Having survived the day- it was a long one- I shall now

After Trump was elected the first time, he managed to really piss off lots of gun owners
Well, Shooting News Weekly made a list of what all he's been involved in this time, and it's so much better. Not just 'better than Harris would've been', but BETTER. Most lately by the 'The NFA registration list is unconstitutional' ruling, and I'm just as anxious as most everyone else to find out the details from ATF, who've got to be not only worrying about getting majorly sued, but really pissing off a President who doesn't mind pissing on people who do that.
There's been some arguing about the cost of suppressors and SBRs, but I'd bet that, with no NFA crap the companies have to do on them anymore, the cost of at least suppressors will come down. How much? No idea, but I'd bet at least some.
Ref the NFA case, a good piece on "We have questions and Updated
I guarantee you there are gun bigots- almost all leftists- who would love to tell ATF to jail anybody who follows the court order; I also guarantee the ATF, even the "I don't like not having this power" types, who have some understanding of the shitstorm that would hit them if they did. So it's for their own protection as well as that of average citizens that this is demanded.
Assuming various Republicans don't chicken out, there are a bunch of things they can do
I forgot to mention, just in case you hadn't seen, there was no appeal during that 7 days
Did you feel that last night? The Earth moved a little as history was made in Austin, Texas at a little past midnight when two people legally bought suppressors without any National Firearms Act registration or paperwork.
Though the Department of Justice declined to ask a federal judge to extend the stay on his decision that the NFA's registration scheme is unlawful when it comes to now-untaxed items, allowing his injunction to take effect as of today, the department still has nearly two months to decide whether or not to appeal that decision to the Fifth Circuit.
Not asking for the stay to remain in place is a very good sign, but a statement that DOJ does not plan to appeal would be even better. Unfortunately, when given the option to do so earlier today, the agency pointedly took a pass.
So there are questions, and a lot of places aren't selling until they get something on paper from DoJ/ATF saying they can. Which I can't blame them for.
Lots of other questions: Do people who already own a suppressor need to keep the federal paperwork, or can it be destroyed? Can we trust the feds to destroy the registration lists they already have? Etc.
So I'd hold off on building a SBR, things like that, until we have those answers, just to be safe.

Well, crap
My tumbler seems to have died, which is a pain, and the extension I'd used with it appears to be dead also.
Isn't life wonderful at times?
Yes, UPS made it

X can be a pain
and give you a link if you use them.
Or, maybe my browser doesn't work with it anymore. I don't know.
El-Sayed, up in Michigan, has the proper socialist "That right is for the States, not the individual" crap on his mind. No wonder the Democrats like him.
Yeah, this time of year that vent was rather nice.
Madam Hoyt had a link to this. I may have to spend some time looking at her other stuff.
...But I thought we had at least reached a broad cultural agreement: YOUR SKIN COLOR DOES NOT DETERMINE YOUR VALUE AS A HUMAN BEING.
This was one of those concepts I thought we could safely move into the “DONE” column. Apparently somebody reopened the ticket. Every so often I encounter someone online who is not merely saying something I disagree with about taxes or immigration or DEI initiatives or policing or any of the other 14 billion subjects on which people can disagree.
I’m talking about actual racist garbage. The genuine article. The belief that race itself determines intelligence, character, worth, civilization, morality, or where somebody belongs in the human pecking order. And then I look at the followers, and then I see people I know.
Mutuals. People I’ve talked to for years. People I thought were friends. And, yes, that bothers me. I would hope I don’t have to write a 1,000-word philosophical treatise explaining why. If somebody is comfortable talking about how people with my skin color are inherently stupid, inferior, violent, uncivilized, or otherwise defective, and you apparently find this person interesting enough that you want their thoughts delivered directly to your electronic breakfast table every morning, I am going to have some questions.
And how, I have PT to attend. And a few other things after that. Busy day.

So, how many women lost babies
We'll never know.
And Fauci can burn in hell.
Last night, it seems UPS finally found my package
Hopefully.
Oh, I've seen this kind of crap before, now it involves Flock cameras
A Wisconsin woman was pulled over at gunpoint twice in one week after Milwaukee Police Department staff failed to remove a vehicle alert from the Flock license plate camera system.
TWICE it happened.
Years ago, in the NCIC(National Crime Information Center) files there was a BIG problem that cost the city of Los Angeles millions because- again, short version- they found out that the Police Department, after finding out the description they'd used in the original stolen car/wanted person entry, was not valid, they re-entered the stuff WITH THE SAME INFORMATION. Which led to the poor bastard being pulled out of his car at gunpoint several times. When he filed a case, the judge read that, said "You have no excuse after the first mistake" and awarded the guy a big settlement. Now we have effing Flock cameras being used as if they're part of the LE network, and getting people pulled out of their cars at gunpoint. And, similar to the NCIC problem, if people don't make damn sure information is cleared out when it should be, sooner or later some poor bastard pays the price.
And if anyone in this party of “desperadoes” had been accidentally shot, it would have resulted in an “Oops, my bad” response from the cops, no doubt.
Followed by "Hey, Qualified Immunity, you can't sue us for it!" I'm sure.
Oh yeah, I've seen this before.

