and adding that to arthritis and a long few days of work and limb cutting/dragging/piling, I haven't written much the last few days.  So, to make up for that,

I don't know a lot on the subject, but you have to seriously fuck up for there to be TWO recommendations to be relieved of command, and actually relieved on the second. Wonder what Gordon did?

One of the perpetual yells of handloading (updated)

is mentioning a rifle load that uses pistol/shotgun powders, and the screams of "You'll blow that gun up!"

 

Be it noted that improper use of such powders CAN do anything from damage to destroy a rifle(and quite possibly injure you), so care is required.  But with cast bullets(I would never try these with jacketed*) there are a lot of tried & true uses for those powders in rifles.

 

One of them is '170 to 180-grain gas-checked bullet and 16.0 grains 2400' I first read about here(which also lists several other loads for numerous cartridges).  I've tried this in .30-06, .308, 7.62x54r, and .303 British with very good results.  

Another one is here, "The Load" is 13.0 Grains of Red Dot.  I haven't tried this one(just bought a pound of it to give this a try), but like the previous article this has been used but a lot of people for quite a few years with good results.

If you try these, take great care to do it right.  The #1 worry with these is that since they fill so little of the case compared to a rifle or black powder, it's easy to double-charge a case and not notice.  Which means(my methods) you either charge one case, then stick a bullet to make sure you can't do that, or if you charge more than one case check every damned one before you start seating bullets.  NO exceptions.

Two guys in line, one holding a pump shotgun- bolt closed- and the other holding a AR, with a mag in, couldn't see the right side, so start with

"Sir, could you open that shotgun for me?" 

He opened it, and the round that had been in the chamber is now loose in the receiver.  And he starts trying to dump it out, waving the damn thing in a horizontal direction.
"Point it up!"  Nothing.  "Point it UP!"  Still nothing.

At that point I'm going his way, happily the RSO beat me to it and got the scattergun pointed safely and started telling him, in detail, of his sins.  While he's doing that I tell the other guy to take the mag out of the AR.

And I don't think he knew how.  At this point I said something like "Give it to me", got it from him, and dropped the mag.  Which was loaded.  While the first guy was insisting "It's not loaded."  The bolt was closed, but- miraculously- didn't have one in the chamber.  I told him the mag damn well WAS loaded, and(short and emphatic lecture on not bringing loaded guns, especially out of a case, into the place).

Crap like this is why one of the "Reasons I may be fired someday" includes
"WHAT THE  HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?  GIVE THAT TO ME NOW!"*

*An option on this one is "GOD-DAMMIT, PUT IT DOWN!  NOW, YOU IDIOT!"

Because they waited until a week(the far-sighted ones) or the day before(far too many) the season opened to think "I ought to get some bullets!"

The prize was the guy who asked about .30-30, when told "We're out" said "So is everybody else!  What am I supposed to do, I should be on the road to Missouri already!"

Times I've gone deer hunting, I was making sure I had my stuff at least a month ahead of time.  Just because I was excited enough that I had to make sure everything was in order.  Throw in the political situation, waiting until the day before is just not a good idea.

This never happened. Many weeks passed where face masks were not needed and then suddenly in July, long after the majority of supposed COVID19 deaths had occurred, face masks were made compulsory.

Indeed, the UK government advice from the likes of Chris Whitty and the World Health Organisation was that face masks were not effective in stopping the spread of COVID19 or in contracting it; science does not change that quick – anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar.

The result is that we have now fallen deep into a Covidian Cult, a totalitarian psychotic narrative that has little connection to reality or to the facts. 

 

 

Now that the election is over, the NYeffingTimes admits "Y'know, those riots really screwed a lot of people.  And a lot of them were the minorities they were 'trying to help'."

Speaking of the past while,

here's a sequence of events:

Tuesday  the 27th, as the freezing rain was falling, I lost power early afternoon.  At that time it was just power, no damage.  About two hours later I went out to check things and found that a limb had fallen on the power line and damaged the connection to the meter.  So added that to the report to the electric company.

Little later, as I was out using a pruning pole to cut back everything I could reach- including from a ladder where some stuff was leaning over the back of the house- the weight proved too much and broke my internet line.

Yes, I was out in that mess a few times that day and the next trying to keep the damage from being worse.  Don't know if it helped, but nothing else got damaged, which I considered a good trade for freezing my ass off and having no good way to dry my gloves and coat off.  At least I didn't fall on my head or off the ladder.

Few years ago I bought an indoor-safe kerosene heater, and this was the first time I've had to use it.  It works, and was worth every penny.  I've also got a propane camping stove which allowed a little cooking, and making tea and hot chocolate and such.

Note: I'd planned on getting the kerosene can filled, and some more propane bottles, before winter; so of course this bloody mess hit very early.  Which is why it did so much damage: the leaves were still on the trees, so they were holding a LOT more weight than they could take.

One thing that did help is I've got a Aladdin oil lamp(similar to this one but with a metal tank).  They put out a lot of light, and some heat, so this time of year welcome on both parts.  I've got flashlights and a battery LED lantern, and spare batteries, but being able to use the lamp to read really was nice.

Due to having to get an electrician to fix the connection to the meter before they'd reconnect it, then waiting for someone to have the time to make the connection, I was down on power for ten days.  And only got the internet line repaired today(ATT lost/dumped my original report, which delayed things.  The bastards).

I did lose everything in the refrigerator, did manage to scrounge enough dry ice(barely) to save most of the stuff in the freezer.  

So there's the short version of my last couple of weeks.

About the acceptance of limits set by age.  Which, if you don't pay attention to, c@n lead to bad outcomes.

Yesterday consisted of replacing some of the groceries lost, some cleanup around here, then a BUNCH helping daughter cut, drag and stack downed limbs.  Suffice it to say that today will consist of stuff around the house as my body is informing me that it needs some rest.  Or else.

It was like Pravda and Izvestia working together for what they assured the Soviet public was their own good.

Of course, this was nonsense. The election is still on-going, still undecided, and will be for several weeks of legal challenges, many of them justified.

What occurred at 11:45 was basically a media psy-op (psychological operation), designed to depress and silence the roughly seventy-one million who voted for Trump and rally the seventy-some million, if they indeed exist, who voted for Biden.

The truth is, in a democracy and/or a democratic republic …

No media organization has the right to “call” an election. Period.

Yes, it is.  And the bastards know it.  And will still squeal and rage in denial when called on their bullshit.

An update

Thanks to ATT effing-up the original trouble call, no internet at home for another few days.

Lost all in the fridge and a few small things in the freezer; the stuff in the latter I'd really worried about seem to have stayed solidly frozen.  Grocery shopping this week.

On the latter, if the power hadn't been reconnected when it did the next morning I'd have had to find more dry ice.

The downed stuff in the yard is all piled at the curb for when the city decides to start picking it up.

Once more I have to note that, had I a .22 suppressor I'd be tempted to set up a sight blocker of some kind and use it to prune some branches too high to reach.

This was one hell of a mess.  If it'd hit a month later, when most of the leaves were down, might have been half as bad.
