If you happen to wander by here, and wonder why the phrase 'common-sense gun laws'
causes so many people to have a fit, just look at the past:
In 1996, the FTB examined and classified a 14-inch long shoestring with a loop at each end. The string was attached to the cocking handle of a semiautomatic rifle and was looped around the trigger and attached to the shooter’s finger. The device caused the weapon to fire repeatedly until finger pressure was released from the string. Because this item was designed and intended to convert a semiautomatic rifle into a machinegun, BATFE determined that it was a machinegun as defined in 26 U.S.C. § 5845(b).
Yes, the BATFE classified a SHOESTRING as a machinegun.
So we remember things like that, and the thought of a bunch of gun bigots passing 'common-sense gun safety laws' gives us shivers.

One step closer to the Slammers
Trophy works like a mini Iron Dome, another Israeli wonder weapon that
intercepts and neutralizes short-range rocket threats, like Russian GRAD
rockets, from the skies. It utilizes a combination of sensors and radar along with fire control technology and intercepting pellets to detect and neutralize incoming missile threats. A secondary feature
enables the Trophy to accurately determine the source of fire and
transmit the coordinates to nearby ground and air units through the
Tzayad battlefield management system. All friendly units in the theater
are instantly apprised of the enemy’s position making escape and evasion
difficult.

ALFRED MACDONALD: Would it really get me fired to say that I could be killed somewhere?EVE BROWNING: In that situation as you’ve described it, absolutely yes.ALFRED MACDONALD: How?EVE BROWNING: Don’t even ask. It’s clear you’re not taking my word for it. I don’t care to convince you. If I can’t persuade you that it’s in your interest to behave in ways that other people don’t find offensive and objectionable, then at least I’ve done my job.ALFRED MACDONALD: Well I know that it’s in my interest. I’m just trying to understand the reasoning.EVE BROWNING: You don’t have to.ALFRED MACDONALD: Well, this is a truth[-]seeking discipline!
And how did the philosophy professor respond to this perfectly factual, utterly appropriate observation? She laughed.

Further proof that the Brady Group is- at best- run by igorant fools, and at worst lying bastards
If you're not familiar with the AR platform, that picture shows a buffer tube, spring, buffer, receiver end plate, and locking ring; they're not a 'conversion kit', they're part of almost every AR-pattern rifle in the world.
This being from part of the Brady lawsuit against SlideFire(because they're not only blood-dancers, they're ambulance chasers), I have to go with 'lying bastards'.

Ok, so what the hell is going on with this story?
Police have dramatically changed their account of how the Las Vegas massacre
began on Oct. 1, revealing Monday that the gunman shot a hotel security
guard six minutes before opening fire on a country music concert —
raising new questions about why police weren’t able to pinpoint the
gunman’s location sooner.
And
Lombardo also revised the date on which police believe Paddock checked into Mandalay Bay. While initially they said he had checked in on Sept. 28, three days before the shooting, they now believe he checked in on Sept. 25.
Maybe I just don't understand how it works, but how the HELL do they not know when he checked in? Clerks, cameras, charge records?
This mess just keeps getting squirrelier...

The cry of the chief gun bigot/control freak:
"No law would have stopped this, but we need more laws anyway!"
Because it's not about safety, or crime, it's about control. Like it generally always is.
Speaking of power,
One of the refrains you hear today from media experts and journalists is that they’d known about Weinstein’s transgressions for a long time. The problem, they say, was that no one was able to nail down the story.
Nonsense. Everyone had it, not just Waxman. Sure, reporters hadn’t been able to get any stars to go on the record. But that means the story journalists were pursuing wasn’t really about Weinstein’s sexual depredations. It means that what they wanted was a story about actresses, junior executives, or assistants who had been humiliated, maybe raped, and chose to remain quiet in exchange for money and/or a shot at fame.
Of course no one was going to get that on the record—very few journalists would even want to publish a story like that. But journalists always had the actual story of how a Hollywood producer humiliated and sexually assaulted women. How? Because he victimized journalists.
He spread lots of money around, had lots of connections, and so he kept getting away with this crap. Speaking of connections, I'd love to see a list of how many politicians he gave money to, and how much; we already know about his Clinton connections, what about the others?

