If you haven't read the Vorkosigan novels you won't get this,

but I've decided on a motto for the year:

Is there a best place to start the Vorkosigan Saga?

The Vorkosigan novels were fun, but I think I prefer the approach of Sir Aivars Terekhov from the Honorverse novels: Drop BFRs from orbit on the villains until he finds a link in the enemy chain of command willing to see reason . . .

"Why is it . . . that people like you always think they're more ruthless than people like ME?" (Best line in Weber's entire series, IMHO, second only to Shannon Foraker's "Oops.")

I'm more what would Cordelia do.

The first one, 'Shards of Honor'

Miles isn't born until later, his first novel is 'The Warrior's Apprentice'

Read some of the Honorverse, don't think I got to that one

Best Miles book not involving political escapades, mercenaries, or general mayhem, 'Mountains of Mourning'.
It explains a lot of the back story in Barayar, and why they are the way they are.

The Terekhov line about ruthless is probably the best line in the Honorverse series.

A very good one. I need to dig it out and read it again
