we'll be in decent shape.
A federal judge on Monday ruled the U.S. Department of Justice does not
have legal authority to force Apple to develop a program to circumvent
security features on a smartphone related to a drug trafficking case in
New York.
I like this from the judge:
"The relief the government seeks is unavailable because Congress has
considered legislation that would achieve the same result but has not
adopted it," he wrote. "It is also clear that the government has made
the considered decision that it is better off securing such
crypto-legislative authority from the courts rather than taking the
chance that open legislative debate might produce a result less to its
liking."
Exactly.
Like Insty says, now when I hear about some Horrible!Racist!Attack!!, my first thought is "Evidence? Proof? Or it's bullshit."
Audio from two 911 phone calls and video footage of the alleged racially
motivated assault at a New York college has been released, providing
more evidence why the women who made the accusation are now being
charged with false reporting.
There was an assault; they started it, they're the ones yelling names and hitting people. And then
Now some of that footage has been released, but it is difficult to tell what exactly happened. The 911 audio is more damaging, showing one of the accusers saying "I think it's so funny" and "I beat up a boy" before the call connected to a dispatcher.
When the call connected, the accuser then tells the story that
she was "jumped" on a bus and that it was a racially motivated attack.
One of the things that makes me so glad some of my ancestors got the hell out of Scotland.
It’s for the children — or maybe, really, for the child, singular. A toddler was murdered by an antisocial crumb using an airgun eleven years ago, and after a decade plus of wave-the-bloody-shirt publicity (and no further intervening homicides) the Scottish authorities have declared the devices contraband. Owners of the estimated half-million powderless peashooters in the quasi-country have from July to the end of the year to get a permit — which may or may not be issued, at the whim of police, and which requires them to prove, to whichever copper catches gun-ban duty, a “need” for the toy.
From the Dark and Fascist State of New Jersey:
A veteran state trooper alleges in a whistleblower lawsuit she was
retaliated against by her superiors after raising objections that police academy background checks were compromised because of pressure to increase racial diversity among State Police ranks.
...
Jiras claims in her suit that her superiors, under pressure from the
state Attorney General's Office to boost recruit class diversity on
short notice, approved candidates who had been automatically
disqualified for having suspended licenses, criminal affiliations and
active warrants.
Just bloody wonderful, isn't it?

Obviously, this is unpossible: (formerly Great)Britain has laws against all this!
The kind of laws Clinton and Sanders and Obama say would make us safe!
Grenades have become the latest “must have” weapons being sold by underworld arms dealers at knockdown prices.
And a special Mirror investigation has found that the terrifying trade is booming.
Following the killing of two unarmed policewomen in a gun and grenade attack on Tuesday, we uncovered the shocking array of firepower available on the streets today.
The death-dealing “shopping list” includes guns for hire for as little as £100 and bullets priced at anything from £5 to £15.
However could this happen with all those laws?
The source added that weapons and grenades were often smuggled in from abroad, along with drugs.
He added: “A grenade is not the type of thing you stash under a bed or have just lying about. You get one when you need one for a specific purpose.” He revealed that underworld armourers even sell gangs “assassin kits” – including a gun, silencer and bullets for £300.
Damn. It's like those criminals don't care about or obey those laws...

Remember the kid injured when the idiot dropped a flashbang in his crib?
A federal judge has approved settlements totaling $3.6 million to the parents of a toddler who was severely
injured when a flash grenade detonated in his playpen during a 2014
raid.
But guess what?
'Considering that this family was still held responsible for the medical bills is itself a travesty.'
Yep. Not only do the cops involved get off with no punishment(other than being all upset that people don't have the proper amount of feels for them), but the family is paying the medical expenses out of the award.
Wonder if the local citizens out of whose pockets this is coming have anything to say about that?
But guess what?

Yeah, that British National Healthcare System is WONDERFUL!
The mother of a 19-year-old model who died of cervical cancer after doctors failed to allow her a smear test has questioned why her daughter was refused the simple examination.
The NHS scrapped routine smears for under-25s in 2003 over concerns they could do more harm than good.
Note that that says 'routine', not "There's a problem but you shouldn't use this as a diagnostic tool", yet she could not get one.
Amazing, isn't it?

