I could have started this with the Dodd story, but I thought

he deserved mention all on his corrupt own. So I'll open this with Since the clowns in DC don't want to enforce the borders, this kind of thing happens and causes states to say "Screw you, DC, we'll do something ourselves."

Pinal County sheriff’s Lt. Tamatha Villar says the deputy suffered a superficial wound to his abdomen after being shot with an AK-47 assault rifle Friday afternoon.

Villar says the deputy was doing smuggling interdiction work and found bales of marijuana in the desert. He then encountered five suspected illegal immigrants, two armed with rifles, and was shot.

At last check, the suspects were shooting at police helicopters in hot pursuit. More from CNN:

Pinal County is located between Phoenix and Tuscon and has been described as a key transit point for illegal immigrants. Sheriff Paul Babeu told CNN that an estimated 80 percent of illegal immigrants eventually pass through his county along the way to other locations.

Considering this is drug smugglers out of Mexico from the sound of it, they might actually have real AK47's; what was that crap about 'guns being smuggled INTO Mexico from the US'?

Be interesting if it turns out the National Inquirer is doing the reporting the professional major media won't do. But then, as Insty says, When was the last time they got one of these things right? . . . .

Free Speech wins one against sharia, but it took a threatened lawsuit to get the bus weenies to honor their contract.
On April 13 our ads began running on Miami buses. On Friday, April 16, after CAIR complained, Miami-Dade Transit pulled our ads. The reason? Karla Damian, a spokesperson for Transit, said they might be “offensive to Islam.”

It was an outrageous denial of our free speech rights, and a stunning capitulation to Sharia. Even worse, it was a blatantly inconsistent application of Miami-Dade Transit’s policies: CAIR and other Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups ran campaigns on buses across the country last year, including Miami, inviting people to convert to Islam and claiming that Abraham, Moses, and Jesus were Muslim prophets. Miami-Dade Transit allowed the CAIR bus ads, despite how offensive they were to Jews and Christians.

In December 2008, the Miami Herald ran a glowing piece on the CAIR bus ad campaign, which ran in Miami-Dade and Broward counties for eight weeks. No one took offense, despite the Islamic supremacist nature of the ads. No one breathed a word of protest.

It was important to counterbalance this offensive appropriation of the founding figures of Judaism and Christianity and outright deception with a healthy message. But although Miami-Dade Transit had no trouble with CAIR’s offensive message, they found our defense of religious freedom unacceptable

'Citizen Gore', hehehehe...
Famed in American legend is the origin of the Gore legend. Raised in a humble Georgetown penthouse, he was left the deed to a supposedly worthless abandoned Tennessee Senate seat. Instead it housed the famed 1992 Clinton lode. For 50 years thereafter, there was no American issue on which he took no stand, no microphone by which he would pass. He urge America to one war, and later condemned America's participation in another. Oh, wait. That was the same war.

In politics, always a bridesmaid, never a bride.

From Theo, we find eight nasty ways to die in the jungle. They do leave out anaconda and python, but these are definitely nasty ways to go.

I've heard of troubles with neighbors, but damn...
Giovannini told police that after being struck, he looked and observed his neighbor, later identified as Robert Wood, 41, entering his home. The victim then noticed an arrow protruding from his back and yelled for his girlfriend to call police and an ambulance arrived immediately.

Gee, a bill put together by a bunch of nanny-state jackasses to control the auto companies and so forth.... what could possible be/go wrong?

Damn, it's raining again.

Ah, the mind of(to quote Kim) Richard 'The Turd' Daley: if he can't get what he wants, he'll ask the international nannies to force us to give it to him.
Friday, April 30, 2010: Fearful that America’s Supreme Court will soon strike down Chicago’s handgun ban, frustrated by the Illinois legislature’s rejection of his anti-gun agenda, and repudiated by American courts and legislatures over his plan to sue federally licensed manufacturers and dealers of firearms for third-party crimes, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley (D) is showing contempt for his own country’s and state’s institutions, by seeking a foreign entity to enforce his anti-gun agenda against the American people. This week, Daley called for “redress against the gun industry” in the World Court, in The Hague, Netherlands. Forgetting or not caring who his constituents are, Daley blurted “This is coming from international mayors. They’re saying, ‘We’re tired of your guns, America.’”
Attention Daley, you statist bastard: WE'RE tired of your corruption, your desire to control our lives and you; so fuck off. You think we like the idea of 'international mayors' telling us how to live? What we can own? Fuck you twice, you miserable little dirtbag. Your little friends want to call in the National Guard to try and control crime in the city your family has run for decades, and this is what you want to do?

Ah, the sun is out, and I've got some stuff I need to pick up. So you're on your own for a while.

Maybe they decided Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize

for his concerns about religion and free speech.
Miss Mogahed, appointed to the President's Council on Faith-Based and Neighbourhood Partnerships, said the Western view of Sharia was "oversimplified" and the majority of women around the world associate it with "gender justice".

