There _are_ neighborhoods were it is easier to buy an (illegal) gun than a book - because there isn't much market for books. This is once again the fallacy that crooks will follow the law if you just write more laws. This comment summed up the issue well:

in those black neighborhoods it is easier to buy drugs than a book or vegies as well and they are banned and illegal, so how would banning guns be any different?
