Well, it seems Amazon didn't delete

just the book from Kindle:
Justin Gawronski, a 17-year-old from the Detroit area, was reading “1984” on his Kindle for a summer assignment and lost all his notes and annotations when the file vanished. “They didn’t just take a book back, they stole my work,” he said.

Add that to this:
Amazon’s published terms of service agreement for the Kindle does not appear to give the company the right to delete purchases after they have been made. It says Amazon grants customers the right to keep a “permanent copy of the applicable digital content.”
And yet they did it anyway. And so far their main comment hasn't been "We shouldn't have done that", it's "We shouldn't have done it the way we did." Which isn't exactly comforting.

That's why I won't by one. Even though 99.9% of all books written are absolute crap, the theory is that books are too important to lose.

At least they admit they shouldn't have done that. Makes me feel a lot better inside.

Effing MORONS!