The White House adviser made the remarks on a London-based TV discussion programme hosted by Ibtihal Bsis, a member of the extremist Hizb ut Tahrir party.

The group believes in the non-violent destruction of Western democracy and the creation of an Islamic state under Sharia Law across the world.
...
During the 45-minute discussion, on the Islam Channel programme Muslimah Dilemma earlier this week, the two members of the group made repeated attacks on secular "man-made law" and the West's "lethal cocktail of liberty and capitalism".

They called for Sharia Law to be "the source of legislation" and said that women should not be "permitted to hold a position of leadership in government".

Miss Mogahed made no challenge to these demands and said that "promiscuity" and the "breakdown of traditional values" were what Muslims admired least about the West
.
All righty, then.

These revelations are found in Sunstein's new book, On Rumors: How Falsehoods Spread, Why We Believe Them, What Can Be Done, in which he attacks the plague of "rumors" besetting the Obama administration. Rumors must be regulated, according to Sunstein. Suspiciously, Sunstein's definition of "rumors" never seems to favor conservatives. To combat "rumors," Sunstein proposes fines, and even obligatory retractions, in the case of Internet publications.[1]

In his new book, harsh penalties would be meted out for those that "spread rumors about an appointee of a Democratic president," an occurrence likely to increase if Sunstein continues to assault the very foundations upon which America is built.[2] Sunstein will have to accuse millions of Americans of "spreading rumors." Perhaps Sunstein even dreams of an eventual final solution for rumor perpetrators.
...
The essence of America is freedom for all who seek it. This includes freedom of the press, freedom to speak the truth, freedom to criticize our leaders. If America becomes a land of "freedom for some," it will cease to be America. There is no possible justification for the desecration of liberty, and if an ideology requires the desecration of liberty to succeed, it has no place in America. Freedom of speech, that precious gift men have died to protect, is rubbish to Sunstein, who considers the Constitution to be nothing more than a set of outmoded guidelines:
A system of limitless individual choices, with respect to communications, is not necessarily in the interest of citizenship and self-government... Democratic efforts to reduce the resulting problems ought not be rejected in freedom's name.

Sunstein adds that his proposal is "almost certainly unconstitutional." It is curious that an effort to restrict the freedom of individual Americans to express ideas is "democratic" in Sunstein's lexicon

Ooooh, it's a Jew-hating Israel-hating islamist in

Canada; whoda thunk it?
A tiny minority is speaking out and organizing in response to Israel’s crimes against humanity, such as: the siege of Gaza; aggression against Palestine, Syria and Lebanon; and pressure on the U.S. to launch a contrived, pre-meditated attack on Iran, much like the one against Iraq.
And so forth, from the jerk she refers to as Elmo.

Apparently rockets shot into Israel and suicide bombers and murderers of women and children are all excusable because the Israelis have the bad taste to actually fight back.

Among the other reasons the current Iranian government should fall

and some members of it burn in hell,
He said he had been a highly regarded member of the force, and had so "impressed my superiors" that, at 18, "I was given the 'honor' to temporarily marry young girls before they were sentenced to death."

In the Islamic Republic it is illegal to execute a young woman, regardless of her crime, if she is a virgin, he explained. Therefore a "wedding" ceremony is conducted the night before the execution: The young girl is forced to have sexual intercourse with a prison guard - essentially raped by her "husband."

"I regret that, even though the marriages were legal," he said.

Why the regret, if the marriages were "legal?"

"Because," he went on, "I could tell that the girls were more afraid of their 'wedding' night than of the execution that awaited them in the morning. And they would always fight back, so we would have to put sleeping pills in their food. By morning the girls would have an empty expression; it seemed like they were ready or wanted to die.

"I remember hearing them cry and scream after [the rape] was over," he said. "I will never forget how this one girl clawed at her own face and neck with her finger nails afterwards. She had deep scratches all over her."

This is not the only case of this conduct coming to light, only the most recent.

And our President Obama and that bitch Clinton just can't wait to have 'talks' with these bastards...

“Who should we believe,

Obama or you?”
Mr. Obama is a politician, and a very astute one. However, his speech revealed that his view is unduly influenced by naïve desire. His perception of Islam and the reality of Islam need to be synchronized. I am a physician and a realist who has lived and experienced the effect of my Arab culture and Islamic religion since childhood.

The president pandered to Muslims: praised their accomplishments, commiserated with their grievances, and apologized for injustices done to them by centuries of colonialism -- without once mentioning the history of rampant and violent Arab colonialism. He avoided any mention of Jihadi tenets, or of the Islamic political ideology of supremacy over non Muslims -- principles embedded in Sharia law. These are taught and sanctioned openly by Al-Azhar, the university that hosted him, the foremost center of Sharia studies. Obama underscored the supposed American mistreatment of terrorists and apologized for torture in Guantanamo, forgetting that Islamic regimes are brutal to their own people. The president also repudiated significant U.S. contributions in both the lives of its soldiers and humanitarian aid to Muslims across the globe made throughout history -- despite Muslim attacks against America and Americans. In short, parts of his speech sounded like a new Pan-Arab messiah come to usher the Arab world back into its rightful world dominion.
...
Since arriving in the US, I have enjoyed the freedom to educate my Arab brothers and sisters in the Middle East, who yearn for real freedom - and I have seen successes. Mr. Obama calls these very successes into question rather than championing freedom.

