Another factor: idiots in uniform who forget some very important things.

"Only police are well-trained enough", etc.
WASHINGTON – An officer in the Metropolitan Police Department's first
district “dry-fired” an unloaded weapon at the head of another officer during a roll-call meeting on Saturday afternoon, possibly under orders
from a sergeant as part of a training exercise, four MPD sources tell
WUSA9.
Idiots.
Why Obamacare Is Failing at "Universal Coverage"
Because it's a badly-designed piece of crap more aimed at grabbing power over people than anything else?
So if Sanders realized any of this, he'd hate Sweden instead of saying we should be like it.
Oh joy, Fecesbook has effed-up again. Morons.
Yeah, I know it doesn't affect everyone(generally), it's still a pain.

I'd heard the Navy had problems, but this...
This is horrible. This isn't a slip, or a screwup, this is an ongoing pile of incompetence and bullshit that people should be in cells for. Not just the traitors and spies, the fools who let them get away with it. And maybe helped.
When the Washington, DC Navy Yard fell prey to a spree killer in September 2013, leaving a dozen dead plus the shooter, the killer was a navy civilian employee with a history of mental illness including police involvement, and also a secret-level security clearance. Although police reported these incidents, navy security took no action, and the shooter remained able to work and enjoy access to military bases—with fatal consequences. It was evident something was seriously amiss with the navy’s security clearance process.
...
Last fall, Mostafa Ahmed Awwad, a navy civilian engineer, was convicted of passing secret information about the navy’s newest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to an Egyptian intelligence officer. Rather, to someone Mr. Awwad thought was an Egyptian spy. In reality, it was an FBI agent working undercover: the traitor was stopped before he could actually betray secrets. Left unasked in all this was how Mr. Awwad, a native of Saudi Arabia, got work as a navy engineer with security clearances when his loyalty was clearly not to the United States.
...
Mr. Baker, who worked for the navy for three decades, was born Majid Karimi in Iran. Over thirty years, Mr. Baker lied flagrantly about his true biography and life events, including the fact that he still possessed an Iranian passport that he traveled on long after taking a job with the navy, a clear violation of security rules.
Worse, Mr. Baker had multiple identities plus significant unexplained affluence—in one case, the shifted around more than $130,000 illicitly. To anyone versed in counterintelligence, it all reeks of foreign intelligence operations. Left unasked here is how an immigrant from Iran, a country that represents one of the biggest threats to the United States—not to mention a top espionage risk—managed to get navy employment and security clearances in the first place, then broke numerous basic security regulations for three whole decades without getting caught.
Add in the current spy, who's done God knows how much damage.
Somewhere, years back, I read the statement that 'The Navy has more bullshit per square foot than any other branch of the military.' Apparently it gets in the way of actually DOING THE DAMNED JOB for a bunch of brass.

This is what happens when politicians in uniform are in charge
The Pentagon is ordering the top brass to incorporate climate change into virtually everything they do, from testing weapons to training
troops to war planning to joint exercises with allies.
...
“The climate does change over great periods of time, typically measured in millennia, though sometimes in centuries,” he said. “But the document mentions accounting for such down to the level of changes in ‘tactics, techniques and procedures’ as if reviewing how a squad conducts a patrol should be accorded the same level of importance and attention as determining whether the naval base at Norfolk, Virginia, might have to be relocated as sea levels rise over the next 100 years.”
Which also brings up: does Obama actually believe this crap, or is this just one more way to trash the US Military?
I found it all deeply dispiriting. “Racial understanding” sounds nice; it's always good to be understanding, right? Yet the logic of it strikes me as dire. It rehabilitates, in politically correct lingo, the belief that skin color is more important than what lies beneath.
Indeed, some university administrators now actively encourage their students to be color-conscious rather than colorblind.
Of course; progressives usually are racists.
Yeah, this IS what they think of us.
Terry Shumaker, former U.S. ambassador to Trinidad (I wonder what that gig cost him) and current abject minion in the service of Mrs. Clinton, quotes Herself telling an audience in New Hampshire: “Service is the rent we pay for living in this great country.”
There is a very old English word for people who are required to perform service as a rent for their existence, and that word is serf. Serfdom is a form of bondage.
With themselves as the benevolent lords controlling us.

When PC and lying is the Army rule
Even as the U.S. military denies reports that American troops were told
to ignore Afghan child abusers, an 11-year Green Beret who was ordered discharged after he confronted an alleged rapist was informed Tuesday
that the Army has denied his appeal.
"We have never done that(but if you do interfere with an Afghan child molester, your career is over)!"
I am so damned glad son is out from under the control of these assholes.

