The naming of that mosque at the 9/11 site 'Cordoba'?

Found where I remembered the reference to that name:
The name "Cordoba" has been marketed to gullible Americans as being a place where Muslims, Jews, and Christians lived in harmony and peace, but actually Medieval Muslim Spain enforced the dhimma and systematically oppressed the Jews and Christians, and was the site of a Muslim pogrom against the Jews in the year 1011 -- 1000 years before this mega-mosque is slated to open.

Maybe enough people caught on to the name's bitter irony, and the deceivers decided it was best deep-sixed.

"Cordoba House mosque near Ground Zero slaps new name on itself with Park51," by Samuel Goldsmith for the New York Daily News, July 14 (thanks to all who sent this in):

Remember the whining at the time about the evil nonbelievers being all bigoted an' all for not wanting a mosque there? Remember this bit?
Joan Brown Campbell, director of the Department of Religion at the Chautauqua
Institution in upstate New York and former general secretary of the National Council of Churches, admitted that a mosque at Ground Zero could anger infidels. But it was worth it, she said: “Building so close is owning the tragedy.”
Makes it plain what the intention is, doesn't it?

Speaking of miserable hypocritical politician whores,

how 'bout that Donald Berwick?
In a special benefit conferred on him by the board of directors of the Institute for Health Care Improvement, a nonprofit health care charitable organization he created and which he served as chief executive officer, Berwick and his wife will have health coverage “from retirement until death."…

If you're in/around the OKC area, I should note

that H&H is having their Dealer Days now through the 17th. One of the things they do is if there's something the dealers have out you'd like to shoot, you can buy a ticket for $3 and get to take the piece and five rounds on the range and test-fire it. I tried a Beretta PX4 Storm in .40S&W. They had two, one with single/double action and this model with DAO. I used the DAO because I flat hate slide-mounted safeties, they're hard for me to reach on most pistols.

Shot quite well, and the design changes the usually snappy recoil of that cartridge to something like a 9mm in most pistols. For CC I'd wish it were a bit thinner, but a nice pistol overall.

Speaking of some of the progressive idiots out there,

And remember, DbD is on the fundraising cycle for the year

As it's 91F, with humidity at 61%,

I'm going to plant my ass here in the shade and check out the news. Like the 10-step program Hanson suggests to Obama. Some problems with it:
1. I don't think Obama is capable of cutting off the racial bullcrap; he lives and breathes it, along with all his buttmonkeys.
2. "The country is pleased and relaxed to see the President relaxing", etc. ad bullshit. Think he actually cares what we think of him taking another golf break or another vacation?
3. "I am appointing what I consider the best people for these positions. The country will come to see that I'm right. How dare you say I should stop appointing socialistsercommunistsuh, progressives to positions of power?"
4. You think he's capable of telling her to stop? Or that she'd listen?
5. See #1; I don't think he's CAPABLE of seeing this country in a good light.
6. He doesn't think the rules apply to him and his; so why shouldn't he be a friggin' hypocrite?
Etc.

The pressure on Holder's DOJ just ratcheted up a notch. Good.

Even more Friends of Angelo in the Senate. That's the 'Most Ethical Congress EVAH!!!, if you'll recall.

Democrats really don't want people getting too good a look at things in the Gulf, do they?
Media outlets such as The New York Times, Columbia Journalism Review, and NPR have written damning reports of the government's unreasonable attempts to limit access to the spill. The New Orleans Times-Picayune was prohibited from flying a plane over the spill so a photographer could get pictures. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., was denied permission to take a boat out to the spill with reporters and examine the catastrophe affecting his state. The Associated Press sent a letter of protest with the White House over the arbitrary restrictions. A CBS camera crew was threatened with arrest for trying to report from a beach affected by the spill.

On Tuesday, responding to the criticism, National Incident Commander Thad Allen lifted the 65 ft media ban for credentialed journalists. But if past is prologue, it's unlikely that we've seen the end of unfair press restrictions in the gulf
.

The wonders of Chicago Politics. Let's not forget Obama pulled the same crap.

So BP is an even more slimy company that previously thought. And they gave how much to Obama, again? And got what considerations, again?

First, anybody who doubts Obama is anti-business(at least business of an actual free enterprise type) is a fool or blinded by ideology. Second,
“The stakes are far too high for us to be working against one another,” the letter from Jarrett and Emanuel said. “That is why we were surprised and disappointed at the rhetoric we have heard from some in the business community.”
would probably translate to
"How dare you oppose us?!? You're supposed to do what you're told! You're causing us problems, and you'll regret it!"

