Had a chance to try something new today

A Ruger American Ranch Rifle Generation II in .300 Blackout

Have a friend who has a first generation in .223, which he loves.  This has some upgrades,
Compensator on the muzzle
Adjustable stock length
Adjustable comb height
Adjustable trigger(which I think was on the Gen I also)
Cerakote finish
Better(I think) magazine release
The stock has a 'spatter' finish and texture that should be quite nice in wet/cold conditions.

Short, light, and from the few I put through looks like quite accurate.  That trigger is very nice.  Personally, I have no actual need for one, but I kinda want one.

Have some experience with the first gen 300 Blackout and 7.62x39 models. Haven't played much with the 300, but the 7.62x39 will put American Eagle 124 gr FMJ's inside an inch at 100y with cheapo UTG 3x9 glass. A 5.56 (of either gen) is on my wishlist.

I thought the .223 version was the Mini-14. The original Ranch rifle was in 7.62x39, wasn't it?

They had the Mini-14 Ranch Rifle first. Then they started the American bolt rifle series.

I have a first gen I got in 450 bushmaster, and it's a deer hammer.
But it's absurdly loud with that harmonica on the front. So I've wanted a little brother to it in another caliber. An acquaintance has a gen 1 in 5.56 but I've got enough .223s and a 16 incher would be a bit loud. I've settled on a 7.62x39 since I have ammo and components for it. It also takes mini 30 mags. I've bought everything for it. Just waiting for my FFL guy to catch one in stock from his distributor.

Every muzzle device like that I've ever seen is bloody loud, and bad to be to the side of. I'd rather a flash hider or something, a brake seems silly with a .300B or .223
