D-Day.
I'm thinking of the two great-uncles I used to know; one in the Navy in the Pacific, the other in the Army, Europe. Neither wanted to go to war, neither enjoyed it, neither talked about it after(and I mean ever; a little bit not long before they died, but that was it).
A word of warning to those out there planning badness: Do not start it with people whose attitude toward war is "Well, crap. This is a nasty job. Let's get it done so we can go home." They will kill you and turn your home into a rock pile full of smelly organics.
They may well help the survivors rebuild, assuming they've learned the lesson, but that won't do you any good.