...changing the reports in order to appeal to what they perceived as the Obama administration’s official line
that the anti-ISIS campaign was making progress and would eventually end with the group’s destruction.
Gee, I wonder why they might've done that?
If this is true, then there are some brass that need to be looking for new jobs.
Our allies. What's being done to our troops to support our allies in Afghanistan.
General Napier had the right idea. Screw 'their culture', they want our help they need to stop this crap.
Mark Steyn on the current "Mr. Trump, why didn't you correct what that man said!" crap:
1) Unlike Hillary Clinton's under-attended "rallies", a voter doesn't have to undergo a background check or sign a piece of paper pledging to support her in the election before being permitted into a Republican candidate's presence. So at our campaign events there are all kinds of people with all kinds of views - and it goes without saying I won't agree with them all. If you find that odd, maybe you've been covering Hillary too long.
2) Why does one Republican candidate's "scandal" get hung around the neck of every other guy's? I'll answer your question to me about Donald Trump's 'gaffe' after you ask Bernie Sanders, Martin O'Malley, Lincoln Chafee and Joe Biden about Hillary Clinton's server and how she handled Benghazi. Till then, get lost.
Oh yes, there's more.

The Dutchman takes notice of LTC Bateman
and it ain't pretty: full post below for those who can't go to Sipsey:
Thanks to Sean for pointing to this
Reacting to this story, "Hoover police charge woman, 28, with murder in shooting at Iron Bowl party," a current-serving United States Army Lieutenant Colonel has come unglued in the blog pages of Esquire on the subject of firearms confiscation: "It's Time to Talk About Guns and the Supreme Court."
Here is LTC Bateman's proposed program for you and me:
1. The only guns permitted will be the following:a. Smoothbore or Rifled muzzle-loading blackpowder muskets. No 7-11 in history has ever been held up with one of these.b. Double-barrel breech-loading shotguns. Hunting with these is valid.c. Bolt-action rifles with a magazine capacity no greater than five rounds. Like I said, hunting is valid. But if you cannot bring down a defenseless deer in under five rounds, then you have no fking reason to be holding a killing tool in the first place.2. We will pry your gun from your cold, dead, fingers. That is because I am willing to wait until you die, hopefully of natural causes. Guns, except for the three approved categories, cannot be inherited. When you die your weapons must be turned into the local police department, which will then destroy them. (Weapons of historical significance will be de-milled, but may be preserved.)3. Police departments are no longer allowed to sell or auction weapons used in crimes after the cases have been closed. (That will piss off some cops, since they really need this money. But you know what they need more? Less violence and death. By continuing the process of weapon recirculation, they are only making their jobs -- or the jobs of some other cops -- harder.)4. We will submit a new tax on ammunition. In the first two years it will be 400 percent of the current retail cost of that type of ammunition. (Exemptions for the ammo used by the approved weapons.) Thereafter it will increase by 20 percent per year.5. We will initiate a nationwide "buy-back" program, effective immediately, with the payouts coming from the DoD budget. This buy-back program will start purchasing weapons at 200 percent of their face value the first year, 150 percent the second year, 100 percent the third year. Thereafter there will be a 10 year pause, at which point the guns can be sold to the government at 10 percent of their value for the next 50 years.6. The major gun manufactures of the United States, less those who create weapons for the federal government and the armed forces, will be bought out by the United States of America, for our own damned good.
Now LTC Bateman is a current-serving officer and has taught at Georgetown University, George Mason University, and the United States Military Academy at West Point. Here is his Small Wars Journal bio.
Bateman wrote in SWJ in 2010:
I have departed the Office of Net Assessment, OSD, and for the next four years, at least, I will serve the United States by serving with or among other nation's military forces. This means that, among other things, I can write again. I arrived at the NATO Defense College recently. Not exactly a hardship tour, to be sure. I am in Rome, Italy, for six months. At the end of this gig, so I hear, the odds are not bad that I will go downrange for a while, working as a Strategist for somebody. We will see. Following that...the European Rapid Reaction Corps, Lille, France, where I will be one of about six Americans.Old Winnie once noted, "It is better to jaw jaw than to war war."
Now, leaving aside the absolute fact that Bateman's own "jaw-jaw" will certainly lead to civil "war-war," for a military-educated "strategist" Bateman seems woefully ignorant of at least three topics:
1. The Constitution of the United States, especially the history of the Second Amendment.2. The Law of Unintended Consequences.3. Fourth Generation Warfare as it may be applied in an American context in the event of just such a tyranny as the LTC proposes.
Bateman also wrote this in SWJ:
Now I am not a big one for the whole "emotional" thingeemabob. In most debates I want footnotes, documentation, and fracking proof for everything. People who know my history know this about me. But there are limits, and Jim's simple statement hit the mark. Sometimes, some very rare times, you don't need proof. You don't need evidence. You need only know how to feel, and be human.
Presumably Bateman is extrapolating not only from his own ignorance but from an evidence-free "feeling" in his reaction to the story he claims to have motivated this citizen-disarmament jeremiad. Somehow, though, I doubt the sincerity of his narrative on this point. I rather suspect that this tax-feeding oath breaker has long been an advocate of a government monopoly of violence and is merely using the Iron Bowl insanity as a convenient excuse springboard to curry favor with a regime that he knows covets citizen disarmament above all things. Perhaps, his Army career having reached a frustrating end-game, he is angling for the new post of Deputy Secretary of Defense in Charge of Citizen Disarmament.
Surely someone so allegedly intelligent would not unintentionally objectify the cause of the tragic murder of one woman by another over the results of a football game making it the fault of the firearm rather than the murderess? Surely it is no accident that he would then conflate that objectification into a call for wholesale citizen disarmament?
No, I rather think that this solicitation of bloody civil war is something Bateman has been pondering for some time and he has decided that the prevailing political winds won't threaten his career or his pension if he licks the arses of the political Mandarins of the same regime that gave us the Fast and Furious scandal.
I would ask Bateman, were he in front of me at the moment, how many millions of his fellow citizens (who he is nominally supposed to protect) is he willing to see dead in order to accomplish his bloody tyranny?
One million? Three? Ten?
At what point in this proposed stack of bodies would Bateman's thirst for the murder-by-government of his fellow citizens be overcome by the reality of his "You don't need evidence - You need only know how to feel, and be human" alleged benevolence?
Batemen is evidently unworried that he will one day be called to account by this egregious violation of the Law of Unintended Consequences -- should he get his way -- for the intellectual support he gives to his proposed American tyranny, this sought-after massacre of you and me, of our families, of all our friends.
I would suggest to the Lieutenant Colonel that he re-evaluate his bloody proposal in the light of Bill Clinton's rules of engagement for the Serbian political and media elite in 1999 as well as the Chinese caution, "Be careful what you wish for, you may get it."
Thanks to Sean for pointing to this