And that's about enough news for now

So Penn State University brass decided to take their credibility

and use it for toilet paper- for someone who recently ate at a Thai buffet- and flush it down the toilet.
The Penn State inquiry exonerating Michael Mann -- the paleoclimatologist who came up with "the hockey stick" -- would be difficult to parody. Three of four allegations are dismissed out of hand at the outset: the inquiry announces that, for "lack of credible evidence", it will not even investigate them. (At this, MIT's Richard Lindzen tells the committee, "It's thoroughly amazing. I mean these issues are explicitly stated in the emails. I'm wondering what's going on?" The report continues: "The Investigatory Committee did not respond to Dr Lindzen's statement. Instead, [his] attention was directed to the fourth allegation.") Moving on, the report then says, in effect, that Mann is a distinguished scholar, a successful raiser of research funding, a man admired by his peers -- so any allegation of academic impropriety must be false.

You think I exaggerate?

This level of success in proposing research, and obtaining funding to conduct it, clearly places Dr. Mann among the most respected scientists in his field. Such success would not have been possible had he not met or exceeded the highest standards of his profession for proposing research...

Had Dr. Mann's conduct of his research been outside the range of accepted practices, it would have been impossible for him to receive so many awards and recognitions, which typically involve intense scrutiny from scientists who may or may not agree with his scientific conclusions...

Clearly, Dr. Mann's reporting of his research has been successful and judged to be outstanding by his peers. This would have been impossible had his activities in reporting his work been outside of accepted practices in his field.

In short, the case for the prosecution is never heard. Mann is asked if the allegations (well, one of them) are true, and says no. His record is swooned over. Verdict: case dismissed, with apologies that Mann has been put to such trouble.

The take from Ace:
Recall that one of the biggest knocks on climate "science" is that it never makes a prediction that can be verified (actually, it does, but they're always wrong), but that "proof" of its veracity comes from the fact that everyone's models agree with everyone else's.

So, in other words, we know the theory is true because people who believe in the theory agree with other people who believe in the theory that the theory is true.

Look, the models they make, based on the same assumptions they agree on, all say about the same thing! Q.E.D. That's Latin for "How my ass taste, bitch?"

Right? So that's a big problem right there. There is no proof of this except that the people pushing it all agree with each other.

Now, if you can believe it (and I still can't; this is stunning) this is precisely the reason they claim that Michael Mann cannot possibly be guilty of scientific malfeasance.

Honestly, if you haven't read this, get ready to catch your falling jaw
.
The Climaquiddick mess was bad enough; to have a university like Penn State throw away any pretense of actual investigation to protect Mann...

I just listened to something fairly disgusting

Happened I hadn't turned the radio off and Hannity was on when I came in. He was talking to some guy who was apparently a bigshot in the civil rights movement in the 60's, and could not get a straight answer to a question:
"If a couple of white guys were standing in front of a polling place wearing white hoods, waving batons and throwing racial epithets at black voters, should they be prosecuted by the Justice Department for voter intimidation?"*
Simple, right? Answer should be 'Yes'. Period.

He wouldn't say that. At all. He kept trying to ask different questions, he tried to talk around it, he tried throwing in "Well, IF this" and "But in the in the past" and anything else he could think of; he would not simply answer that question. And the only conclusion I can draw is Because if he says they should be prosecuted, then the NBPP clowns should be prosecuted, too. And he wants them to get away with their voter intimidation.

I wonder if he doesn't understand or just doesn't care about the precedent being set by this? That the JD will look at cases through color-filtered glasses; therefore that the JD cannot be trusted to impartially enforce the law.

I wonder if he doesn't realize or doesn't care what that crap could lead to?

*Not his exact wording, as close as I can recall

Well, it is one idea...

Found thanks to Moe Lane

Speaking of This Ain't Hell(well, I wasn't actually), it appears that Calumet Park, Illinois Mayor Joseph DuPar is a vile bastard.
“As a Sergeant in the military, I received the Medal of Honor with (4) Bronze Stars for my Leadership.”
Screw everything else; falsely claiming to have been awarded the MoH should cause this clown to be shunned by anyone with a sense of honor. Making that claim and then suing someone for daring to talk about your lies... downright disgusting.

Snork... in observance of Draw Muhammed Day from someone

who doesn't draw.
I'd just like to know how she got The Prophet Woof(pees upon your ankle) to hold still long enough to tie the shemagh...

It's currently 90 degrees

which is not normally bad; but thanks to all that recent rain the humidity is 68 Effing %.

Some of you know what that feels like. Those who don't, you don't want to.

I'd like to drag that idiot Cox down here and have him try mowing the lawn, changing the oil, any of a NUMBER of things for a while and then tell me how horrible a/c is.

It seems appropriate to start this morning with the British government

working to make itself somewhat immune to change:
Right now, the prime minister can dissolve Parliament anytime he wants, forcing new elections. He is also obliged to order new elections if he loses a vote of confidence. This power holds the members of his parliamentary majority in check and restrains them from turning on their leaders since, should they succeed in a vote of no confidence, it would plunge them into the uncertainty of a new election, which would imperil their own seats.