As the president embarks on his new task to defend Muslims “against negative stereotypes,” does this mean he will somehow interfere and undermine that message? Or, perhaps it means he may join with the Organization of Islamic Conference, the 57 Muslim countries that work relentlessly to promote a United Nations resolution to suppress voices of dissent against Islam? I am confident we would all come to regret this.

Obama sidesteps the acute state of affairs in the Islamic world with flattery, failing to encourage accountability for rhetoric, practices and the behavior that feed stereotypes. I did not hear an exhortation to the Islamic world to open itself to diversity, to accept women as equal citizens with the same rights and protection under law as men. I did not hear a challenge to the Muslim world to accept other religions and their ability to practice openly within the Islamic world -- where the practice of Christianity, Judaism and other religions could cost an individual his or her life. I did not hear a call to erase for all time, Dhimmi racism -- the Sharia law-based dictate that Christians and Jews are inferior and should be suppressed. Are these “…the principles of justice, tolerance and dignity for human beings”?

A very good piece by Wafa Sultan, well worth reading.

And thanks to The Advice Goddess for pointing it out.

"I am afraid I no longer believe"

in a number of things. Like our major media. And President Obama's statements.
No one points out that almost every historical reference Obama invoked in Cairo—from the supposed Muslim role in great world discoveries to Islam fueling the Renaissance and Enlightenment to the Inquisition and Spain—was inflated, but, more importantly, always inflated from a politically-correct point of view.
...
I do not believe any of his numbers concerning, or analysis about, Muslims in America. I do not think he has a clue about the Renaissance and its relationship to the flight of Greek-speaking scholars to Western Europe from the fear of Turkish Muslims, or the Enlightenment’s interest in a Greece suffering under the yoke of an oppressive Ottoman fundamentalism
.
Read it all. And that last bit I quoted reminded me of something: any idea when was the last major invasion of Europe by an islamic power? 1683. The Ottoman army made it all the way to, and laid seige to, Vienna. As in Austria. Damn near conquered most of western Europe. Think President Obama will ever make mention of that when talking about islam's contributions to the Renaissance and Enlightenment?

Friday, June 05, 2009

As to Pres. Obama's speech the other day,

various people have taken it apart. On the "Islam Saved Sciene"-type aspects, Robert Spencer deals with that:
As a boy, I spent several years in Indonesia and heard the call of the azaan at the break of dawn and the fall of dusk. As a young man, I worked in Chicago communities where many found dignity and peace in their Muslim faith.

As a student of history, I also know civilization's debt to Islam. It was Islam – at places like Al-Azhar University – that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe's Renaissance and Enlightenment. It was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed. Islamic culture has given us majestic arches and soaring spires; timeless poetry and cherished music; elegant calligraphy and places of peaceful contemplation. And throughout history, Islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality.

The idea that Islamic culture was once a beacon of learning and enlightenment is a commonly held myth. In fact, much of this has been exaggerated, often for quite transparent apologetic motives. The astrolabe was developed, if not perfected, long before Muhammad was born. The zero, which is often attributed to Muslims, and what we know today as “Arabic numerals” did not originate in Arabia, but in pre-Islamic India. Aristotle’s work was preserved in Arabic not initially by Muslims at all, but by Christians such as the fifth century priest Probus of Antioch, who introduced Aristotle to the Arabic-speaking world. Another Christian, Huneyn ibn-Ishaq (809-873), translated many works by Aristotle, Galen, Plato and Hippocrates into Syriac. His son then translated them into Arabic. The Syrian Christian Yahya ibn ‘Adi (893-974) also translated works of philosophy into Arabic, and wrote one of his own, The Reformation of Morals. His student, another Christian named Abu ‘Ali ‘Isa ibn Zur’a (943-1008), also translated Aristotle and others from Syriac into Arabic. The first Arabic-language medical treatise was written by a Christian priest and translated into Arabic by a Jewish doctor in 683. The first hospital was founded in Baghdad during the Abbasid caliphate -- not by a Muslim, but a Nestorian Christian. A pioneering medical school was founded at Gundeshapur in Persia — by Assyrian Christians.