Yeah, there are actual consequences to your "For Cecil!" bullshit
As a mental exercise, let us take fifty thousand US dollars (plus all
the other money, noted above), multiply that number by two hundred
lions, and see how much money the bunny-huggers and the spine-less,
knee-jerk politicians and bureaucrats have kept out of the mouths of
starving Zimbabweans and the game reserve.
That's right, Tofu Breath: those game parks you're dotting your cupcakes over? A large percentage of their budget and operating capital comes right out of the wallets of hunters.
In one fell swoop -- over one idiot furry predator -- you've not only managed to take the food right out of the mouths of the families that have come to rely upon it, but you've also managed to make a significant dent in the operating capital of the park itself.
But the enviroweenies will still run around feeling virtuous; and that's more important than damage to the park and black people in Africa starving, isn't it?
Wonderful: be a 9/11 conspiritard, and "The JOOOS did it!" moron, and the head of the university defends your freedom to speak; be a conservative wanting to speak on other campuses...
Wow. Progress, indeed.

The Defense Minister Eleuterio Fernández Huidobro, is in favor of the population is armed to defend even the government. This is amazing for Latin America. That a major government official, the minister of Defense no less would come out and assert armed population is like Sarah Brady coming back from the death, getting a concealed weapons permit and go on a shopping binge at her local Gun Store.

Considering how his minions police Facebook,
I'm half-surprised Zuckerbitch doesn't have cameras on the wall to catch anyone being insufficiently PC.
Speaking of PC bullshit, where Great Britain used to be ; because the schools are run by PC idiots, and apparently the police have nothing better to do than be PC enforcers.
Farging idiots.
UKIP's deputy leader Paul Nuttall reacted angrily at the suggestion the party's website was flagged in this way.
"I don't know how you can be extremists when you have 22 MEPs, a member of Parliament, three lords and 500 councillors all over the country," he said.
Because you say things and point out things the whiny pussies don't like, that's why.
I've posted this before, but it's worth doing again.
And last, that big minimum-wage hike in Seattle? Not working out real well.

Remember: you don't have to be ripped and low-drag to get the job done.
Many of the civilian hobbyists were much better shots than he
expected. In fact, they were more than good—some of them gave the
special ops warrior a run for his money.
It was a humbling experience—and an awakening for Satterlee.
And last, that big minimum-wage hike in Seattle? Not working out real well.
Forming brass to make one case from another is either
simple and smooth, or a great big PITA. Worst I've ever done was forming .30 Nagant from .223; easiest is a tie between .308 to .338 Federal, and .223 to .300 Blackout.
I'll also throw in, wish I'd known of the lanolin & alcohol method a long time ago.
Speaking of, I'd love to take the .338 out for a spin, but the shoulder's not quite ready for that, I think. Though the most difficult area now is the area around the end of the collarbone where they cleaned it up, not the area of the tear, which seems to have healed up nicely.
Speaking of, still doing the PT stuff but working in something of regular workout stuff, too. Carefully. Regular pushups, for instance, are right out; only leaning-to-the-wall type still. I really need to find a gym that isn't too far away and doesn't want to rape you on fees to join, I think having weights to use would help a lot.

Professor Click is now out-and-out lying (update)
Click told investigators that the student journalist, Mark Schierbecker,
appeared threatening when he approached her inside the perimeter of
protesters.
...
Click told investigators she was concerned that Schierbecker might have a gun because the Missouri Legislature had recently passed a law allowing students to carry concealed firearms on campus.
Slight problems:
Let's step back for a moment. Click allegedly thought the student had a gun, so her response was to bring other students into the situation, possibly putting them in harm's way.
Also, Missouri did not pass a law allowing concealed firearms on campus. A month after the incident, a state senator introduced such a bill.
Liar, liar, pants on fire.
Update: Mr. Day pointed out she has been fired. Guess they could paper over the 'I need muscle' crap(though why would they?), but the extra idiocy pushed them to act.
Speaking of lying progressive assholes, I present the guy who apparently gave Obama & Co. some of their ideas on how to damage the US, the same way he damaged Britain.
I'm not excerpting anything, there's too much on the lies, betrayals, and generally disgusting actions. But then those are what we expect from socialists.

Of course it was; the idea of their august selves actually being held responsible for the crap they do must upset them something terrible.Speaking of lying progressive assholes, I present the guy who apparently gave Obama & Co. some of their ideas on how to damage the US, the same way he damaged Britain.

"It's different when we do it. And don't pay attention to what I did then,
do what I'm telling you now."
But his nomination to the federal bench was dead on arrival at Biden’s Senate Judiciary Committee. Biden refused to even hold a hearing on Roberts’s nomination, much less a vote in committee or on the Senate floor. Roberts’s nomination died in committee and was withdrawn on Oct. 8, 1992. It was only about a decade later that he was re-nominated to the federal bench by President George W. Bush — and we all know the rest of the story.
Roberts was not alone in being denied a hearing or a vote by Biden. According to a report by the Congressional Research Service (CRS), in 1992 Biden killed the nominations of 32 Bush appointees to the federal bench without giving them so much as a hearing.
Let's make this short: NOBODY in DC, in a suit or in uniform, can be trusted.