The new rules would bar the prime minister from dissolving Parliament during its five-year term and vest that right in a two-thirds majority of parliament. In other words, Parliament would have to vote itself out of office -- something likely never to happen.
...
More dangerous is the proposed new voting system that must be approved by a popular referendum. Rather than vote for one candidate for Parliament in each district, voters will be obliged to rank the candidates in their order of preference. If nobody gets a majority of first-place rankings, the candidate with the least votes drops off and his second place votes are distributed among the other remaining candidates. The Liberal/Social Democrats are pushing this change in the hopes that there may never again be a parliamentary majority for the Conservatives or Labor and that they will always hold the balance of power in a hung parliament
.
Politicians; corrupt bastards the world over.

AG Holder's buddy Clown Shabazz has friends. I'm guessing friends Holder doesn't like us hearing about.

"WE can record YOU anytime we like; but you can't record US or it's jail!" And a possible response.(pointed to by Insty)

Dumbass tourist, extreme level. Apparently the croc wasn't hungry, or he just tasted bad.

The animal rights weenies show their level of- well, I'll refrain from that language for the moment.
Instead of her beloved pet - bought nine years ago after a bad experience at school - there was an empty hutch and a threatening note, apparently from animal rights extremists.

It read: 'This is animal cruelty. Rabbits should not be left in hutches, they should be out in the wild and socialising.'

Yeah, steal a kids pet and turn it loose; that'll turn out well.

You may have heard the NAACP declared itself a bunch of RWPP thugs by passing a resolution accusing the tea party people of being racists. The response in part:
Whereas, the NAACP had an opportunity to preserve some semblance of legitimacy by standing up for Ken Gladney, the victim of a vicious racist battery conducted by a black avowed communist, even labeling him an “Uncle Tom”, but chose instead to use the opportunity to mock the St. Louis Tea Party, and

Whereas, the NAACP has refused to denounce the New Black Panther’s call to murder white cops and their babies, and

Whereas, the NAACP does its entire membership a grave disservice by hypocritically engaging in the very conduct it purports to oppose,

Now therefore be it resolved that the St. Louis Tea Party condemns the NAACP for lowering itself to the dishonorable position of a partisan political attack dog organization, and,

Be it further resolved that the St. Louis Tea Party calls on similar organizations to join in unanimous condemnation of this despicable behavior, and

Be it further resolved that we demand that the NAACP withdrawal their bigoted, false and inflammatory resolution against the tea party for any further consideration, and
...
Read it all.

The corrupt democratic-media complex is alive and well in America.
Here’s more proof…

Mort Zuckerman, the 147th wealthiest American, editor of US News and World Report, and publisher of the New York Daily News, admitted today that he wrote a speech for Barack Obama
.

Voting fraud? By Obama minions? Big surprise, right?
Ace had a bit the other day saying, basically, 'big deal'; Clinton supporters mad because of Team Obama's actions. What pisses me is that these same people, if it were Obama's people doing this to McCain voters, would quietly cheer it, but they just HATE it happening to them.
A bit more on this at Sondra's place.

A couple of things from RNS:
Anyway, he said the vast, vast majority of folks’ incomes along the Gulf Coast are cash-under-the-table. If BP is faced with a claim for compensation from a fellow with a million-dollar-a-year shrimping operation, but he reported a $20,000 income on his tax return, what’s BP to do?
and
$92.86
That is how much your government gladly spent to help to destroy a firearm.

But it didn’t just help to destroy one.

It helped to destroy 1.4 million of them.

And it gave that money to the UN to do the destroying
.

Switzerland: Land of fine chocolates, precision timepieces and child rape.
Or at least great tolerance for child rapists who are celebrities and commit their crime in the US

Finally, Day by Day is running their support drive.

I shall now see if the garden can be worked without my sinking into it.

Awright, you want cheesy and firearms?

Spend a couple of minutes here.

May be NSFW some places

Damn, talk about Only Ones, British-Style

For five years firearms enquiry officer Maurice Allen was able to trade in guns being handed in for destruction.

On Friday Allen and another officer who also traded guns were given suspended jail sentences, but the trial judge branded firearms control within Durham Police as "lax and chaotic".

With video:
A special BBC Inside Out programme reveals how customers regularly called in to police stations to buy unwanted weapons.
Wonderful, isn't it? When pinned down, the Durham police bigshot boils it all down to "Our procedures weren't as tight as they should have been." Nice excuse for illegally and openly dealing in firearms in police stations, isn't it?

One a demonstration of Democrat "Don't you doubt me!" arrogance,

one a demonstration of media bullcrap.