In sum, there was a time when it was indeed true that Islamic culture was more advanced than that of Europeans, but that superiority corresponds exactly to the period when Muslims were able to draw on and advance the achievements of Byzantine and other civilizations. But when the Muslim overlords had taken what they could from their subject peoples, and the Jewish and Christian communities had been stripped of their material and intellectual wealth and thoroughly subdued, Islam went into a period of intellectual decline from which it has not yet recovered.
I'll add, on the 'religious equality and racial tolerance' bit, Jews and Christians, from what I've read, were dhimmi; restricted in their worship, in what house/type they could own, what kind of livestock they could own, and had to pay a tax to be allowed to live this way. And Mohammed didn't like non-arabs; said it quite plainly that 'Islam is a religion for Arabs'. Not exactly what the President was pushing. Ok, further down he notes this:
"The dhimmi, as these covenanted peoples were called, were granted religious freedom, not forced to convert to Islam. They could continue to be Jews and Christians, and, as it turned out, they could share in much of Muslim social and economic life. In return for this freedom of religious conscience the Peoples of the Book (pagans had no such privilege) were required to pay a special tax — no Muslims paid taxes — and to observe a number of restrictive regulations: Christians and Jews were prohibited from attempting to proselytize Muslims, from building new places of worship, from displaying crosses or ringing bells. In sum, they were forbidden most public displays of their religious rituals."

Things like that, basically sucking up to other countries, and all the apologies for the US... about what you'd expect from Obama. He did point out that the US has done many good things for the world, but always he throws in "We're not so good, we need to advance", always he has to have something to denigrate the US. And this line:
Given our interdependence, any world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will inevitably fail.
WHAT 'world order'? What 'order' has elevated one nation over another? Just how does he mean this? I strongly suspect he's speaking of having a 'proper' world order(UN) making sure no country is, in his terms, better off than another. Yeah, that'd be a wonderful situation, wouldn't it?

I suspect that what American Thinker put forward was right; he didn't have the integrity or balls to say anything sooner- tried to avoid it altogether- about the murder of Private William Long and wounding of Private Quinton Ezeagwula, because he didn't want it to somehow cause him trouble in sucking up to the 'muslim world'. Got news for you, Mr. President; if calling a muslim a murderer and dirtbag, even indirectly, for this crime would cause problems with them, then they need to change their damned attitude. And you need to stand up for our guys, not filter everything through "We must not give offense to muslims."

And, to borrow from someone, STOP APOLIGIZING FOR THIS COUNTRY! I'm sick of it.

So I'd day any "It was just a moment of rage/insanity" defense

is out the effing window:
The man charged with the Arkansas military recruiter shooting might have considered other targets, according to law enforcement officials.

A joint FBI-Homeland Security intelligence assessment obtained by The Associated Press said officers found maps to Jewish organizations, a child care center, a Baptist church, a post office and military recruiting centers in the southeastern U.S. and New York and Philadelphia.

"Out of an abundance of caution, and in light of newly discovered information, the FBI cannot rule out additional subjects, targets, or the potential for inspired copy cats who might act out in support of the original act," the intelligence assessment said
.
I will admit to looking very carefully at the wording of releases like this, due to past instances of weasel-wording and flat lies. Considering that, the 'inspired copy cats' line sounds almost like "Let's say 'copycat' now, so if this clown's friends do something, we can have that in the public mind."

Why yes, I am rather untrustful of these people anymore. And the Religion of Peace, for that matter. From Theo, as I recall:
"Police reported that a suspicious box was located in a van outside a local mosque. However, they advise the public that there is no need to panic, as they were able to push it inside."

BlackFive has the video

of an interview with the father of Private Long.

Well, so the muslim who murdered one US soldier and wounded another

was being investigated by the FBI.
The suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of one soldier and the critical injury of another at a Little Rock, Ark., Army recruiting booth today was under investigation by the FBI's Joint Terrorist Task Force since his return from Yemen, ABC News has learned.

The investigation was in its preliminary stages, authorities said, and was based on the suspect's travel to Yemen and his arrest there for using a Somali passport
. Oh, and look at this:
While there, Muhammad — a U.S. citizen from Memphis who is a recent convert to Islam and was previously known as Carlos Bledsoe — studied jihad with an Islamic scholar, Jihadwatch.org reported.
And from the ABC report: But, Muhammad's travels overseas have sparked a major international investigation. Officials say it is too early to know for certain if he indeed acted alone.
What. The. Hell. He was arrested in YEMEN for using a SOMALI passport? And was studying jihad? Yeah, that indicates that Pres. B. Cartman Obama's plan to have some of the dirtbags he wants to release from Gitmo loose in the US will have NO problems, right? Since the FBI & Co. will be watching them? Like they were presumably watching this clown?

Speaking of President Obama, has anyone seen any statement from the White House condemning this murder and near-murder, this terrorist attack on US soil? Any condemnation of the terrorist? I damn sure haven't. I seem to recall that after that abortionist was murdered, there was a pretty prompt statement released about that; but maybe American troops being attacked and killed on American soil just isn't as important to the President. Or maybe he's just too busy playing makeup with the Queen for having crapped on her, or wondering why the Chinese laughed when told their assets are safe. Or he was too busy worrying about the weenies he's put in charge of the auto industry screwing things up even worse.

