One thing that will always both amaze and frustrate me in handloading

is the magic combination you can find with some firearms, rifles in particular here.  There's a load that, using Federal cases and match primers, at 200 yards groups terribly, and that's messing with powder and bullet seating length.
Then you use a Lake City case(military surplus), the same bullet, using a standard Fiocchi Large Rifle primer, that groups out of that rifle very nicely.  But almost every other load, the Federal cases work quite well.

I will also note I tried some subsonic loads in .308 using the 190-grain Hornady Sub-X bullet and Titegroup powder, and some 169-grain match bullets I picked up a while ago from Midway(blemished bullet sale, can save some money), and based on past experience I dropped the powder charges by .2 grains on the first, .3 on the second, and both were still right at or a touch above speed of sound.  I don't know if because the test barrels they use make a difference, or they'd rather have a "Let's make sure a bullet doesn't get stuck in their barrel" precaution.  So next batch will be a bit lower yet.

But it was a fine day to be outside, and I'm glad I went.