Yeah, it's Monday Update on shaving section
Hey, who cares about that icky hand-to-hand stuff, right? It's all old-fashioned, right? Won't hurt to trash it, right?
People who don't care about readiness to fight and win, but care very much about getting their ticket punched for being 'fiscally responsible' and PC, who also don't care about who they'll get killed by trashing serious training.
Speaking of PC idiots,
Some parents want to know why Emmaus High School’s championship rifle team was not included in the school’s new yearbook. They hoped to find out what happened at Monday night’s school board meeting. But no explanation was offered by school board members, the superintendent or other administrators at the meeting.
You damn well know 'why'; you also know now that the chickenshit administrators are hoping you'll go away and shut up. So this is the time to ASK them and DEMAND a damned answer; calls if need be, visits if possible, and if they try to talk around it, DON'T LET THEM.
Yeah, that "Let us be Green no matter the consequences!" actually HAS consequences; sucks, don't it?
Mr Tajani warned that Europe's quixotic dash for renewables was pushing electricity costs to untenable levels, leaving Europe struggling to compete as America's shale revolution cuts US natural gas prices by 80pc.
"I am in favour of a green agenda, but we can't be religious about this. We need a new energy policy. We have to stop pretending, because we can't sacrifice Europe's industry for climate goals that are not realistic, and are not being enforced worldwide," he told The Daily Telegraph during the Ambrosetti forum of global policy-makers at Lake Como. Of course, the same watermelons want to do the same things here, too.
Apparently there's a problem with the newer fancier- more expensive- razors: they're not selling well.
Have you seen the prices on the damn things? Around four bucks each. And if you're on a tight budget that doesn't look like such a good deal, even for a super-duper shave.
About four years back son came across a old safety razor in good shape at an antique store and bought it. Cleaned it up and looked around: blades, for basic from Wally World, Wilkinson are about two bucks for a pack of ten. He tried this soap and liked it better than canned, and finally settled on the Mitchell's and never went back. I think he keeps a couple of disposables around just in case, otherwise hasn't touched one since he started.
Yeah, something like the Mitchell's soap looks expensive; consider that that container will last for months, and it's not so much. Yeah, you need a brush; not exactly a big deal.
Update: I'll throw in, the Razor Emporium link covers a lot of stuff: blades, soap, brushes, and both straight and safety razors. And restoration services for old ones.