There's no mention of whipping posts or nooses,
but at least the bastards were indicted.
What kind of effing idiot do you have to be to think that a badge means you can do whatever the hell you want? And then claim "The school OK'd it, so we're all good"?
What kind of effing idiot do you have to be to think that a badge means you can do whatever the hell you want? And then claim "The school OK'd it, so we're all good"?
That is a very interesting statement
"We're pretending we're having a debate about gun control," Mollie said,
"but we're really having a debate about the nature of evil and whether a big enough government can contain it."
I think that's, if not 'it', then a very big part of it. Because a lot of people somehow think that if the .gov has enough control, then such bad things won't happen anymore. They ignore history, because "It will work THIS time."
No, it won't. Because it never has. All you'd wind up with is a government with control over everything, smashing your liberties, and the bad guys still doing bad-guy stuff. Except now you won't be able to fight them because you gave up the means in the name of- control? Pretending you're doing good? Pretending the bad people won't be bad anymore?
You also wind up with people like that hypocritical, corrupt bastard Charles Rangel in control of your life.
“Law-abiding citizens just shouldn't have to carry a gun,” Rangel added. “You're not gonna push me in that direction.”
But when the Daily Caller reminded Rangel that he and other members of Congress are protected by armed U.S. Capitol Police, he revealed his true feelings on the subject.
“Well, that's a little different. I think we deserve — I think we need to be protected down here,” the Democrat admitted.
'WE need to be protected'. Because politicians are more deserving of protection than the commoners. Because having someone else carry a gun for you is somehow SO much better than carrying one yourself.
Also, note the wording: Law-abiding citizens just shouldn't have to carry a gun. It's not a matter of 'have to', it's a matter of they don't get a choice because clowns like Rangel won't let them. Because "The police will protect you(but I don't actually believe that, which is why I get special protection)."
Bastards and control freaks. You actually WANT them controlling your life? Then you're a fool.

Ok, finally: the Gunsite Lowered Safety
I'd been thinking about doing this for quite a while, and finally ordered one from Brownell's. They've got blued steel or stainless, since the frame is stainless I went with that.*
The reviews mentioned that the surface needs finishing, and it certainly does. I used some 240-grit wet/dry paper to clean up the surface, then some buffing compound and a felt wheel on a rotary tool to polish it a bit.
Extended safety had before on the left, new one on the right
The thumb shelf is a lot lower than the original design.
Note: I had to do some finish work on the back as well, as it was a bit uneven.
On the fitting, it took very little to make it work properly, probably spent as much time smoothing the back as I did fitting the safety lug. Here it is installed
I put it through the usual tests to make sure it worked properly mechanically. So how's it work with my hand? Very well. That lowered shelf is MUCH easier to manipulate with my messed-up joints, both moving it to off and on. I do have to shoot with my thumb resting on the shelf, as if I try it with my thumb under it bumps it up enough to safe the pistol. Since that's the way I started off shooting these, no problem for me. Also, some people had said they'd had to remove a little material from their left grip to clear the lever; it moves over the Crimson Trace grip with room to spare.
So I give this a definite thumbs-up. If you have small hands, or the same arthritis problem I do, I'd suggest you consider getting one.
Remember: unless the thing drops in and works correctly(sometimes they will), then some fitting WILL be required, and if you're not certain about how to do it and your ability to, take it to your friendly gunsmith; you do NOT want to try this unless you're sure of how and your ability to do it.
*Wilson Combat also makes one in blue, but from the pictures the shelf isn't as low(which might make it just right for you, that's your decision).

I do have a report on the new grip safety,
but it'll probably have to wait 'till Sunday. Let's just say 'busy' for now.
It works. More in-depth report to follow.

