So today, just to try it, used different shoes than the old yard shoes. And, so far today, the feet are better. Why the HELL the shoes would make such a difference on feet when you're just pushing pedals, I have no idea. Knees I can see some upset just at the exercise, but feet?
My back's been acting up a bit as well, which could be the changing weather, or just my effed-up back deciding to act up some new ways, or- maybe- something about the other exercises might be annoying it.
"Take care of yourself, exercise more!" my ass.

Getting old is not for the faint of heart. 😉 it may be the weather because my knee has been acting up with the change of season.

Swimming is good due to low impact. I admit I wish I'd taken better care of my knees.
There are a lot of variables when pedaling your bike. Your old shoes might have put your feet at an angle that torqued your joints. The height of your seat, its fore and aft position, height and angle of your handle bars and frame size can all affect your comfort and efficiency when riding.
I can't explain why shoes would make a difference while pedaling, but shoes with good arch and ankle support changed my life. My knees feel twenty years younger.
Have titanium knees as well.............stretching ,etc in pool at Y..has been working for me. Best of luck.
The wrong shoes can throw your back out of alignment.
Shoes can make a difference how your foot hits the pedals and the exact position of the ball of your foot compared to the spindle of the pedals sets up how your legs move. Are your knees farther in (or out) now? Are your feet farther forward or back on the pedals?
It took a lot of trial and error to get the cleats for my Shimano clipless pedals set correctly when I was riding.