Everyone Believes in Free Speech But...
Actually I'm happy to debate any expert "climate scientist", yet oddly
enough it's your guys who run and hide. Michael E Mann, David Suzuki and
all the rest decline every opportunity to "shoot Steyn down in flames".
All Mr Leonisky has to do to get his wish is persuade one of his
shrinking-violet climate queens to take the unprecedented step of
agreeing to debate someone who disagrees with them. Imagine that.
Twitters' 'report a violation' form includes
Three guesses what kind of 'disrespectful or in disagreement' is going to be used to ban people?
The University of Michigan-Flint: SJB Central, it seems.
The University of Michigan-Flint has launched a website where "students who experience any form of bias or micro-aggressions whatsoever" can tattle on members of their community.
In a campus-wide email sent Tuesday afternoon (and shared with the Washington Examiner), UM-Flint staff announced the new website and encouraged students, faculty and staff to begin reporting. They can even do so anonymously.
Ok, so use it: every student who's of conservative or libertarian bent who's insulted, belittled, and otherwise made uncomfortable or threatened by some leftist professor or SJW, report them. Every time, every word, every action.
And if the university fails to act on your complaints, that just might give ammunition for a discrimination suit against them.
So Venezuela is now one more socialist paradise with no toilet paper(or much of anything else). And it's our fault, of course.
"We used to produce rice and we had excellent coffee; now we produce nothing. With the situation here people abandoned the fields," says Jesús López, in reference to government-seized land that sits idle. "Empty shelves and no one to explain why a rich country has no food. It's unacceptable," adds the 90-year-old farmer from San Cristóbal, on the western state of Táchira, bordering Colombia.
Well, hell, Jesús, that 'government-seized land' ought to be a clue.
For Oliveros, an additional cause for the shortage of basic food staples is the decrease in agricultural production resulting from seized companies and land expropriations. "More than 3m hectares were expropriated during 2004-2010. That and overvalued exchange rate destroyed agriculture. It's cheaper to import than it is to produce. That's a perverse model that kills off any productivity," he says.
Socialism: working as it always does.
By the way, next time someone starts on the wonderful socialized medicine systems of places like Sweden,
The trend continues, with the English-language The Local reporting last week that "One in ten Swedes now has private health insurance." The site also says, "More than half a million Swedes now have private health insurance," though that seems to refer to the growth in the number of policies, with many more of the country's 9.5 million people actually covered by private insurance.
Why the growth? From The Local:
In a separate article about Sweden's shrinking welfare state, The Local also noted that "visitors are sometimes surprised to learn about year-long waiting times for cancer patients."
You'll note that they've also been cutting WAY back on all the happy-socialism crap; because it was ruining them.
The CDC slipped-up and presented some uncomfortable- for the 'ban guns' people- facts.

If you pack stuff right,
it'll keep for a looong time. Lots of pictures.
Here's an interesting finding from a Latvian forest - five hermetic containers intended for German saboteurs, who acted in the time of WWII in the rear of Red Army. All these seventy years the containers were reliably protected from moisture, so the contents are preserved even better than it could be at a warehouse.

This has been pointed out before,
but it's never a bad thing to remind people of what their god did:
After scrutinizing Roosevelt's record for four years, Harold L. Cole and Lee E. Ohanian conclude in a new study that New Deal policies signed into law 71 years ago thwarted economic recovery for seven long years.
No, I do NOT want Rubio in the Oval Office. First chance he gets, he'd start amnesty for illegals, the bastard.
Big reason so many millenials like the idea of socialism? Because the schools have done two things:They haven't taught them what it actually is, and
They haven't taught history; they've taught the socialist/progressive/communist-approved version.
And what's the local school teaching YOUR kids or grandkids?
All those enviroweenies screaming if some researcher who doesn't go along with AGW gets any money connected in any way from an oil company?
Of the more than 100 climate “experts” signing the letter as of now, 73 are affiliated with U.S. universities, including Harvard, MIT and Stanford, just to name a few.
Of those 73 signatories, 59 of them are affiliated at universities that -- in 2014 alone -- accepted grants worth about $40 million from ExxonMobil.
In 2002, Exxon awarded Stanford University a ten-year grant worth $225 million. One might expect such an award to give Stanford professor Mark Z. Jacobson some pause in adding his name to a petition demanding Exxon not sponsor the AGU -- but he did sign it. Jacobson should forward the AGU letter to Stanford’s Board of Trustees to see what they have to say.
And a real winner,
As federal funding for climate research recedes amid budgetary belt-tightening, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution signed agreements in 2014 to do research for the Saudi Arabia-owned oil company Saudi Aramco. What are Woods Hole researchers doing for Saudi Aramco? They are helping the company find more oil in the Red Sea, of course.
Sheriff Joe, like a bunch of other Democrats, doesn't like having his words brought back up. Especially when they're a problem for what he wants done.