'Higher' Education in Missouri
The guidelines, broken up into six sections of “who, when, where, why, what, [and] how,” offer students an examination of sorts for “how to think inclusively when planning an event,” listing dozens of questions they should ask themselves during the planning stages.
“If my event is potentially triggering, have I consulted with someone from the counseling center or have a counselor present?” one question asks, followed by another that implores students to consider whether “a ‘safe’ or ‘brave’ space” is necessary for the event.
Another series of questions deals with appropriate advertisements for events, warning students to be “conscious of the colors and how they can be exclusionary or stereotypical” while considering if the language used on advertisements “can potentially be bias [sic].”
And so on.
It's like they want to FORCE people to consider everyone too weak and vulnerable to deal with- well, anything.
And in Texas,
The president of the University of North Texas personally attempted to derail a scheduled talk by Donald Trump, Jr. months prior to his scheduled appearance in late October.
According to emails obtained by The Dallas Morning News, UNT President Neal Smatresk admitted that he was “trying to stop” the $100,000 speech from ever taking place on campus, saying he was “not enthused” about the invitation but had little recourse available because the event is being funded by private donors.
Meaning "If it wasn't for private donors paying for this, we could shut him up."
A big Clinton supporter says 'The Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy is after me!'
Well, that is a lot better than admitting "I'm a woman-abusing asshole and the people found out!."

You're forgetting something, genius:
the reason there's a boost in sales after some nasty event is that people like the Greatest Gun Salesman Ever Obama, and Pelosi & Co., start calling for 'Ban all the things!' before they even know exactly what happened, and it spooks people.
And that "The NRA is a terrorist organization!" shit is old. And it doesn't just turn people off listening to you, it pisses them off. Not that you care.
"It's ok for her to call people white supremacists, because her feelings." That's what passes for thought at Disney nowadays.
Yes, a bunch of people knew what this clown was. And did nothing. No telling what all he's been up to.
Damn.
Four former Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) operatives face federal corruption and conspiracy charges after allegedly engaging in all sorts of shady behavior, from selling drugs themselves to lying under oath, falsifying records, falsely identifying drug suspects, accepting bribes, and stealing cash and other property from the people they arrested. In at least one instance, their behavior led to someone being wrongly imprisoned for more than two years.
On to Vegas, and what?
Additionally, we have multiple leads across the United States and all across the world for our legal industries determining the whereabouts of the panel of the people involved in this investigation, and that leads grows. A lot of these leads will go nowhere but we have to follow them, and that’s going to take some time,” Rouse said.
Even for a federal official, that's an amazing accumulation of words. Then there's this:
...The fundamental trust of the American people and the FBI is based upon our discretion–and how good would that discretion be if we were to provide information that they provided to us in confidence?”
In case you haven't noticed, oh Very Special Agent, 'trust' isn't something an awful lot of people have in the EffingBI anymore.
But multiple leads across the United States and all across the world is interesting. Could be a general ass-covering "We're checking EVERYWHERE!", but might not. Then we have this from the Sheriff:
Clark County’s top cop said he still believes Paddock must have had some help along the way.
“Because look at this, you look at the weapon, obtaining the different amounts of Tannerite (explosives) available, do you think this was all accomplished on his own?” he said.
“You got to make the assumption he had to have some help at some point.”
So, do they actually have something, or is this just the Sheriff thinking "There must be someone else involved!" ?
Connected: Williamson deals with an idiot who said "...the Vegas asshole had "more powerful and deadly weapons than even the military! ZOMG!"

BRM has a post on the murderer
and it boils down to "What the hell?" Based on his background and that of others he knows, LOTS of questions about this. He's got links to a guy who's been going over things, one of his ends
Either this guy is the biggest civilizational mole in history, or we're being fed a wall of bullshit big enough to hide an aircraft carrier.
Absolutely nothing about this guy is what it should be.
The last time I read something this far-fetched, that didn't add up this much, the guy was named Clark, and the author's name was Tom Clancy.
What's really going on here?
I'd suggest going over and reading them. What they're coming up with makes this whole thing stink like the dead catfish remnants Security Staff(Sr.) once managed to roll in.
Added: On the other hand, John Ringo thinks it might well have been a bad drug interaction(Facebook link).

