If there was a decoration he wasn't awarded, it was probably because there wasn't enough room for him to wear it.
They made a movie about him, and I've read that someone convinced him to play himself in it. He showed up on the set to talk to the director, who asked who he was. "I'm Audie Murphy."
"No you're not, you're too small and too young."
Took a while to convince him.

When I was a kid I asked my dad why they had a shrimpy, little guy like Audie Murphy playing the hero in all kinds of movies. I certainly had a holy shit moment when he explained who Audie was in real life.........
"It's not the size of the dog in the fight it's the batshit crazy will to live no matter how many $^%^-%# want you dead"
