Maya Forstater took to Twitter to point out that it was hardly surprising that the findings showed women having similar clinical features as males when almost half the “women” studied were male.

Others suggested that publishing such a study would undermine the public’s trust in the medical world.

“Same people doing these studies are the folks angry that people are not trusting medical authorities and consuming ‘misinformation’,” tweeted Jeremy Carl, a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute.

Others took issue with the use of ideological terms such as “cis” and “assigned female at birth,” arguing that this discredits the scientific journal.

This is not the first time The Lancet has opted to use the language of gender ideology over scientific terminology. Last year, the cover of its September edition used the term “bodies with vaginas” to describe women.

Place I worked for so many years used 24-hour time,

which I was used to.  My problem was at home: it was shift work, and there were times I'd wake up, look at my 12-hour clock, and- especially in winter with so much dark- have to get up and figure out if I could go back to sleep or had to get up.

So when I found an alarm clock that would set to 24-hour, it was wonderful.  Still  have it, but now it won't set to 24-hour.  Not much problem now that I'm not getting up at 11 or 12 at night to get ready for work, but I miss it a bit.

The Swedes were right about lockdowns, masks, and other Wuhan stuff, too.

The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare (NBHW) published new treatment guidelines for youth with gender dysphoria last week that explicitly instruct medical providers that psychosocial support should be the first line of treatment. The updated guidelines follow a 2021 policy change that jettisoned the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to treat gender dysphoric youth, outside of a clinical research setting.

“Psychosocial support that helps the young person live with the body’s pubertal development without medication needs to be the first option when choosing care measures,” the guidelines read, according to the Society for Evidence-based Gender Medicine.

The NBHW “deems that the risks of puberty suppressing treatment with GnRH-analogues and gender-affirming hormonal treatment currently outweigh the possible benefits, and that the treatments should be offered only in exceptional cases.”

I was able to retire.  Because if I had to make an 8-hour five days a week job* I just might die.  Or wish I would.

Seriously.  The front that came through yesterday was bad.  Lately, when I first get up the knees are pretty good, start troubling after being up and around some; this morning they ached just getting up.  The idea of putting on the work attire and heading out... no, thank you.  Part-time is about all I can do.  Oh, I could do full-time if I had to, but it would suck.

I'm very aware that, not that far back in history, I'd have died at about 30 when my appendix suddenly decided it wanted out.  For that matter, an infection last year came closer than is comfortable to punching my ticket.  Raising hell about bad medical advice/methods is necessary, so is acknowledging really striking advances.  Until antibiotics people commonly died from that infection, and others.**  Nobody dies of tetanus now unless they, for some reason, cannot or will not get the vaccine(one that actually works).  Other things like that.  My bitching about all the pills I'm currently taking doesn't change the fact that I'd be far worse crippled without some of it.  Not to mention being able to see thanks to some of those methods and techniques.

Speaking of advances, I'd asked the eye surgeon what they used for scalpels; most of what he uses is diamond, which can be polished to incredible sharpness and smoothness.

 It's supposed to warm a bit the next few days, more around normal average, and maybe I can get some yard stuff done.  Which would be nice, both to be outside in the sun and clean the leaves and such up a bit.  Hopefully.

*That's not counting the days at the old profession when something happened and had to get in early or stay late.  Also not including the "I need to take a while now to do the PT stuff."

** A while after the infection episode a guy at work asked why I'd been gone, I told him about it.  When I named the bacteria, he actually paled a bit and said "That's what killed my uncle!"  Even with antibiotics, if it's not caught in time, or you happen to be a bit more  vulnerable to it...

Part of the weirdness related to weather, I guess

The left knee has been aching/hurting worse than the right.  Since the right had the surgery in October, that just doesn't seem right.

I'm not sure whether to sit here going "Hurry up Spring!" for warmer temps, or dread it for the dueling weather fronts.

Added: the bit of warmup from the polar surge had started, and today we have a new cold front, which seems to be the cause.  Oh yes, I want spring, even if it brings tornado season.