Well, no crap, guy
The American political left and mainstream media pundits at large do not understand guns. They are not educated about
them and they refuse to learn about them. They could not tell you the
difference between an automatic or semi-automatic firearm. They don’t
understand what a suppressor does or does not do. It’s safe to say most
of them have not heard the term “bump stock” until this week.
They're also ignorant of what laws are already on the books, and how stupid many of them are. And they don't want to learn; those that might mostly still lie. Because they're spreading the Preferred Narrative© so they know that most media won't call them on any of it, even if they know it's bullshit; because so much of the media is in the Preferred Narrative© camp as well.
And they wonder why so many people consider them inept and/or ignorant at best, and the enemy at worst...
Hey now, if bigoted, ignorant celebritutes had to be honest
they'd lose a lot of their audience. And look like what they are. Can't have that.
Such is the case with your recent missive on gun control after the Las Vegas massacre, what the Washington Post called an “emotional, scathing monologue,” but might better be styled “a deeply misguided and ignorant rant about a topic which Jimmy Kimmel appears to know very little.”
But feels. He has lots of feels.
You claim, for instance, that Republicans Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan “won’t do anything about” the United States’ gun violence problem because “the NRA has their balls in a money clip.” This is a staggering accusation—that high-ranking elected officials are ethically compromised and financially beholden to a private advocacy organization. Is this true? Do you have evidence to back it up? As a matter of fact, you don’t (one assumes you would have provided it on-air if you did). So I did a little research for you.
One has the image of retreating from the word 'research' like a vampire from a piece of the True Cross. And bullshi- ah, staggering accusations are a favorite of his.
Speaking of bullshit accusations,
Mr. Kimmel, you also level an incredible charge at President Trump, claiming that “in February, he…signed a bill that made it easier for people with severe mental illness to buy guns legally.” This is a gross and intellectually shameless distortion of what that bill actually accomplished.
The rule change Trump authorized in February did not, as a policy, “make it easier for people with severe mental illness to buy guns legally.” Rather, it repealed a law that forbid “[Social Security] beneficiaries with mental impairments who also have a third party manage their benefits” from buying firearms.
So grossly unfair was this law that it was opposed not only by the NRA but by “the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities, the Disability Law Center of Alaska, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the National Association of County Behavioral Health and Developmental Disability Directors, the National Association for Rights Protection and Advocacy, the National Association for Rural Mental Health, the National Council on Disability, the National Council of Independent Living, the National Coalition of Mental Health Recovery, the National Disability Leadership Alliance, the National Disability Rights Network, the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services, and Safari Club International,” as well as the American Civil Liberties Union, the American Association of People with Disabilities, the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network, and numerous other advocacy organizations.
And so on.
Kimmel's one more leftist celebritute who shows his feels for applause, and doesn't give a rat's ass about facts. Because they get in the way.

"Free speech? We don't allow that here."
(formerly Great)Britain:
The United Kingdom is responding to its severe terror threat with a proposal of lengthy jail sentences for anyone who views “terrorist content” online.
Specifically, sentences of 15 years in prison for such an offense.
But what might constitute terrorist content? According to British Home Secretary Amber Rudd, that concept includes “far-right propaganda.”
And 'far-right propaganda' will wind up being 'anything we don't approve of or like'.

Nice when they admit what they really want
It's interesting to see how many on the left are now- openly- calling
for dumping the 2nd Amendment, openly calling for the confiscation of
all privately-owned firearms, and openly saying that anyone who
disagreed with/resisted confiscation should be killed.
Some of them are positively gleeful about the killing part.
Oh, they don't plan to do it themselves, oh no; they plan on .gov minions to do it for them. Because they're all about killing their opponents as long as they don't have to get their own hands dirty.
It's kind of amazing how many of these people follow the Stalin thought of 'have to break eggs to make an omelette'. And very uncomfortable for those eggs they plan to break.

It's kind of amazing how many of these people follow the Stalin thought of 'have to break eggs to make an omelette'. And very uncomfortable for those eggs they plan to break.

