Well, gee, why would Illinois want to know if you buy

gold?

Congratulations, guys; you've just given every student there reason not to trust a word coming out of your mouth.  I'm sure that'll pay great dividends in the future.

Hey, Biden; you and the others might want to read this, especially the last part:
I have lived my entire life on borrowed time and now in the twilight of my years, I have but one thing to say to those determined to take away or limit my right to own a firearm and to transform and destroy the greatest nation in the history of mankind.   I, and many like me, will not be intimidated and you will only accomplish your ultimate ends over our dead bodies.

Smallest Minority links to this piece on gun, violence, drugs and where the real homicide problem is.
Which won't be dealt with by the clowns most involved unless they can figure some way to use it to increase their power and influence, because that's what's really important.

Some moron on CNN with the standard lack of knowledge about the subject(well, damn near ANYTHING) gave a 'smart guns will save us!' story(and that really is the appropriate word); one of the responses Tam notes:
I want a cellphone with the reliability and durability of my Kalashnikov. Not the other way around.

Second City Cop has something to say on the mayor deciding "I want to do something, and I'm not patient!":
Of course, exactly ONE homicide was committed with a rifle in Chicago last year, so this will do what exactly? Oh yeah, deprive the owners of legal weapons of guns they almost never misuse while criminals (who never obeyed the law in the first place) continue to run amok.

And who's going to be enforcing this "ban?" Especially in light of the failure of every other gun ordinance in Chicago that fails to withstand court challenges?

We're rapidly approaching a point where Officers are going to be called upon to make choices. Choices that can (and will) lead to loss of personal assets, loss of jobs, or even worse when people decide they aren't turning in their guns peacefully.

And in those cases, we aren't going to say that the citizens are in the wrong
.
One comment: the mayor and the other leaders will insist that the citizens are in the wrong; they MUST be, as they aren't obeying the dictat of the Leader.

Connected to which, he got a response from Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) that includes this line:
Additionally, Senator Feinstein has stated her intent to introduce legislation concerning access to firearms at the start of the 113th Congress. To date, that legislation has not been introduced. As always, it is important that we not unnecessarily infringe on the legitimate Second Amendment rights of responsible gun owners. Don't you just love that critical word? Tells you a lot, probably more than Hagan hoped it would.
Note: when a politician uses 'unnecessarily' in such a way, it means "I don't want to admit how much I'm willing to screw you over."

Also, further down in another post,
The Citizen’s Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today issued a bristling response to Brady Campaign President Dan Gross, who insisted as he left the White House meeting with Vice President Joe Biden that the current push for more gun control “is not a debate around the Second Amendment.”.
.
“The hell it’s not,” CCRKBA Chairman Alan M. Gottlieb declared. “The right to keep and bear arms is at the core of this anti-gun campaign, and Dan Gross knows it.”.
.
The Brady Campaign is one of several so-called “gun safety” organizations that have already met with Vice President Biden and his gun control task force. Gottlieb challenged that definition..
.
“The Brady Campaign and other such organizations are all about gun prohibition, not safety,” he said. “They’re not interested in safety when all they want is to disarm law-abiding Americans and taking the best means of self-defense away from crime victims while doing nothing to disarm criminals..
.
“The White House calling the gun prohibition lobby a ‘gun safety’ group is tantamount to suggesting that Ted Bundy was an advocate for battered women,” he said.