Monday, June 01, 2009

For the offense of being in uniform and standing at a recruiting office,

a muslim murders one soldier and wounds another.
A Muslim convert who said he was opposed to the U.S. military shot two soldiers outside an Arkansas recruiting station, killing one of the soldiers, police said Monday.

"This individual appears to have been upset with the military, the Army in particular, and that's why he did what he did," Little Rock Police Lt. Terry Hastings said in a phone interview.

"He has converted to [Islam] here in the past few years," Hastings said. "To be honest we're not completely clear on what he was upset about. He had never been in the military."

How about because he's a miserable sonofabitch muslim who thinks he's entitled to kill anyone who's not a miserable muslim too?
Police identified the dead soldier as Pvt. William Long, 24, of Conway. Wounded was Pvt. Quentin Ezeagwula, 18, of Jacksonville. He’s in serious condition, but isn’t believed to have life-threatening wounds.

As of the time Malkin posted, there'd been no word from Fearless Leader condemning this; I guess he's too busy writing his next apology to give to someone. Or planning his next condemnation of the murderer of that abortion doctor; FAR more important than this.

Two soldiers, fresh out of boot camp, killed by the enemy right here in this country. Excuses/threats/cries of victimhood from muslim groups expected at any time. And God damn any one of the miserable bastards who does so. Arkansas has the death penalty; we'll see if they've got the balls to deal with a protected species just like everyone else.

Just how bad has PC-at-any-cost and islamism become

in Europe?
In Feyenoord, veiled women can be seen everywhere, darting like a flash through the streets of the neighborhood. They avoid any sort of contact, even eye contact, especially with men. Feyenoord is the size of a city, and there are seventy nationalities coexisting there. It is an area that lives on subsidies and residential construction, and it is here that it is most obvious that Holland – with all of its rules against discrimination and all of its moral indignation – is a completely segregated society.
...
Muslim lawyers in Rotterdam also want to change the rules of the courtroom, asking to be allowed to remain seated when the judge enters. They recognize Allah alone. The lawyer Mohammed Enait recently refused to stand when the magistrates enter the courtroom, saying that "Islam teaches that all men are equal." The court of Rotterdam has recognized Enait's right to remain seated: "There is no legal obligation requiring Muslim lawyers to stand in front of the court, insofar as this action is in contrast with the dictates of the Islamic faith."
...
Chris Ripke is a well-known artist in the city. His studio is near a mosque in Insuindestraat. Shocked in 2004 by the murder of director Theo Van Gogh by an Dutch Islamist, Chris decided to paint an angel on wall of his studio and the biblical commandment "Gij zult niet doden," thou shalt not kill. His neighbors at the mosque found the words "offensive," and called the mayor of Rotterdam at the time, the liberal Ivo Opstelten. The mayor ordered the police to erase the painting, because it was "racist." Wim Nottroth, a television journalist, camped out on the spot in protest. The police arrested him, and his film was destroyed. Ephimenco did the same in his own window: "I put up a big white sheet with the biblical commandment. Photographers came, and the radio. If you can no longer write 'do not kill' in this country, then you are saying that we are all in prison. It is like apartheid, whites living with whites and blacks with blacks. There is a great chill. Islamism wants to change the structure of the country."

They'll either decide to stand up and defend their heritage and nation, or they're down the toilet. And the flush handle's moving.

I think it's worth pointing out, as Obama wants to 'discuss' things-

like nuclear bombs- with the Iranians, just what kind of thing the Iranian government still thinks was wonderful:
During the Iran-Iraq War, the Ayatollah Khomeini imported 500,000 small plastic keys from Taiwan. The trinkets were meant to be inspirational. After Iraq invaded in September 1980, it had quickly become clear that Iran's forces were no match for Saddam Hussein's professional, well-armed military. To compensate for their disadvantage, Khomeini sent Iranian children, some as young as twelve years old, to the front lines. There, they marched in formation across minefields toward the enemy, clearing a path with their bodies. Before every mission, one of the Taiwanese keys would be hung around each child's neck. It was supposed to open the gates to paradise for them.

At one point, however, the earthly gore became a matter of concern. "In the past," wrote the semi-official Iranian daily Ettelaat as the war raged on, "we had child-volunteers: 14-, 15-, and 16-year-olds. They went into the minefields. Their eyes saw nothing. Their ears heard nothing. And then, a few moments later, one saw clouds of dust. When the dust had settled again, there was nothing more to be seen of them. Somewhere, widely scattered in the landscape, there lay scraps of burnt flesh and pieces of bone." Such scenes would henceforth be avoided, Ettelaat assured its readers. "Before entering the minefields, the children [now] wrap themselves in blankets and they roll on the ground, so that their body parts stay together after the explosion of the mines and one can carry them to the graves."

These children who rolled to their deaths were part of the Basiji, a mass movement created by Khomeini in 1979 and militarized after the war started in order to supplement his beleaguered army. The Basij Mostazafan - or "mobilization of the oppressed" - was essentially a volunteer militia, most of whose members were not yet 18. They went enthusiastically, and by the thousands, to their own destruction. "The young men cleared the mines with their own bodies," one veteran of the Iran-Iraq War recalled in 2002 to the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine. "It was sometimes like a race. Even without the commander's orders, everyone wanted to be first."

