America doesn't have a gun problem, it has

a gang problem."
Yep.  Check the numbers:
So what is happening in Chicago to drive it to the gates of hell ahead of Zimbabwe and Rwanda?

A breakdown of the Chicago killing fields shows that 83% of those murdered in Chicago last year had criminal records. In Philly, it’s 75%. In Milwaukee it’s 77% percent. In New Orleans, it’s 64%. In Baltimore, it’s 91%. Many were felons who had served time. And as many as 80% of the homicides were gang related.

Chicago’s problem isn’t guns; it’s gangs. Gun control efforts in Chicago or any other major city are doomed because gangs represent organized crime networks which stretch down to Mexico, and trying to cut off their gun supply will be as effective as trying to cut off their drug supply.

More at the post.  Which reminds me of something I posted on before:
...Can't remember the ladies name, the show was on KTOK in the afternoons. Not my favorite show, but tended to listen most days.

One afternoon I was driving south and had her on while she was going on about the 'murder epidemic' in the U.S. and touching on the need for more gun laws(early 80's I believe) because things were 'so much better' in Britain, etc. A guy called in and pointed out the same problem noted in Kevin's post, that if you weren't an inner-city minority male, you weren't facing an 'epidemic; that the mess there was primarily gang- and drug-related, and that if you subtracted those numbers from our homicide rate, our numbers were actually very close to those of Britain. She asked him "Then what's the answer?" and he replied he didn't know what the whole answer to it was.

And she absolutely savaged him. "How dare you say such things without having an answer for them", etc. And the next guy who called in started off with "And he'll tell you 'some of his friends are black', won't he?", and the two of them spent the next couple of minutes talking about how obviously the guy was a racist, and so forth.

And I turned her off. And I never listened to her show again. That was the first time I can remember I actually got hit with the bullshit that taking note of a problem made you a racist/bigot/homophobe/(fill in the insult).

That was long before I heard Denny's term Race Warlord Poverty Pimp.  That was before it became a general club to yell RACIST!!! at anyone who brought up inconvenient facts.
It's the standard of the socialist left anymore.
And one of the big reasons the term 'racist' doesn't mean much anymore.

I think the time is coming when we're going to have to embrace racism, rather than run from it. We often hear of "the racist origins of gun control." Well, maybe those racists had a point. It's not the white NRA member who's causing the inflated murder statistics in the country, it's the urban gangbanger, and we need to start pointing it out, and pushing back hard when the race card is played.

I agree with the summary of the figures, as does the US DOJ

http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/homicide/race.cfm

(notice that the DOJ's graphs have not been updated to show the continuing declines in homicide rate since the last law banning guns with cosmetics that might frighten a socialist politician, expired)

However once you start to break the aggregates of "black" and "white" down, the picture disappears; it is more "young, urban, male, unemployed"

which happens,

thanks to minimum wages (state and labour union imposed), crap state sector schools, welfare dependency that discriminates against forming stable families, disincentive to provide private sector rental housing etc etc etc

to be predominantly black

add in the money to be made in the (different meaning of black) black market, due to prohibition.

add in again, that the cops work to prevent a stable system of street level supply from getting established

you no longer need to deal with an Al Capone character if you want a bottle of scotch, what would be different if drugs prohibition ended?

Don't fall for the "them versus us" division that the politicians of both colours want to exploit.

Harangue the politicians and the labour union thugs for the problems of minimum wage and welfare subsidies for dysfunctionality keeping people unemployed and anti social,

and for prohibition encouraging gangsterism

The deep Irony is, if guns are prohibited, your friendly local drug pusher could end up being your best source of ammo

Pointing out inconvenient facts is, variously, racist, sexist, islamophobic, homophobic, xenophobic, intolerant, or generally bigoted, depending on where the pointer of the spinner stops. Under today's media regime, that little boy in "The Emperor's New Clothes" had one chance to recant, or he'd be on Thorazine in a mental hospital under a fictitious name for the rest of his life!