Thinking about some of the leftist/racist idiocy on display the last couple of days
of the 'Gun ownership in this country is based on white supremacy/racism' type...
Pointed out to someone pushing this(among other crap) that the fastest-growing groups of new gun owners are women and minorities, and they were sad: "I don't want my people getting guns", basically.
Yeah. Because being unarmed is such a wonderful thing. Mind you, this is someone who also flat hates Trump, but wants the government he heads to have a monopoly on use of force. What level of genius do you class that as?
There's an older black couple that comes into the range regularly, and they're a joy: they know what they're doing, they're safe, the only problem we have at times is "Five minutes to close, you have to pack up now." The 'white supremacy' clown would find that sad; I find it wonderful; they're doing something they both enjoy, and I think if someone of criminal mindset decided to mess with them it will prove a serious failure in the victim-selection process.
I provided a couple of links, including Cramer's Racist Roots of Gun Control, to point out just where the 'Let Not The Commoners Have Arms' push has generally come from. Haven't seen a word since; don't know if they're reading or dismissing me and all data as part of that supremacist movement.
It's a weird mindset that sees EVERYTHING through the prism of racism.

Since we're hearing the "More gun laws, we need them!" crap again,
I'm going to post this link to Larry Correa's piece on the subject, written after Sandy Hook. He covered it all then, and it's still valid.
Ah, government-run health care...
Days after Justin Trudeau told the United Nations that his government was working hard to improve the quality of life for indigenous peoples in Canada, it has emerged that his government spent more than C$110,000 in legal fees to avoid spending C$6,000 on orthodontics for a First Nations teenager suffering from chronic pain.
The figures, released through the Access to Information Act, were made public by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on Friday. They relate to a continuing court battle that has pitted the federal government against Josey Willier, a teenager from Sucker Creek First Nation, who for two years complained of chronic headaches and jaw pain stemming from an impacted tooth and a severe overbite.
But don't worry, you'll come to love it, won't you?

Just saw someone blaming 'the rabid fans of gun manufacturers
and the NRA' for gun laws not being properly changed(you're welcome).
Also that White Privilege and Racism is what's really behind it all.
I wonder if he knows who the McDonald in 'McDonald vs Chicago' was? Or would he just be a tool of White Privilege?

Ah, CBS, such classy people you have in high positions
“If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope
that Repugs will ever do the right thing,” wrote Geftman-Gold on
Facebook, perhaps referring to Sandy Hook. “I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters.”
And let's not forget
CBS has a history of hostility towards Republicans. Shortly after the attack on the GOP congressional baseball team gravely injuring Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise in June, former CBS anchor Scott Pelley questioned whether the shooting was “foreseeable, predictable and to some degree, self-inflicted.”

Not saying anything about the Las Vegas attack as yet
because I know damned little. Apparently neither does the media, but that's not stopping them, or the Usual Suspects of "Ban the things!" mindset. Also a bunch of media yelling "No connection to terrorism!", though how they'd know that...
Saw somewhere that the suspect's Bookface page had been taken down, no idea what was on it. We'll see what comes out.

Meanwhile, in Canada,
At a 3 a.m. press conference this morning, Edmonton officials said that two separate but apparently related incidents last night are being investigated as "acts of terrorism."
Seem to be following the current European method of knives and vehicles. Also
The terrorist has now been identified as Abdulahi Hasan Sharif, a Somali national who was granted refugee status in Canada. Like most such terrorists, he is a “known wolf.”
Big surprise, right?
What're the local terror-minded communists up to?
Conservative students at the University of California, Berkeley have been actively stalked and targeted by a regional Antifa organization known for inciting violence.
While the Berkeley College Republicans met at a local restaurant Wednesday evening, Berkeley Antifa took to Twitter to post the exact location of the student group online.
Creepy at the least. Unfortunately, we're not dealing with the 'least':
“Conservatives in Berkeley are routinely targeted, harassed, and stalked,” he told Campus Reform. “Knowing that they have sympathizers within both the city administration and university administration, leftist groups will continue to target conservatives as they know there are no consequences to their actions.
“It has become socially acceptable in Berkeley to physically beat someone for being a conservative,” Tahmas added. “In fact, it is even encouraged.”