The other day I said something of what I think of Lt. Col. Folsom
and every asshole behind these idiot rules; and who enforces them and screws their own troops over.
I shouldn't be surprised; they're also behind letting wounded troops die and putting the medics and flights in danger. All in the name of blindly following idiot rules.
More and more I lean toward the 'lamppost-rope-politician' formula, with the corollary 'lamppost-rope-fucking idiots in uniform and politicians in uniform'.

It's February, and I know it won't last,
but the weather the last few and next few days is wonderful: highs 60's & 70's, yay! So I spent the day helping a friend with some stuff, and I'm just now scanning the news. And there's a lot of it. For instance,
“Operation Protect Our Children” sounded great! The Department of Justice and Homeland Security‘s tag-team beatdown was supposed to seize ten criminal sites this past weekend. Instead, it shuttered 84,000 innocent domains. And replaced them with a banner labeling them as child porn traffickers. Whoops!
Obvious question: can the people damaged by this idiocy sue? And can they get the morons responsible for this fired?
“60 Minutes” correspondent Lara Logan was repeatedly sexually assaulted by thugs yelling, “Jew! Jew!” as she covered the chaotic fall of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo’s main square Friday, CBS and sources said yesterday.
Must've been some of those types that Jimmy Carter says we don't need to worry about.
Belmont Club has a piece on the subject of finding out the world isn't the fuzzy-bunny place some think it is, and points out what a bunch of sniveling, self-righteous hypocrites run Berkeley:
The Berkeley City Council, after passing a resolution calling for the resettlement of detainees released from Guantanamo in the United States, voted against inviting such persons to live in their fair city, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Yeah, it's great to want to turn a bunch of illegal combatants and terrorists loose in the US, "...as long as you keep them away from us!"
On the subject of idiots who happen to wear a uniform,
Military bureaucrats needlessly blocked U.S. troops in Iraq from getting laser weapons — tools that could’ve kept civilians from getting killed. That, in a nutshell, is what the Pentagon’s Inspector General concluded after an investigation of the Marine Corps’ botched attempts to send the nonlethal lasers to the war zone.
It’s a major mea culpa, but it comes with an important caveat: Sure, the Marines’ pencil-pushers mishandled the urgent request for lasers, first issued five years ago. But that doesn’t give today’s front-line commanders an excuse for circumventing the bureaucrats.
Because Deity forbid you do something that keeps people alive without getting the proper rubber stamped-approval from some asshole in a nice, safe office.
Oh, isn't this just wonderful?
MISSION - CHANNEL 5 NEWS is exposing what appears to be a Mexican military incursion into the United States. It was all caught on camera. We froze surveillance video taken at the Anzalduas International Bridge.
What you see is the international boundary that separates the United States from Mexico and what authorities on this side of the border seem to think is a truck packed with armed men crossing into the United States. The video clearly shows a large military-transport vehicle drive north on the Anzalduas bridge over the international boundary.
Possibly a mistake; way things have been going, quite possibly not.
Oh Project Gunwalker, we're pretty sure why a lot of the major media doesn't want to talk about it, but a good question is "Why isn't Drudge?" And some suggestions on pushing the matter.
John Wiley Price: a racist on the Dallas County Commissioner's Court:
"All of you are white -- go to hell. Go to hell. Go to hell.... You too, fatboy."
He offered up this racist remark when a fellow commissioner kept referring to him as "Chief Mullah" due to his role in ousting a government employee.
Now, "Chief Mullah" ain't civil either -- let's not pretend on that one. On the other hand, "Chief Mullah" really doesn't invite back the open declaration "All of you are white -- go to hell."
What makes this story special is this asshole's defense -- see, you're the racists. You drove him to this. How? Um, you called him "Chief Moolah" (it was mullah, not moolah) and he claims that "Chief Moolah" is an old-time racial slur.
Combine socialized medicine with socialist assholes in charge, and you get things like this:
Trespassing laws are to be used to evict elderly patients who ‘block’ hospital beds.
Pensioners reluctant to go home – often because they are too frail or confused to cope on their own – will be given 48 hours to leave. If they refuse, NHS trusts will seek a court order for possession of their bed.
The ‘bed-blockers’ could even be forced to pay the legal fees incurred.
Hey, on Gunwalker, looks like Sen. Grassley is just a bit pissed off at ATF trying to blow him off:
Senator Charles Grassley has released a letter written today to Attorney General Eric Holder. Referencing a Feb. 10 briefing given to him and his staff by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Fireams and Explosives (ATF), Grassley made a troubling observation that points to Bureau stonewalling of his request for complete information.
"[T]he briefers focused on general issues related to challenges in successfully prosecuting gun trafficking cases. They refused to answer specific questions about the facts and circumstances that led me to request the briefing," Grassley complained.
While it would be personally satisfying to read a letter in which the Senator says "I'm tired of these bastards lying to me; I want answers and I'm not going away", this very polite way of saying it will have to do.
If you're needing some ammo for arguing about the costs of Obama & Biden's Folly(this one, anyway), go here. Among other things,
Rail buffs argue that subsidies for passenger service simply offset the huge government support of highways and airways. The subsidies "level the playing field." Wrong. In 2004, the Department of Transportation evaluated federal transportation subsidies for the period 1990-2002. It found passenger rail service had the highest subsidy ($186.35 per thousand passenger-miles) followed by mass transit ($118.26 per thousand miles). By contrast, drivers received no net subsidy; their fuel taxes more than covered federal spending. Subsidies for airline passengers were about $5 per thousand miles traveled. (All figures are in inflation-adjusted year 2000 dollars.)
On that note I'll be leaving you for the night; I'm tired and still have the 15-22 to clean.