I shall now polish my 'bigot' credentials,

'bigot' being defined by the PC-at-any-cost crowd as 'criticizing anybody we consider a protected species'.
Egyptians are cautiously rejoicing over the recent appointment of a veiled Egyptian American Muslim woman as an advisor to President Obama.

Dalia Mogahed, senior analyst and executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, was appointed this month to Obama's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships
.
As a general rule, anybody who's big in a 'blank-studies' organization is automatically suspect; if you expect someone who's a 'womyn's studies' professor to give unbiased opinions, for example, you're generally SOL.
Arabs are closely watching for signs that the new leadership in Washington is making efforts to improve relations with Islam, which many Muslims believe were severely damaged during the eight years of the Bush administration. The selection of Mogahed is viewed by many in the Middle East as a step by Obama to move beyond the stereotypes and prejudices that Muslims believe they have encountered since the attacks Sept. 11, 2001.
They were actually damaged by the Taliban killing women and destroying ancient statues and such, but why bring that up? Like that messy 'crash airplanes into buildings' mess, it just upsets people to talk about it.
"Dalia Mogahed is the best example of a successful Muslim woman. She proves that the Muslim should be successful in all fields, at least in [her] area of specialization," a commentator wrote on the website of the independent daily Al Masry al Youm
.
It's kind of amazing to hear this; most of the muslim nations tend to consider a successful woman one who hides her face, pumps out babies and acts in a properly subservient manner. Going to schools other than a girls' madrassa can get them killed, for instance, with the Taliban not liking even that.
The Egyptian-born Mogahed moved with her family to the United States almost 30 years ago. Recently, she co-wrote the book "Who Speaks for Islam?" with John Esposito, an American political science professor who has been criticized by some as an Islamic apologist. Mogahed and Esposito published an opinion piece this month in The Times on American ignorance of Islam and the Muslim world.

"My work focuses on studying Muslims, the way they think and their views," Mogahed was quoted as saying on the website of the Saudi-owned Al Arabiya satellite news channel. "Then I should tell the president about their problems and needs, especially that lately Muslims have been perceived as a source of problems and as incapable of taking part in solving international problems and that they should work on themselves. Now we want to say that Muslims are capable of providing solutions."

We've had to learn an awful lot about islam over the past years; and to a large extent it's been "If you're not a believer, it's our duty to convert, enslave or kill you. Oh, and all the Jews should be killed in any case. Now shut up, woman, and put on your tent." And we might perceive them as a 'source of problems' because of all the murders, car burnings, rapes, declarations that "With God's help we will kill all you infidels" statements, further declarations that all will be well(or at least well on the way) when all the Jews are dead and so forth. If so many of the 'solutions' muslim countries provide didn't involved dead people all over the place, might be a little more willing to listen to them.
Yet, Mogahed's declaration that her loyalty goes first to the United States, published Monday in an interview with Al Masry al Youm, disappointed some people.

"I wish your loyalty was to your Islam first, Egypt second and your Arabism third and then to anything else," wrote a reader identifying himself as the Tiger of Arabs. "I am afraid that they might make a fool out of you and use you as a cover for policies that don't serve Egypt and the Arab and Muslim world."

I'm very much hoping Mogahed does indeed consider herself an American above all other loyalty to other places; if not, we've got another mole in the government. And Tiger? Got news for you: she's not Egyptian. She's supposed to be foremost concerned with the US, not Egypt and not the 'Arab and Muslim world'. I realize that conflicts with your views, and I don't really give a rats ass.

Done for now.

Those wonderful Saudi enforcers of the

religion of peace:
A 75-year-old widow has been sentenced to 40 lashes and four months in prison in Saudi Arabia for mingling with two young men who were reportedly bringing her bread.
...
The two men, including one who was Mrs Sawadi's late husband's nephew, were also found guilty and sentenced to prison terms and lashes.

The elderly woman met the two 24-year-old men last April after she asked them to bring her five loaves of bread, the Saudi newspaper Al-Watan reported.

The men - identified by Al-Watan as the nephew, Fahd al-Anzi, and his friend and business partner Hadiyan bin Zein - went to Mrs Sawadi's home in the city of al-Chamil, north of the Saudi capital, Riyadh. After delivering the bread, the two men were arrested by a one of the religious police, Al-Watan reported
.
Just frikkin' wonderful.