First, the arrogance:

Found this at Insty; interesting take on his reaction from a commenter. No idea if she's right, but he got downright nasty and aggressive.

The media in this case is the Imperial Valley Press; some discussion both ways in the comments.

From Uncle we have two pieces on Chicago and Shortshanks Daley

having fits. First,
Hard on the heels of yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling in McDonald v. Chicago that the Second Amendment to the US Constitution protects an individual right to bear arms for self-defense and that the right thus protected is incorporated against state and local governments, Chicago Mayor Daley expressed his contempt for both the Court and the citizens whose rights he has trampled.

In an afternoon press conference, Daley announced that the city would enact new ordinances making it as difficult as possible to purchase and own a gun in Chicago. During his rant, he promised to seek ways to attack the right to bear arms from the supply side, vowing to go after manufacturers and crack down on gun shops and gun shop owners. He also noted that only “responsible adults” would be allowed to purchase or possess guns and left open the extremely disturbing question of who gets to determine which citizens are responsible and therefore 'worthy' of civil rights.
...
But as I listened to Mayor Daley equate gun owners with “drug thugs” and chastise the federal government for not doing more to make legal gun ownership more difficult, I found it incredibly ironic. This is the mayor of a city whose 28 year absolute ban on handgun ownership has completely disarmed law-abiding citizens and yet, on a recent weekend in Chicago, with the ban in full effect, there were 54 shootings which resulted in 10 deaths, including a baby girl.
Yeah, but he has the good of the city in mind! All those wounded and dead just prove he only needs to do it again, and harder!his point! Etc.

And on the other, two more lawsuits against Daley & Co.:
On the heels of Benson et al v. Chicago - the lawsuit the NRA and the Illinois Association of Firearms Retailers is bringing - comes another case, Second Amendment Arms et al v. Chicago.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times and court filings, Joseph Franzese, owner of Second Amendment Arms, and Robert Zieman have filed suit in the US District Court against the City of Chicago, Mayor Daley, and other Chicago officials. Second Amendment Arms is seeking to open guns stores in Lincoln Park and on Michigan Avenue while Mr. Zieman is seeking restitution for handguns confiscated under the 1982 handgun ban ordinance. Second Amendment Arms has filed applications for both of these stores with the City Clerk's Office
.
Y'know, Daley must have a full-time flunky just to try to keep the wrinkles ironed out of his undies lately.

No commentary today, as I'm pretty sick of all this crap

Malkin rounds up a lot of the DOJ/Holder malfeasance in office.

Sen. Reid sucks. In multiple ways.

And that's all I've got time or care for right now. Dog food to buy, etc.

Sunday, July 11, 2010

It's hot, it's dinner time, and being lazy I'm just going to point you

to some things of interest.
Like this on Personal Defense Weapons, kind of what the M1 Carbine was intended to be. Looks like they're concentrating on machine pistols with folding stocks in various cartridges.

Anything that starts out Michael Moore is an artistic and intellectual thief is worth reading. Even if it isn't any surprise.

On the McDonald v. Chicago decision:
This focus on African-American history left more than a few liberal commentators scratching their heads. Washington Post columnist Courtland Milloy—who recently said he would like to “knock every racist and homophobic tooth” out of the mouths of Tea Party activists—was shocked by the stirring words of the conservative justice. “This was no muttering from an Uncle Tom, as many black people have accused him of being,” Milloy wrote, perhaps alluding to his own previous unguarded thoughts about Thomas. “His advocacy for black self-defense is straight from the heart of Malcolm X.”
Well, duh, you mush-brained progressive jackass. Thomas never was an Uncle Tom; you were just too bigoted to see him as a real, live human of great capability because he didn't agree with your views.

Effing morons.

Althouse on the current version of the Coffee Party. I'll add in something from Insty on the 'One Nation' name:
UPDATE: A reader writes: “Though this also pops to mind: Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Nation, ein Führer.”

ANOTHER UPDATE: Reader Eric Thompson writes: “Don’t forget the eminently forgettable ‘A New Way Forward’.” Ah yes, with the miserable failure at imitating Tea Party protests. Good times, good times . . . .

And now you'll have to entertain yourselves for a while.

Sounds like the Jefferson County, CO, DA's office

needs to be cleaned out.

Breakables warning in effect.

We have a corollary to Godwin's Law:

I recommend that this be called "Markley's Law."

That has to be some kind of variant of Godwin's Law: As an online discussion of gun owners' rights grows longer, the probability of an ad hominem attack involving penis size approaches 1.
If you're not familiar with Markley(I'd heard the name and forgotten it; just not really worth remembering), I'd suggest reading this.

Penis jokes and slurs, 'teabagger' slurs... These people just have some fascination with other people's genitals.

Son says "Realistic;

it'd never sell."
