Stuff clearing

How screwed is Mexico?

Intense fighting has erupted in the Mexican city of Culiacán, where masked gunmen threw up burning barricades and traded gunfire with security forces after authorities arrested one of the sons of the jailed former leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.
...
However, the patrol was quickly overpowered by cartel gunmen, and the decision was taken to withdraw to protect the lives of the National Guard and restore calm in the city, where gangsters had set up roadblocks and were unleashing heavy automatic gunfire, Durazo said.
...
“The decision was taken to retreat from the house, without Guzman to try to avoid more violence in the area and preserve the lives of our personnel and recover calm in the city,” Durazo said.

Miguel notes
By this decision, the President recognizes that the state of Sinaloa is in total ownership of Chapo Jr. and the Cartel and they are incapable to remove them.  Mexico is not being held hostage by the Cartels: they were bought by them. Elected Government is just but a fake veneer of legality to still show an image of “stability” to the world.

If nothing changes, I give it about a decade before we have our first Narco Regime with a Capo openly being the Head of State and the rest of the Cartels with a piece of the country. Just like Lucky Luciano did creating The Commission but write large and in full disclosure.

Friday evening and downright pleasant,

so check the data later.

I don't care if it works,

I think I'll skip this position.

A range day was had

Turned out to be a fine day for it, though when I quit it was getting downright busy out there.

Couple of results
Lyman Postell bullet, 525 grains, 35.0 Blackhorn 209.  That high one
was the first(clean barrel?), and I think that lowest was my fault, twitched a bit on trigger break.  Realistically, unless I find a place to shoot longer distances(this was 200 yards), I think this load will work just fine for future shooting.  It's been consistently accurate, and it's entirely possible that it'd group tighter with better eyes aiming it.

One I found really happy-making
Those five were shot at 200 yards with a Springfield 1922 M2 .22 rifle, using Federal Champion ammo.
A: Lord, it was pretty, and it shoots like that.
B: I've consistently had damn good results from that ammo, including a Martini Model 12 that shoots equal to or better with it than with match ammo.

I had some black powder loads I wanted to test, but I found I'd forgotten my blow tube.  And there were no straws in the truck.  So next time with those.

Oh, that white background for the targets?  With iron sights at that distance I need good contrast between the target and the stand, so stapled some white paper up.  Worked great.

Ho-lee crap

'Intense fighting' including trucks with heavy machine guns mounted in the back.

'Extinction Rebellion', eh? You first,

you effing clowns.

Finally one of these idiots gets dragged off a train, though he got off lightly.
Before long the reaction to some idiot gluing himself to a train is going to be 'full speed ahead, if the glue's good he won't fall off, and if he does, who cares?"  Or "Awright, you big lads grab the legs and start pulling, we'll see if the glue or the skin gives way first."

A hastily-deleted tweet comparing themselves to icon of the nonviolent black civil rights movement, Rosa Parks, was also met with opprobrium from social media users.
Well, gee, no shit?

The real winner:
The group's leaders have called off a planned protest at Gatwick airport 'in light of' the response to the Tube disruption and a spokesman said the group would 'take stock' before disrupting the Underground any further.
Translation: "We do this again and someone's going to seriously put the boot in, they're sick of us."

Ignore all the "We must deal properly with the climate emergency" bullshit

and pay attention to what's starting: if the cops won't get these idiots out of the way, the people they're screwing with will.

Coming to a city near you one of these days when antifa & Co. start their crap and people get tired of it.

Equivalent of "How dare you investigate pedophile and active homosexual priests,

they don't represent the Church!"  No, they don't, but people damn well need to know about them.
More than 17,000 people have demanded the BBC take down a documentary about young Iraqi girls being sold for sex - calling it 'disrespectful' to law-abiding Shia Muslims.

The corporation broadcast 'Undercover With The Clerics - Iraq's Secret Sex Trade' on October 3 - an investigation into sexual exploitation of children and young women by clerics in Iraq.

Journalists caught clerics offering 'pleasure marriages' to girls as young as nine - where men banned from sex outside marriage can pay a dowry for an interim wife.

The practice is banned in Iraq but eight out of 10 Shia clerics who were approached were willing to carry it out, the BBC World investigation found.
You want to be upset, be upset at the bastards doing this.

This is real interesting,

with some serious long-term consequences.
Though the trial lasted less than a week, Selna deliberated for more than year. In April, he issued a tentative order in which he determined that the ATF had improperly classified the AR-15 lower receivers in Roh's case as firearms.

He rejected the prosecution's argument that the ATF's interpretation of the regulation describing a receiver could reasonably be applied to the device at issue in Roh's case.

"There is a disconnect," the judge wrote.

Selna added that the combination of the federal law and regulation governing the manufacturing of receivers is "unconstitutionally vague" as applied in the case against Roh.

"No reasonable person would understand that a part constitutes a receiver where it lacks the components specified in the regulation," Selna wrote.

Therefore, the judge determined, "Roh did not violate the law by manufacturing receivers."

The judge's tentative order also found that the ATF's in-house classification process failed to comply with federal rule-making procedures. Changes to substantive federal regulations typically include a notice-and-comment period and eventual publication in the Federal Register.

"Why don't you trust the Professional Journalists?"

Because so many of the bastards are incompetent, stupid, bigoted, or a combination thereof.

Scene from the range

This one applies to just about any store:
You start the check-in process.
Get to the end and "We have discount cards!"
But you can't find the cards.
So you show me a receipt that has nothing to do with the cards.
One of you goes back to the other counter while the others stand there.
Finally come back, with cards.  Get that done.
About to hit 'pay now' when "Oh, I need some bullets."
And about two more "Oh, I also" things after that.
All the while there are people backed up but I can't do anything about them because you keep dragging this whole mess out...

