it was hitting so high: when I bent the magazine tube so it would fit into the front barrel band without pulling down on the barrel, it got rid of the downward tension that'd always been there before. Thus it started shooting much higher than before.
I'd wondered about the effect when I changed it, but it'd slipped my mind.
Part the Second: with the magazine spring at original length the tube holds seven rounds, and the last is pretty tight to push in, which brings me to the modification: shortening the spring.
Here's how it looks with tube, section cut off, full-length spring, follower and end cap
The spring is 27" long. I figured put the follower, spring and end cap in, slide the cutoff section on, compress the spring, and mark the part inside the cutoff. Yeah, that didn't work real well(you try juggling the damn things). Which led to this change: leave out the follower
put the end cap on the bottom, tube on top
drop in spring
slide in brass rod
slide on cutoff section
compress spring all the way to the tube end
raise the cutoff section just enough to slide a thumbnail in and catch the spring
remove cutoff, carefully remove spring so I didn't lose the spot, and measure. Immediately.
The part that fit in the cutoff section was 5.5" long(cutoff is 3.5"). I reduced that to 5" even and cut it,
bent the end* to make it level instead of a sharp end sticking down, wiped it all down and reassembled. Which consists of
drop in the follower
drop in the spring
carefully work the spring into the tube
put the end plug on without letting the spring come shooting out
install the screw that locks the plug in place.
Tried it, and it now holds eight rounds and feeds with no problems. Which latter was a great relief since I can't glue a new piece on the spring if it was a bit weak.
One more thing I definitely intend to do at some point is replace that yellow plastic follower with one made of either brass or steel. Read somewhere that someone makes one, if I can't find that I'll make one.
One thing I might do at some point: this stock gives the carbine a 13" pull, which it a bit short for comfort for me; if I can find a stock a bit longer might have to pick one up and fit it.

'New and Improved' Remington ammo test
Couple of days ago had to go by Wally World*, and just out of curiosity went by the ammo case, and Lo! There were .22s there! The 225-packs of Remington Golden Bullet, but still the first .22 I've seen in the wild in quite a while. With 'New and Improved' on the side.
Well, they're far better than nothing, so got two boxes, and today tried them out best way I could think of, with the 15-22.
Reason? I've mentioned it before, that sucker has eaten every brand/type of .22LR I've fed it except the Remington GB. As in somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 of the damn things wouldn't fit all the way into the chamber. And that's from a couple of different boxes bought at different times.
So today I put fifty rounds through. No misfires(a miracle there for Remington bulk-pack), no failures to feed, just bang-bang-bang.
Maybe Remington finally pulled their head out and started doing these right.
*As a guy I know puts it "Sometimes you gotta go to Wal-Mart."

Actually 16 3/8" in the barrel*, now ready to try out.
In the spirit of 'screw with what'll cost the least to replace', the fitting was done on the front sight, not the dovetail in the barrel. Bit of an odd size, all cutters were either a bit too large or too small. Used the closest 'little small' size, then filed the base of the sight till would slip partway in, made sure wouldn't be too tight, then used a brass punch to tap it to center.
Also, as the magazine tube caused a fair bit of downward tension on the barrel when the front band was installed, VERY carefully put a slight bend in the tube so it would slip on nicely. Probably not necessary, but I feel better.
Added: on this mag tube reshaping, when I got to the range I'd expected I'd have to either raise the rear sight or file down the front, since the front sight- now being mounted on a thicker portion of barrel- would be taller. Instead, it was hitting high. REAL high, as in ~5" high at 30 yards. Apparently that downward tension on the barrel had been affecting POI previously a lot more than I thought.
Only 'Aw CRAP!' moment was at the very end: the end of the lever fits into the bolt, a pin locks them together, and there's a screw that goes on the left side of the receiver that locks it in place. Said screw was not to be found. Lesson learned a long time ago: take some masking tape and use it to hold group parts(like lever, pin, screw) together. Lesson reminded of today: check the damn tape before it goes in the trash can, it's easier on the nerves.
Now for time to get to the range with a box of ammo.
*I would far rather find it a touch longer than shorter.
And yes, I CAN twirl it. Part of the function-testing, y'know.

Not so much.
As former Australian politician Tim Fischer turns the shooting of Christopher Lane into an opportunity to push a travel boycott until the U.S. changes its gun laws, police in Sydney launched "a new plan to tackle out-of-control gun violence" there.
According to the Ballina Shire Advocate, "over 9,000 guns have been taken off New South Wales (NSW) streets and 3352 people have charged" during previous operations in the last 12 months alone.
When the anti-rights people admit the truth:
And Mr. Glaze said the movement hasn’t solved one of its signature problems: Many mass shootings wouldn’t have been stopped by tighter regulations proposed by gun-control advocates, even if they might have prevented other gun crimes.

Speaking of reasons not to trust the .gov, we have another power grab by the Dept. of Transportation:
The department is intensifying its battle against distracted driving by seeking explicit authority from Congress to regulate navigation aids of all types, including apps on smartphones.
The measure, included in the Obama administration’s proposed transportation bill, would specify that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has the authority to set restrictions on the apps and later order changes if they are deemed dangerous, much the way it currently regulates mechanical features of cars.
Control. And the car companies are behind it because they want you to have to buy THEIR navigation crap.

It's not called a 'fusion center', but same thing I'd guess. And about as accurate as the crap that came from the FCs.

Come on, the biggest thing they have to tout is the fact that he was editor of the Harvard Law review, even if he published nothing. That means IQ, grades and achievement are all of a nullity or very close. Which – yes, I’m going to be crude here – in an age of political correctness when Harvard would want to give him a “win” (i.e. good grades/honors) just because of his color and his exotic religious background, means he must be something special in the way of dumb.
That is important, to an extent, because it means to the extent he’s in control, we’ll get dunce-moves.
