Yes, they were royalty, etc., doesn't mean you can't recognize some good ones

Warwick University’s Prof Richard Aldrich adds: “He says everybody is going to stay and going to fight. He says, ‘I want to get my German. I want to at least kill one of the invaders and we will all fight to the last.’

“When Churchill hears of this he says, ‘You need to be able to kill more than one German.’”

So he sent the King a Tommy gun and the Queen Mum, Elizabeth, 14, and Margaret, ten, also learned to use it.

Describing the wartime scenes Prof Aldrich says: “The royal family and equerries are all practising with pistols, rifles and Churchill’s Tommy gun. The Queen Mother enjoys taking pot-shots at rats in Buckingham Palace’s gardens.

Long time ago I read something from a Brit who said that a lot of people who hated the Royals made an exception for the Queen Mum, who'd been queen during WWII.  She was in the habit, during the Blitz. of taking the family out in the day to visit neighborhoods that'd been bombed and talk to and encourage people.

During one of these some reporter asked if the rumor was true that she and the kids were going to be going to Canada or America for safety.  She said "The children are not going unless I go, I will not go unless the King goes, and the King is leaving under no circumstances whatsoever."

That left an impression, thus those people who hated the Royals overall, but don't you say bad things about her.

An amputation a looong time ago, using stone tools, (link fixed)

and the patient survived for years.

I've said it before: our distant ancestors were not stupid.

Not a good thing to find in your box of ammo

New box of Winchester white box, .45acp.  Guy aimed, pulled the trigger, click.  Ejected the round to see if a light strike, and
Powder charge, but no primer.  Things are being produced so fast that stuff is slipping through QC.

Mike Rowe is a treasure

He told the Post-Gazette he is dumbfounded by the Biden administration’s decision to place the burden on the very people we should be rewarding for their choices and skills.

“For every five tradespeople that leave the field this year, two will replace them, and it has been that for nearly a decade — we are looking at a crisis in the skilled labor market unlike anything we’ve ever seen — it’s just math,” Rowe said.

“So, if you ask yourself, ‘Well, what does this decision do to encourage more people to get into the trades?’ The answer is: nothing. If you ask, ‘What does this decision do to get more of those 11 and a half million open jobs filled with people that have the proper training?’ The answer is: nothing. And if you ask yourself, ‘What does this decision do to encourage universities to charge even more money than they’re charging right now?’ The answer is: everything.”

When son started his career as a machinist, his first two jobs he was one of the youngest people in the shop.  Up in Washington Boeing and associated companies were halfway to panic because huge numbers of older machinists, lots of them masters, were going to be able to start retiring in the next couple of years, and there were not nearly enough new guys to replace them.

Place he's at now, he's in his late thirties and the youngest guy in the place.  These are real jobs with real futures that pay well.  You work at it and get better, very well.  Lots of other skilled trades begging for people.  But clowns like Biden and Faucahontas and others do nothing to encourage kids to go into them, EVERYTHING is "YOU MUST GO TO COLLEGE!"

Either they don't understand what they're doing, or they want to damage lots and lots of kids, and the country.

The hand is getting better, and along with that is (link added)

this antibiotic seems to screw with my stomach some.  Not horribly, but some.

Right now I'm damned tired, and going to clean up and sit a bit before collapsing into-hopefully- some decent sleep.

Added: I looked online for some information on cellulitis infections, and this is the simplest, and has this attention-getting line:
Left untreated, the infection can spread to the lymph nodes and bloodstream and rapidly become life-threatening. It isn't usually spread from person to person.
I suspect I came closer to checking out last year than I really like to contemplate.

It has reached that 7th evening, so

some effort was put into getting things together.  Yes, I can type with that hand, though between arthritis and this fingers sometimes don't go quite where I want them.  In any case,

At this point I think this bacterium has a dislike for me in particular

Woke up yesterday with my right hand sore a a little swollen in an area.  And then it got worse over the next several hours, finally sending me to the ER.

Yes, I called the regular doc's office.  Damn near everyone already out of the office for the holiday, and the one still there tied up all day.

Get there, get checked in, they're looking for any sign of bites in case something venomous got me, then lots of blood for tests, and I'd been right: the same cellulitis infection that I got in my foot last year.  This time it wasn't nearly as advanced as when that case decided to tell me it was an actual problem: a big-ass dose of IV antibiotics, a prescription for oral to continue, and could leave.

That's good.  The bad is there is something I was set up to do next week, and needed to see if this means it should be rescheduled, except-say it again- everybody's already out for the bloody weekend.  Which means it'll be Tuesday morning before can get hold of anyone.

Ain't it just so effing fun at times?

Sixth evening it is, and after today,

let's just say I can do without another such day.  So to the data we go

From what I've seen of that speech last night,

he's almost completely lost his mind, and the people who set that up are morons.

When it's a Democrat President and a bunch of the loyalists on CNN and ABC- among others- are talking about what a mistake this was...  And most of the networks wouldn't cover it...

Borrowing from Legal Insurrection,
“Joe Biden’s address in Philadelphia tonight is one of the most menacing, bitter, angry and divisive speeches in modern US political history. Hard to believe that a US president can stoop to this level, condemning tens of millions of Americans as enemies and a threat to democracy.”

As someone else put it,

You get the feeling that a bunch of Democrats are thinking "This is going WAY too far, and it won't end well."  It's been pointed out numerous times that Hillary Clinton's 'basket of deplorables' crap helped cost her the 2016 election; a bunch of people are probably thinking that this could cost Democrats badly in November.

Ever notice that adulthood sometimes feels like

"I have to take care of this, but no matter what I do it's going to feel like I did it wrong or did the wrong thing."?

I managed to get some of the dead wood cut out of the holly trees

before the humidity told me to go back inside.  The rain was fine, but the next few days at these temperatures...

So a little work was done inside after that.  More needed, as always.

Since I'm still not wanting to write about current events, a bit of clearing is called for
