On Sunday, the East Orlando Post reported startling words from James Copenhaver, whom it described as a “veteran investigator and former Orlando law enforcement officer.” Said Copenhaver:

I have been in this business for 30 years, and we all in law enforcement have talked about one of the theme parks getting hit by these terrorist killers. Never in all my years of training, and being involved in several investigative units, to include the FBI Task Force, would we have ever guessed a LGBT club be a target of an terrorist attack.

Why would they never have guessed?

Because the FBI and other law enforcement agencies don’t study Islam, and this is a direct result of Muslim groups demanding the removal of such material. Those who are committed to protecting us are taught to downplay and deny the motivating ideology behind jihad terror attacks.
You'd think that, even without training on the matter, the images of gays being thrown off buildings, and stoned to death, might have made just a little impression...

But apparently not.  Which is so idiotic, I can't really describe it.

Now the Drug Enforcement Administration wants that same kind of power, starting with access to an Oregon database containing the private medical data of more than a million people.

The DEA has claimed for years that under federal law it has the authority to access the state’s Prescription Drug Monitor Program database using only an “administrative subpoena.” These are unilaterally issued orders that do not require a showing of probable cause before a court, like what’s required to obtain a warrant.

In 2012 Oregon sued the DEA to prevent it from enforcing the subpoenas to snoop around its drug registry. Two years ago a U.S. District Court found in favor of the state, ruling that prescription data is covered by the Fourth Amendment’s protection against unlawful search and seizure.

But the DEA didn’t stop there. It appealed the ruling to the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco and has been fighting tooth and nail ever since to access Oregon’s files on its own terms.

Pupils at the Herder school in Kassel, Germany have been subjected to months of sexual assault by “much older” migrant males on their way to and from school, dating back as far as September 2015. The three girls aged between 16 and 18 were repeatedly touched inappropriately and verbally abused, but they refused to report the incidents to the police or their school because the perpetrators were “refugees”.

German newspaper the Hessian Niedersächsische Allgemeinereports the girls realised the “social-political” implications of their reporting their crimes, with the significant amount of press attention swirling around migrant sex assault, leading to them becoming what the paper identified as “paralysed by political correctness”.

One of the girls, identified by the pseudonym ‘Anna’, said of their decision to suppress the sex attacks: “We do not want refugees to be discriminated against. We do not want people making sweeping accusations [about migrants], [and we didn’t want to] foment bad blood”. The school says “many others may have experienced this harassment as well”.
Well and truly brainwashed.  I hope the idiots who taught them to think this way suffer for it, because these girls and who-knows-how-many others are.

Those .30-06 loaded with Green Dot?  Except for the 150-grain flat-points, bloody awful.  But I think I know why: on several shots the recoil(such as it is) and noise were noticeably less than others.  I suspect the Green Dot didn't feed smoothly through my Hornady measure, so I got varied charges.  I'm going to load some more, but I'll try the Lee measure.  If those don't come out evenly, I'll weigh the charges.


Ref the mention of .45-70s and recoil pads, I hadn't looked in a while; Limbsaver pads have gotten expensive.

The California state Senate voted 28-8 Wednesday to exempt itself from the pointless gun-control laws that apply to the rest of the populace. Legislators apparently think they alone are worthy to pack heat on the streets for personal protection, and the masses ought to wait until the police arrive.
You do have to remember that to the politicians they're not pointless; the point is to disarm the peasants so they'll be easier to control, and more dependent on the State.

The authors regret that there is an error in the published version of “Correlation not Causation: The Relationship between Personality Traits and Political Ideologies” American Journal of Political Science 56 (1), 34–51. The interpretation of the coding of the political attitude items in the descriptive and preliminary analyses portion of the manuscript was exactly reversed.
In line with the cynicism with which I view such nowadays, I tend to think this is more "Someone spotted our screwup and like it or not, we have to correct it, or someone will take away our library privileges or something."

If you continue with the explanation in the correction it would seem to suggest that someone simply transposed the data somewhere along the line during the coding steps. Or maybe the authors were hoping for a job with Dan Rather or Katie Couric if tenure didn’t come through? They are defending themselves by saying that the main point of the paper was to demonstrate the magnitude of correlations between personality traits and sociopolitical attitudes, and hence that the ideological direction of the correlation doesn’t matter. This doesn’t wash well with the great folks at the indispensible Retraction Watch, who interviewed one of the academics who spotted the mistake, Steven Ludeke of the University of Southern Denmark, who said:

The erroneous results represented some of the larger correlations between personality and politics ever reported; they were reported and interpreted, repeatedly, in the wrong direction; and then cited at rates that are (for this field) extremely high. And the relationship between personality and politics is, as we note in the paper, quite a “hot” topic, with a large number of new papers appearing every year. So although the errors do not matter for the result that the authors (rightly) see as their most important, I obviously think the errors themselves matter quite a lot, especially for what it says about the scientific process both pre- and post-review.

But somebody contrived to remove critical details, including Griswold’s name, from an “independent” review of the disaster, according to documents obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation. Officials at the Department of the Interior – and perhaps EPA – had access to the draft.

Griswold was temporarily the On-Scene Coordinator at the mine because the crew’s usual chief, OSC Steven Way, was on vacation and had left orders “not to touch” the mine’s entrance, a draft of the Bureau of Reclamation’s (BOR) review of the yellow flood obtained by TheDCNF shows. The EPA has argued Griswold was following Way’s orders, but neither official has been punished.
Nate Snorteland, an Army Corps of Engineer peer reviewer, had little doubt about what happened.

“EPA immediately began to remove material from the face at the Gold King Mine,” Snorteland wrote in his comments on the draft review, according to the documents reviewed by TheDCNF. “This is a serious oversight or poor decision that may have been the key factor in the blowout.”

Yet the final report omitted those key details.
Two things here: the EPA and Interior screwed with the report, which is disgusting(and what we've come to expect from these bastards);  but WHY did they start removing material?  What was going on in the heads of the idiots giving the orders?

Go read it all, if you have breakables out of reach.

Regardless, no one has been punished for the disaster, which likely will ultimately cost state and federal taxpayers millions of dollars.
Of course.  Because working for a federal agency means never paying a price for screwing things up this badly(or following idiot orders no matter the cost to others).

You may have heard of civil asset forfeiture.

That's where police can seize your property and cash without first proving you committed a crime; without a warrant and without arresting you, as long as they suspect that your property is somehow tied to a crime.

Now, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a device that also allows them to seize money in your bank account or on prepaid cards.

It's called an ERAD, or Electronic Recovery and Access to Data machine, and state police began using 16 of them last month.
Ain't it just bloody wonderful?