It's nice when the America hating,
And then they get all upset that you won't let it go.
As Kim notes, we'll see if Mr. Trump is truly on our side in this
Don’t go out and assemble that SBR yet, though. Judge Hendrix put a seven-day hold on his ruling so the Department of Justice can appeal. And the ruling will only apply to the plaintiffs and their members.
But, here’s the part you might not know: The DOJ doesn’t actually have to defend the NFA. They’re under no obligation at all to appeal the ruling.
Sure, career government lawyers usually file appeals automatically to defend federal laws. They see it as their job. But, the DOJ is part of the executive branch, and President Trump is the guy at the top. He’s the one who signed the One Big Beautiful Bill into law that zeroed out the tax in the first place. Just as President Obama chose to have his DOJ decline to defend laws banning gay marriage, Trump can just as easily leave the NFA out in the legal cold and let it starve to death.
All it takes is one phone call to the (acting) Attorney General telling the DOJ to stand down and decline to appeal. In a week, if you’re a member or customer of one of the plaintiffs, you can order a suppressor or build that SBR or SBS. In two months, the ruling will become permanent and future administrations can’t appeal.
You may be thinking about what happens down the road. If the NFA only died because the tax is zero, couldn’t a future anti-gun president just bring it back? Wouldn’t charging even a dollar for transfers raise it from the dead?
Which he then covers.I'm very much hoping for word from our new AG saying "No, we're not going to appeal." Which would both horribly frustrate the usual suspects, and give great relief to many people. We'll see how it goes.
Ah, the wonders of Brit policing,
Also note the language: "An officer approaches him and then restrains him on the ground."
Really? Was there actually some reason for that? Or were you playing your version of 'Respect Mah Authortah!' ?

Don't you love UPS? "It will be here today", followed by (added)
That was yesterday.
Today it still shows ...we are actively working to get you a new delivery date.
And yes, I have advised the shipper, maybe they can find out something.
My only comment on the current women's basketball bullshit
If you did this to someone on the street, your ass would be in jail.
Sports Illustrated’s headline is “Sophie Cunningham got a bitter taste of karma” by getting clotheslined. Sports media is broken. It’s way more left wing than political media.
and
In short this is not a women's sports league. It's a joyless, angry, violent, race obsessed non-stop 2018 Oberlin struggle session filled with entitled lunatics unable to survive without someone else picking up the bill. They whine when they don't get attention, and whine 10x…
And at some point one of the black players is going to seriously injure one of the white players they bitch about, and they'll blame it on whiteness.

Ah, more wonders from that well-run-by-communists city of Los Angeles,
Although there'd be a lot more ankle-biting if they attend the Olympics

They aren't Americans, so they feel perfectly say praying for all Americans to die,
Wonder what punishment they want for pagans?
Ever watch Mythbusters?
They asked one of the many bomb squad people involved if he wanted to be any closer instead of just watching through a remote camera and he said "Explosions like this, I NEVER want to be able to actually see it."
Well, I'd say he was right.
Gentleman named Orr has been passing some news stuff from Europe to me,
Well, considering all the crap that's happened in mainland Europe that the EUnuchs don't want to/won't talk about...
Which brings us to the latest exhibition of idiocy by Swedes:
Major scandal in Sweden after it turns out that MPs from the Left Party (used to have “The Communists”’in their party name until 1989) have been writing letters of encouragement to Palestinian terrorists who mass-murdered Israeli civilians.
Expressen reveals that several Members of Parliament have written letters to terrorists.
I'd bet the explanation involves something like 'But intersectionality says they're the REAL victims!'
If you looked up the mess with the fantasist Arday at Cambridge, you'll not be surprised by this:
He fit all the DEI "He's a miracle!" crap, so the school fell right into it. Which makes them look like the idiots they are. Which brings me to this post:
The more revealing part came when people pointed out that a century-old organization claiming to defend academic freedom for all professors might lose something by becoming an electoral participant in one party’s primary.
Wolfson’s response on X was: “Apparently our first endorsement has upset some people. Good.” He added, “AAUP isn’t going to respond by pretending politics isn’t happening. We’re going to organize.”
In another, now-deleted post, he called the critics “clowns” while straw-manning their arguments against the move.
...
The deeper objection to this move, though, is actually practical. Suppose you are a professor who opposed El-Sayed, or simply does not share the AAUP’s politics, and your academic freedom is violated. Are you really going to bring your case to the organization that has declared itself a left-wing political union and endorsed the candidate you opposed? More likely, you will go to FIRE or the Academic Freedom Alliance, or look to Heterodox Academy for support.
And the damage compounds. Once the AAUP behaves like a left-wing political organization, it attracts more people who want exactly that while driving away moderates, conservatives, libertarians, and anyone else who does not want an academic-freedom organization doubling as a political faction. The membership becomes still more homogeneous in the process. Internal objections get weaker. The next partisan step seems even more obvious.
That is how an organization becomes trapped inside its own box and then mistakes the view from inside for reality.
"WE are on the Right Side of History, WE say so, and anyone who disagrees is obviously a fascist/nazi/fill in the blank with the current favorite insult!" Which is exactly what got Cambridge into looking like the idiots running the place are truly idiots.
Ah, Academia and 'Higher' Education, who knows how much damage they've done?

Just in case you have nothing else to worry about,
By Massad Ayoob, yet. He's written about this before, worth reading.
Things have improved, but
Spotted a web of bagworms in the pecan tree, just about two feet further up than the pruning pole can reach, so used the dolly to bring the ladder around, set it up, and cut the branch they're on and got it down. No more I can spot right now, I'll watch it the next while.
The shoulder is telling me to take it easy, between this today and the bicycle the last few days; the PT was right, that is more wearing on the shoulder than I'd thought. I'll probably skip that today and let it rest.*
Lord, there's a lot of stuff I want to do, but between this and- in a couple of cases- waiting on parts, I can't yet.
*Yes, it's hot and humid outside, but that's not why I'm skipping today, honest.
