You see ranchers ambling through Walmart with .45 caliber 1911s on their hips

in glorious Open Carry and nobody even bats an eyelash. In Minnesota, someone would dive under the Size 4XL Clearance Rack and call SWAT. In Arizona, you say “Good morning,” and the cowboy tips his Stetson and says, “Ma’am.”

One more reason to dump Common Core

Fine shooting, sir!
A British sniper in Afghanistan killed six insurgents with a single bullet after hitting the trigger switch of a suicide bomber whose device then exploded, The Telegraph has learnt.

The 20-year-old marksman, a Lance Corporal in the Coldstream Guards, hit his target from 930 yards (850 metres) away, killing the suicide bomber and five others around him caught in the blast.

"The school district is participating in the embattled Common Core curriculum." (From the link.)

That right there tells me the source has no idea what it's talking about.

Common Core is a set of standards and options in teaching methods, not a curriculum.

I'm not at all sure that "worksheet" is actually part of a Core-compliant curriculum, and it sure as hell is not the case that the content and its view of civil liberties is mandated or endorsed by Common Core.

I've looked at the Standards - they're available online for anyone to look like - and they don't say anything about specific content views.

(e.g. look at the High School social studies standards.

Not a damned word about ideological content or worldviews, just critical analysis and reading comprehension.

You could write a hard-line Communist curriculum and comply with Core standards.

Equally you could write a Classical Liberal or Libertarian curriculum and equally comply with the Core ELA standards; they're about teaching language skills, not Civics.

A Civics standard would be a damned useful thing - and so much of a fight to get accepted that it's not wonder nobody tried.)

Aw, I think I want to move to that town in Arizona, even if I can't stand hot temperatures well.