What 'PC no matter the cost' leads to
Reporter met with female family members of some of the rape gang members in Britain. Part of the problem:
Even now white girls, many from troubled homes, are being violated by men who profess to be good Muslims. Such are the explosive racial and religious implications that, to our shame, many refuse to face the problem.
Look at what happened to Sarah Champion, Labour MP for Rotherham, who was sacked from the shadow front bench for saying just this. Or take the case of Amina Lone, a Muslim councillor from Birmingham, who rightly defended Champion but was then told she cannot stand for re-election.
Yes, sexual predators come from all classes and races. However, in organised group rapes, such as those in Rotherham and Rochdale, the issues of race and ethnicity are undeniable. They must be addressed.
But a disgusting number of people in government don't want to address it; muslims are a protected species in their minds, and just about any criticism of a muslim- even a serial rapist- is in the 'racist' category. They'd rather see more victims than openly deal with the problem.
Then you get to the descriptions of what these men were like at home, to their own families... it's bad. Very.
It will be a long time before I forget the three hours of emotional chaos, disorientation and pain that followed. I learned that they, too, had been subject to despicable sexual abuse. But I also discovered that, trapped in a world of obedience and ignorance, too many also blame the white teenaged victims for leading their abusers on.
...
But bit by bit, they opened up, describing a world of loveless sex on demand, of domestic violence, routine debasement. ‘He did it hard, it hurt,’ said Nusrat. ‘It was always painful. He say I am his toy. I say no, he pushed me down, made me cry. He was like a dog.’
End of the piece has this:
2. 'We need research on why'. Oh, hell, we KNOW why: they were acting in a nice, old-fashioned 'Unbelievers are trash to be treated as we wish' muslim way. If you don't acknowledge that, you're not dealing with the major part of the problem in this.
3. 'women are not white or brown flesh to be consumed at will' See #2:they were taught, and believe, that that's exactly what women are, especially non-muslim women. When you've got people specifically teaching their kids that, you either deal with that or you can't really deal with it at all.
In the end, muslims in Britain- and other places- are going to have to be the ones to deal with this, because I doubt anyone else can. Either they'll change how they teach their children, or this crap will continue. And the long-term damage of it, well, we really don't want to wind up there.

End of the piece has this:
Muslim activists fear talking about the
abusers encourages racism. They may be right. But the grooming gangs are
responsible for much greater racial hostility. Progressive Muslims must
make this crime socially unacceptable. The communities which shelter
and defend these men must be confronted. We need research into why a
disproportionate number of Pakistani Muslim men in Britain commit this
crime as well as offer compulsory re-education for those who have been
locked up.
These predators – and the
wives who seek to justify their behaviour – must understand that women
are not white or brown flesh to be consumed at will.
1.Finding out that the authorities KNEW this was going on and did nothing(because 'racism') did far more damage than the fact that the gangs were muslim; that would probably have gone down as "Those bastards are getting what's coming to them!" IF this had been dealt with from Day One; but it wasn't. And that made the mess- hell, IS making the mess- far worse.2. 'We need research on why'. Because a lot of 'anti-fascist' protesters are friggin' idiots
In perhaps the most revealing moment of the entire video, Fletcher drops in on a crowd of leftists chanting
“Nazi scum!” at a guy. Fletcher is eventually able to figure out who the
target of their anti-“Nazi” chant is: It’s a man wearing a MAGA hat.
When Fletcher asks the Indian man if he’s a Nazi, he says, “No, I’m not. … I’m Indian.”
“That doesn’t make any sense then,” says Fletcher.
“Yesterday, they called me a white supremacist,” says the Indian Trump supporter.

That SJB librarian who turned away books because 'Trump' and
because 'Dr. Seuss is racist!' ? Appears she only came to that conclusion now, because a while back
As Iowahawk put it It was a surprisingly short journey from Robert E Lee to Dr Seuss
