In its letter to the organising committee, the authorities in Vienna, fearing that the monument may be perceived as anti-Turkish, stated that it was not an appropriate time to erect military monuments.

London authorities are hoping to literally stem the bleeding in response to a knife crime epidemic that's plaguing England and Wales.

The City of London Police announced Monday that hundreds of bars and nightclubs across the city will be soon be outfitted with specialized medical equipment meant to treat catastrophic bleeding from stab wounds.

A total of 320 "bleed control kits" will be supplied to late-night venues in London's financial district over the next few weeks, and follows a pilot program earlier this year in Birmingham.
Yeah, that's going to fix the problem...

The eye is improving

and vision improves as the gas level reduces, but the line is still there.  Which means when I look down to do something, it screws with seeing.  And, if anything, the wave is worse(smaller bubble in a bigger volume).

Teaching possible reporters to be journalists instead

The children who run the student newspaper at Northwestern recently disgraced themselves by issuing a groveling apology for . . . covering the news, in this case protests against a campus visit by Jeff Sessions. And that was their offense: taking photos, conducting interviews — you know, journalism. Students who were photographed or contacted for interviews complained that they were “traumatized” by this.

“We contributed to the harm students experienced,” the Northwestern editors wrote, “and we wanted to apologize for and address the mistakes that we made.” The main mistake they’ve made is mistaking themselves for journalistsreporters*. These kids are an embarrassment, but the problem did not start with them.
But they've damned sure learned the proper groveling when the make the mistake of actually doing the job.

I would have thought that the assaults, and attempted murders, and arsons, and censorship and so forth would've made that plain a long time ago.
Every now and again, it’s worth thinking about what the intersectional left’s ultimate endgame really is — and here it strikes me as both useful and fair to extrapolate from Kendi’s project. They seem not to genuinely believe in liberalism, liberal democracy, or persuasion. They have no clear foundational devotion to individual rights or freedom of speech. Rather, the ultimate aim seems to be running the entire country by fiat to purge it of racism (and every other intersectional “-ism” and “phobia”, while they’re at it). And they demand “disciplinary tools” by unelected bodies to enforce “a radical reorientation of our consciousness.” There is a word for this kind of politics and this kind of theory when it is fully and completely realized, and it is totalitarian.

Short version: "I hate guns, and I like the idea of a police state, it's just

that I want it done by rules I approve of!"

Which is what this boils down to.
I have agreed with everything Jacinda has argued right up until this enormous goose step towards a Police State…

UVA president Jim Ryan is an asshat.

At best.

The Provost’s office, in conjunction with the colonel of UVA’s ROTC program, made the decision. The ceremony marks the conclusion of a 24-hour vigil by ROTC cadets and has included the 21-gun salute for more than a decade.

“One is that it would be disruptive to classes and two, unfortunately with gun violence in the U.S., there was some concern that we would cause a panic if someone heard gunshots on grounds,” said UVA President Jim Ryan.

Bullshit.  Ryan or some other asshats wanted to get rid of it, and this is their excuse.  Next will be getting rid of ROTC entirely, because knowing that those horrible people are on campus causes some pussy to clutch his security blanket and seek a safe space.

One of the aftereffects of the procedure is

that as the gas/fluid interface moves, I now have a line across the (blurry still)vision in that eye.  Which is now across the upper field of view. 

Which means that when I walk that line has a wave pattern moving back & forth across it(jiggles a bit with heartbeats, soo).  As Og put it, my eye is now a damned bubble level.

I'll expand a bit.

This was a 'take out some fluid from the eyeball and replace it with gas' procedure, the gas is supposed to put pressure on the injury and keep it closed so it can heal.  Which, since the injury is at the back, that means staying face down as much as possible.  I was told three days in my case; the idea of doing it for a week, let alone a month or more, is horrifying.

Takes about two weeks for the gas to disperse and be replaced by fluid, so my vision in that eye is screwed(blurry as hell, improving as the gas volume reduces) for that time.

This crap better work.

Maybe some bitching and moaning about news stuff later.  Right now I'm more wondering how long it'll be before I can ride, and can shoot heavier stuff than .22s.

It was done, I'm still breathing,

though my neck aches like bleep from this 'face down all the time' part.