Either have your damned card with you, or just pay and go shoot, stop thinking you're the only one there.

Not as cold as last night, but

still nice to be inside checking new data

The dick running Dick's ought to be sued by stockholders

for deliberately damaging their investments.
The CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods told CBS News this weekend that his decisions to stop selling certain guns and hire lobbyists to push for new gun bans have cost his company roughly $250 million.
...
That is consistent with Stack's previous statements on the losses associated with his decision. In the company's 2018 annual report, he wrote that gun sales were a "sizeable part" of Dick's business and that his push for the company to support new gun control laws significantly hurt that business. However, this did not make him reconsider his decision to use company resources to lobby for gun control and to remove certain guns from stores.
"Screw your investments, I have virtue to signal and social engineering to pursue!"

"Racism is bad!

Except when we're doing it!"

From the same asshats who thought it was better to hire illegal aliens than vets.

Damn, it turned a bit cold out there,

making for good conditions to stay in and study

If this is correct, the murderer in Halle, Germany used homemade weapons

Firearms and ammo both.
Looks like all those Bloomberg and Watts-approved anti-gun laws didn't stop him, for some reason.

"...when Charles Martel and his “northern men of robust limbs and iron hands stood like an unmovable wall of ice and cut the Arabs to pieces,”

The Battle of Tours.  Where, I once read, Charles Martel got the name Charles the Hammer.

A critical battle, as much so as the two Sieges of Vienna and the defeat of the Ottomans there.

When I mentioned that .300 Blackout load,

I was referred(thanks Mel) to the Hornady Ballistic Calculator and I've been playing with it.  By what the book says about velocity with that charge, and the ballistic coefficient of the bullet*, looks like at 150 yards it would be 3.2" high, at 250 6.2" low.

Wonderful what tools we have to play with nowadays.

* can't remember if he was using the 110 grain Varmint or V-max bullet

Good grief, Piers Morgan is making sense again

When Morgan then asked her if she had a T.V. at her home and if her children use computers, Rathor said she did not think it was relevant to "the planet emergency."

“Do you see the problem with all this? You go on about ‘My kids can’t get out of bed because they’re all so terrified,’ I’m not surprised they're terrified because your mum’s telling them everyday the planet’s about to end, and yet, I bet your own carbon footprint, for all the stuff I’ve just mentioned is terrible," Morgan said.
Her defense?
Rathor said the problem is not about individual carbon footprints, but it is a "system-wide issue" and said she would not be able to "raise the alarm" about the issue if she did not participate in the system.
Translation: "It's like di Caprio and the superyachts, and the Prince and all those private flights, we HAVE TO!"

The prosecution rests.

"What do I say after a shooting?"

Good piece.  Includes
Most people err in providing TOO MUCH information to the police.  That’s why there are so many experts instructing armed citizens to “say nothing” to responding police officers.  Saying nothing is BETTER than saying too much but it may not be the BEST course of action.

I think Massad Ayoob provides the best advice here.  In his work as a police officer, prosecutor, and expert witness, he has seen it all and knows what works.  His suggestions in The Armed Citizens Legal Network Journal are as follows:

Massad Ayoob’s Five-Point Checklist
1.     Tell responding officers “I’m the victim; he is the perpetrator.”
2.     Tell responding officers, “I will sign a complaint.”
3.     Point out pertinent evidence.
4.     Point out any witnesses who saw what happened.
5.     If there is any hint that you are a suspect, say “Officer, you will have my full cooperation after I have counsel here.

Watched some shots with .300 Blackout the other day

using 110-grain Hornady bullets over 19.0 W296.  He was zeroed 2.5" high at 100, and that put them dead-on at 200.  So for various purposes should need no compensation out to, I'd guess 250.  Probably have dropped a fair bit at 300.

I was trying some black powder loads in .45-70, but light was such I had problems at 200.  I'd really like to figure a way to mount a scope on the thing for load testing without drilling and tapping holes.

Hockey-stick Mann is going to lose his ass

I linked to this before, there are updates at the end, including(from Technology.News)
Penn State climate scientist, Michael 'hockey stick' Mann commits contempt of court in the 'climate science trial of the century.' Prominent alarmist shockingly defies judge and refuses to surrender data for open court examination. Only possible outcome: Mann's humiliation, defeat and likely criminal investigation in the U.S.
...
Michael Mann, who chose to file what many consider to be a cynical SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) libel suit in the British Columbia Supreme Court, Vancouver six long years ago, has astonished legal experts by refusing to comply with the court direction to hand over all his disputed graph's data. Mann's iconic hockey stick has been relied upon by the UN's IPCC and western governments as crucial evidence for the science of 'man-made global warming.' (snip) The negative and unresponsive actions of Dr Mann and his lawyer, Roger McConchie, are expected to infuriate the judge and be the signal for the collapse of Mann's multi-million dollar libel suit against Dr Ball. It will be music to the ears of so-called 'climate deniers' like President Donald Trump and his EPA Chief, Scott Pruitt.

Mann's been trying to spin this as no big deal; he's lying.

Kamala Harris: "Let's have a discussion(aside: 'shut that bitch up')"

Considering her prosecutor and AG record, anyone really surprised?
Harris appeared willing to hear Slone out until she heard the term "ERPOs."

"Mrs. Harris, I'm a domestic violence survivor and I'd like to talk to you about ERPOs," Slone said in the video. Harris nodded in agreement

"Okay. Let's have that chat," Slone said with a smile as she waited.

At that point, two of Harris' staffers physically blocked Slone from getting closer to ask her questions or engage with Harris any further.
Hey, you can't have some troublesome bitch commoner causing problems for Her (party-proclaimed) Grace, can you?

"It's registration, but

we won't call it that(or admit to it), so you don't have to worry."
Murphy is a lying bastard.