Is it something trained into high-ranking officers, or
does the rank somehow attract people who like to make up "See, I'm DOING SOMETHING!!" idiot rules?
Soldiers assigned to Fort Hood will have to register their personal firearms with the director of emergency services, he added. Fort Hood is home to some 50,000 active-duty soldiers and 18,000 of the soldiers' family members.
Hell, he even admits what good this is:
But, Cone said, had the changes been in place on November 5, they might not have been enough.
"I don't think necessarily they would have had an effect on this event," he said.
Absolute effing bullcrap.
But wait! There's MORE!!
A 24-hour "behavioral health hot line" is available, and a surveillance program "to identify and monitor areas of concern" will be started soon, he said.
"These findings may lead to targeted interventions for certain populations as we address these issues," Braverman said.
Plans call for construction of an 82,000-square-foot facility in which behavioral health facilities would be consolidated, Braverman said.
Soldiers in need of care can also make appointments with their primary care providers, he said.
The objective, Braverman said, is "to restore trust and confidence in Army medicine."
Well, I've got news for you, guy; the problem was a fucking jihadi in your midst that nobody wanted to DO anything about because they were afraid of having their career ruined by you effing tolerance junkies. So until you bastards do something to make it crystal-clear that reporting a muslim working his way up to mass murder won't cause the reporting party to be screwed over YOU'RE ARRANGING THE EFFING DECK CHAIRS ON THE TITANIC.
Oh, and apparently it hasn't occurred to you geniuses that somebody who obtains a weapon for illegal purposes just- just maybe, y'know?- might not register it with you?
I don't know what to worry about the most anymore; the open enemy the son is facing, or the idiots in uniform with a lot of rank on their shoulders and the politicians they suck up to.
Despite the availability of resources, many soldiers have expressed reluctance to seek mental health care, fearing that doing so would adversely affect their careers.
"There is a perception of stigma," Cone said.
But Braverman said treatment need not hinder anyone's career.
"If you are seen in our system, while there's information in the medical records, that's not allowed to be used for any determination of security levels or future assignments," he said.
Well, people finding out that the jihadi-in-training turned some of his patients in for 'war crimes' didn't exactly help, now did it?(Note to Braverman: KEEP THE DAMNED ENEMY FROM TREATING OUR TROOPS, YOU JACKASS.)
Damn. Just effing dammit.

