While cleaning I ran across something that's on my Grail list that doesn't involve boomsticks

Once upon a time some friends made a long-desired trip to Scotland.  When they came back they brought with them, among other things, a case of this

of which I got three drinks over the weekend.  Which put it permanently on my list.

Oh, my Lord, that stuff is good.  And they only exported it to Canada, from which I couldn't get it shipped here.  So, a few years later, when son was stationed in Washington he mentioned it would be easy to make a trip across the border.

Then he checked for it before he went, and discovered they'd stopped exporting it at all.  Which means the only way to get any would involve a trip to Scotland.  Which would not be a bad thing, except for the expense.

So I'm hoping that someday they may export some again(though Deity knows what it would cost), because I still remember how good it was.

Getting old is generally fairly easy*;

being old tends to suck.

Due to some of the catalog of aches, pains, and accumulated damage and wear, it's harder to do a lot of things than it used to be, and I can't do as much of them.  Which sucks.

One of them is I'm not as tolerant of cold as I used to be, since it tends to emphasize the aforementioned aches and pains.

Right now it's cloudy, and cold, and real humid; the rain they predicted hasn't happened(yet) but the moisture is still out there.  And I'm so far behind on cleaning/organizing the house, I think I'll stick with some of that.  After turning the heat up a bit.


*Few days ago I counted up the various ways that, not that long ago, I'd have wound up crippled or dead over the years if not for modern medicine; it's both wonderful that it works, and depressing I've needed that much of it.

People who thought antifa and BLM and general anarchist idiots burning, looting, beating, killing, and attempting mass murder was just fine because 'Justice' and 'Free Speech'* are having conniptions at this 'attempt to destroy/take over the country', etc.(maybe they object to protesters who aren't stealing, killing, and destroying historical works?)

I've said before that to the left political violence is a knob that can be turned up and down, from blocking traffic and rioting and arson all the way up to murder. But generally the right has thought of it as a switch that goes from Vote to Fucking Kill Everybody.

Only today it appears that a whole bunch of people on the right are trying out that knob.

Yes, they are. I imagine there will be a huge number of people screaming "It was DIFFERENT when WE did it!", and not liking it when asked "How?  Other than these people not looting, burning, blinding, and generally destroying everything in sight?"

*How trying to burn down a building with people in it counts as that I do not understand

With great pomp and circumstance, he closed his prayer by invoking “the monotheistic god,” Brahma, and the god who supposedly goes by many names. He then concluded with the most asinine thing I have ever heard. He ended with “amen … and a-woman.”

Don't ask me, I'm still wondering.  It was so jammed-up we couldn't get the floorplate off, had to use a screwdriver to pry one out, then was able to get the others.

While later, guy comes out: "My M&P is jammed.  We chambered a round, it wouldn't fire, and now we can't get it to open."  Grab muffs, go to see.  Finally managed to get the slide back, but the round was stuck in the chamber; had to use a rod and some tapping to get it out.  Which gave us a round with no primer and "What the hell?"  Bit of cleaning and looking gave us

one round of Winchester white box with no flash hole.  The primer had fired and driven the case forward, jamming it in the chamber.  That was unique.

End of the week, and it's been a looong day

When Rush Limbaugh moved out of New Effing York, the idiot currently Mayor said "If I'd known that was all it took to get rid of Limbaugh, I'd have raised taxes years ago."  Someone at one of the papers did a piece pointing out what an idiot the Mayor was, including "You know how much he paid to the city last year, counting up all the taxes and fees?  Now it's all gone, and you think it's funny."  Then, when lots of rich people started getting out of the city and state because of the raising taxes and the idiot Wuhan rules ruining the restaurant/theater/museum/social reasons they'd kept living there, Comrade Mayor said 'good riddance'.  Now they're losing all that tax income, and anyone in city/state government with a brain is wondering how much they can raise taxes on everyone else before the mobs start hanging politicians and bureaucrats('not nearly soon enough', I'd say).

It started raining, was still just rain when I went to bed,

then some freezing rain and then snow.  A few inches worth, the streets are either packed or- where there's been traffic- slushy.  Supposed to hit 37 for the high, so a lot of that will be gone by evening.

Now I must fortify myself to go out in it.  This should be fun.

Shea Martin on her Twitter account, that has now been restricted to those who do not follow her already, said in June:

Heather Levine, a ninth-grade English teacher at Lawrence High School in Massachusetts, replied:
“Hahaha …. Very proud to say we got the Odyssey removed from the curriculum this year!”

And the administration is too chickenshit to handle questions:
Gurdon contacted Levine to confirm that the school removed the Odyssey from the curriculum, but was told her inquiry was “invasive.”

The English Department chairman of Lawrence Public Schools did not return Gurdon’s multiple requests for comment.
