No, that's one thing I'm sure it's not; unless something's really off on the .300 chamber, 223 is too long to fit all the way.Guy I work with did some comparing, thinks someone put it in a 7.62x39.

Guy did some comparison, thinks it was a 7.62x39, the bulges do seem to match up fairly well.
