Just because it's appropriate to pile on the deceased idiot,

A People's History of the United States is a piece of shit. It is badly written, intellectually dishonest and insultingly shallow Marxist propaganda. Needless to say, it served as a college textbook for many years. That anyone would use it in a classroom tells you just about all you need to know about academic historians these days.

Someday I'll make the trek to Zinn's grave, and on it will leave these three books:

  • Paul Johson's A History of the American People
  • Stéphane Courtois' (editor) The Black Book of Communism: Crimes, Terror, Repression
  • John Earl Haynes' and Harvey Klehr's In Denial: Historians, Communism and Espionage

Dennis apparently liked him even less than I did

I had a German exchange teacher in my Sophomoe year of Hah Skrool. Our text was by Zinn. Dr. Jungwirth left the books in a stack on the floor at the back of the room and taught out of books from the library. He said Zinn was firstly an intellectual midget and secondly dead wrong at least 90% of the time. I had Dr. J. for US History, Latin, and German III and IV. I actually learned things from him. Useful things. Not so much from all the other timewasting classes I had to take.

Dennis Prager interviewed Zinn a couple of years ago, and Zinn could not even acknowledge that on balance the US's actions in WW2 were net good (not even 50%+ .000000000001).

Instead of books, maybe a wooden stake would be more apropriate, since it seems the ideas of Marxism are about as immortal as ol' Drac.
