Trying to keep a cat on a vegan diet;

takes a real farging moron to try that.
Lort Smith Animal Hospital veterinarian Leanne Pinfold said the kitten was brought in this month by its owners, who were believed to be vegan.

She said the kitten's diet of potatoes, rice milk and pasta had caused it to become critically ill.

"It was extremely weak and collapsed when it came in. It was almost non-responsive," Dr Pinfold said.
Much like the owners' brains, then.

Back in the 80's we sublet the basement of a rental house to a vegetarian couple. The husband in particular tried to make their cat a vegetarian as well. Can't tell you how many times the cat came upstairs, begged for some food, and then ran around playing with our dog.

I went through some of the comments. Vegans complaining about the news, and telling of the great commercial vegan pet foods which can keep a cat or dog healthy.

Only, why? Cats are even more of a pure carnivore than dogs, why make them vegan? I can get, sort of, the point why somebody doesn't want to eat meat himself, but not why anybody should try to force that decision on anybody else, much less a pet which is a natural carnivore. If they are worried about factory farms or such I'm sure it's possible to find pet foods made from animals which have not been raised on those, and if somebody doesn't want to have anything to do with exploiting animals then damn it, don't take pets, especially not a carnivore. Get a rabbit or something. Forcing a carnivore to exist on a vegan diet is exploiting, the human is putting his needs ahead of those of the animal.

A while back daughter pointed me to a post by a lady who'd quit being vegan due to her doctor pointing out "Either you change, or you're gonna die. And it won't be a pleasant death." She actually got death threats from vegans for 'giving up' and causing harm to The Cause.

Some of those people actually think they can teach cats and dogs and whatever to stop eating meat, AND actually believe it's their duty to do so where they can. Freaking insane fanatics.
