It'll be a punishment that they'll understand, and it'll send a message to a lot of others.
The Eighth Circuit held that the arrest violated the Fourth Amendment,
because the police lacked probable cause to believe the speech was
threatening—and this was so clear that the police were not entitled to qualified immunity:

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.....if it goes anywhere. While in theory the badgemonkeys can be stripped of
their "qualified immunity" in reality that is rarer than hens teeth.
What will likely happen is a settlement will be offered....which of course will be paid for ultimately by the taxpayer because the
the badgemonkey union will threaten the city and FORCE it to assume
the liability for the criminality of the badgemonkeys. The number of times where badgemonkeys are imprisoned for breaking the law is exceedingly rare. The number of times they are held CIVILLY LIABLE for their misconduct is approaches zero.
