Founders vs. Biden & Co.

"Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state government, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people" (Tench Coxe)

"I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for few public officials." (George Mason)

"The Constitution shall never be construed....to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms" (Samuel Adams)

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence ... From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable . . . the very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that is good" (George Washington)
Windy notes that the above is considered apocryphal; so here's one that's not:
"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government

vs.

“And lastly, but not least, the Assault Weapons ban and the limitation on the size of magazines, let me say this as clearly as I can: this is just the beginning. We believe that weapons of war have no place on our streets. That’s the message that the retired admirals and generals have spoken to us about. The comment one of them used was: if you want to learn how to use a semi-automatic weapon, join the United States military, but these are weapons of war, and we believe there’s no rational reason why someone would need a clip that can hold fifteen, twenty, thirty, one-hundred bullets, one-hundred rounds. We have to do more and we will do more.”  (Joe Biden)

Please note a couple of things in particular:
...if you want to learn how to use a semi-automatic weapon, join the United States military...
Got that? Now SEMI-AUTO firearms are 'weapons of war.
And he makes it plain that most standard-capacity magazines are too big to suit him.
No trust in the people, a serious fear and loathing of the commoners possessing arms; reminds me of something...*

"If I could have banned them all - Mr. And Mrs. America turn in your guns - I would have!" (Senator Diane Feinstein)

"When we got organized as a country, they wrote a fairly radical Constitution, with a radical Bill of Rights, giving radical amounts of freedom to Americans, it was assumed that Americans who had that freedom would use it responsibly. When personal freedom is being abused, you have to move to limit it." - (Bill Clinton)

"Gun registration is not enough. Waiting periods are only a step. Registration is only a step. The prohibition of private firearms is the goal." - (Janet Reno)

*"Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA, ordinary citizens don't need guns, as their having guns doesn't serve the State." - Heinrich Himmler

Ummm, the "liberty Teeth" quote is considered apocryphal.

Oh, and Billy Boy BJ Bill:
Is that why the first amendment has such an expansive interpretation nowadays? It can't be abused? Or did some old dead white Euoropean-descended American male Judge decide that the proper remedy for bad or harmful speech was more speech? At least until someone reread 1984 and decided to invent hatespeech and speechcodes.
