Cuomo indicated the state will likely force some kind of permit process on owners of semi-automatic “assault weapons.” In addition to generating revenue and expanding the size and reach of government, the effort will allow the state to confiscate the weapons of citizens who do not comply.
“Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it,” the governor said.
"You will surrender your property, or we'll jail or kill you" is what it boils down to.
They really want to be Stalin, don't they?

The experiences of the Canadian Long gun registry provide a clue of what to expect.
Many guns and owners were never registered.
Many guns and owners registered never existed.
Many none existent guns were registered to actually existing people, and the registration fees paid by someone else.
Add onto that the bogus and the incorrect entries made by temporary data input staff, who couldn't tell one end of a gun from the other, or were so pissed with their boring jobs that they made deliberate mistakes.
Sure, alcohol prohibition, the war on drugs and British and Canadian gun registration and confiscation schemes (and simillar schemes in NY, Chicago and DC) have all been such a roaring success, what could possibly go wrong this time?
"Generating revenue" says it all.