You know, it wouldn't surprise me if the Evil Party tried to use the UN

to do the dirty work on a 'fairness doctrine'; they think the UN is wonderful, and look what it thinks of free speech:
...Having briefly offered lip service to the rights of free expression, it goes on to say that “the exercise of these rights carries with it special duties and responsibilities and may therefore be subject to limitations as are provided for by law and are necessary for respect of the rights or reputations of others, protection of national security or of public order, public health or morals and respect for religions and beliefs.”
Now, we know what 'religion and belief' this is aimed at, as Hitchens says: Watch what you say, because our declared intention is to criminalize opinions that differ with the one true faith. Let nobody say that they have not been warned. But take a look at that laundry list; it's like the law the Evil Party wants to pass saying an assault weapon is pretty much whatever the AG decides, and for the same reason: they want to be able to ban anything and everything they choose. In this case, "Saying that is bad for public order/health/security/the reputation of said corrupt politician in our opinion; shut up or go to jail."

Remember, these are the people Obama & Co. would love to give oversight of this country to.

And yet another sign of the Era of Multi-Culti Surrender

we're in, and that's going to wind up with us converted, dhimmi or dead if we're not damn careful and lucky:
Muzzammil Hassan, CEO of Bridges TV, whose motto is "connecting people through understanding," apparently didn't think Thursday's honor killing -- and make no mistake about what this was -- at the station might somehow blur that message.

Of course, police and mainstream media are treating the gruesome homicide as a simple case of domestic violence. Even though the victim, 37-year-old Aasiya Zubair, had recently filed for divorce and apparently was concerned enough about her Muslim husband's reaction to obtain a restraining order. And, despite the fact that she was beheaded, a particularly hideous practice all but unthinkable to any but Islamic fundamentalists, you can bet that her murderer's religion will never be mentioned, as though it were irrelevant.
...
Let's never forget "domestic violence" victim Aqsa Parvez, the 16-year-old Canadian girl whose father strangled her for refusing to wear the traditional Muslim head scarf in 2007. Or Amina and Sarah Said of Dallas, both murdered by their father in 2008 for dating non-Muslim boys. Or Sandeela Kanwal of Georgia, who was strangled to death by her Muslim father, Chaudhry Rashid, last July.

Rashid's actions are of special note here, as he actually admitted his motive to be protecting his family's honor from the divorce his daughter was planning
.

Thousands of girls are murdered by their own muslim families each year to 'cleanse their honor' of the stain of the girl being raped.

They murder their daughter. For having been raped.

I really do not give a rats ass about what the progressive minds of the EUnuchs think, or some worthless excuse for a man who thinks that's a proper way to behave; only a sick culture based on sick beliefs could do this. And only a sick culture would make excuses for the dirtbags who do it. If someone raped my daughter I wouldn't kill my daughter; I'd give the rapist the choice of going to prison or into a hole. You don't like that? Screw you. You and every multi-culti moron who won't hold muslims to civilized standards. Usually the same people who blame Israel for every palistinian who stubs his toe and cry "WAR CRIME!" when Israel whacks the filth shooting rockets at schools.

THERE ARE 'HONOR' MURDERS BEING COMMITTED IN OUR COUNTRY. And our 'PC at any cost' media don't have the balls or the integrity to say it. So we'd better spread the word. And make noise about it, and the idiots who won't call them what they are.

The World, and my take on it

Parts of it, anyway.

Haven’t written much about the son lately. His unit had rotated back to Germany, where the excitement consisted of freezing, defrosting after the morning PT in single-digit temperatures(low double-digits on some days) and dealing with the ice and snow.

Last night he flew in and stayed overnight; he’s been transferred to a base stateside. Got a few hours sleep, picked up his truck and headed out this morning on a long drive. From what he said of the trip, the only problem was in Paris. He’d had a big carabiner on his pack to hold his laptop case, and they confiscated it at the airport: “It can be used as brass knuckles, so it is not allowed!” This after it passing without a second glance through US and German airports multiple times. Apparently pointing this out and adding that he’d been trusted to board a plane once or twice with an M4 didn’t do anything more than irritate them. Which brings me to what I once said to my daughter when she brought up the metric system:
“The metric system is France’s revenge on the world.”
“Revenge for what?”(delivered with an annoyed look)
“For their having to be the French.”
She wouldn’t talk to me for a while after that…

In one of his books Eric Flint has a character saying that most of the French enlisted and a lot of their junior officers are quite good; it’s many of their high-ranking officers and the politicians who tend to be assholes. Which would seem to be born out by reports from Afghanistan, some people reporting that the French troops fight like hell when they can; but between orders from On High and lack of equipment can’t do it very often. You’d think, even if a lot of the politicians don’t like them being there, they’d want their troops equipped as well as possible, but no. Of course, we’ve got experience with asshole politicians like that ourselves.

In other news, I’d heard the other day about Rep. Stabenow talking about needed the ‘Fairness Doctrine’ or something else to be shoved down our throats because “There is no balance in talk radio.” Turns out that, along with the general BS in that statement, her husband is a bigshot(can you still be a bigshot in a failure like that?) with Air America. Which indicates she’s less interested in ‘fairness’ than in helping hubby shove AA down our throats. And, incidentally, helping the family bottom line. Isn’t it wonderful to have such dirtbagspoliticians in DC telling us what we should be able to hear? And read? And think?

