Can you imagine finding this?

The Marshfield Find: Extraordinary, Newly Discovered, Documented Mint Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action .45-90 WCF Rifle Time Capsule with Original Shipping Crate Containing Scabbard and Five Boxes of Ammunition, and Factory Letter

I'd look it all over and then probably have to sit down for a while.
All the information here.

Oh wow!
I know there's collectors who'd say "don't touch it you'll lower the value"
But if had the money, I'd have it cleaned and re-blued and shoot it.

Blued? And get rid of that case hardening?

That's what that is? I thought it was rust.
Sorry.

Re-blue a mint rifle? Thou varlet, stand in the corner with your face to the wall! May as well stick a folding polymer stock, picatinny rail and a red dot on it. It should be displayed in humidity and temperature control under uv-filtered glass, with a drool resistant marble viewing stand before it.

That's the original color case-hardening, as it came from the factory. Between handling and sunlight, most rifles it's faded out by this time.

Scroll through the other items in this sale. Lot 30. I did not know they made 44 rimfire ammo. Very impressive collection

Their site is a horrible place, causing twitchy fingers and drooling at times
