I'm going to try something for this sixth evening,

None of this happened! Though it sounds vaguely like a headline for an article I might have written, there was never a Rolling Stone piece called “The Great California Water Heist,” and I’d never heard of the “Compton Pledge.”

More questions produced more fake tales of error-ridden articles. One entry claimed I got in trouble for a piece called “Glenn Beck’s War on Comedy,” after suggesting “a connection between a conservative donor, Foster Friess, and a left-wing activist group, the Ruckus Society.”

With each successive answer, Gemini didn’t “learn,” but instead began mixing up the fictional factoids from previous results and upping the ante, adding accusations of racism or bigotry. “The Great California Water Heist” turned into “The Great California Water Purge: How Nestle Bottled Its Way to a Billion-Dollar Empire—and Lied About It.” The “article” apparently featured this passage:

Look, if Nestle wants to avoid future public-relations problems, it should probably start by hiring executives whose noses aren’t shaped like giant penises.

I wouldn’t call that a good impersonation of my writing style, but it’s close enough that some would be fooled, which seems to be the idea.

Now it was horror time. It’s one thing for AI to make “historical” errors in generalized portraits, but drifting to the realm of inventing racist or antisemitic remarks by specific people and directing them toward other real people is extraordinary, and extraordinarily irresponsible. What if the real-life Smith saw this? Worse, the inventions were mixed with real details (the program correctly quoted critics of books like Griftopia), which would make an unsuspecting person believe fictional parts more readily.

This is doing real harm now; consider that some idiots are saying that journalists should use this mess in writing articles...  I wonder if someone using this to write a piece that flat lies about someone- as this did about Taibbi- when they knew the system, to be polite, has some bugs in it, that just might pass the line to allow someone to sue the journalist and any media he works for.

A conservative government watchdog has released almost 100 pages of FBI documents it says show the agency was not fully forthcoming about its actions surveilling and targeting Catholic churches.

“FBI Director Christopher Wray had told congressmen that the memo was ‘a single product by a single field office,’ but the records uncovered by Judicial Watch show that it was “Reviewed by: OGC/CDC [Office of General Counsel/Chief Deputy Counsel],'” Judicial Watch posted in a press release Friday.

Judicial Watch obtained the documents through a FOIA request related to an internal FBI memo leaked earlier this year, which revealed that the agency had efforts underway to identify and treat Catholics as “potential terrorists.”

“The records also indicate coordination with officials from Portland and Milwaukee,” the press release said.

Yesterday was fun

Along with the normal stuff I had to get a new tire for the bike, and son has the machine for changing that, so a short trip was made and the new tire put on the rim.

I knew the old was bad, but when real pressure was put on it to break the bead loose, jeez, little cracks all over.  If I'd realized it was that bad I'd have done it a fair while ago.

But I got to visit and pet the dogs, so it worked out.

This link is to a X post by Matt Walsh on the racial bullshit Google's Gemini is creating.  Short version, white people don't seem to exist, but black vikings, asian and Amerindian founding fathers and so forth it gives  you.(you don't have to have a X account to watch it)

As noted by a number of people, there's no way this is a 'processing error' or something, this is the deliberate design of  Google's setup, and it's political as hell as well as bigoted.

(But they have plenty of time to decide if a blog should be marked 'adult')

Just to see if get a response,

 asked if there's a way to put the 'adult content' crap on only the posts, or if it's supposed to go on the whole blog.

Short version, it's been a stressful couple of days,

and I may blow off blogging for a couple.  Or a few.  We'll see.

However, after a one hour and 45 minute anxious wait at her home near Swansea holding her mother Doreen's hand, the ambulance had still not arrived, forcing Karen to ring again - when she was told the wait was now a further eight hours.

To save her mother, the psychiatric nurse had to drag her into a wheelchair and carry her out of the house and into the car, with every movement causing immense pain to her mother's osteoarthritis-ridden body.
Followed by lots of "We're very sorry, and this isn't the level of service we want to give" and so forth.  Which is the same thing they'd say if she'd died while waiting.  And so forth.

The legislation would allow any child or teen under 18 to seek out and consent to medical treatment — including vaccines, dental procedures, hospitalization, and even surgery.

They would be able to do so without parental consent as long as the minor appears to have the mental capacity to make that decision.

Assembly Bill A6761, introduced by New York Assemblymember Karines Reyes (D-Bronx), also would allow Medicaid funds to pay for procedures and drugs administered to children.

I did finally remember to measure the diameter on the 500, it's .458", so I don't think it's that.

Maybe experiment with a different 500 and see if the same happens with it.

Update:  I measured the 405-grain bullets that shoot well, and they're .461.  Which means the bore just might be a bit oversize(an oversize bore in a 150-year-old rifle?  Horrors!)  So I probably need to slug the bore of said rifle if I can and find out just what it is.

Yesterday, the British Parliament changed the way it operates because the Speaker was afraid that some parliamentarians would be murdered if they couldn't be seen to vote for a ceasefire in a war on the other side of the world.

This isn't democracy. This is a country that is unwilling to live by its own rules in order to placate a violent mob.

And efforts are already being made to sweep this reality under the carpet as they did with the murder of Sir David Amess. We can't afford that. We have to be honest and admit it:

We have a problem with Islamist extremism that requires immediate and drastic action. Appeasement doesn't work. If intimidation and threats of violence produce results like the one we saw yesterday, this will only encourage more intimidation and threats of violence.

The government, both the major parties, the police and the security services need to understand we no longer have the luxury of pretending this issue away.
They never did have the luxury, they were just too chickenshit and PC to deal with it.  And now it's really started eating them and their country.