There was various BS about the Porkulus Bill currently in the Senate, with some talk of ‘moderate Republicans’ i.e. RINOs, negotiating to try to cut down on some of the pork. The problem being that most of the damn thing is pork and payoffs and power grabs. Apparently President The Lightworker Obama gave a speech bitching about the nasty people not rolling over and letting his bill pass without all this messy debate(“What do you think this is, a republic?!?” “Yes, we do, and we ain’t shutting up.) When the CBO states that this bill is a disaster in the making, and these clowns keep pushing it with the “Give the Lightworker what he wants or we’re doomed!” line… could we borrow a roofing tar melter for a while, you think?

About a year ago I bought a Don Hume in-the-waistband holster at a show; it was a decent price and I wanted to try that style of carry. Well, the style of carry is great; easier to conceal, stable. The only problem was the mouth of the holster tended to close a bit after you drew; it has a piece of leather stitched around the mouth to stiffen it, but doesn’t do a lot. So the other day I cut the stitching and pulled that piece off, cut and shaped a piece of steel from a saw blade to fit, set it in place and stitched that leather piece back over it, then tweaked the shape a touch so the housing for the laser module in the grip didn’t bump into the mouth.

It’s great. It’s actually easier to draw, as well as return to the holster. It would probably make an even bigger difference if the body of the holster was a stiffer leather, but right now this is fine. Although I’m tempted to find some type of leather(I’ve heard horsehide is good) that would get very stiff after being fitted and try making one.

How does this sound:
Obama got used to the media giving him a pass on damn near everything the last couple of years. Add to that his buttmonkeys trashing anyone who dared to actually question his qualifications and his past and what he wanted to do to us, he got used to getting pretty much what he wanted.

Add to that the fact that he’s not really very good at what he’s doing; not only do a lot of people in both parties not trust him, he’s apparently done a lousy job of trying to build any with those people.

Throw in the sense of entitlement- connected to point 1- that led to the “I won” statements, which boil down to thinking “I won the job interview, so you HAVE to do what I want.”

Finally, I think Pelosi & Reid & Co. figured that since he didn’t really know what he was doing, or how to do it, or both, they figured they’d do the actual governing and he’d rubber-stamp whatever they put in front of him. And he either didn’t realize it before and doesn’t like it now, or knew it before and let them think that was how it would be and now…

Put it all together, seems like it would cover a lot of the crap that’s happened the last two weeks. His apparent surprise that his nominees actually ran into questions and opposition(not enough of either, but that’s a different gripe), his apocalyptic talk about “Give me this bill or we’re ruined”(closer to truth would be “Give me this bill and we’re ruined”), his anger that the Stupid Party is holding fairly strong and not giving him bipartisan cover for the crap he’s trying to feed us; seems to explain at least some of it.

The other day I noted that there's evidence of the wonderful islamist believers of the Religion of Peace raping teenagers/early 20's and then using the disgrace of that to push them into suicide bombing; I missed this the day before:
Samira Ahmed Jassim, 51, is accused of recruiting more than 80 women to become human bombs, including 28 who actually carried out attacks.

She has apparently confessed to helping to organise the rape of young Iraqi women.

She would then play on the shame associated with victims of rape in Iraqi society to convince the women to become suicide bombers as their only means of escape
.
Note to people: if your culture tells a woman who's been raped that she's brought dishonor on the family, your culture sucks. If you arrange for a woman to be raped so you can convince her to commit suicide and murder, you suck even worse. And ought to be used as a bayonet-practice dummy, or put to some other appropriate use.

Looked over at Tim Blair for the first time in a while,

and found a couple of things. First, Brit police have started what amounts to a witness protection program for potential victims of honor killings:
BRITISH police will offer new identities to victims of so-called "honour" violence in a bid to combat the crime that kills one person a month.

London's Metropolitan Police said up to a dozen people were murdered annually in honour violence - defined by the police as crimes committed in a bid to protect family or communal honour.

Officers estimate a further 500 are forcibly married and then raped, attacked or falsely imprisoned
.
One per month dead. That they know of/admit to. In BRITAIN. And, considering the current state, I'd bet the '500' is an underestimate as well. But even with that, they just can't bring themselves to say it out loud:
Typically, women are the victims of honour violence, which has been linked to certain interpretations of religious and cultural norms.
Yeah, must be those Methodists and Church of England fanatics; couldn't possibly be any other religious group, could it?

Next, it seems loggers down below have kind of lost patience with some of their tormenters:
FOREST activists who survived a violent attack by loggers in Tasmania's old growth Upper Florentine valley will return for what they say is a make-or-break summer of protest.

Video of the two activists' ordeal showed their disabled blockade car under assault on Tuesday from a man with a sledgehammer before others kicked in its windows
.
...
They are part of a small group of protesters who on Saturday will celebrate their second year trying to halt logging in the Upper Florentine, about 120 kilometres west of Hobart
.
Apparently their 'celebration' won't be all the celebratory. At least, not if they set up blockades on roads.

I need to check Blair's place more often.
