made from iron bedposts; charge made of pieces of lead from curtain tape and match-heads, to be ignited by AA batteries and a broken light bulb

Whoa! At least the prisoners had the forethought (I was gonna say "were smart enuf") to make it double barreled, so when they proved it could work, they still had one chamber ready.

Amazing, isn't it? So many of the people locked up, if you could actually get them to straighten up, no telling how far they could go.

But so many of them don't want to change. Shame, really.

I've seen wire wool used as an ignition source for rock breaking charges, it is a lot easier than breaking a torch bulb correctly.