And anybody who expects Dear Leader to actually do anything
other than give a speech and try to otherwise ignore it, is a fool.
The New York Times recently wrote that it is difficult to distinguish between Putin's and Obama's Syria strategies. Meanwhile, historian and journalist Michael Ignatieff and Brookings Institution fellow Leon Wieseltier lamented in the Washington Post, "It's time for those who care about the moral standing of the United States to say that this policy is shameful."
It is very clear at this point that the US has no strategy beyond its half-hearted efforts to provide training and arms to rebels -- and to otherwise rely on negotiations. But none of this has born any fruit, as events in early February demonstrated.
He'll shine the light of his Presence on everything, say some words, his worshippers will swoon again, and NOTHING will actually get done. Because I don't think he actually gives a damn.
Government-run health care: where the patients count for nothing, but keeping the brass happy is everything. And when they're incompetent or criminal, or both, the worst they have to fear is a transfer.
One more reason to close the Department of Education. As if we needed any more.
This administration and all its little friends want someone who loses or has a gun stolen to be treated like criminals; wonder if they'll demand the same treatment for the DHS clowns involved?
Yeah, I know, stupid question.
The letter was prompted after the news website Complete Colorado reported last month that DHS marked 1,300 badges, 589 cell phones and scores of firearms lost or stolen between 2012 and 2015. DHS’s poor firearms security “shows that the department is consistently unable to safeguard sensitive property,” the congressmen wrote.
“The fact that hundreds of badges and cell phones are missing gives rise to a variety of different security threat possibilities,” the letter said. “It is particularly troubling, however, that the department cannot account for its entire inventory of firearms.”
Hmm... I find myself wondering just what all firearms they cannot account for.

watch a unit of Highlanders march by singing, turned to an aide and said "I don't know what they do to the enemy, but by God! they terrify me."

and

Yeah. The journalist, in a public place, 'came at you'. Nice attempt at making him the aggressor.
Our Ambassador to the UN. Well, considering the genocides and mass-murders the UN's been complicit in, she's a good fit.
Ok, so is there ANYTHING that's not 'known to cause cancer' in Californicated?
Well, either the Saudis know something we don't, or the place is run by bleepin' idiots.
Now that I've been cleared by the surgeon for normal activities, I need some good weather and time to get back to the outdoor range. Indoors is fine, it's much closer, but the outdoor has longer ranges. And there's just something right about shooting under open sky.

Have I mentioned that I'm sick to Gods-damned death of bigoted fools
who insist the ONLY reason you can have to oppose Obama- on anything- is that you're a racist?
Or that the only reason anyone opposes Obamacare is 'irrational hatred'?
Or that the only reason anyone opposes Obamacare is 'irrational hatred'?
Who is the JV team again?
American proxies are now at war with each other in Syria.
Officials with Syrian rebel battalions that receive covert backing from one arm of the U.S. government told BuzzFeed News that they recently began fighting rival rebels supported by another arm of the U.S. government.
The infighting between American proxies is the latest setback for the Obama administration’s Syria policy and lays bare its contradictions as violence in the country gets worse.
'Leading from Behind'. 'Smart Diplomacy'. You couldn't make this crap up without being called stupid.
Throw in the CIA apparently being more worried about playing SJW games than in, say, finding out what the hell other people and countries are doing...
20 Signs That We're Not Living In a Patriarchy
You really couldn't make this shit up: "We can't have segregated meetings in a public building? WE'RE HAVING TO MOVE BECAUSE OF WHITE PRIVILEGE!!"
"This post was hurtful and destructive to our campus community. While social media can certainly bring about positive change, it can also be a place that deeply hurts and harms others."
Said the statement by the University of Wisconsin–Whitewaterwhiny grievance-seeking bitchchancellor
about a Snapchat photograph of 2 students who posed in the middle of having a facial that had dark goo spread on their faces. The students
say they just thought it looked funny and had no thought of imitating
black people.
These idiots already have lots of students afraid to say or do ANYTHING for fear some asshole will call them a racist or whatever-ist and try to get them thrown out of school; having officials feed into the idiocy does not help. 'Higher Education' my ass.
'Never talk to a college girl' might seem a bit strong. Then you consider idiocy like the above, and that you can be accused of sexual assault for asking someone out, or saying "You look nice today", or one of her friends can take offense and accuse you. Then 'never' starts sounding better.