I must devolve to bad language: I'm wondering what God-damned miserable lawyer/politician in uniform
thought this shit was a good idea?
Navy SEALs have secretly captured one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq — the alleged mastermind of the murder and mutilation of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah in 2004. And three of the SEALs who captured him are now facing criminal charges, sources told FoxNews.com.
Well, isn't that just ficking wonderful? To give you an idea of the bullshit going on here,
The three, all members of the Navy's elite commando unit, have refused non-judicial punishment — called an admiral's mast — and have requested a trial by court-martial.
Which sounds to me like "You want to charge me with a crime in this? Fine. Let's have a court-martial, put everyone under oath and make this a matter of records, with everyone's name attached." I'd add "You miserable scum-sucking bastard", but I'm not as disciplined as these men.
And just what was the horrible act that's causing this?
Ahmed Hashim Abed, whom the military code-named "Objective Amber," told investigators he was punched by his captors — and he had the bloody lip to prove it.
...
.....
I'm wondering if anyone has asked the fucking morons behind this if their brain is located up their ass, or if they have one at all?
Updated: Apparently Allahpundit at HotAir doesn't think the Seals being charged on this is a big deal; Uncle Jimbo tells him different. Including Noted beta male and "many moons ago" entertaining blogger Allahpundit at Hot Air throws three Navy SEALs under the bus just to appease people who are only safe to be appeased, himself included, because of these rough men. No link from me.
Me either.

I don't think the standard "So that's why we didn't catch it"
are going to work.
A senior government official tells ABC News that investigators have found that alleged Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan had "more unexplained connections to people being tracked by the FBI" than just radical cleric Anwar al Awlaki. The official declined to name the individuals but Congressional sources said their names and countries of origin were likely to emerge soon.
Questions already surround Major Hasan's contact with Awlaki, a radical cleric based in Yemen whom authorities consider a recruiter for al Qaeda. U.S. officials now confirm Hasan sent as many as 20 e-mails to Awlaki. Authorities intercepted the e-mails but later deemed them innocent or protected by the first amendment.
Throwing out the magic words 'First Amendment' doesn't cut it; he was a serving military officer making contact with an al Qaeda recruiter. THAT should have had the red flag waving and maybe a flare going off. Instead,
The FBI said it turned over the information to the Army, but Defense Department officials today denied that. One military investigator on a joint terror task force with the FBI was shown the e-mails, but they were never forwarded in a formal way to more senior officials at the Pentagon, and the Army did not learn of the contacts until after the shootings.
Ah, yes. They were 'shown', but the 'formalities' weren't taken care of, so... And we're supposed to TRUST these clowns?
Meanwhile, in a true G-Man effort to look like they're doing something,
In Texas, an hour before a memorial service for the Fort Hood victims, four FBI agents showed up at the Killeen mosque where Hasan prayed and searched a trash bin outside. The mosque president was clearly upset when he had to return from traveling to the service to sign a document handed to him by agents, apparently authorizing the search.
The FBI would not comment on what the agents were looking for at the mosque a full five days after the shooting, but motivation remains the focus.
And, of course, the Outrage Is Flowing:
"We're concerned any time a house of worship is searched in this fashion," said Ibrahim Hooper, national communications director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Washington, D.C.-based civil rights group. "And we would follow up to see if there was probable cause for the search and if it was carried out in the appropriate and legal manner."
First off, Hooper, if I recall correctly it's been long settled that what you throw in the trash the police can dig through without a warrant; that's been covered in many cases in the past. So your 'concerns' you can shove up your ass, you're just as subject to that as anyone else.
Second, 'apparently' authorizing the search? In other words "We can search the trash without their permission, but while we'd do that to anyone else, for a mosque we need something signed giving 'permission' ." Or so it seems to me. I may be wrong, but right now I'm not willing to give these people ANY benefit of the doubt.

You know, every time I think of the FBI saying
they never opened an 'official investigation' of the murdering scumbag, it pisses me off even more.
Over at Advice Goddess, in the comments to this post you have variations on this one:
So you really think it's a good idea for the government to surveill individual political speech and open formal investigations based on the content of that speech?
Which overlooks a very important point: He's a serving officer in the United States Military, not just some guy spouting off. When you put on that uniform and take that oath, you know damned well that things you might say as a civilian with no harm WILL have an effect on your career. And the Army and the FBI fell flat on this because there are two very good reasons for a formal investigation to have been made:
First, if he actually held these views, it very much affected his ability to serve, and affected every troop he had power over, and
Second, if he did not say them, and if he was not the author of the posts, he needed to be cleared of the suspicion.
But they didn't properly investigate, and no proper action was taken, and it's likely all these people are dead and wounded because of it. I'm with Peters, heads should roll. They'd better.
And for those PC-obsessed officers and gummint weenies who'll play the "We mustn't be nasty to muslims" card, guess what? If this guy had been investigated and dealt with, there might have been a news story and some bitching, but that'd have been it; NOW you have the fallout of a muslim left in a place he shouldn't have been because you effed up and people are dead. You actually think this is better?
